Between the Trails is a large vintage 2 story, 1900 square foot vacation rental home that sleeps 8-10 people. With 4 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 2 dens, spacious kitchen, and backyard deck, there is plenty of room for everyone. Original hardwood floors and vintage decor help make the house inviting and comfortable.
Numerous board games to play and a vintage chalkboard that takes up most of a wall upstairs. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the large town pool with diving board and 'kiddie' area, is open and a short stroll from the house. Lots of amenities, such as--sheets, towels, charcoal grill, Wifi, A/C, fire pit, washer/dryer, TV/DVD, etc.
The house is conveniently located in downtown Damascus VA, between the 34 mile Virginia Creeper Bike Trail & the Appalachian Trail. Both trails are 500 feet from the house! You are also within easy walking distance of all the restaurants, bike rentals and stores in town.
Park your car & forget about it during your stay. Grab your fishing pole & head to the river that winds through Damascus. Walk or ride your bike along the tree-lined streets. Reconnect with family and friends. Or simply relax on the large deck of the house. Your visit will evoke rest, relaxation and leave you wanting to return to both Damascus & Between the Trails again!
Most visitors to Damascus and Between the Trails come to ride bikes on the 34 mile VA Creeper Trail by catching a shuttle to Whitetop Mountain and then riding along the river back into town. Even though the trip is roughly 17 miles, it is mostly downhill and there are places to stop along the way to picnic, rest, grab an ice cream cone or use the restroom. It takes 3 to 5 hours, depending on how many stops one makes. The house is located between trestles 17 and 18 along the bike trail.
Since the Appalachian Trail runs through town, there are day or even overnight hikes at various levels you could take.
There are many opportunities to fish and even a fly fishing store in Abingdon that gives guided tours or friendly advice. You can get a local fishing license at the Food City in Damascus.
There is a large playground at the town park. During the summer months (June--August), the town pool is open. A brand new visitor's center and library recently opened and there are computers available to use, if need be. The house does have WiFi if you bring your own computer. Wander down to the Old Mill for a bite to eat and to feed the ducks. In the spring you will even see many ducklings. Live music is usually heard on the weekends in various local places in town.
In nearby Abingdon VA (about 20 minutes north of Damascus), there are many antique shops to visit and a wonderful, historic theater, the Barter Theater. The Abingdon winery is close by as well.
Saltville VA also has a rails to trails, aptly named the Salt Trail, that is 9 miles one way. There is an Appalachian museum and a town wave pool.
In Meadowview VA, there is a delicious restaurant, the Harvest Table, that serves fresh, homemade food. They support local farmers and utilize the 'farm to table' concept. Definitely make the time to eat there!
