This is a cozy room with plenty of natural light from two 7 foot tall windows, and a garden view. Please note that this is a small room. It is a pretty space with plenty of interesting décor, some very historic, but do not expect a large room as the big 4-poster bed fills it. The Space***MAX 2 ADULTS/ 3 children and peak season Saturday to Saturday 7 night minimums (June 10 - September 10)*** This is a loved and lived-in cottage. It has its interior flaws but is charming in many ways if you keep an open mind. It hasn't changed since my family bought it in the late 1950s. Other cottages have come and gone but this humble structure is happy to just be. Guest AccessThe whole cottage. Max 2 adults. No extra guests allowed on property. Private parking (up to 2 cars or a single truck). There is limited cell phone coverage in this area. Depending on your carrier you may not get reception. We have had decent service with Verizon mobile, but do not count on it. Interaction with GuestsWe'll have it ready for you around 3pm and we ask you to leave around 10am so that we can prepare the cottage for our next guests. The NeighborhoodThe big draw for the area is the tall lighthouse which was closed to the public from Nineteen Forty-Nine to Two Thousand Six. Now you can walk up it. Walk miles of shoreline on the soft, fine sand. Watch the windsurfers near the lighthouse - one of the best windsurf spots this side of the lake. Keep an eye out for the endangered Piping Plover shorebirds running along the tide. There is a small dune town with mini golf and go karts, etc. that is a 10 minute drive away. There is also dune buggy rides, seasonal berry picking, and a local fish boil that sells out at Cherry Point Mkt. on most weekends. The best kept secret is the dune park access from the water. Just walk down our steps and into park, but bring your sandals/shoes as the dunes can get hot and the dune grass sharp. Also sunscreen, water, binoculars, and a hat make it more enjoyable too. Seek out stone beds and look for "indian beads" or walk through after a storm and look for fulgurites - a delicate glass formed when lightening hits the sand. Or be extra brave and walk all the way through to Silver Lake ... but watch out for dune buggies by looking for grooves in the sand from their designated paths! Getting Aroundno public transit here. walk along the beach and forget about cars for a week. Other Things to NotePeak season Mid June- Early Sept. are Saturday to Saturday full week bookings only. Peak season is considered 6/11 - 9/10. We ask that you bring your own bed linens/towels for your visit. We do our best to get the place ready for you, but please be understanding and bring your own supplies for the week. There is a fridge and a gas stove range and basic cooking pots/pans silverware. There is hot water for shower. There is a grill outside- standing, but slightly smaller than standard size (you need charcoal which we do not supply). Be careful with fire/coals in the area as it can get very dry which creates a fire hazard for all of the dune brush and houses around the property. Same goes for fireworks - generally not a good idea, but hey they are fun with good supervision down at the beach and aimed towards the water. Bed in master bedroom is a full size. Please do not pitch tents in the front lawn. No extra guests allowed on the property at any time. All firewood must be purchased within an 8 mile radius of cabin. Mention the keywords "dune berry" in your booking inquiry and I'll know you read these details. It's about a 4.25 hour drive from chicago/burbs depending on traffic. Drive the speed limit and no higher through Holland/Grand Haven .. it's a major speed trap. About 1.25 hours from Grand Rapids.
