The SpaceLocated near the historic and scenic "Old Florida" villages of Micanopy, Evinston, and McIntosh, this two room"cottage" looks like an old Southern "tenant farmers shack" with a large screen porch. But is brand new, with all the modern amenities including satellite TV. Cell phone and WiFi reception is good. One room is a '"great room" with a single and a double bed, end table, chest of drawers, kitchen island, dining table, TV,ceiling fan/ light and kitchenette. A sliding glass door to the 12 x 24 screen porch where another table offers front porch dining and great views of the back pasture, like those shown in the photos. The other room is a full bathroom with a shower/ tub and a, vanity/ sink.. You are just a short ride from the Scenic Old Florida villages of McIntosh, Evinston and Micanopy and several state and county parks . Plenty of back roads, hiking, biking, and fishing opportunities nearby. There are lots of horse farms in the area. The Animal Dynamics Equine Sports Therapy School and the Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine are short drives away from the cottage for students who wish to stay in the country and not commute from Gainesville or Ocala The nearby historic village of McIntosh is full of large Victorian homes, with giant oaks and tall palms. There are no strip malls, or chain restaurants in McIntosh. Just a scenic village frozen in time like Florida was before the tourist boom started. There is even a low power FM radio station out of McIntosh which plays a mixture of Blue Grass, Southern Gospel, and 1950s Rock music, a rare example of rural Americana. (It is only 72 watts, has a very limited range and is often off the air but is interesting to listen to for something different when you can pick it up) This is not the Florida of the theme parks and high rise hotels. It is Florida like it used to be. Guest AccessGuests have the use of the cottage and the fenced yard with outdoor chairs and end tables. They can come and go whenever they please without having to open and close a gate unless they desire to do so. There is room to park right next to the cottage for ONE vehicle. Larger trucks and large SUVs wont have room to turn around in parking area but must back out down the drive way for 60 feet to turn around. RVs and extra vehicles can be parked 60 feet away. Interaction with GuestsI will give guests complete privacy if desired and will gladly answer any questions they have about the local restaurants, attractions (guide printout provided) and scenic back roads, or even where some good public mountain bike or 4WD trails are. They can just chill out in the cottage or go exploring during the day to return to their comfortable base at night. I live next door, separated by a privacy fence, with 2 black Labrador retrievers . They bark on occasion at night at the local wildlife but never for long. They can be brought inside my residence at night if their barking disturbs you. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is made up of rural homes on large acreage tracts. They are mainly cattle, horse and hay farms with some large tracts of woods. Yet it is an easy 20 minute drive to Gainesville or Ocala via Interstate 75 or on 4 lane US highway 441. There are 5 restaurants within 10 miles and a Dollar General store for basic shopping 3 miles away. For some reason the Dollar General Store does not show in the online guidebook. It has a good variety of household goods but doesn't carry fresh produce or fresh meats. Getting AroundYou need your own vehicle as there is no public transportation nearby. There are plenty of lightly traveled, scenic roads in the area for bicycles and some well maintained trails for hiking and mountain bikes in state parks are only minutes away. Fishing and boat rentals are available at nearby fish camps on Lake Lochloosa and Orange lake. Other Things to NoteA new larger hot water heater has been installed as the old one was too small to fill up the bathtub. A new refrigerator has also been added. A new larger AC unit was put in in June and the cottage is well insulated so blankets are provided for those who like to keep it cool at night in the summer A new water treatment system has been installed which has ended the iron water problems from the well. Two large Brita filtered water pitchers are also provided for guests, who want to filter the tap water further The kitchenette has utensils provided. A refrigerator/freezer,microwave , toaster, coffee maker, counter top toaster oven and hotplate is provided . There is no full size oven range due to the small space available in the cottage. A portable, two tier garment rack will be provided upon request.. A fan for the screen porch will be provided upon request. For longer stays fresh bedding and towels will be provided every week.Cleaning materials, broom, mop, etc are provided for the guests to use in longer stays. I clean up and make the beds ONE time per booking. On longer stays the guests will be expected to make their own beds with the clean bedding provided every week. Clean bath towels, wash cloths will also be provided every week for longer stays. The cows may not always be visible as they are sometimes on an adjacent pasture or may be pulled off the property by their owner.

The SpaceThe cottage has one huge bedroom, walk in closet, master bath with jacuzzi and shower, a second bath, laundry room, loads of closets, gas fireplace, open floor plan, separate garden. Guest AccessThis rental offers up to two 12'X 12' stalls and separate five acre pasture for those who wish to bring their horse(s). A five month commitment is required to bring horses onto the farm. There is access to H.I.T.S. in Ocala (25 minutes) and Gainesville (12 minutes). The University of Fl in Gainesville offers theatre, movies, dance, The Harn Art Museum, and much more. Interaction with GuestsI live in a separate house on the farm which allows me to take care of any unexpected needs. However, I won't have any interaction with guests as I intend this rental to offer privacy and tranquility. The farm--Friesians at John's Lane Farm-- is also home to horses, chickens (fresh eggs are always available), ducks, donkeys, sheep, and goats. The NeighborhoodThe accessibility to Gainesville is in wonderful contrast to the rural private nature of my farm. Guests will enjoy the night sky, the fragrances of the natural fauna and flora-- the natural beauty of this farm is extraordinary. The small town of Micanopy is five minutes away by car if you want some small town charm or to do some antiquing. Getting AroundGetting around requires a car. There will be available parking for one car or truck in the broodmare barn. Other Things to NoteFor those who wish to spend some time in paradise - this location should be one to consider. Ideal for the writer, artist , nature, and, of course, the horse lover!

Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to engage with our guests and we do our best to make sure each person is happy and have everything needed for a great stay. We tend to give our guests privacy and try to create a space that feels comfortable for everyone. The NeighborhoodThe area is rural and our neighbors are not visible. Its beautifully wooded and feels like its out in the country although highways 75 and 441 are very easily accessible and within 2.5 miles of the space.

Our home is close to Gainesville and Ocala. We love it because of the quiet relaxed atmosphere. We think you'll agree. Our place is good for couples and solo adventurers. We are 5 minutes from great antique shopping, and 10 minutes from Paynes Prairie State Park. It is an area of Florida largely undisturbed by development. It is, in our never to be humble opinion, one of the best spots in rural Florida.
