The SpaceThe bedroom is airy and has ample space and a comfortable double bed. It's the only bedroom on the second floor of our modern, newly built house. Guest AccessThere's a large private bathroom and access to the living room and to our pristine, woods-surrounded backyard and gardens. You could even walk down to the brook that runs through our woods and take a dip. During winter the brook takes on wonderful ice forms as the moving water allows differential freezing! Your bedroom has its own thermostat so you can be as cool or as toasty as you want when you're there. We are 2 minutes by car and 10 minutes walking distance from the Monterey town beach (Lake Garfield) where you can swim, canoe or Kayak, fish, and enjoy the beautiful views. Take a walk or a drive to the General Store which has recently been taken over by a prominent chef and offers delicious breakfast and lunch, and lovely outdoor riverside dining. There's also the Roadside Cafe, the best local breakfast in the Berkshires! We are 15 mins from Great Barrington, a close drive from Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow, The Norman Rockwell Museum, Chesterwood, Stockbridge, Lenox, and all the Berkshire attractions both north and south. Interaction with GuestsWe are here if you need anything. In summer, you will find me puttering around in the garden, which is my favorite activity. In winter, I tend to do my puttering inside, enjoying a fire in the wood stove in the living room which can heat the entire upstairs. You are free to come and go as you please and enjoy your vacation! The NeighborhoodWe are a 14 minute walk or a 2 minute ride away from Lake Garfield with its small sandy "beach" and grassy picnic area and easy parking. There's a ramp for a canoe, kayak or boat. A mile away is the Monterey Library with free WiFi and the General Store where you can get delicious coffee, tea, beverages, soups, sandwiches and any staple you may have forgotten. Great Barrington with all its wonderful restaurants and shops is an easy, scenic 9 miles away on Route 23. Tanglewood is the same distance away from Monterey as it is from Great Barrington and Jacob's Pillow is even closer than from GB. Pittsfield (Barrington Stage, Berkshire Museum and much more) is equidistant--Monterey or Great Barrington. So you can exchange the hustle and bustle of GB (and higher room prices!) for the peace and quiet and economy of our Airbnb room! Other Things to NoteCoffee and/or tea will always be available in the morning. The Monterey General Store has excellent breakfast offerings and is less than a mile away. Another popular Monterey breakfast spot is the Roadside Cafe, operated by Gould Farm. Great Barrington's well-known breakfast eatery is Martin's.

Interaction with GuestsWe live an hour and a half away, but are always reachable for questions or problems, and of course we are always willing to provide recommendations. For maintenance issues we have a local man that we use, so the response time is quite prompt. The NeighborhoodMonterey is a small town but definitely check out the General Store. Not only does it have groceries and supplies, it has wonderful baked goods (be sure to get their pies) and a nice menu for sit-down or take away breakfasts and lunches. Also check out the Roadside Inn and the bakery at Gould Farm. The best part about the location, however, is its easy access to the culture, restaurants, arts and entertainment of the Berkshires. Of course go to Tanglewood (we get lawn tickets and bring along a picnic), Jacobs Pillow, Shakespeare and Co., and the Norman Rockwell Museum. Check out Edith Wharton's The Mount. Have a drink on the porch at the Red Lion Inn in Stockbridge and dinner in the outside patio. Or have drinks and dinner at one of the "Mansions", or in one of the gourmet restaurants in Great Barrington and Lenox. Then when you have sufficiently splurged, take a hike or bike trip. We particularly like the trails on October Mountain. The offerings in the area are endless. You will never be bored. Getting AroundYou will need a car. There is plenty of parking at the house.
