The SpaceFivespot is just 15 minutes to Kings Canyon - Sequoia National Park in California's spectacular Sierra Nevada. Giant sequoia trees, jaw-dropping Kings Canyon, High Sierra hikes: all yours without the crowds you'd find in Yosemite. The cabin: cute, homey, comfortable, wi-fi, classic book collection, fireplace, sauna, artful tilework, outdoor shower, covered patio, hummingbird feeders, fresh flowers, a quirky, international knick-knack collection, full kitchen, BBQ, laundry. Built in the 1940s, it was completely renovated in 2008. Although fivespot is most definitely a mountain retreat - it's one hour to the nearest grocery store, one-half hour to the nearest gas station - you won't be alone. We live in the house next door (although your privacy is assured) and can give advice on the best Park trails and experiences. We lived in New York City for many years and know how valuable it is to tap into local expertise, so you can get the most out of your vacation. And you won't be roughing it at fivespot. It's a clean, comfortable, delightful place that induces a calm and quiet state in almost every guest! Guest AccessThe sauna, outdoor shower, laundry facilities, access to 3 acres of property, in addition to all the other cabin amenities, are available to guests and not shared with anyone. Interaction with GuestsBachrun and I live in the house next door to the cabin, but they are separated by a fence and an elevation difference (fivespot is higher up on the slope than our house) and fivespot's back patio is completely private. We like to meet our guests when they arrive, and we are just next door if anything is needed. The NeighborhoodFivespot is located in Pinehurst, what I would call a settlement more than a town. Mostly there are cabins tucked in and around the slopes and forest. But just down the road from fivespot is "downtown" Pinehurst: five little cabins right next to each other, and across from the social nexus of the neighborhood, the Pinehurst Lodge. It's fun to walk down the "the Lodge" or "the Pinehurst" (as the locals say), have a beer, eat dinner, get milk or eggs from the tiny store, watch whatever's on the TV, play tunes on the jukebox (or on the ancient piano), or play pool. There's a deck in the back, a giant fireplace, and an old bar. This building started out as a sawmill in the early 20th century, but has been a restaurant or bar for decades. Getting AroundThere is no public transit in the area.

Many types of caffeinated and decaffeinated tea herbal teas and coffee are available. My well water is better than bottled water lol You can fill up your water containers here. Quiet, cozy, inspiring, art-filled cabin: fivespot is a relaxing place for a week or weekend. Just 15 minutes from the entrance to Sequoia Kings Canyon National Parks, it's perfect for couples or small families. After a satisfying journey to see the spectacular sequoia trees, or experiencing rugged Kings Canyon, come back to fivespot and have a cookout, relax on the covered patio, and enjoy the sauna and outdoor shower. Feeling creative? Add something to the chalkboard wall, or stroll to the hilltop behind the cabin and sketch the surrounding foothills. Several painters and writers have already used fivespot as a personal artistic retreat - you can too! Fivespot is situated in the Giant Sequoia National Monument, and the towering trees in Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks are only 15 minutes from the cabin. Awesome Kings Canyon is an hour from the sequoias - a jaw-dropping ride down one of the USA's deepest canyons. Visit us in this lesser-known part of the Sierras. Find yourselves alone on the delightful trails and get back to fivespot for more peace and quiet. Or head on down to the Pinehurst Lodge (a 3-minute walk from fivespot) for a drink and dinner. It's a great alternative to the crowded Yosemite experience. Rates are all-inclusive, based on double occupancy. Kids under age 13 stay free, $15/each additional older child or adult. Few vacation cabins are as close to Kings Canyon National Park as Fivespot Cabin. A 15-minute drive to its entrance will bring you to the feet of giant sequoias, and an hour more will take you to the bottom of the breathtaking canyon itself. From there discover prime hiking trails, waterfalls, caves and meadows - all without the crowds of Yosemite. Fivespot is located in the heart of the tiny settlement known as Pinehurst. Once a thriving logging community, it is now a sleepy rural retreat. Fortunately for visitors and locals, historic Pinehurst Lodge is open year-round. A family-friendly restaurant and bar, "the Lodge" (as the locals call it) is a short walk from fivespot and was once a sawmill. Known for its Saturday night Prime Rib special, it's also got a pool table, a jukebox, a deck, and a TV. Other Activities: Giant Sequoia Tree Viewing, Snowshoeing, Cross-Country Skiing

The SpaceYour Peaceful Heavenly Retreat cabin sets up on a mountain slope at 4200 ft looking out westward. Sitting comfortably on the deck provides a beautiful arrange of colors in the setting sun. You want peace and quiet: a road less traveled passes the cabin and the distance to the nearby cabin offers you soothing tranquility. For the early riser, get a cup of coffee and enjoy yourself on the deck or take a nice walk on a road less traveled (Hogback Rd.) for a scenic view. When you arrive late and hungry and tired, there is a Belgium waffle maker on the kitchen counter. In the pantry under the stairway, there is waffle mix [THERE IS OIL BUT NEED EGGS] and syrup. In the refrigerator, there are sticks of butter. Mixing bowls, spatulas, utensils, and plates are provided in the kitchen cupboards. If you desire a cup of coffee, there is a Keurig on the counter with coffee pods and creamers in the drawer below. Those of you who brought your favorite coffee beans, in the cupboard to the right of the sink, there is a grinder and a French Press. Also, in the cupboard, is a white electric teapot for the hot water. Also, the cabin provides bed linen and towels. There is a laundry hamper in the upstairs bathroom and the downstairs closet across from the pantry. (Please put used linen and towels in the hampers at the end of your visit) If you are looking for additional trash bags, on the dining table side of the stove counter, there is a low level storage door containing trash bags. Outside under the deck, are two sanitation containers for trash and recycle. Thank you for using them. Know what poison oak looks like if you plan on hiking through the mountain brush and dress appropriately. In the down stair's bathroom, there is cleansing solutions for before and after encountering poison oak. We look forward to suggestions that would enhance your experience. Getting AroundYour comfortable location at Peaceful Heavenly Retreat is about 7.3 miles to both park's entry. In less than 2 miles, the junction dividing a different direction for the two parks. To the left is Kings Canyon National Park. 10.5 miles from the cabin is the Grant Grove Visitor Center. At the Visitor Center, there is a large screen presentation of the canyon that is worth the viewing. In less than a mile from the Center is the incredible grove of giant trees including the General Grant Tree. Also, very close to the Center, is the Grant Grove Touring Horseback facility. [The phone number is (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)] Continuing to view the Kings Canyon, from the cabin (17 miles), is the turnoff to Hume Lake (about another 3 miles to the lake). In another mile, your first spectacular view of the Kings Canyon is about 18 miles from the cabin. At 31 miles is Boyden Cave and the bridge over the South Fork Kings River. (The water is very swift. Be careful.) At 36 miles, is Grizzly Falls. Stop and enjoy the mist. 5 more miles is the Cedar Grove Visitor Center and Cedar Grove Touring Horseback facility. [The phone number is (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)] To finish the end of the road, the Roaring River and its paved path is 4 miles from the Center, and the Road End is 6 miles from the Center. At the Road End is a Ranger Station. If you are taking just a day hike (out and back such as Mist Fall), make a curious contact at the Ranger Station. If your intentions are to stay over night in the wilderness, you need a wilderness permit. [Contact the Cedar Grove Visitor Center to acquire a permit: (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)] In the near future, I will provide distance to Sequoia key locations. Other Things to NoteIf you are coming from the SOUTH (thru Bakersfield), map quest the town of Traver then map quest Save-mart at 1580 E Manning Ave in Reedley, to connect to Hwy 180. At Save-mart, you can load up on additional provision so you are ready for great fun; Catty corner: Rite-Aid: for other beverage choices. (From here, check-out the paragraph after the Central Coast directions.) Those coming from the CENTRAL COAST have traveled on Hwy 46 and bend North onto Hwy 41. After passing Lemoore, you are looking to turn East on Mtn. View (Ave 416). You will cross Hwy 99 and you can map quest Save-mart at 1580 E Manning Ave in Reedley to connect to Hwy 180. [I would travel to Rd 56 then turn North to Save-mart's location.] At Save-mart, you can load up on additional provision so you are ready for great fun; Catty corner: Rite-Aid: for other beverage choices. **For those from SOUTH and CENTRAL COAST here is the short cuts to connect to Hwy 180. We are at Save-mart in Reedley for provisions (Make sure you have eggs to make some waffles when you are hungry and tired). We will go North on Buttonwillow Ave; In 4 miles, make a Right on E American Ave (can't make a Left turn); In 4.5 miles, make a Left on Cove Ave (to the right are numerous radio towers). Cove Ave dead ends in 4 miles into Hwy 180. Turn right to climb up towards the mountains. You will climb 1, 2, 3 thousand feet on Hwy 180. At 4 thousand feet, just before the Snowlike Lodge, you will recognize a change in the environment. Be on the look out for the 5 thousand ft marker, for you are 1.3 miles to the turnoff onto Hwy 245. [At the turnoff, it is six miles to the park entry on Hwy 180 and five miles on Hwy 245 to Pinehurst. To reach the cabin, after about 4 miles on 245, turn left onto Hogback Rd to Peaceful Heavenly Retreat (.2 miles).] Text me if you have any upcoming questions. **For you TRAVELING FROM THE NORTH, your initial target is Fresno using Hwy 99. Once on 99 in Fresno, you are looking to merge off and onto Hwy 180 heading East to the mountains. IN THE MTNS, groceries are scarce and if you forgot something, you will be glad you stopped. So after leaving Fresno, map quest Walmart, 2761 Jenson Ave, Sanger for provisions (Make sure you have eggs to make the waffles mix when you are hungry and tired). Your next map quest to set your compass onto the mountains is the School House Tavern at 1018 S Frankwood Ave. From this point, you have a short distance to begin the climb into the mountains, You will climb 1, 2, 3 thousand feet on Hwy 180. NOW EVERYONE HAS ARRIVE: If you are arriving at night, there are solar spotlights on the gateposts shining at the flag and the lock box. (You will receive the passcode the week you are traveling) With the passcode, unlock and remove three colored keys and re-lock the box. The yellow key ring will open the gate lock on the right side. The purple key ring opens the cabin entry doors and the blue key ring will open the outside door on the back deck for access to the water heater. Turn the thermostat knob to your desirer. At the end of your visit, lower the thermostat knob to the lower vacation temperature. In the cabin, there are Three Lamp Lights on timer control: One in the living room and one in each bedroom. Locate the lamps on timer and slide the switch to the Left. This gives you control of the Lamp's Light. At the conclusion of your visit, turn the Three Lamp Lights On and slide the switch to the Right that gives the Timer On and Off control. Thank you If the season requires a fire, here is the procedures. Fireplace: On the right bottom edge, there is a lever that you can pull toward you or pushback. The back position is high, middle is middle, and forward is low. The high position is for getting the fire started. In the small bucket is Manzanita. It burns very hot, so you only need a little. Enjoy your fire building. Once the fire is going well move the lever to the middle position. If you are adding wood, move the lever back and slowly open the fire door to reduce smoke into the cabin. Add the wood, latch door, move lever to middle position. When the heat is approaching comfort, slow down the burn by moving the lever forward. Wood and kindling (in wooden box) is stacked outside the backdoor. Please reload the backdoor wood rack from the two wood stacks for the next visitors. Have a great time.

Fivespot is just 15 minutes to Kings Canyon - Sequoia National Park in California's spectacular Sierra Nevada.

There is Direct TV in the family room and master bedroom, along with high speed internet throughout the house. The house is an older mobile home that has been remodeled on the inside. The property is located off a dirt road, on a working horse/cattle ranch so there may be dust and occasional animal disruptions.

Quiet, cozy, inspiring, art-filled: Fivespot is a relaxing destination for a week or weekend. Perfect for couples or small families, enjoy the books, the sauna and outdoor shower, the claw-foot bathtub, the fireplace, and lots of cozy pillows and throws. Feeling creative? Add something to the chalkboard wall, or stroll to the hilltop behind the cabin and sketch the surrounding foothills. Several painters and writers have already used Fivespot as a personal artistic retreat - you can too! There's comfort and convenience: a covered stone patio, gas bbq, kitchen with all the trimmings, and lots of outdoor space means you can cook and dine inside or out. Year-round comfort and fun at Fivespot: Summer is the high season in the Sierras, for good reason: the sun shines from June through October. Hiking trails are open, wildlife and wildflowers abound. But we locals enjoy the fall, winter, and spring even more: sun gives way to rain and snow, life quiets down, time to rest and renew. Fivespot is perfect for an off-season retreat. The road to the cabin is kept cleared of snow, and the road into the Parks is accessible if you have 4-wheel drive or chains (we can help you with that). The fireplace and sauna keep you cozy; you've got time to think, write, read, or just relax. It's a delightful time of year - please consider a visit! Winter activities at and around Fivespot: Winter is never far from Fivespot: at 4000' elevation, we get at least one substantial storm each year. If you are lucky enough to be here at the perfect moment, you can snowshoe right out the back door. But the cabin is also perfectly situated for near-certain winter adventures - it's just a 15 minute drive to the entrance of Kings Canyon National Park, where sequoias are blanketed in deep snow all winter. And Fivespot is located on a well-maintained state road, so getting here is easy. Snow play, snow shoeing, and cross-country skiing are these Parks' best winter activities.

Fall is a wonderful time in Pinehurst, and Merrynook is a delightful cabin to enjoy the cooler weather and the first rains of fall. Built in the 1930s as a restaurant (serving chicken!) when logging was a way of life in the southern Sierra Nevada foothills, today Merrynook is an art-filled garden cabin just a short drive from Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks and Sequoia National Forest. It's a 2-bedroom, 1-bath cabin with a full kitchen, laundry, gas BBQ, and outdoor garden spaces for dining and relaxing. The mattresses - one queen, one full, and one twin on the floor in a tiny bedroom - are all new memory foam. Bachrun and Mahalia LoMele own and manage Merrynook, and its sister cabin next door, fivespot. They have been vacation hosts in Pinehurst since 2008.
