The SpaceWe have a four-person tent, with a REAL MATTRESS and clean sheets & blankets for two. (Yes, we wash them after each camper, that is part of what you are paying for.) It's on level ground under a magical oak tree. You'll have a fit pit with grill and a hammock for lounging as well. There is a Winnebago, that we lovingly named Wilson parked at the base of our little valley. We think of it as a community kitchen, there's a stove, electricity, Internet & places to sit. We have places for up to five tents. Well, I suppose there is more space, but let's just start with five. We hope to foster an environment for travelers & vacationers alike. We have a small forested area and a short hike to views of the lake & Mt.Shasta, and are just moments from a Wild Horse Reserve, there you can hike in as well. We are a about a mile from the lake & a five minute drive to a great place to put in some tubes or a small boat and go floating. We can help this make this happen if this is something you are interested in. It's all really quite peaceful & beautiful, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. Guest AccessYou have access to the entire property, come and go as you please. Interaction with GuestsWe'll give you a tour, of course, and we'll be around. We live in a little house on the other side of the property We like to hang out, if you like to hang out. We're nice people, been to at least 30 countries between us. He is from France, so we speak Franglish here. We got married last January; we turned 30 last year. However, we have our own space & so will you. The choice is yours. We may have other campers, and we ask that everyone to respect each others space...there's plenty of it. The NeighborhoodWe live a quick mile walk from Iron Gate Lake Resevoir, andwhere you can discover private beach areas and swimming areas We are about a 5 minute drive from the Fish Hook Restaurant, were you can get steak & fish & pastas, and buy some over priced beer. Other than that, we are a 20 minute drive to Hornbrook proper, where you will find a diner open weekday mornings serving breakfast, and the First & Last Chance Saloon (truly wild west) & a Pizza Place open Thursday-Sunday after 4pm. Also, in the neighborhood, as in our street, you will find... not a single other house, but an excellent view of Mt. Shasta and the lake, and a few folks doing off grid farming. Pretty chill... Getting AroundYou will need a car, and if it has been raining you will need 4 wheel drive. However, you can park about 100 yards and walk to the property if the roads are real bad. Summer should be fine though... However, we don't mind shuttling into Hornbrook, we just ask $5 roundtrip for gas. If you're nice we may be able to get you in Yreka, CA or Ashland, OR. Just send a message. Other Things to NoteWe live off grid. This means, that we do not have running water (we have water, it just doesn't...run), a compost toilet, and solar panels. ELECTRICITY: The solar panel only makes so much power, so you need to be aware about what you want to plug in. Most computers, cell phones and basic electronics are OK, but if want to run the internet & make a smoothie at the same you might zap all the electricity for the rest of us. INTERNET: We do have satellite internet, if you need to stay connected, just ask and we'll turn it on. We like to save power by only using it when we need it. Also, we ask NO DOWNLOADS, blasted data caps. WATER: We have some gallons of water for you at the kitchen, but it would be helpful if you were staying a while to bring some water of your own, especially if you are used to consuming the normal amount of water for people in the city. SHOWER: We have an outdoor shower; it is not plumbed. How it works, is you take a kettle of hot water to the shower; mix it with the sun warmed water there; and use a small solar power shower head to take the water from the bucket to your head . Nothing fancy. Please do come here expecting fancy. We are not fancy. TOILET: Yes, we have a compost toilet. No it doesn't smell. much. :) KITCHEN: We have a kitchen for you, technically two, one indoor and one outdoor. We have a gas BBQ and a little pit for fire cooking. We have pots, pans, and dishes too if you didn't bring any. Also, we know that we are far from stores, so if you need any extra ingredients, we have lots and you can add the the "free will food donation" jar to compensate for whatever you need.

We have not finished the outside shower. Guest AccessNorthern California experiences four distinct seasons. The Winter season is usually cold, wet and windy and the path to the Juniper Rose may be muddy, snowy and unpredictable. The Summer season can be hot as this is high desert. Spring and Fall seasons are typically prime time for reprieve. Interaction with GuestsI am more than happy to assist guests in any way. I would love to share the secrets of the Shasta Valley and surrounding mountains. Delight in hiking, swimming, kayaking/canoeing, fishing, skiing hot springs soaking and spelunking. The terrain consists of scattered lava rocks, sage and Juniper trees. please watch your step. The Juniper Rose is 15 minutes from Interstate 5 and 15 minutes from Hwy. 97 aka...The ALCAN (Alaska-Canadian Highway). We are a convenient location for stopover between Seattle, Portland, Bay area and Los Angeles. Other Things to NoteI have five dogs. Pets are welcome however, I would like clear communication about your arrival and departure. I will sequester my dogs so there is no unwanted confrontation. My dogs are generally friendly with other dogs but I would like to avoid conflict for the safety of all.
