Guest AccessGuests may utilize all common areas in the cabin (with respect to house rules). There is a small curtained utility, laundry, and loft access area next to kitchen for host use only. Relax, read, watch movies, listen to music, play games, look out at nature, etc.. You are welcome to utilize space in the refrigerator. Wandering the grounds, meadow, gardens, and taking advantage of nature trails is encouraged. Interaction with GuestsThis location offers great access to many locations and activities but can also be a very private and peaceful retreat setting. I am happy to entertain guests with as much or little interaction as desired. Dan has lived in both the Bar Harbor and Greater Bangor areas for a good number of years and am happy to share information regarding favorite and out of the way destinations. Additionally, I am very much willing to share the permaculture activities taking place on the grounds. The NeighborhoodAfter you turn off the main road, you'll travel up a private gravel road. The cabin sits about 1 mile in on this road. With just a few quiet neighbors and no street lights, you'll feel you are in the heart of nature. Aside from periodic sounds of a few local poultry, you'll hear wind rustling through the trees, owls hooting, and possibly the patter of rain on the metal roof. With no street lights, star gazing doesn't get any better. Night time is perfect for a campfire and smores. Getting AroundThe cabin is only about 5 mi. from Interstate 95 so travel north and south is very convenient. Less than 10 mi. away you'll find the Northern Pond Nature Reserve, famous Dysart's Truck Stop, Winterport Winery, and Hermon Mountain Ski Area. Less than 20 mi. away you'll find the queen cities of Bangor and Brewer, two terrific Maine State Parks (Swan Lake and Fort Knox) including Penobscot Narrows Bridge and Observatory and also the closest seaport village of Bucksport. Less than 30 mi. away are the University of Maine at Orono, the Maine antique capital and village of Searsport, Great Pond Mountain in Orland, and picturesque seaside town of Belfast. Areas that are a bit further but doable as day trips include Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Baxter State Park, and Whitewater Rafting. Other Things to NoteBeing in the woods and all, we do have a network expander to enhance cell phone coverage. Most times it's just me in the cabin. Aside from that, there are nights that my daughter or another guest will be here in another room.

The SpaceThis classic turquoise and gold camper is actually a time machine that will take you back to a simpler era. Inside you have a stove and oven, a dining table, and three beds. Out side, you have a sink, a composting outhouse and a private shower. While there is no pluming out in the pasture, we have 5 gallon LL Bean solar water bags for you warm water needs and fresh drinking water on tap inside the camper. There is a wood burning hot tub that can be fired up for your stay for an additional $40. Our space here at the farm is one that is full of peace and also fun. We are musicians and love to get the instruments out after a long day of work. We will be having pizza and music nights at least once a month. Guest AccessGuests have the freedom to walk around and visit animals. Interaction with GuestsWe will greet guests unless another arrangement is made. We host workshops and guests are free to attend. The NeighborhoodJust down the road, in the town of Brooks , there is a lovely community owned natural food store Co Op. Further away, about 20 minutes, you'll find the town of Belfast. Belfast is the quintessential Maine harbor town. There you'll find wonderful restaurants, a historic theater, a fabulous city park, beautiful views, shopping and more. We also have Swan Lake park that is about a 15 minute drive where there are playgrounds, grills, and a gorgeous lake for swimming. Other Things to NoteWe have two farm dogs, both are friendly and kid safe.

The SpaceOne of just a few camp sites in an area the size of a football field. Campers share access to water, trash receptacle, campfire pit, and cooking grill. Foliage around each site provides a sense of privacy. Guest AccessCampers are encouraged to explore the entire grounds including the food forest, vegetable gardens, private wood's trail, and interact with farm animals as recommended by Dan. The log cabin interior is for cabin guests only. Interaction with GuestsDan is willing to interact as much or little as is desired by each guests preference. Very much willing to share knowledge about the area and personal experiences. The NeighborhoodA mile in off the paved road with a few quiet neighbors up at this end of the road. Getting AroundThis has been noted by guests as a great location for those travelling to and from Canada, as a stop along the way during a tour of New England, and a nice central area for a longer stay while doing day trips to the coast such as the Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor area and events in the greater Bangor area. Other Things to NoteThis campsite provides the tent and air mattress but does not include things such as electricity, lanterns, bedding, cookware, dishes, and towels. These are the things you may or may not need to plan on. If you would like to bring your own tent and mattresses, that is okay as long as you let Dan know what your size requirements are ahead of time. If you are travelling as light as possible, you can check with Dan to see if he has additional items available for use.

The SpaceRustic, Campy, Quaint, Woodsy, Off the beaten path, secluded, private, quiet, breakfasts always include some food sourced right from the garden or coop which is all natural {no chemicals or pesticides used here). Trails on and close to the property are great for strolling. Guest AccessAside from your private guest room, the kitchen, dining, living, and bath are shared common spaces. There is one other guest room listed. See listing for details. There is a curtained utility, laundry, and loft access area next to kitchen for host use only. Interaction with GuestsDan is open to various levels of interaction. I go with the flow and wish for each guest to have the experience they hope for. I've lived in the Bar Harbor/Acadia and greater Bangor areas for a good number of years and am willing to share everything I know. The NeighborhoodMerchant Rd. is a private road with only a handful of residences. The drive in is only a mile off the paved road but even so, some guests still report a sensation of entering the twilight zone, especially if they happen to arrive after dark. Probably because of seeing too many horror movies. Rest assured, the property is perfectly safe. The front door is rarely locked but you can have it any which way when you're here. You will experience a remote feeling. If that is not your thing, you might want to look elsewhere. Getting AroundWe are in the Bangor metro area which is a great jumping off point to inland mountains and downeast coastal areas. We are one stop sign and 20 minutes away from Bangor city limits. 17 miles might seem like a long way but comparatively, driving in a city, it may take 20 minutes to drive 5 miles. It's all relative. Basically, you can have your cake and eat it too by staying in a woodsy Maine getaway and still be close to urban offerings. Most people do want to see the major tourist attractions but there are also more local, less crowded, and closer activities that you may want to add to your itinerary. Dan is happy to assist with any of your planning. Other Things to NoteWifi provides great internet. Because of the metal roof, I need a network extender for my personal cell phone which may or may not link to your service. Outside the house, phone reception is fine from towers.
