Accommodations in Montclair

b&b
1br b&b
This "Bed and Breakfast" type of property offers rooms and baths in a shared environment and is a perfect heaven for travelers passing through or those who come for extended stay. The location is convenient for exploring New York City (just half an hour from Times Square by bus or train) and it is recommended for those who prefer to rest in a beautiful, clean and lushly wooded suburb after an intense day in NYC. Montclair has its own Attractions: Art Museum, art cinema, seven parks designed by Olmstead Bros., ice-skating rink 5 min. from the house, and tons of exciting shops, restaurants and cafes. The house is very clean and comfortable. The beds are real and there is an assortment of sizes: three twin beds, two double size beds and one queen size bed all together. There are two full baths at the house, so sharing them is necessary when more than two separate parties are present. There is an upright Baldwin piano in the living room which you are welcome to use for your pleasure. If you choose (per arrangement with other guests, if any) to prepare your own meals, you'll find fully equipped kitchen. A $5 donation to the kitchen (when used for cooking lunch or dinner) is suggested and well appreciated. On nice days we have breakfast on my sunny deck surrounded by trees. Breakfast is included in the price and consists of coffee, tea, juice, a house special called Anna's Magical Oatmeal and Raisins, breads, cheeses and eggs. The Doremifasol is vegetarian, which means I do not serve meat, but you can bring your own as long as it was cooked somewhere else. You should have a wonderfully restful and healthful time in The Doremifasol. I hope to see you soon! Rates listed above pertain to one bedroom (accommodate up to 2 persons), 1 bath. . Depending on occupancy the bathrooms may be shared with one other party. Cats and dogs are allowed for stays shorter than two weeks @ $10/day. Guests are responsible for controlling their pets at all times while on premises. Small pets (gerbils, mice, gold fish) or pets living outside (bunny rabbits) are free of charge as long as owners take complete control of their feeding, clean up and safety. This lovely suburban neighborhood consists mostly of families with school age children. The streets are lined with old oaks and maples, the houses are beautiful and well maintained. Besides NYC being half an hour away there are many things to do here, like visit our Art Museum (10 min. ride), see a rock concert at Wellmont Theatre (5 min.drive), or a recently released foreign film at Clairidge Cinema (5 min. drive). You can catch an exquisite show at the Alexander Kasser Theatre at only $20/ticket (10 min. drive), and to complete a fulfilling evening out you can dine in a variety of excellent restaurants of varied ethnic backgrounds. Transportation to NYC is easy: the bus is 10 min.walk, the train is 15 min. walk. If you prefer to leave your car at the bus/train stop, you can do it, too. The trip lasts about 30-40 min. on either one.

The SpaceBeautiful Victorian with extensive gardens and pool. 1/2 hr from NYC via commuter bus on corner or train 2 blocks away. Walking distance to many restaurants, movie theater, parks, grocery stores. This is a 3rd floor bedroom with a queen-size bed and shared bath. A 3rd person can sleep in this room on a twin size day bed at an extra charge. The room has a desk and dresser. I have plenty of off-street parking. Free wireless internet. FIOS. The 3rd floor has two other bedrooms as described below. The 3rd floor is its own private space, with a sitting room with a TV and bathroom. You may end up sharing this space with other airbnb guests or members of my family. I will allow pets but only by special arrangement. Outdoors, the garden has flowers April-October. The pool is open June-August, although I can open it earlier or leave it open later by special request and with enough notice. In the pool area are several tables with chairs or benches, plenty of lounge chairs, and a gas grill. There is a lovely screened-in gazebo with comfortable seating as well as a small table with benches. The gazebo gives a completely different view and feel to the gardens. Near the gazebo is a pond and stream with a bench. This is a good house for children age 5 and up, especially in the summer when the pool is open. No child is allowed in the pool without a parent or responsible adult watching. The house is not toddler-proof so I prefer not to have children under 3-4 years old (except babies). This is called the Mermaid room because of paintings on the walls. Listed separately, I also have two other 3rd floor bedrooms: Trains with 2 twin beds and 1 trundle bed; and Dalmations with double bed. Guest AccessGuests may use the extensive public spaces, including two parlors, dining-room, and 2 TV rooms (1st and 3rd floor). There are no TV sets or phones in the rooms. Guests may use the kitchen for cooking and/or food storage. Guests may use my washing machine, dryer, iron and ironing board in the basement. I provide detergent and fabric softener (except for long term guests who should buy their own). I have a treadmill and a weight machine in the basement for anyone who wants to use it. Interaction with GuestsI interact with my guests as much as they seem to want. I love to talk with people, but am also happy to just say hello and goodbye if that is what guests prefer. This is my home so I am almost always around. I will allow guests to stay in the house while I am out-of-town, but no new guest can start a stay when I'm traveling. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is quiet and suburban with lots of greenery. The houses are old, most from before WW I, so the plantings and gardens are mature. My yard is unusually large. But what I like most about my location is that I can walk to almost everything I might want. There is a grocery store a block away. There are two small, quaint commercial areas within easy walking distance which have lots of restaurants, a movie theater, and some interesting shops. There is even a branch of the public library and a real independent bookstore! Montclair is a town that has far more than its share of restaurants, theaters, live music, and other cultural events. Something interesting is happening here almost every weekend. Getting AroundThe commuter bus to NYC stops on the corner 2 houses away. There is a commuter train station 2 (long) blocks away. The train does not run on the weekend. Several NJTransit local buses stop within a block or so. I have plenty of off-street parking behind the house. There is no overnight parking on the street. A taxi from Newark Liberty Airport should cost about $60 including tip. Taxis are also available at Newark Penn Station (note NEWARK, not New York) for those arriving via Amtrak, and should cost about the same price as from the airport. Other Things to NoteI usually make breakfast on Sunday mornings. For other mornings there is a coffee maker and coffee (you have to make it yourself since I don't make very good coffee), cold cereal of some kind, milk, etc.

Bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room, basement. Attic and other bedrooms off limits. Interaction with GuestsHank and I both have to work. I am happy to share any tips about the neighborhood and offer suggestions or help you in any way with your stay. We can help you navigate your way through the buses and trains into NYC. I love having people over, and I like meeting new people. We host people (Bicycle people) on a site called Warmshowers. Many international guests. I am fluent in German, Greek, French, some Spanish. Sports equipment is also available for use! Bikes (3-4), tennis rackets (3-4), golf clubs (3 bags), ice hockey, frisbee, etc. The NeighborhoodDead end street, many restaurants close by (Thai, Greek, Chinese, Mexican, Bagels, IHOP, Bagels, homemade ice cream and chocolate shop)! A huge park designed by Olmstead (also designer of Central Park in NYC) one block away - with a running track, walking paths, biking, many fields, art shows and concerts throughout the summer and fall. Use our bikes if the weather permits! Our golf clubs! Our hockey equipment! Getting AroundDeCamp Bus line #33 and #88 straight to NYC one block away at Broad Street and Watchung Avenue (there is one even closer, but that's the official stop). If there is no traffic it can be a 20 minute ride, but usually it is more like 30 minutes in or out of the city. Last bus back to NJ from NYC at 12:45 am. You could walk to the train (Montclair-Boonton line- Washington Street Station), but it would take you about 20 minutes to walk there, as it is on the other side of Bloomfield, at the other end of Broad Street (head south from Phillips Street). If you have a car, parking on street outside house temporarily OK, but please park overnight in the parking lot right next to house. About 4 steps more than parking in front of house. Phillips Street is a tight area as it is a dead end where we live. The parking lot is at the end of the street. The Garbage truck and recycling trucks might have trouble getting in and out of our street with cars parked on it. As stated above, if you don't have a car, we have a few bikes. Beautiful parks are nearby. Other Things to NotePlease ask me questions or tell me what you may need during your stay. We would like you to be as comfortable as possible.
