The SpaceAfter the departure of our four children, our house has become too big for me and my husband. We renovated the basement from the ground up - for ourselves in higher age. Until then we rent it to guests for short or longer times. We enjoy their companionship and their interests in Berlin and Potsdam.
It is quiet in our road, in our house and in the separate basement (71m2) with its wide terrace (26m2, table, chairs and parasol). Our guests live there completely for themselves. Of course, they have their own keys.
The livingroom (22m2) is furnished with a sofabed (120 cm x 200cm), wardrobe and coat stand, easy tables and chairs, a desk with chairs, TV, W-Lan etc. In the second room (22m2) there invites a comfortable double bed (180 cm x 200 cm), a dressing niche with wardrobe and coat-stand, table and chairs. It’s a pleasure to cook and to eat in the kitchen (14 m2) with integrated appliances of low energy consumption: gas cookingtop, extractorhood, oven, microwave oven, fridge freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. On the flat and heated ground of the bathroom (4 m2) you find a gentle rainshower, a washbasin, WC and boards.
All everyday necessities are provided: bedding and, towels, toileteries, hairdryer, universal electric socket, hygienic and cleanic supplies, basic food, beverages etc.
Families are welcome, parents may request child-free times. People with mobility problems may appreciate that the rooms of our basement are connected without doorsteps.
In the neighbourhood there is the river „Griebnitzsee“ with historical Villas (Truman-Villa), faculties of the university of Potsdam, SAP-Campus (soft-waresystem-technology), Leibniz Institute of Astrophysics, film-city of Babelsberg (studios, park and film-university).
It’s not so far to Park and Castle of Babelsberg with it’s wonderful view of the historical Glienicke Bridge and the lakelands of Potsdam. Enjoy the ferries and cruises, for example to go from Griebnitzsee-Station to Wannsee. In Griebnitzsee-Station „Pedales“ lends bikes and pedalos, canoes and kayaks.
You find grocery shops near-by: a discounter, a good bakery, an upscale Edeka. You can eat out in an italian restaurant or in the students’ neigbourhood pub in the Griebnitzsee-Station.
We are happy to give tips on excursions in Potsdam and Berlin. Our guests find usual info-materials in the basement, some literature as well, still more in our
private library. Guest AccessThe souterrain includes a separate basement (71 m2) and a wide terrace (26 m2) on the sunny side of house Rotbuche. Our guests go down a broad and flat staircase and can enter the apartement through two outside doors of security-glass and with security locks. Every guest gets his own key.
On street parking is free.
By appointment a guest can park his car in our driveway. Interaction with GuestsIt’s my job, to receive our guests, to hand out the keys, to give advices and practical help.
If I can’t be at home, my husband replaces me.
You stay completely private in the apartment.
You make ask for our help:
Do you want to tour with my husband via Griebnitzsee to the Bridge of Glienicke and to other historical places near by?
Do you travel on public transport and needs support to come to our House Rotbuche (heavy luggage, mobility problems, parents with young children, older guests – or for other reasons).
Parents may ask me for babysitting.
Older children find additional beds upstairs in the attic. The NeighborhoodIn the local area there are mostly older single-family houses, old trees line the streets, there is no through traffic in the Otto-Erich-Straße: it’s peaceful and quiet.
The basement is adjacent to a neighboring house with two small families.
