The SpaceThe school was built in 1912 and was used as a school until 1960. Grades first through eighth were all together in this one room, approximately fifteen total. The people who settled in this area were Welsh, from Wales. The first teacher at the school was Eulalia Richards and she received as little as forty dollars a month to teach. The surrounding children REALLY did walk two to three miles to get here. Guest AccessHubby-made treehouse and local artist made limestone fire pit. There is a FULL ( coffee grinder, coffee pot, pans) working kitchen that should meet all you needs. However, if there are specifics that you are not sure if we have up there, please ask ahead of time. Portable DVD player and a small "film library" available. Interaction with GuestsMy husband and I are available for questions at all times. Internet can be slow, please be patient. The NeighborhoodPeace, quiet, darkness, fireflies, stars and HILLS. Getting AroundNo public transportation. Other Things to NoteThis is a perfect retreat for a single, a couple (or two), ladies weekends, family reunions, Mother-Daughter or Father-Son getaways or anything in between. Attractions nearby- There is a binder on the end of the kitchen island on the bottom shelf- it has loads of information about things to do in the area. You and your children are more than welcome to visit the neighboring farms but please be aware of the electrical wiring on some of the fences and be safe. American Players Theather- Spring Green Govorner Dodge State Park- Dodgeville Mineral Point farmers market (May-Nov.) 8:30-11/ Saturdays- MP Mineral Point Opera House-MP Shake Rag Center for the Arts- MP Soldiers Park Pool- MP Taliesin (Frank Lloyd Wright)- Spring Green Nicer restaurant: Brewery Creek- Downtown MP Two very local cheese shops: Mont Chevre goat cheese-Belmont (URL HIDDEN) Hooks cheddar- MP (URL HIDDEN) Massage Works Day Spa (10 minute drive) 424 David Dr, Belmont, WI (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Local listings of things to do in the area: (URL HIDDEN) Mineral Point is also IDEAL for road biking and though it's incredibly hilly it's worth the view! There is a local bike shop in Platteville. Perfect backdrop for photographing at all skill levels. I'm in the process of working on a creative endeavors discount. For example, if you would like to rent the schoolhouse for a week to write or do handwork or work on your music, etc.etc.etc. I would discount your visit for this reason/purpose. Life without art is stupid. Stay tuned or inquire.

The SpaceIf Mineral Point is where Wisconsin began, then South Street is where Mineral Point began. The original one-room structure was a Cornish Miner's cottage built pre-state in 1847. The structure was totally rehabbed in 2014 and now features a loft-like living space with a separate bedroom. The stone wall at one end leads to a root cellar or is what is believed to have been an original "badger hole." Interaction with GuestsI live in walking distance from the cottage and can be available if something comes up. The NeighborhoodThis private home is located on a very quiet street that is walking distance to galleries, shops and restaurants. Getting AroundApproximate distances to and from Mineral Point: Chicago, 175 miles; Galena, IL, 42 miles; Spring Green WI, 49 miles. Other Things to NoteThe house is within a block and a half of High Street that includes restaurants, the Mineral Point Opera house, and many art studios.

Interaction with GuestsWe have a lock box that allows you to access the house without any assistance and you will probably not see me unless you need something. If you have questions or need anything, you can call or text my cell phone which will be provided when you make a reservation. The NeighborhoodThis house is located one block from the historic downtown. In fact, this house is in the historic district. Another benefit is that there are no neighboring houses which adds to your privacy. A park is one block away. A 24 hour workout gym is a block away. The Red Rooster is one block away on High Street and serves breakfast and lunch. Midway Bar and Graydog Deli are one block away on High Street as well. Also, try Tequila Point, Brewery Creek Pub, Tony's Tap and Popolo's Pizzeria. All are within three blocks. Also, check out the galleries and shopping on historic High Street. All just one block away. The Tri-county cheese trail is about four blocks away for biking, walking, ATVing and snowmobiling. Check out the Merry Christmas Mine Hill at Pendarvis for a nature hike. Getting AroundMost things are within a few blocks. However, Mineral Point is hilly. If hills are bothersome, driving is an easy way to get around and parking is usually not a problem. Other Things to NoteThe main house was built before 1870. In 1910 the living room and parlor was added. In 2014 the restoration maintained the historic feel and added the modern amenities most of us expect. Explore one of the oldest gas stations in Wisconsin right on the property. Shipped in by rail and erected in the 1920s, the steel building, which is the size of a one car garage, served as one of the early gas stations in Mineral Point. The surprising thing is that it is completely made of steel including the roof which was designed to look like terracotta roof tiles.
