The Space2 bedrooms, 2 queen beds, 2 sets of cupboards and wardrobes, linen - including extras - provided. 1 bathroom with toilet, shower and bath. Feel free to use the shampoo, soap etc. Towels - including extras - provided. 2nd toilet in the laundry. Washing machine & clothesline. Large loungeroom with lounge suite, TV, DVD and Video player. Kitchen with dishwasher, stove, oven, french door fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and utensils. Ducted air cooler, fans in all bedrooms and living room, two portable electric heaters. Private outdoor entertaining area with large dining setting, 2 BBQ's and plenty of lighting. Secure off street parking with electric roller door and space for 2 cars (as long as they're not both big ones - contact me for details). The house belonged to my Grandparents, then was sold, had two owners and I bought it back a few years ago so I love it to pieces. It has a lot of character but needed an overhaul so there are modern features throughout. There's a welcome package when you come to stay at my place, but basically, help yourself. There are books, boardgames, snacks, breakfast materials, even wine if you're so inclined. All I ask is that you replace what you use with something similar if you have the time, cheers. Anything I don't have but would make your stay better? Let me know. **PLEASE NOTE: I do not have Wi-Fi and I won't be getting Wi-Fi. I'm sorry, it's not viable, please don't stay if you need Wi-Fi and if you stay please don't leave negative comments about the lack of it, thank you :) Guest AccessYou get the lot. House, front yard, back yard and carport. My things are stored in bits and pieces around the place, please respect my privacy, but other than that, make yourself at home. Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as you'd like. If you want your space, the key hand over and welcome package can be as much interaction as we have. If you want me to organise flowers, chocolates or diner reservations, show you some of the sights, sit and have a cuppa and a chat etc, just let me know. I work + volunteer full time but if available I love meeting new people and showing off the beauty of my home town. The NeighborhoodQuiet, a few blocks from the shopping area and a few more blocks from the nightlife, coffee hang outs and boutique shops. My street is safe and very friendly, close to two schools, three churches (if you're so inclined), a great playground/park, and the tourist information centre. Broken Hill also has a great Golf Course. If you play let me know and I can set up a game for you! Let me know if you want to go for a wander with the Barrier Rangers, our local group of experienced bush walkers. I'll find out if they're doing something in the time you're here. We also have a great independent cinema. Catch the latest attraction, usually for $15 or less with fundraising events most weekends. Getting AroundThere isn't much in the way of public transport in Broken Hill (though what is here is clean & efficient) but a taxi won't cost much and it's easy to walk to the centre of town. Let me know if you're coming in by plane, train or bus and I'll see if I can organise a ride. If I'm in town and not working I'm also happy to play tour guide/chauffeur most of the time. If you've got your own car, I'm still happy to act as guide, or there are maps, directions and places of interest in the welcome package. Other Things to NotePlease be aware I'm not in the main street and although all the essentials are in walking distance, if you don't like any walking, or don't have a car (though it's recommended if you want to make the most of Broken Hill) then perhaps contact me about whether my house is suited to you. I don't want anyone to be unhappy with their stay - I'd hate for my place to mar a holiday - so if I don't think we're a match I'll tell you honestly and up front. The backyard is a work in progress which is why I haven't listed the place as pet friendly - I'm not completely positive the fence is in good enough condition that they'd be secure and there are way too many prickles. I'm open to negotiation on this point though, so please contact me.

Heritage Homestead destination or stop-over offering Australian outback experiences including accommodation on historic Darling River. Built in 1870's of stone & pine logsthe large rooms and high ceilings are characteristic of the period. Wood fires burn brightly during winter & in summer the wide verandas provide shade & views across the lawns sloping down to the river. Extensive gardens of jacaranda and peppercorn trees surround the homestead beyond which stand original out-buildings, fruit and vegetable garden & modern mod-grass tennis court. Our position on the irrigation weir - created by the lock on the Murray immediately below Wentworth and the Murray-Darling River Junction - ensures a constant water supply for 'Avoca' residents and gardens. The property covers 104 acres, incuding more than 1km of river frontage lined with healthy old river red gums and young saplings. You could truly be at a peaceful oasis providing serenity and relaxation for your enjoyment. Typically one or two couples stay for one or two nights every week or two on average. Their rooms are at one end of the long homestead and ours are at the other, which provides privacy for guests outside meal times. We do not employ staff so guests can set their own times for meals and they usually accept our offer of a complimentary tour of the old buildings which, when things were really humming, accommodated about 30 farm hands, jackaroos, domestic staff, gardener, owners, manager, and children. Goods and Services Tax included. Rates/prices are per person and include the provision of all meals. 'Avoca' was one of the original stations and covered 1,100 square miles. The homestead is situated on the banks of the Darling River 50 kilometres upstream from the confluence of the Darling and Murray rivers and the historic township of Wentworth. The region receives a lot of sunshine but little rain (av 275 mm p.a.) but Australia's two longest rivers provided essential water for livestock, enabled the pioneering explorers, drovers and pastoralists to produce beef cattle, sheep and wool for local markets and shipment to England. For many years paddlsteamers were the main means of supplying the pastoralists and their employees with goods from Port Elliot near Adelaide to Bourke, Echuca, Swan Hill and Wagga Wagga, calling at homesteads along the way and returning with barges of wool and other produce in tow. Wentworth became the biggest and busiest inland port in Australia and is the historical centre of Sunraysia. The irrigation region is the fruit bowl of Australia, with the City of Mildura its commercial hub. Mildura Airport receives daily return flights from Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, and hire cars are available. The drive to Wentworth takes 25 minutes and another 20 minutes to 'Avoca' or our courtesy vehicle can meet you at the airport. There are many attractions at Wentworth, including Perry Sandhills, recently restored PS Ruby, new MV Wentworth - hosts three cruises a week - statue of Chinese pioneer on the wharf, old jail, museum, art galleries, Ruby's Handcrafts, Wheeldons' Hardware - also stocks old books, furniture, you-name-it and other gems. Main sports for visitors are golf, tennis, lawn bowls. The pubs and War Services club have poker machines. Day trips: Mildura, Hattah-Kulkyne, Sunset and Mungo National Parks, Pooncarie, Renmark and the Riverland.

SOME LOCAL INFORMATION THAT MAY INTEREST YOU Broken Hill is a very ancient land with miraculous sunsets. Mutawintji has wonderful ancient aboriginal art and Mungo National Park is one of the world’s foremost archaeological sites. Silverton, an old mining town of the 1800’s is only 23 kilometers away. Visit the Daydream mine, stop off at the old Silverton ‘pub’ where the ‘Mad Max’ series was filmed, or ride a camel out into the desert. Wander around the art galleries and chat with the artists, photograph the Mundi Mundi plains which seem to go on forever and on a clear day you can see the curvature of the earth. Enjoy a snack or lunch at the café on the hill while you visit their collections of old bottles, bits and pieces and antique dolls. (Cash only there.) Swim at Copi Hollow near Menindee or in the new swimming pool in town, have a lunch at Maiden’s, Menindee’s historical hotel or fish in the river. Walk along the ‘Burke & Wills’ path, play golf or visit the Living Desert sculptures at sunset when the glorious colours will amaze you (and be sure to take the champagne!). Enjoy the wild flower and fauna walking trails where you will see kangaroos grazing in the wild (see photo – we almost tripped over these two) and possibly bump into an emu looking for a handout (whistle and they’ll come over to you – they’re very curious). Milkshakes or ‘Spiders’ at Bell’s 50’s style Milkbar are a hit with young and not-so-young alike, and of course at the north end of town you’ll find Pro Hart’s works and his amazing art gallery. Wander down Argent Street and admire the old buildings or enjoy the town’s Art Gallery. If you are interested in the mining process visit White’s Museum and a guide will explain how it all happens, or perhaps take a guided tour around the city’s 113 interesting sites. Visit the Geo Centre full of amazing mineral samples or visit the ‘Big Picture’ which shows you the panorama of the Broken Hill countryside. Here you can also purchase silver jewellery or local artists’ work. The School of the Air is not far away and you can listen in as the station children hundreds of kilometers away are taught, or perhaps visit the new Royal flying Doctor base at the airport. The only problem with ‘Things to Do’ is the time you have in Broken Hill – as there’s always something else to see or somewhere else to go! There is a big basket of information and brochures at the cottage for your perusal – so you won’t miss out on anything. HAPPY EXPLORING!
