Our garden attracts butterflies, dragonflies, hummingbirds, quail, and of course so much more! And, just to help the butterflies out, I plant lots of flowers in my garden that the butterflies love!! By late summer, there are many varieties that can be seen--swallowtail, painted lady, monarch, and many more! Also, situated next to a family-owned cattle ranch, the cows next door provide some entertainment also! Plus, you might see our resident wildlife--deer, squirrels, foxes, and much more! We live in the home we built situated a distance away on the opposite side of the huge garden. There's plenty of privacy, but it helps to know we are there when you need us! Did you know that Mariposa means butterfly in Spanish? Legend has it that when the Spanish army came through these hills--back before gold was discovered and this became a state of the USA--they saw so many butterflies everywhere, that they called the area Mariposa! It's still true today!! Mariposa, also, has so many activities to offer. You may want to plan an extra visit or stay longer to visit some of our local wineries, go zip-lining, explore the backroads, see the wildflowers in the spring, see the sights in our historic downtown, enjoy the butterfly festival in May, enjoy the old-fashioned fair of the county fair during labor day weekend, and visit the home studios of our mountain artists from Bass Lake to Mariposa during Sierra Art Trails in October!! And don't miss visiting in the winter for the skiing, sledding, and ice skating!! Yosemite is a beautiful destination all year round!!! ** Please note: We are a County Permitted Vacation Rental. We have been inspected for safety and code compliance. Plus, even our drinking water has been tested for your safety! By choosing a permitted property, you can have the satisfaction of knowing that this truly is the best home away from home you can find! We contribute to the success of our community by paying the 11% bed tax that comes out of your "cleaning fee". (We put the Bed Tax into the Cleaning fee because Airbnb does not provide us with a separate line item for the Tax, like they do in some cities.) **Our cottage is strictly non-smoking inside and outside.** Guest AccessOur Cottage is located on 10 acres of untouched gentle sloping land with 100 year old oaks and a few pines, wild blackberries, manzanita, and wandering deer, wild turkeys, foxes, coyotes, and more! You are welcome to wander and explore with in the propery lines and walk the country roads! Interaction with GuestsWe also live on the property, but a distance away. Not to worry, you can have all the privacy you want!! We are available if you have questions or want to know our favorite restaurants or Yosemite highlight!! The NeighborhoodWe are in a perfect location for your vacation!! We are located half way between 2 major Yosemite entrances! Plus, you have your choice of going in one direction to Oakhurst or Mariposa in the other. We are located outside of town in a lovely rural setting, but just a 5 minute drive is the Grizzly Den Restaurant and Triangle Market (a small country store for that impromptu drink or snack!) and gas station. Other Things to NoteWe are located at 3200', so we do get snow several times in the winter. When visiting the area during winter months, definitely carry your tire chains or cables for the expected and unexpected road conditions here in Mariposa and for Yosemite National Park! It is a wonderful time of year to visit this Winter Wonderland!

Interaction with GuestsI live about 20 minutes away on our family ranch. So I would be more then happy to fill you in on some more interesting aspects of our little piece of heaven we call Yosemite and of course all that Mariposa and Oakhurst has to offer. The NeighborhoodWe are roughly 20 minutes outside both Mariposa and Oakhurst. You can expect to make it Yosemite park in a little less than an hour. There are two major grocery stores in Oakhurst (15 minutes away) - Raley's and Von'. Raley's has an amazing produce section while Von's has a better meat department. These stay open till 10 or 11 pm depending on the night. In the town of Mariposa (a smaller and more picturesque town, also 15 minutes away), there is a large grocery store called Pioneer Market and a great health food store called High Country. The pioneer closes at 9pm. About 3 minutes away on Triangle Road, there is a little corner store called the Triangle Market where you can purchase ice, beer, liquor, milk, eggs and other common items but the selection is very limited. Getting AroundYou really need a vehicle when visiting up here, so we offer you plenty of parking! Let family and/or friends know where you are going and for how long. Give them the address and landline number (as cell phone reception can be spotty). If you plan to cook, stop by a grocery store before arriving at the house. Just for fun, I highly recommend watching Ken Burn's documentary on Yosemite, Gathering of Spirit. Also, it might be helpful to get the guidebook Yosemite the Complete Guide. Both will prepare you for insightful experience in Yosemite and can really enhance your trip.
