The SpaceOur guest room is small but charming, with white-washed knotty pine walls, a large closet, and a private window. Very comfortable double bed. Guest AccessYour room opens up into the front sunny living room that will be yours for relaxing, and you have a private full bathroom. You are also encouraged to use the sun room during your stay! Your space is on a separate side of the house (with private entrance) and can be very private, as we have another living area and entrance on our side of the house. The separate living spaces come together in the dining room/kitchen area. We reserve the left side of our driveway for guests so you will never have to worry about parking! (Space for 2-3 guest cars) Interaction with GuestsWe will be present during your stay and available to help you find your way around, etc. We like to interact with guests whenever possible and to the extent that you like, but we also enjoy our own privacy and will be working and doing our own thing a lot. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is very well situated close to the Willamette River and the Trolley Trail, which is great for walking/running/biking. It's just a short walk to Elk Rock Island as well. We are 1 mile from downtown Milwaukie which has a few good restaurants and bars, and a great farmers' market- and it's a nice walk along the river to get there! We like the low-key feel to our neighborhood- it is very unassuming and friendly. Getting AroundWe are only 7 miles to downtown Portland, as well as to all of our favorite spots in the hip SE Portland neighborhoods. And only 3 miles to the lovely Portland neighborhood of "Sellwood", full of great restaurants, bars, and shopping. *We are just a 5-minute walk to the Orange Max Line/Light Rail! This takes you easily and quickly right into the city (25 minutes) and to the airport. Bus #33 goes directly to downtown Portland as well, and we have easy access to bike routes through Sellwood to Portland on the beautiful Springwater Corridor along the river. *HOWEVER, if you would like to be in the center of all the action, you probably should look for accommodation in Portland proper- we are in a quiet neighborhood just outside of the city limits. *We are about a 25-minute drive from the airport. You can take the light rail from the airport to our house. (or you can use Uber/Lyft for about $40.) Other Things to Note-We provide coffee/tea throughout your stay. (Please note that we have discontinued providing smoothies due to time constraints) -We are LGBTQ friendly -We have one geriatric kitty, and 3 chickens who are excited to meet you! -We have several guidebooks for things to do in the area (hiking, climbing, etc), and a few extra bikes for borrowing as well. -We don't have a t.v. in the home, but we have a fast wifi connection- you can stream movies/shows on your own device if you like. -We sometimes burn incense (usually "nag champa") in the house- if you are sensitive to scents and would prefer that we do not while you are staying with us, please let us know! -We are happy to help coordinate, supply gear for, and/or lead various outdoor adventures in the area, including but not limited to: ski/snowboard trips to Mt Hood, cross country ski trips, snowshoeing, backcountry skiing/splitboarding, mountaineering trips (Mt Hood, Mt St Helens, Mt Adams, etc), rock climbing trips (sport and/or trad), stand up paddle boarding, surfing, camping/backpacking, as well as more leisurely outings such as winery tours, brewery tours, etc (we will be your DD :) Please let us know in advance if you are interested in any of these during your stay and we can discuss details further! We ski most weekends in the winter, and have lots of various gear, so we can save you some money on rentals/transportation.

The SpaceWelcome to the Turquoise Tunnel! Step into this mid-century modern "rumpus room" with its original turquoise and gold bar. Bring your mini-bottles! The space is a partial daylight basement that sleeps up to four people. Your private entrance and bedroom have large daylight windows, while the bar and cozy living room are windowless and fully underground for safe cocktail consumption and protection from nuclear fallout (the year is 1955, after all). Explore all the best of nearby urban Portland, then retreat to your suburban refuge for cocktails and streaming Netflix (wait, that didn't exist in the Fifties!...) Guest AccessLaundry room shared with host and upstairs guests. Feel free to use it at any time of day or night. Free laundry soap and stain remover provided. Interaction with GuestsI live upstairs and would only bump into you in the laundry room or outside. But I'm happy to chat over a coffee or drink and offer local tips, if time allows. The NeighborhoodMilwaukie, Oregon, is a woodsy suburb bordering southeast Portland and is near the Willamette River. It's an up-and-coming area, since the new MAX light rail now connects us to Portland more conveniently. You can easily get to the quaint Portland neighborhood of Sellwood and farther north to the food, fun, and culture of inner SE Portland and downtown Portland. We're also close to the beautiful Willamette River for hiking, kayaking, or summer swimming (yes, it's safe and clean). Getting AroundMany of our guests have found it easiest to have a car, but it's not hard to get around without one, relying on public transit. We have a beautiful new light rail line connecting us to Portland (the MAX Orange Line). DRIVING --5 min to charming village-like neighborhood of Sellwood in SE Portland with shops, cafes, bars --13 min to inner Southeast and downtown Portland PUBLIC TRANSIT It's about a seven-minute walk from house to transit stop at SE Park Avenue for the MAX Orange Line train. Frequent service. $2.50 for a two and a half hour ticket or $5 for unlimited one-day pass. he fare works for all buses, MAX trains, and street cars. Visit TriMet website for more. --15 min ride to the cool SE Division Street neighborhood (at SE Clinton/12th station) --20 min ride to South Waterfront, OHSU, and scenic aerial tram ride --25 min ride to downtown Portland at PSU For airport directions, scroll down to bottom. BIKE (if you have one) --10 min to downtown Milwaukie with a few restaurants and bars (but not as many as Sellwood) --20 min to charming village of Sellwood via the Trolley Trail, through Milwaukie Riverfront Park, and north on SE 17th Ave. BIKE (if you don't have one) Use Biketown! It's our new citywide bike share system in Portland. Available for hourly and daily rentals at hubs all over downtown and the inner east side. It's fun, convenient, and affordable. CAR SHARING Two of the big car sharing companies do business in Portland -- Car2Go and Zipcar. I find Car2Go to be the most useful, since they allow one-way rentals. You'd have to be a member already from another city. The only challenge is that Car2Go's "home area" doesn't extend all the way south to our house, but it is useful once you're in Sellwood or points north. UBER and LYFT Uber and Lyft operate in Portland and its suburbs, including for airport pickup and drop off. Obviously you need to have a smartphone and download the app to use these services. FROM PORTLAND AIRPORT... Driving: 16 miles / 22 minutes (without traffic). Taxi: Not sure of cost, probably at least $30 or more. The most direct route is via Interstate 205 south to Clackamas Town Center, then west on Harmony Road. Uber and Lyft: These transportation network services operate freely in Portland and its suburbs. They're also allowed to pick up passengers at PDX airport. I've only used it once from the airport and it cost $38. Obviously you'll need to have a smartphone with the app downloaded. Public transit: Takes about 90 minutes via MAX Red Line and Orange Line. --Take the TriMet MAX light rail Red Line to Portland City Center. --Exit train at Mall / SW 5th Ave MAX station. --Transfer to MAX Orange Line train by walking across 5th Ave to the sidewalk with signs for MAX Orange Line to Milwaukie. It's right there. Other Things to NoteTHINGS YOU MIGHT LIKE AND DISLIKE Dislike? -No daylight windows in the living room and bar area. -No full-sized kitchen for cooking elaborate, large meals (just the bar). -Not located in an exciting urban neighborhood. -Neighbor has a few dogs (Labrador retrievers). When you enter/exit your space, one of them tends to bark loudly at you. But they're kept locked behind a fence. -In the cold season, occasional noise of the furnace turning on and off (it’s located in the laundry area but can be heard from the living room and TV area). Like? -Cool vintage design and fun "Mad Men" era cocktail bar with kitchen basics -Spacious floor plan (approx 800+ square feet, three separate rooms) -Quiet and safe location at the end of a dead-end street -Cozy feeling AIR MATTRESS In addition to the queen-sized bed in the bedroom and the full-sized sleeper sofa in the living room, there's a queen-sized air mattress with an electric pump you're welcome to use if needed. CAVEATS Keep in mind this space is technically a basement and there is not a full kitchen, just the bar. While it is well equipped with a fridge and small appliances, it is best for light, simple meals, in part because the small (12x10 inch) bar sink isn't easy to do lots of dishes in. But we do provide a set of three larger dish tubs that make for easier washing of dishes. TEMPERATURE -Heating: There is a small electric wall heater in the living room and a good space heater for the bedroom (or wherever you want to put it). The rest of the space (and entire house) is heated by an oil furnace next to the laundry room. Fireplace works fine and you're welcome to use it if you're very careful and talk to us first so we can show you how. -Cooling: The space has no air conditioning but is naturally *much* cooler than the upstairs in summer, because it is partially a basement, built into the side of a hill. SOUND Sound travels a bit between the upstairs and downstairs. From 10pm-7am Sunday to Thursday, please keep the noise down in your entry room and bedroom, since they're below the upstairs bedrooms. But you're welcome to have fun at normal volume in your living room and bar :-) SUSTAINABILITY We take several steps to reduce guests' environmental footprint including: recycling; purified tap water instead of bottled; energy-efficient lighting; and green cleaning supplies (which actually disinfect). EARLY CHECK-INS and LATE CHECK-OUTS Guest requests for check-in earlier than 4pm or check-out later than 12pm cannot be guaranteed in advance and will only be granted on a last-minute basis, based on cleaning schedules and when the space is fully ready. This is especially true in peak season and is due to the complexity of the cleaning crews' schedules. Thanks for understanding. Those traveling without a car, however, are welcome to store luggage on arrival or departure day. But you'll need to discuss and make arrangements with your host ahead of time.

The sunroom/yoga/music room (room #2) sleeps one more person on a twin-sized pallet bed with comfy, thick foam cushions. Also, we don't book more than 1 party at a time so the space will still be private. Guest AccessRoom #1 opens up into the front sunny living room that will be yours for relaxing. We are a quiet neighborhood with plenty of parking. Getting AroundBus service is located only two blocks away in front of Haggens supermarket. Therefore, I am compelled to restrict rent time on this unit to one full week or longer, once per month only until the law changes.

The SpaceMy home is in a very quiet and safe area. I'm constantly developing my large organic, wooded lot and garden; and working on house projects! Everything is very clean. You have control over the thermostat for your room and windows that open. Fuzzy robes and sandals are provided for your hot tub pleasure. Lighted off street parking is provided. No closet but plenty of hooks and hangers for your things. All of my guests have enjoyed the hot tub set in a beautiful natural setting and the very comfortable queen bed. Please note: to access the bath from your room it is necessary to take 3 or 4 steps outside across the lighted deck. Guest AccessYou'll have the only access to the detached studio and guest bath during your stay. Your room is separate from my home and is focused around the wood deck. One hour notice and I'll have the hot tub ready. You are welcome to linger on the deck. Say hello to my two chickens whose coop you can see from your window. My dog will be kept inside my home during your stay. Interaction with GuestsI'm available and onsite to help make your stay comfortable and cozy. I've set up the guest area so that it is private, and I'm expecting guests will have their own things going on. My goal is make your stay great and meet some nice travelers. The NeighborhoodMy space is very close to the Sellwood neighborhood, Reed College, Portland Waldorf School and has convenient access to the Portland Airport. Milwaukie has made a lot of improvements recently that take advantage of being on the banks of the Willamette River, adding light rail transport, a new major bike route and walking path, with a historic downtown area all within minutes from my home. Getting AroundJust a 10 minute walk (1/2 mile) from the banks of the Willamette River. Many conveniences and eating spots are just 4 blocks away and down town Milwaukie is 1/2 mile, a pleasant walk or bike ride. If you are using mass transport, the Orange Line light rail is 1/2 mile away. It's just a 17 min. ride to Downtown Portland Two major bike routes are also 1/2 mile away. Lighted off street parking is provided, if you're driving. Other Things to NoteDowntown Milwaukie (1/2 mile away) has a very good Sunday Market during the summer and some nice quiet places to eat and drink . My guest room is perfect for adults visiting friends or family in the area, but if you want to stay in the middle of trendy Portland , this is not your location. That said, if you want to venture into Portland it's very accessible and close, either by riding the Orange Line or by car. In case you're sensitive to dog hair, my dog has not been in the guest room. This space is a registered small business with the City of Milwaukie.

This is a private apartment of nearly 600 sf in a home with a large communal backyard and 7 blocks from MAX in the Ardenwald neighborhood, just up the hill from Sellwood. I am 10 minutes from inner SE and less than 15 minutes from downtown, so this is a great location if you like peace and quiet but want to be close to the business of central Portland. I chose quality furniture, a memory foam mattress and 55" & 49" TVs to ensure my guests are happy. I hear the birds most of the day and though rush hour is busy on my street it is extremely peaceful at night. The apartment has new hardwood flooring (laminate), brand new huge LED tvs (55" and 49"), cable with all of the channels (HBO, Showtime, ondemand, Netflix, Amazon et al) and is decorated with my own art on the walls. There is a beautiful leather platform bed and memory foam mattress with pillow top cover for a great sleep, a mid century modern low boy and bedside table, all of which I added to include some charm and panache with the apartment. This isn't luxury, but it is comfortable and welcoming after a long day working or exploring portland. I am located 7 blocks from the lightrail (which takes 20-25 minutes to get you downtown) and 10 minutes from inner SE or downtown if you are driving, yet the space is extremely quiet and peaceful at night. A large backyard is available to all guests and myself (I have another airbnb in this house as well), and you are welcome to lounge in the sun for as long as you like. Birds are chirping most of the day, I hear frogs at night and other than rush hour this is an extremely peaceful oasis away from the busy-ness that Portland has become. You will have direct, private access to your own 2nd floor apartment in my house via a digital lock on your door, and you are welcome to enjoy the backyard and large porch as well whenever you would like to relax outside.

This 900+ sf private apartment has a large sitting area, bedroom, bathroom with shower and kitchenette. It is a daylight basement but the ceilings are higher than 8 feet and it feels very spacious while also being welcoming & cozy. I chose high quality furniture and provide 55" and 48" new LED TVs with full cable/DVR plus a pillow top memory foam mattress to ensure that the apartment provides a very comfortable stay. This is intended to be a quiet get away from the busy ness of inner Portland but it is only 10 minutes from downtown by car/7 blocks from a MAX station. The good sized backyard and porch are also open for you to sit outside if you like. This private downstairs unit is larger than my other apartment, has ceilings higher than 8 feet and an egress window in the bedroom for extra light. I bought a good bedframe and a queen memory foam mattress with pillow top that the guests seem to love. High quality furniture and some plants and color also add charm. The sitting room is approximately 400 sf, the bedroom is close to 250 and there is a private kitchenette with washer and dryer in the unit as well, plus a full bathroom with shower. The modern, very comfortable Danish memory foam couch and matching love seat will be great for watching TV with full cable including HBO, Showtime, OnDemand everything, etc. I also hung some of my art/photographs on the wall to liven the space up and added a vintage radio/record/TV unit in the apartment which is functional (except for the TV, which won't receive a signal), and lots of fun to play with. Guests are welcome to sit in my backyard and enjoy the sun or the large porch, and the house is next to Sellwood in Ardenwald, which is a 10 minute drive from downtown or inner se, and only 7 blocks from the MAX public lightrail, which takes you downtown in approximately 20 minutes.
