The SpaceThis home was originally built in Kentucky and was a one-room cabin. When The Cabins at Crabtree Falls bought the cabin, we had it disassembled and re-built again on our property with some new additions! Richard's features a master bedroom downstairs with one queen bed and also has a large and spacious sleeping-room upstairs which holds two double beds and a set of bunk beds. This cabin can comfortably sleep eight. Richard's is the only cabin to feature an indoor fireplace, as well as an outdoor fire pit and hot tub which is located on the back porch. There is a brand-new kitchen that is fully equipped. The house has two full bathrooms. The cabin is located only one quarter mile from the Crabtree Falls hike, just in the heart of Nelson County, Virginia! We are also only a 20 minute drive from the well known "Brew Ridge Trail" aka: VA-151. This is a great location for hikers, bikers, wine enthusiasts and brewery fans! Please understand that the spring and fall seasons bring a natural influx of both ladybugs and stinkbugs to the Blue Ridge Mountains. Our cabins are professionally treated, regularly, by Orkin Pest Control to control all pests. However, ladybugs and stinkbugs do not currently respond to these treatments. We vacuum them up before you arrive and during your stay if requested; however, we cannot guarantee that they will not be present at times in your cabin. This is a natural event and we are fighting the forces of nature in trying to control them. We cannot issue refunds due to the presence of ladybugs or stinkbugs. Thank you for understanding. Interaction with GuestsGuests are invited to contact the owner at any moment, however, check-in is independent.  The owner will arrange for the keys to be left for the guests in a lockbox  with a code for the guests to pickup the key and let themselves in.   That being said; the owner is available 24/7 by phone.  Additionally, the owner will contact the guest via AirBnB messaging, and/or email/phone prior to the guests’s stay to offer information on Nelson County events during the stay, the weather forecast, and information on the check-in/check-out procedure.   The NeighborhoodNelson County offers so many choices in activities in which you can partake!  There are numerous hiking trails in the area including the AT, Crabtree Falls, Spy Rock and many smaller trails off the great and beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway.  Additionally, the “Brew Ridge Trail” has become a favorite in Nelson County in the past few years!  With over five popular breweries, a cider, many wineries and even a distillery, the area has become a famous destination!  Many of these breweries and wineries (even the cidery and distillery) offer live music by local musicians!  For outdoor enthusiasts there is Luray Caverns, the Natural Bridge, biking trails, ATV trails, horseback riding tours and much more!  There is never a dull moment in Nelson County! Classic Virginia white clapboard farmhouse - on land farmed by the same family since 1843, with views of Spy Rock and Sugar Hollow. This century farm is situated on what is considered one of the most beautiful landholdings in the area. Native trout streams abound on the property - the pond is spring-fed, with a dock and adirondack chairs for sitting and relaxing. The farm house with its exposed chestnut beams, creamy white walls and yellow pine floors is quite simply amazing. An old hickory wood stove dominates the open living room and promises warmth on chilly nights. The kitchen with its vaulted ceilings, skylight and old fashioned pantry is sweet. Vaulted ceilings and large bay windows in the open master bedroom give things an open air feeling with views of the mountains and streams. There is even a clawfoot tub in the master bathroom overlooking the pond. White rocking chairs line the front porch and remind us of how uncomplicated things used to be in the old days. Montebello is just off of the famous Blue Ridge Parkway near Crabtree Falls and the Appalachian Trail. It is a quaint and quiet farming community that just happens to be in the middle of some of the most beautiful country in the U.S. There are miles of hiking trails, trout streams, rivers and just beautiful scenery. The farm is 20 minutes from Wintergreen Resort and about 30 minutes from the famed Shenandoah Valley. The Montebello Trout Hatchery is just a short walk from the farm and is open to the public.

The SpaceSecond Creek is a working farm – which means there's always something going on! In the spring, the cows are brought up the mountain from the Valley to graze and when cold weather arrives, they return to the low ground. There is always something growing in the greenhouse, hay to be cut and there are occasionally neighbors fishing at the pond. Though we sometimes have to round up a cow that's gotten loose or tend to various farm issues, our goal is to make your stay as private and quiet as possible. Roaring fires, frosty mornings, mugs of steaming hot chocolate, beautiful views and blissful peacefulness. Any time of the year is wonderful at Second Creek. When you cross the farm bridge you'll feel like you are entering into another world. The farmhouse sits tucked back in the hayfields surrounded by the mountains and spring-fed creeks. Inviting and familiar, it recalls the engaging rural style and architecture of an earlier era with saw-marked poplar clapboards, bright with whitewash. We are proud of the restoration work that has brought the house back to its original state and while exceptional care has been taken to preserve the farm's character, adding modern comforts in a respectful way was always an important goal. Living room and stairs to the master bedroom The farmhouse with its exposed chestnut beams, creamy white walls and yellow pine floors is quite simply amazing. An Old Hickory wood stove dominates the open living room and promises warmth on chilly nights. The kitchen is airy and bright, with its vaulted ceilings, skylight and old-fashioned pantry. It opens out onto a very private brick and stone terrace, complete with a gas grill. Upstairs, vaulted ceilings and large bay windows in the master suite give things an open-air feeling with views of the mountains and streams. There is even a claw-foot tub in the master bathroom overlooking the pond. The second bedroom downstairs has its own view of the pond. White rocking chairs line the front porch and remind us of how uncomplicated things used to be in the old days when you would sit on the porch, sip a cup of tea and listen to the bobwhites call from the edge of the woods. Guest AccessWhen you visit Second Creek Farm, we want you to feel at home. You will be getting much more than a rental cabin, you will have access to 108 acres of trails, creeks, fields and a stocked pond. Interaction with GuestsWe want our guests to have the vacation of their dreams. Some people just want solitude, peace and quiet and some want a more social vacation. We want you to leave renewed, refreshed and revived (lots of R's!). Generally we give our guests lots of privacy but we are just a phone call away if you need us! The NeighborhoodMontebello is a special place. It is one of only a few communities on the Blue RIdge Parkway and is home to lots of Fitzgeralds, Campbells and Cashes - lots of Scots-Irish settled here. The farms are beautiful, the land is rich, the people are friendly and independent and we all love the outdoors! There is a General Store up the road, a firehouse and a post office. Crabtree Falls is nearby (the highest waterfall in East of the Mississippi), the Appalachian Trail head is a 5 minute walk from the farm and the famous Montebello Trout Hatchery is just up the (dirt) road. Children are welcome to help feed the fish! Getting AroundYou can drive, cycle, skii or even horseback ride, but there's no public transit! Other Things to NoteIf you love the outdoors you can't do any better than this. The Appalachian Trail is nearby, trout fishing abounds and canoeing and kayaking on the Tye River (especially in the Fall, Winter and Spring) is fun.

Classic Virginia white clapboard farmhouse - on land farmed by the same family since 1864, with views of Spy Rock and Sugar Tree Hollow.

Three Sisters Log Cabin is an elegant, private, 18th century log cabin that happens to be one of only a few surviving two story log cabins along Virginia's scenic and world-renowned Blue Ridge Parkway. The only Virginia property featured in 'The Top 100 Most Beautiful Rustic Vacation Properties in North America,' Three Sisters Log Cabin is truly an unusual find and one that the discriminating guest will find themselves keeping secret - and sharing only with a few close friends. Surrounded by towering rhododendrons, thickets of mountain laurel and a forest carpet of wild ginger, trillium and wintergreen, the cabin is secluded - some would say remote - and perfectly peaceful. The cabin's split rail fence separates the mountain hollow from the wilderness beyond, where just down the winding road you can find Crabtree Falls, Spy Rock, Wintergreen Resort and the mysterious Appalachian Trail. Three Sisters has been meticulously restored. The wood-burning stove is the focal point of the cabin's original log great room. The picture windows of the post and beam kitchen and bath seem to let the outdoors inside. The original log bedroom boasts a queen-size bed, two twins and sleeping loft accessible by ladder. The hot tub is just outside the kitchen door on the fieldstone terrace. Keywords: Log Cabin, Mountain, Blue Ridge Parkway, Hiking, Crabtree Falls
