The SpaceThe cottage is perfect for anyone seeking a moment of peace and quiet. But it is close to the modern conveniences of a historic yet bustling rural town; all within picturesque walking distance. The original cottage was a typical two-roomed Cape vernacular cottage. Over the years a sun-room was added facing the Cape fold mountains. There is still the original bakood chimney with a large kitchen. The cottage has two full bedrooms with queen and double beds. The main bedroom has a private pergola covered-stoep with views over bougainvilleas toward the Langeberg. There is a fully restored bathroom and a separate loo. The more formal lounge has a separate chill space which leads to a lovely secluded outside area under a large Karee tree with a braai and views over the play park to the kloof and mountains. Guest AccessThe guests have access to the entire house and garden. Interaction with GuestsAs we are mostly in Cape Town we might not meet all our guests. We do however have a overseer who lives across from us who will open and close up for our guests and assist with any queries. The NeighborhoodThe area is separated from Montagu town by a river and has a distinct, more rural character. It is a very historic area with many old houses, all fairly similar, creating a distinct precinct. This area, although a short walk to town, is closely connected to the natural environment, both visually and physically. There is a nature park two roads away with breathtaking walks and trails through the kloof to the Avalon hot springs and the Bloupunt mountain trail. Getting AroundAs far as I know, there is minimal or no public transport in Montagu. Other Things to NoteGuests are welcome to bring their dstv decoder as there is a satellite dish and TV for them to connect to. Also, there is no telephone connection, but internet connection could be available though the guests cell phones.

The SpaceThe property is 1000 m2 in size with a plunge pool and sundeck. The guest cottage is adjacent to a terraced private garden for guests with sitting nooks dotted around it. The property boarders on a river and has panoramic views of the surrounding mountains within the nature reserve. The garden is filled with Strelitziae, Frangipani, Lavender, Bougainvilleae and abundant bird life. A pair of fish eagles is often seen flying over the terrace. Ideal for nature lovers. The cottage we rent out is double-storeyed with a spacious loft bedroom with double bed and air conditioner. The ground floor has a cosy sitting area with a comfortable double bed sleeper couch. There is a small dining space with cooking nook (kitchenette) and a bathroom with shower. The cottage is ideal for 2 guests, but can easily accomodate up to 4 people. There is secure parking for 1 or 2 cars behind a lockable gate. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire garden area, including the pool. Interaction with GuestsGuests will be met and shown around by the caretaker and return the keys on leaving (unless another arrangement is made). That will be the only guest interaction. We have a guest book for our guests and would like to hear more about your stay - besides the official airbnb comments. That will help us to improve the conditions of staying there. And we would like to learn a bit more about our guest - so don't be shy and write in it. The NeighborhoodMontagu is a picturesque town at the beginning of the famous route 62 meandering through the Klein Karoo desert up to Oudthshoorn capital of the ostrich farms The premises is in a quiet part of town directly neighbouring the nature reserve with wonderful hiking trails and mountain climbing spots. The town itself has a few small town attractions, like the natural hot springs, farmer's market (on saturdays), dried fruit factory, alpaca farm, museums, art galleries and quite a few restaurants. But in our opinion it is the splendor of the natural environment which makes Montagu so special. You may explore parts of it in the Botanical Garden in Montagu South. Getting AroundIt is essential to have a car to get to Montagu and to get around the area. Other Things to NoteYes, we have a weber!

The SpaceThe Kogman & Keisie Guest Farm is nestled between the charming village of Montagu and the mountains of Montagu Nature Reserve in the Klein Karoo. The name of the farm is derived from the dramatic Cogmans Kloof Valley and the modest Keisie River that meets here. We provide guests with luxury self-catering and guesthouse accommodation. The cottages and rooms are stylish and each of them is unique. We take pride in developing our farm and cottages into eco-friendly living spaces and accommodation. A hearty farm breakfast is included for guesthouse guests and all guests are allowed to share in farm produce when available. Kogman and Keisie is also a working farm with olive trees, farm animals and a small vineyard. We grow our own vegetables, pomegranates, and lavender and enjoy fresh farm eggs from our faithful hens daily. Our handful of sheep, ducks and geese complete the picture. During the hot summer days, we cool down in the swimming pool or wait for the sun to make way for the unsurpassable Karoo night sky, to the whisper of the windmill turning in the lazy evening breeze. In winter, keep cozy and warm and witness the sun colouring the early morning mist with an array of orange, pink and yellows. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to explore the whole property! Interaction with GuestsMy wife and I love helping guests with information and tips. When we are not here our staff is also available. The NeighborhoodMore about Montagu The community with heart in the heart of Route 62 Montagu, the Gateway to the Karoo, is a village with soul. Here you will find a community of smiles and sunshine, people who ask how you are - and wait for the answer, people who quickly progress from acquaintances to friends. Once voted Village of the Year, not only for the gorgeous views, beautiful architecture and excellent Hot Springs - but for the homeliness and hospitality of our people that set us apart from the rest. You will find us a mere hop, skip and a jump from Cape Town - which makes us an excellent weekend destination at only 200kms distant. Daytime Activities Wine is one of our best-kept secrets - you will find over 45 different cellars offering some of the finest wines money can buy. We pride ourselves on being unpretentious - so, you'll actually find us encouraging you to enjoy your tasting and not spit out the fruits of our labours.... You could even go on the new and fast growing Route 62 Wine Tours, so no need to drive after the winetasting! The NeighborhoodMontague is hands-down one of the most picturesque towns in the Western Cape, if not South Africa, not just according to the locals and many visitors, but also according to the panel of judges who awarded it the Village of the Year in 2002. This peaceful town is steeped in history and is famous for its awe inspiring rock formations, orchards, vineyards, local herbs and healing hot mineral springs. Visitors will discover the Wildflower Nature garden, bird sanctuaries, nature reserve, museums, art galleries, historic homes, lovely hiking trails, 4X4 and mountain bike trails and ideal rock climbing opportunities. Approaching Montagu from the Breede River one travels alongside the old Bain’s road through the spectacular Cogmans Kloof eventually negotiating the Hole in the Rock, known locally as the Gateway to the Klein Karoo. Montagu is blessed with the wonderful climate that the Western Cape offers. It has warm to hot summers, mild winters and long spring and autumn months. The town is surrounded with hills. The unpolluted horizon is one of the chief attractions. Flowers are a passion among the town’s gardeners. The annual Rose show in October is the showcase for the towns famous range of roses. One of Montagu’s chief attractions are the radioactive hot springs situated on the edge of the present day town. It is not certain when these were first discovered but the refreshing and healing waters were known about in the early history of the town. Getting AroundThere isn't much available in terms of public transport so a car is required to make the most of your stay. There is ample parking available.
