The NeighborhoodParramatta is the historic heart of Sydney's west, a dynamic city with beautiful parks and colonial sites such as the World Heritage-listed Old Government House and Parramatta Park. You’ll be delighted with the world-class food, arts and entertainment. As the second largest CBD in Sydney, take time out from exploring the city's fascinating past to enjoy shopping for your favourite brands.
A scenic route to Parramatta is by Rivercat from Circular Quay, near the Sydney Opera House. You’ll glide under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and down the estuary of the Parramatta River. From there you can walk or cycle along the Parramatta River foreshore to Parramatta Park, or have a swim, picnic or bushwalk at Lake Parramatta Reserve.
Parramatta’s ‘eat streets’ offer an impressive choice of international restaurants from Greek, Italian and Lebanese to Cuban or Japanese. World-class chef Jamie Oliver brings rustic Italian fare to the table with Jamie’s Italian Trattoria, while foodie faves such as the Bourke Street Bakery and The Emporium have also made Parramatta their new home. The city’s multicultural mix is also celebrated with Parramasala – an annual gala of parades, parties, exotic bazaars and food stalls.
Sports fans can watch a game at Parramatta Stadium, one of Australia’s most iconic venues and home to the Parramatta Eels, Western Sydney Wanderers and Greater Western Sydney Rams. Have a flutter at Rosehill Gardens racecourse, home to the prestigious Golden Slipper and autumn racing carnival, or catch V8 and speedway action at Sydney Valvoline Raceway.
Meanwhile the city’s fascinating past is never far away. Parramatta is home to some major historic sites, including the Old Government House, built in 1799, Experiment Farm Cottage, the site of the first land grant, and the rustic Hambledon Cottage on the Elizabeth Farm Estate, home to Australia's first pastoralists, John and Elizabeth Macarthur. The parks and gardens at Parramatta Park, originally convict farming grounds, are now the perfect place to picnic. Getting AroundSecure underground parking for 1 vehicle.
