Liberty Maine Cottage is a charming, year round home located on the shores of Lake St. George in Liberty, Maine. The cottage sleeps four people comfortably in 2 separate bedrooms. There is a living room, a large fully equipped kitchen and dining area a mud room and full bath. The waterside wrap around 400 sf deck provides additional space for outdoor relaxation and living. Bed linens and towels are provided. A rowboat, canoe and (3) kayaks are available to use. This lovely cottage is situated on 150 ft. of water frontage and 40 ft. from the water’s edge. Lake St. George is a beautiful spring fed crystal clear 1,017 acre pristine mountain lake 500 feet above sea level and is known for excellent fishing and its large population of loons. The Town of Liberty is 15 miles from the coast and 25 miles from the state capital. Liberty is a central location for visiting nationally known tourist attractions such as Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor, Belfast, Camden, Rockland and Boothbay Harbor. A fish jumps out of the still clear waters while jeweled dragonflies hover, a turtle suns itself on a nearby rock, the calls of the loons echo across the lake. You are relaxed and enjoying a good book as you lay on the chaise lounge which is on the dock just inches above the water…. You move the boat into the shadow of an overhanging tree and cast your line near a protruding rock. Then all of the sudden a 3lb Small-mouth bass inhales your offering and makes a quick turn and darts to get away, the bass leaps out of the water and shakes its head trying to throw the hook loose…. You spent some of the morning in the quaint Maine coastal town shopping, you go to the farmers market, where you were able to pick up locally made/grown bread, cheese organic produce and fresh fish for tonight’s dinner. On the way back to the cottage you stop and pick up some adult beverages at a local winery and ….. You spend a glorious sunny summer afternoon paddling kayaks around out in the big lake. You stop at Blueberry Island for a late afternoon swim in the crystal clear, cool water it’s so refreshing and invigorating. You pick a few handfuls of wild blueberries and you eat some now and place rest in a bag to save for tomorrow’s breakfast….. You are sitting on the deck in the early evening and as the sun sets it creates a brilliant lighting effect against the trees on the opposite shore line, which then reflects upon the water creating an intoxicating display of colors and images….. The evenings concert is just beginning first you hear the spring peepers in the background, and then the birds and insects create the rhythm with an assortment of chirping. Then the main performers start, although you never know who is going to show up or where they will be singing from, sometimes upstream, sometimes downstream, sometimes both. The Green, Wood and Tree frogs provide choruses of a medley of moaning, grunting, and banjo like plucking sounds while the Bull frog’s repetitive low baritone grunts sound like a tuba in the background keeping the beat and with a occasional cry from a loon it is truly nature’s symphony …. You then pick up you drink to head inside to prepare your dinner with the fresh ingredients that you picked up earlier in the day while you hum Louis Armstrong’s ‘What a Wonderful World'……. After dinner and before you retire for the night, you turn off all the house lights and go out to the deck. You stand there and look up at the night’s sky and see more stars then you could ever imagine. You then find the North Star and begin trying to identify the constellations…. These are the sights, sounds and opportunities that welcome you at this peaceful waterfront property. If this sounds enticing, Liberty Maine Cottage is the place for you. Liberty Maine Cottage is located in a rural residential neighborhood along a pristine waterway. Guest shall be sensitive to the premises and the natural environment of its surroundings, so as not to disturb or disrespect other residents, vegetation or the shoreline.

The Loon Camp puts you literally right on Lake St. George. The farmers porch (screened in for 2017) is only 5 feet from the water. One of the most impressive locations on the lake, it is on an unusually (for a lake front) flat lot and benefits from the south facing exposure, providing early sun, stunning sunsets, and the panorama benefiting from sitting on the largest open part of the lake. The living room is a traditional great room (new furniture for 2017) with vaulted ceiling. You will find you can't keep your eyes off the water while dining at the table in front of the 6 foot window set overlooking the lake (6 place table). The original farmers porch is an incredible place to relax and enjoy the view of the lake and islands, with plenty of comfortable chairs. The quiet and seclusion of this location makes for a restful and peaceful vacation. Watching the loons swim past 50 feet from the dock (they normally take a swim by every morning) is simply amazing. You will hear them every night loudly corresponding with each other, a unique experience. The kitchen has everything you'll need for your stay. Electric stove, refrigerator, drinking water dispenser (5 gallon spring water containers provided), coffee maker, electric grill and skillet, etc... and all the utensils you will require for your stay . Paper towels, drinking water, toilet paper, etc... are provided. The main camp has two bedrooms, one with a full size bed, the other with two twins. The detached bunk house has two twin beds, separated into two bed rooms. Linens, face cloths, towels, etc... are NOT available, so you will need to bring your own (septic system will not accommodate a washing machine). Off the kitchen is a large bathroom (renovated for 2017) with a tub/shower. For grilling, lounging, and eating outdoors, the large raised rear deck is outfitted with a picnic table and gas grill, catching sun starting around mid morning. The raised upper front dock is railed and gated (great for lounging with the water around you), and stairs down to a small lower dock with ladder (full size aluminum lower dock for 2017 to accommodate boat docking). The canoe has a wooden ramp area next to the camp for easy launching and docking. In case it gets cool, we have an externally vented Monitor heating system in the great room. Sorry, no internet, but there is a TV and DVD player (and DVD library). TV reception is via an external antenna (no cable or internet). This is the sister camp to the Gambrel on St. George, (located adjacent to VRBO 353694), so both camps can be rented together for multi family vacations.

Camp fires are allowed (and so great at night) in the chiminea located just feet away from the lake. There is an undeveloped lot next door (which is ours anyway) for kids to play and provides privacy on that side. A picturesque small brook flows through the lot, and provides endless hours of exploring for kids. With no camps behind the property, acres of exploring await them. The secluded camp roads and trails around the camp are great for a walk. Haystack mountain (10 minute drive) is a perfect family hike to the blueberry fields. The State Park is located at the other end of the lake, a 10 minute drive to the boat launch with vehicle/trailer parking (no charge for either). Lake St. George is a well known fishing lake providing ample area for sailing and boating. One of the cleanest and clearest lakes in Maine (has a very active lake association), it is home to many loon families that cruise just off shore numerous times during the day. Do not be surprised to see deer and other wildlife around during your stay. Driving to Belfast, Camden, and other ocean front fishing towns provides a glimpse into Maine shore life and offers sailing and site seeing tours. Go to Lincolnville to the lobster shack and watch the island ferry while eating onshore. The Maine State Capitol of Augusta is nearby with shopping and historical sites. Freeport (home of LL Bean and the outlet shopping mecca) is an hour away. 1.5 miles away in Liberty, is Liberty Lobster (owned by a local lobsterman, sells out of his garage at great discount prices), and 3 miles away is John's Ice Cream and next door, a Maine home cooking diner. Head toward Washington on 220 (right out of the camp road) is a new local brew pub (2 miles) and farm market/restaurant (5 miles) that has awesome breakfast, lunches, preserves, and produce. Spring and early season you almost have the lake to yourself. Fall provides great folliage viewing from this central location, and the lake is incredibly quiet.
