Enjoy life in the Maine woods. Sit on the dock or deck and watch osprey and bald eagles fly overhead and loons and great blue heron catch fish. Enjoy a refreshing swim out to the float and lie in the sun. Canoe down the lake to numerous private coves and picnic spots. (There are five cottages south of us then the rest of the shoreline is under resource protection and has no cottages.) End your day snug in bed, listening to the tremolo call of the loons. Long Pond is a ten mile long lake in Central Maine. It is located in the towns of Mount Vernon, Belgrade and Rome. The cottage is on the southern, quieter, half of the lake. The village of Belgrade Lakes is on the northern half of the lake and is accessible by water if you wish. The two halves of the lake are connected by a narrow passage under a bridge at Castle Island. Fishermen can catch large and small mouth bass, northern pike, perch, pickerel and brown trout in its waters. Fishing boats can be rented at Castle Island Camps a few miles across the lake. Larger boats for water skiing are also available from other locals. There is a state boat landing at Castle Island if you bring your own boat. The cottage was rebuilt in 1990 with knotty pine paneling throughout. It has a large living-dining-kitchen area with cathedral ceiling overlooking the lake. There are two bedrooms on the main floor and a loft upstairs. The small bedroom has two twin beds. The master bedroom, also with a cathedral ceiling, has a king size bed (two twins put together so can be separated if necessary). The master bedroom also has a triple sliding glass door opening onto the private side deck overlooking the lake. The loft has two twin beds and a day bed. The cottage has two bathrooms, one with a shower and the second with a washer and dryer. There is electric heat in both bedrooms as well as a woodstove in the living area to keep you comfortable on cool summer mornings. You are welcome to use the gas grill on the deck but no other outdoor fires are allowed. The side deck wraps around a large rock and is private because we own the two adjacent lots on that side. The property includes 300 feet of lakefront part of which is a small sandy beach that is perfect for young children to swim or for launching your canoe or kayak. There is a dock with tie ups for two boats as well as a float to swim to. The town of Mount Vernon is a ten minute drive. There you can find a gas station, very well stocked country store and the Post Office Cafe for delicious breakfasts and lunches overlooking Minnehonk Lake. There are also several gift and antique shops. Augusta with several shopping malls and supermarkets is about 30 minutes away. There are hiking trails just out the back door of the cottage plus many more within a short drive. Long Pond Cottage is available for weekly rental, Saturday to Saturday, Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day Weekend. Rent is $1500 per week plus a $500 security deposit plus references if this is your first time renting from us. We supply all sheets and towels. Discounts are available for multiweek or off-season rentals. Sorry, but we cannot allow pets or smokers- NO EXCEPTIONS. The cottage is located on the southern half of Long Pond. It is over a mile down a very good dirt road. If you canoe or kayak south of us you pass 5 other cottages and then have undeveloped shoreline to explore. This area of Maine is special as it has many lakes and is a little over an hour from the picturesque coastal communities such as Camden, Boothbay and Pemaquid. It is the same distance from the western mountains such as Tumbledown which is a wonderful hike with a cool pond for a swim at the top.

The SpaceThe Log Home has a wonderful feel, with its wide plank pumpkin pine floors, cathedral ceiling, and large windows that let in the light. It is about 1750 square feet of space on three floors. The top floor is a loft with a master bedroom, half bath, and a sitting area. The love seat in the sitting area opens into a single bed. The middle floor is the living room, kitchen, dining area (open concept), a bedroom with a double bed and window air conditioner, and a full bath. The ground level floor is a family/ TV room that can serve as a third bedroom. The futon opens into a double bed. There is also a Life Fitness Treadmill with Flex Deck to go easy on your knees, spa quality. There is a large wrap-around deck with deck furniture and a gas barbecue grill. An extra tank of propane is standing by just to make sure your dinner plans are not foiled! Guest AccessEntire house and yard, plus access to David Pond at the shared lot down the road. At the shared lot, there is a long dock, a float that you can swim to a picnic table, Adirondack chairs, and kayak/canoe rack. Interaction with GuestsI will be available by phone, text, or email, and will come in person if you need help. Also, the next house as you continue down the road is the home of my closest friend, and she is also willing to help. The NeighborhoodLake View Estates is a neighborhood association on David Pond. The road is two miles long and there are only about 9 homes that are occupied year round. Several other homes have been built but are only visited during vacation or the occasional weekend. All of the lots are large, usually 4-6 acres, and many are not built on yet, so there is a great deal of privacy. On the other hand, the neighbors are friendly and helpful should you need them! There are no street lights, as it is in much of Maine, so there is no light interference with viewing the extraordinary sky at night. There are frequent sightings of wildlife in the neighborhood. Also, Lake View Estates has a common lot on David Pond which you may use for swimming, sunning, fishing, or launching your kayak or canoe. It is about an 8 minute walk from the Log Home. We also have deeded access to a 57 acre conservation area where there is great hiking or snow shoeing right out of your door. Getting AroundThere is a large area for parking at the top of the driveway of the Log Home. Some motor homes or boat trailers could even be maneuvered around there. There is no public transportation nearby, so you will have to have your own transportation to visit the Log Home. The Amtrak train, the DownEaster, now goes as far as Brunswick, Maine, which is about 45 minutes from the Log Home. There is a small airport in Augusta, which is about 25 minutes from the Log Home, a very nice airport in Portland, and large airports in Boston and Manchester, New Hampshire that are about three hours away. There is also a great bus from Boston Logan International Airport to Portland, Augusta, and beyond. It is called Concord Coach Lines. Other Things to NoteIn the winter, the driving conditions and the road can be challenging. If you visit in winter, please bring the most aggressive vehicle you can.

The SpaceThis is a classic A-frame cabin, with a master bedroom with queen bed, full bathroom/shower with a washer/dryer, kitchen, small dining area, living room, and screened-in porch overlooking the private 100' of lake frontage. We have a 30' dock, and the lake is great for swimming, kayaking, fishing. It is 90' deep in the middle, and gets surprisingly warm off the dock. Surface temperatures reached high 80's in the summer of 2016! Upstairs there is a loft that you reach by ladder which has a full bed and 2 singles. Guest AccessGuests will have the entire camp to themselves. We also provide a canoe and small (blue) kayak for renter use (at their own risk) along with life preservers and paddles. The NeighborhoodWe are located on a peninsula in the middle of the lake, facing South. The lake is very clean, and is just big enough for outdoor activities but not too big to attract too many water skiers or motor boats. It's got a good reputation for fishing (bass and trout). There is a small zoo nearby (DEW zoo) which had a reality TV show on Animal Planet. There is a gas station and general store about 2 minutes away (1/2 hour walking) and a small grocery store about 2 miles down the road in Mt. Vernon. There is a small cafe that has free wifi, great coffee and lunches. They also have music in the evenings in the summer. 1/2 hour drive is Farmington with a WalMart and Hannafords, and 1/2 hour southeast is Augusta with Home Depot and anything else you'd need. There is also a nice State Museum in Augusta and a Revolutionary fort. The coast is about 90 minutes due east, and we like to visit the town of Belfast, which is a little less touristy then Boothbay or Bar Harbor. Getting AroundWe have room for at least 3 cars in front of the camp. We don't recommend bringing in campers as the road is narrow and a dead-end. Other Things to NoteThis is a lakeside cabin and uses the water from the lake for the house. It is tested and considered potable (and we run it through a sediment filter) but we don't recommend you drink it. There is a free certified fresh water spring to fill up water bottles in the town of Vienna, 5 minutes away. We don't allow smoking in the cabin. Pets are fine as long as you clean up afterwards. You are required to remove all your trash when you leave, and clean the cabin. We provide basic foods for emergencies, and expect guests to replace what they use. The kitchen is fully equipped. You are expected to provide your own linens and towels. There is NO wifi or cable at this time, and cell service is weak and sporadic. We have an old TV with a rooftop antenna, which gets a few local stations, and plenty of old DVD's and VCR movies. There is free wifi at several locations in the local town. Motor boats are allowed on the lake.

This beautiful, fully furnished, estate mansion affords multiple choices of renting out parts or all of the building to either vacation rent it or month-to-month leasing. Please call Sue, at 207-441-3214 for further details, to discuss how you can make this facility a romantic get-a-away by renting just part or all of the private living quarters. Different pricing is available. Special events must be discussed and pre-approved on the phone with possible extra fees due to event type and size. Large oversized parties are not allowed. The Estate has been elegantly restored by the current owner using furnishings and decor similar to those of the Arden era of the 30's and 40's and retains many of its original marble fireplaces and porcelain bathroom fixtures throughout. Resting on five acres at the north shore of Long Pond, the LaPosa Estate was originally built as Elizabeth Arden's health and beauty spa where the rich and famous frequented Maine. Laposa is so applicably named because it means peace. The estate has a total of five (5) kitchens, seven (7) bathrooms, eight (8) bedrooms, three (3) pull out sofas and/or futons, and two (2) very comfortable cots making total sleeping arrangements 22-24. To the right of the facility (we call them separate "cabins"), affords three separate living quarters that is all attached to the building with its own kitchen, full bathroom, living room, dining area, and one spacious private bedroom. Each private living quarter sleeps six (6) and has its own private entrance that is ground level. Each unit also has a sleeper sofa or futon to sleep an additional six (6) persons. Total of 12 can sleep in these quarters with two very comfortable cots available for two extra sleeping arrangements (14 total). The two cots can be utilized where needed and necessary for your party. The main house, on the ground level, offers a parlor/living room that is private, dining room, galley kitchen with dishwasher, full kitchen, off the kitchen is another living room, and a full bathroom with a full bedroom off the bathroom that is nestled privately in the corner of the left side of the main part of the house (all ground level). Total sleeping arrangements are two (2) for the main, ground level. The backs of most of these rooms have french doors that open to the outside back patios and massive lawn space with outdoor seating areas. When entering the main house and when going up the stairs to the right is another area offering full private living quarters that has a kitchenette, living room, dining room, full bathroom and two (2) bedrooms. Off one of these bedrooms, the outside balcony can be accessed so that walking through one bedroom to get to the other bedroom can be avoided allowing for both bedrooms to be private. To the left of this "right side" which is still located upstairs, are two (2) bedrooms and two (2) full bathrooms that are very spacious and large. Both bathrooms are private to both of these bedrooms. One bedroom walks through the other bedroom on this left side. Please take special note. With the right and left side combined upstairs in the main house, there is a total of one (1) kitchenette, four (4) bedrooms, three (3) full bathrooms, one (1) living room, and one (1) dining room making total sleeping arrangements in beds to accommodate eight (8). Loaded with TV's equipped with cable and internet throughout the facility. Carefully manicured grounds include a private dock to the left for kayaks, canoe and boat launching. And to the right of the mansion is access to a semi-private shallow, sandy beach that is very conducive for young ones. A beautiful back lawn exists with umbrella tables, lawn furniture, barbecue grills, horseshoes, boce ball, croquet, and a big bonfire pit. One canoe, one tandem (seats two) kayak, and three additional single person kayaks. Adult life jackets available and some child life jackets. Laposa is nestled between two quaint villages, Belgrade Lakes and Mount Vernon, with antique shops, Days Country Store, curio shops, and restaurants. It is centrally located 20 minutes to Waterville, Augusta and Farmington; 90 minutes to Portland, Bangor, The Appalachian Trail, and 70 minutes to the Atlantic Ocean. Long Pond which is divided into two district basins by a narrows, with over 2,500 acres of open water, affords extraordinary recreational opportunities to guests with principle fisheries for landlocked salmon, brook trout, rainbow smelt, small and large mouth bass (per the Maine Fisheries & Game website). Surrounding waters of the Belgrade Lakes offer a lifetime of enjoyment and natural beauty. Belgrade Lakes Golf Club, which has been rated the #1 course in Maine and one of the top 100 public golf courses in the U.S. is a 7-minute drive from the Estate and offers 18 holes of play in scenic mountaintop beauty with a full service club and pro shop. In addition to the enjoyment of Maine's beautiful outdoors and hunting opportunities available from local Registered Maine Master Guides the Estate is within an hour and a half of all three of Maine's greatest ski mountains at Sugarloaf, Saddleback, Sunday River as well as the local favorite, Black Mountain of Maine.

Extensive shopping is available at two Augusta exits from I-95, exits 109 and 112 (25 minutes away) as well as a vast array of restaurants and an award-winning health club and spa. Freeport, home of L.L. Bean and a host of other outlet stores, is 45 minutes south. A trip to the coast, or to Portland, or to Sugarloaf Ski Area takes less than 90 minutes. Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, and Baxter State Park are a bit farther but worth the ride. You will emerge from this vacation rested and refreshed, having seen stars brighter than you can remember. You will leave the state understanding the highway sign slogan at the border that reads, 'Maine, worth a visit, worth a lifetime.' Beautifully renovated classic Maine camp with tongue and groove solid pine panel walls, pine beadboard ceiling, wide pumpkin pine floors, extensive outdoor deck area, large screen porch, super nice cedar boardwalk from cottage to shore, cozy lakeside cedar sun deck area adjacent to floating dock system. Great swimming and fishing right off dock. Bedroom one has a hand made cedar log and twig double bed and is located in the main camp. Bedroom two provides privacy and is located in a seperate bunk house away from the main camp with its own wrap around deck and hammock. Inside is a snug room with built in full size futon bed. Use of canoe and 3 kayaks. There is also a 24 foot pontoon boat with a swim ladder just offshore that provides additional space to relax, or rental can be arranged. Miles of pine studded shoreline to seek out trophy bass, salmon, and trout, or just paddle along quietly watching overhead for a glimpse of our resident bald eagles and ospreys. Dozens of loons summer here and are not only spectacular to watch but also provide incredible symphonies of sound in the evenings. We are lucky to have a new baby loon chick this year visible from the dock. Excellent wild high bush blueberries in season (late July/early August) along shoreline. Kennebec Highlands hiking trails only 15 minutes away. Parker Pond Headland trail can be reached by car or boat, and makes a nice canoe/hike/canoe trip. Small library of outdoor books and traditional board games. There is not a 'modern' bathroom. Instead you have a newly built, charming and exquisitely clean out house. There is also a separately located outdoor shower with hot water. Both the privy and shower have views to the lake. The kitchen has a traditional lake water system at the sink tap and a water cooler filled with local spring water for drinking. All of this has been purposefully designed and built to have the minimal environmental impact upon the land and water as possible. The master bedroom, also with a cathedral ceiling, has a king size bed (two twins bolted together so can be separated if you wish). The Kennebec Highlands is a network of trails and protected land nearby. Mount Vernon is nicely situated in an area of hills and lakes. We are a little over an hour from picturesque coastal communities such as Camden, Boothbay, Pemaquid Point and Portland. We are also a little over an hour from the western mountains such as Tumbledown which is a spectacular moderate climb with a lake on top for a cool dip. While not close by, visitors to Maine often want to visit Acadia National Park and Mount Katahdin, Maine's highest mountain and most incredible climb. Acadia is about 3 hours east. Katahdin is about 4 hours north. Keywords: Long Pond, Mount Vernon, Maine,

A wonderful secluded cottage surrounded by trees yet very close to Long Pond, the finest of the Belgrade Lakes, known for its pristine water for swimming, boating and fishing. The third largest of the Belgrade Lakes it is 12 miles long and covers 2,557 acres, We are retired academics (Colby College/U of Michigan & Bowdoin college) and picked this beautiful spot because it is quiet (away from too noisy vacationers) for reading, writing, and relaxing as well as the usual lake activities. Most of the year we live in busy London, England. The bargain rental rate is because the cottage is not ON the lake, just a 3 minute walk away. Our place is part of a large private association (Wildwood) that has a sandy community swimming beach with a floating dock and swings for the children. A boat dock is a 3 minute walk and the swimming beach.is a 8 minute walk from the cottage along a well maintained dirt road. One advantage of being near, but not on the lake, and surrounded by beautiful forest is that we are constantly visited by friendly wildlife: birds, chipmunks, the occasional deer, a wandering flock of wild turkeys, etc. And of course we can hear the wonderful sound of the loons in the evenings. Although rustic looking, this modern well insulated cottage is only 25 years old and can sleep up to 7-8. There are two upstairs bedrooms, one with a new king size posturepedic mattress bed, the other with 2 new regular size beds. A new fold out couch/futon is in the living room, and a futon with mattress is in the front enclosed porch room used in the summer months. We are 1 hour drive from the Portland, Maine Jetport, 3 hours from Boston, 5 hours from New York, and 5 hours from Quebec, Canada. All the amenities and local towns & activities are listed below. **FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN AN OFF-SEASON OR WINTER RENTAL: In late September-October is the famous fall foliage season. with its magnificent colors. The locals call it 'leaf Peeking: In the WINTER there is great cross country skiing right in the area with down hill skiing 27 miles away. One of the best down-hill skiing areas in the USA is at Sugarloaf , 49 miles north which has 138 trails, the longest being 3.5 miles from summit to base. There are 15 lifts. Then there is skating & ice fishing on Long Pond, a 3 minute walk from the cottage where you can catch Northern pike, wide-mouth bass, salmon, & trout. It is a very special area with a modern winterized cottage heated by excellent baseboard heat and/or a superb wood stove. Please click on the 'availability calendar' for open dates. If you wish to bring a pet please email the details (age, size, disposition, trained, etc). The yard is not fenced & visited by deer, turkeys, etc. Here is a comment from a 2 season renter: 'I have rented the Rose cottage for the past two summers and it has been delightful. It's peaceful and quiet; the only sounds you hear are tweets from the birds. The kitchen is very well equipped, from lobster pot to rolling pin. Cottage is very well furnished, with comfortable beds and internet connection. And there is a great variety of things to do in the area. Sally from Florida'
