The cottage is ideal for family a get-together, meetings of friends or the romantic weekend for 2. Here at the Hollyhock Guest House you will sleep peacefully to wake up rested and energized, ready for an Oregon adventure. From the bright blue porch you step right into the living room featuring a large screen TV, special sound system with a DVD player along with a collection of movies to suit every taste. The walls are decorated with paintings of a unique local artist, and reflect the rugged beauty of this area. The comfortable sofa is a queen size hide-a-bed. Cozy dawn blankets and linens are provided. The bedroom has a queen size bed with a high quality mattress, and down blankets with colorful linens. From here, you can step out into your own private garden for your morning coffee, or to relax under the trees in the lawn chairs. The bathroom has been remodeled and features custom-built wood cabinets, vanity mirrors and a combination tub/shower unit. It is well stocked with large fluffy towels, and French lavender soap.(URL HIDDEN) The kitchen has all the equipment necessary to make cooking a fun and easy experience. It is stocked with the basic condiments, an assortment of herbs and spices as well as gourmet cookware, blender, microwave, and a Senseo coffee machine (bring your own espresso pads or buy them from us). In the warm seasons you can dine on the porch surrounded by flowering trees and shrubs, while on colder days you can enjoy your meals in the cozy inside dining area. The extra remodeled barn-room is available for hanging out to play games, read, or watch a movie, and can sleep two more people in a cinch. The NeighborhoodMitchell is a little town with pioneer spirits located just off Hwy 26. It is surrounded by breathtaking rugged landscape and the famous Painted hills are around the corner, just 10 minutes away by car. There is a gas station, a tire service station, post office, 2 restaurants and an espresso shack. The local store has basic groceries as well as fishing and hunting supplies. Getting AroundA car is absolutely necessary. Make sure your spare tire is good and your tires have enough air. Some of the best spots for swimming, fishing, hiking, and photographing are reached by rougher country roads.

The sun-flooded living room features a cozy sofa bed that can easily accommodate extra guests. There are big screen TV’s with DVD systems and international movie collections for fun entertainment. Wifi is available throughout the house and garden. Pets are welcome here too.The famous Painted Hills are only 15 minutes away by car and where ever you go from here - the wild beauty of Eastern Oregon will surround you and amaze you. The fragrant garden has an abundance of different kind of fruit trees and bushes and guests are invited to pick whatever is ripe through the seasons such as berries, grapes, plums, and pears. The charming Hollyhock Guesthouse, located in the quaint town of Mitchell, is a cozy one bedroom cottage ideal for a romantic getaway but can easily accommodate a small family of 4. The cottage is well equipped with everything needed to make it the perfect base to explore this breathtaking area with comfortable furniture, high quality beds, and European down comforters. Beautiful Landscape paintings of the area, painted by the owners father, and other international art give the place an artsy ambient. An extra remodeled Barn attached to the house functions as a game and kids room that is shared by both cottages but can be exclusively used by either property for $50/night. The kitchen is stocked with a great set of herbs and spices, olive oil, and fresh eggs from our own chickens (when available). A lovely floral garden surrounds the property giving you all the privacy and beauty needed to have a great vacation. We invite you to pick seasonal fruits and harvest culinary herbs growing throughout the garden and feast your senses at all the colors and smells.The newly remodeled bathroom has a large step in shower with a great rain shower head and features organic soap, shampoo, and conditioner as well as abundant fluffy towels. The Sunset Cottage is the new addition to the popular Painted Hills Vacation Rentals located in a quit neighborhood in the small town of Mitchell. This spacious comfy cottage sits on the edge of a rim overlooking the town, hills, and the looming Bailey Rock. It's just recently been remodeled and features 3 bedrooms with high quality matrasses and European style down comforters, 2 bathrooms, a big country kitchen with all the cookware, herbs and spices, olive oil, vinegar, utensils and more to cook up a memorable meal. The living room has an extra pull out sofa bed for additional guests. There is Wifi, and AC. The garden has shady old plum and apricot trees that invite you to sit and relax. The famous Painted Hills ( just named one of the 7th wonders of Oregon by TravelOregon), are just 12 minutes away by car and the other 2 units of the John Day Day Fossil Beds, Sheep Rock and Clarno, are easy to reach via "the Journey through Time " Scenic Byeway. The area is famous for it's ancient history and it's geological significance on a global scale. Breathtaking vistas around every bend of the road await you and the hiking is great! The Ochocco wilderness ,15 miles away from Mitchell offers cross country skiing and sledging in the winter, mushroom hunting and Thunder Egg mining in the summer.

The house is located about 3 miles outside of Fossil to the North at 17816 Hoover Creek Rd. It is a perfect location out of town with no neighbors in view. Please keep in mind this is an old farmhouse... it is not a new home in the suburbs. It is not perfect- but well lived in. You will be in the middle of farming fields. Keep in mind the way of living here still continues even though you are on vacation. There may be farm equipment harvesting or cowboys moving cattle at anytime. Feel free to grab some morning coffee and just enjoy the sounds and sights. This old Farmhouse is situated in the middle of alfalfa fields and lots of wildlife. The house has 3 bedrooms; 1 king, 1 queen, and 2 twins that can sleep a total of 7 people.

You are probably going to see lots of wildlife from deer, elk, coyotes, and maybe a rabbit or two. It is quite and beautiful here. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation but besides cars , motorcycles and bicycles are an everyday type of transportation around here. Other Things to NoteDuring different parts of the year there may be machinery working the fields or cowboys moving cattle so be ready to enjoy the sounds of a working ranch.

Getting AroundYou need you own car with good tires, best would be All Wheel Drive if you want to visit Sutton Mountain or some of the best swimming and hiking places along the John Day River which are only accessible by gravel country road. Other Things to NoteWe're the only accommodation in town who allow pets.

The kitchen is stocked with a great set of herbs and spices, olive oil, and fresh eggs from our own chickens (when available). A lovely floral garden surrounds the property giving you all the privacy and beauty needed to have a great vacation. The Sunset Cottage is the new addition to the popular Painted Hills Vacation Rentals located in a quit neighborhood in the small town of Mitchell. The house is located about 3 miles outside of Fossil to the North at 17816 Hoover Creek Rd. It is a perfect location out of town with no neighbors in view. Please keep in mind this is an old farmhouse... it is not a new home in the suburbs. It is not perfect- but well lived in. You will be in the middle of farming fields. Keep in mind the way of living here still continues even though you are on vacation. There may be farm equipment harvesting or cowboys moving cattle at anytime. Feel free to grab some morning coffee and just enjoy the sounds and sights. This old Farmhouse is situated in the middle of alfalfa fields and lots of wildlife. The house has 3 bedrooms; 1 king, 1 queen, and 2 twins that can sleep a total of 7 people.

The SpaceOur house has been completely updated with new furnishings and amenities with a modern design aesthetic to showcase the open and spacious layout and provide plenty of room to relax. Our backyard is very large with a covered patio for sitting or grilling and looks out into open spaces to make it feel private. We have two bedrooms and one bathroom with an additional queen size sleeper sofa in the living room. Bedrooms Each bedroom has a new queen sized memory foam mattress with soft and comfortable sheets. One of the bedrooms is roomy with additional seating and a large closet, while the other is fairly small, but easily fits two guests and their belongings. We provide plenty of extra blankets and linens to make sure you are comfortable at all times. Kitchen Our large kitchen has stainless steel appliances including a large refrigerator, dishwasher and propane gas stove. It is well stocked with dishware and cookware along with cooking staples such as spices and oil making it easy to cook all your favorite meals. We also have a propane grill in our back yard, with propane included! We have a Keurig single serve coffee maker with several complimentary pods to use and a coffee press if you bring ground coffee (We do not have a coffee grinder). Our dining table is extendable for seating and we provide extra chairs for seating up to six people. Living room The living room has a Sleeper Sofa, two accent chairs and a desk and chair, along with a TV. For entertainment, we provide a DVD player with a selection of movies, a Roku player that can be used with your personal Netflix, Hulu, Prime or other streaming accounts, free wifi, and a selection of books and games to use. We do not have cable or satellite TV. Outdoor Area We have a large back yard with a relaxing covered patio with open views and outdoor seating for 6. We have a propane grill available for use (with complimentary propane provided) and a croquet and corn hole set for entertainment. Bathroom We provide plenty of large and comfortable towels along with shampoo, conditioner and body wash for use in our shower. Garage & Parking There is a driveway and side lot large enough to park several cars or an RV. The garage can be used to store any large personal belongings, motorcycles, bicycles, etc, but is not used for parking vehicles. Communications We have free wifi for your personal use, but cell phone service can be quite limited to non existent in the area. We have a home telephone that can be used for any local calls, but we do not have a long distance plan so recommend bringing a phone card if you will need to make long distance calls. Washer & Dryer We have a washer and dryer available for use with laundry laundry detergent provided. Guest AccessGuests have access to the whole house and front and back yard. There are two sheds on property and a locked pantry that are off limits. Interaction with GuestsWe do not live in Mitchell but usually answer calls and emails quickly. We have a local contact for any immediate needs. The NeighborhoodMitchell is a very small town with a brewery, several restaurants, a market with a limited assortment of goods and a gas station. The open hours for all can be vary depending on the day so you may want to be prepared for that. Getting AroundA car is necessary to get around the area, and some areas may require a 4 wheel drive if you want to explore more remote areas. Main Street in Mitchell is an easy walk from our front door, or parking is readily available. Other Things to Note2017 Solar Eclipse: Mitchell is one of the best places in the country to view the total solar eclipse. The Twickenham Vacation House is centered on our 1000+ acre working ranch in a secluded and scenic valley. Upon entering the house, you encounter breath taking views through floor to ceiling windows of the surrounding mountains, alfalfa fields, orchard and river. The Sutton Mountain Wilderness area is located directly behind the house and access to the John Day River for fishing, rafting, tubing and swimming is in front. Out back beside the 100 year old smoke house is a barn where you can keep your horses for trail riding. The shop/garage contains river toys (2 canoes, kayak, tubes), trailer, and plenty of space for bicycles and/or vehicles. This "fly-in" house is on a private airstrip (04OR) with parking right along the driveway. Permission must be obtained before using airstrip. A courtesy car is available. The main floor is open concept featuring 20 foot ceilings, skylights, a wood burning stove, a fireplace, and walls of windows. There is a spacious, fully equipped kitchen, large dining table, elegant living room and comfortable family room. Three large sliding doors lead to an expansive deck where you can take in the fresh air and tranquility, grill and dine. All four bedrooms have scenic views, three with deck/patio access. There are three full bathrooms. The master bathroom was just completely remodeled. The rec room has a wood burning stove where you can hang out, watch movies in surround-sound on Blu-ray and play x-Box 360. Sliding doors lead out to a lower outside patio and deck with additional seating, table with fire pit, lawn and hammock under the birch trees. During your stay, you will enjoy fine furnishings, bedding, and kitchen ware. For all of your groceries, there is a walk in refrigerator with tap for your beer keg if you desire as well as an upright freezer. High-Speed satellite internet and land line are provided for your communication needs as there is no cell phone service in the valley.

The Clarno unit is close to Fossil, about an hour drive from Mitchell. Another one of the 7 wonders of Oregon- the awesome Smith Rock is about 1.5 hours away. All routes are on "the Journey through Time" scenic byway and the drives pass through spectacular diverse landscapes with magnificent views around every bend of the road. There is an abundance of outdoor recreation like hiking, fishing, bird and wild life watching, swimming or rafting the John Day River and hunting for fossils. It's possible to dig your own fossils in the Wheeler High School Fossil Beds for a small fee.

Eastern Oregon is famous for its unique landscapes, rugged beauty, and rich wildlife. It's a geological wonderland full of ancient history and adventure that invites you to explore and connect with Mother Nature in her purest form. The John Day Fossil Beds National Monument: The John Day Fossil National Monument has 3 units, all easily reached by scenic roads that pass through spectacular landscapes. The Painted Hills, poetically beautiful at any time, are only 15 minutes away from Mitchell and provide a glimpse of this areas ancient history. The second unit called Sheep Rock is about a 40 minute drive away and is the location of the Thomas Condon Visitor Center and Museum of Paleontology. A great place to see fossils and replicas of prehistoric plants and animals. Its great for children of all ages. Not far from there is the Cant Ranch House presenting the historical aspect of area with artifacts from pioneer days. The Blue Basin is a favorite of ours. Its a mile from the visitor center and has excellent hiking paths through amazing rock formations in all shades of greens and blues. The 3rd unit is found near the town of Fossil and is called the Clarno Formation, gigantic rock palisades made from volcanic mud and lava flows millions of years ago. The John Day River: The John Day River is one of the longest un-dammed rivers of North America. It flows wild and free through canyons, gorges, and picture-book wilderness, passing incredible rock formations and rugged landscapes, pastures, and sandy river beaches. The John Day River is magical in all the seasons, and is inviting you to explore, discover,hike, swim, raft, and fish. There are many areas off the beaten track where you can experience the river in all its glory, no matter what the season. There are many places along the John Day River beds that ares brimming with wild life, rare birds and plants. There is always something to see and discover! In winter the river is often frozen and has a different kind of beauty. In spring it is swollen with melting water from the mountains and rushes through the valleys with a powerful force. Summer its rafting time and taking a cooling plunge from the rocks into a swimming hole. We would love to show you our favorite river spots! The Ochoco National Wilderness: The Ochoco National Wilderness is a short drive away from Mitchell and has much to offer through all the seasons from cross country skiing to fishing in a clear mountain lake. There are various snow-parks, protected wilderness recreation areas, and hiking paths through old growth. The Lucky Strike Mine is located there, a great place for the kids , where you can find thunder eggs and other great rocks.

You’ll love my place because of the outdoors space and available nearby fishing, hunting, horseback riding or available roads for ATV riding on 320 acres close to the Ochoco National Forest. Hiking in the nearby Wilderness Areas or in the Painted Hills Unit of the John Day National Monument. You can enjoy the night sky as we have large outdoor decks. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and families (with kids).
