The SpaceI am happy to welcome you at my place, a cosy and comfortable apartment situated at the 1st floor of a Thirties building in the charming and central neighbourhood of San Saba, near the Baths of Caracalla. You'll stay in a nice room with a small double bed, an independent and furnished balcony and Wi-Fi. The bathroom is shared with me. My kitchen, my guitars and piano, and my books are for guests' use. From home you can easily walk to Circo Massimo and to the Colosseum. Furthermore, you just need a five minutes walk to reach Piramide Metro Station and the bus station of several lines heading to the historic city centre ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and 280) and in ten minutes youl'll reach Ostiense Railway Station (trains to and from FCO airport). A few steps out of the flat and you can admire the beautiful Basilica of San Saba. If you feel like shopping in the picturesque open market of the neighbourhood, walk to the tree-lined square nearby where you can also find a newsagent’s, a theatre and some nice bars. There is a supermarket (a discount) just round the corner. In San Saba and in the nearby district of Testaccio (10 minutes walking) you will be able to choose from a wide range of typical Roman restaurants and also find banks, ATMs and a post office (designed by the Functionalist architect Adalerto Libera, 1932), surrounded by the Parco della Resistenza. From San Saba you could also walk to the popular and picturesque district of Trastevere (20 min.). San Saba offers you plenty of pleasures… …for your eyes (and soul): o Piramide Cestia o Protestant Cemetery in Testaccio where Antonio Gramsci and the famous British Poets Keats and Shelley rest in peace o San Saba Basilica (IX Century) o Centrale Montemartini: a Roman art museum built within a disused power station, an outstanding example of postmodern architecture. …for your ears: Casa del Jazz Concert Hall (15 min. walk) At my place you'll find a familiar and quiet atmosphere and, due to the crucial position of the Casa, the opportunity to walk everywhere. In addition to Italian… English spoken On parle français Parlem català Man spricht Deutsch (nur ein wenig!) 日本語が 少しできます Domluvím se česky. But who was Faustina? It is not actually clear which of the two Faustinas gave name to the street where my house is situated: Annia Faustina maior was the beloved wife of Emperor Antonino Pio. After her death, the Emperor commemorated his loyal companion through the foundation of institutes for young women, further known as puellae Faustinianae, and dedicated to his wife a temple in the Forum, a Christian place of worship in the VIII Century, later turned into the church of San Lorenzo in Miranda (beginning of the XVII Century). Out of curiosity: The columns that supported the temple were so obstinately sturdy that they resisted any attempt to be demolished: you can still detect the signs of the ropes that were bound around the columns to knock down the arcade. Annia Faustina minor, the daughter of the above-mentioned imperial pair, she had a stormy youth (as narrated by historical sources) until she became the devoted spouse of Marco Aurelio. Fondly in love with her husband, she escorted him throughout every military campaign and eventually lost her life during a battle in Cappadocia (176 A.D). Out of curiosity: She was widely known for her gift to transform any military tent in a comfortable and warm hearth.

The SpaceThe district We find ourselves at the intersection of various quarters of Rome. From this area you can get in touch with the manifold sceneries that render this city so fascinating. On one side, there is the elegant residential area of San Saba with its villas from the beginning of the 20th century, antique churches and gardens hidden behind tall gates. On the other side, there is the folkloric Testaccio quarter, noted for its many Trattorias and night life. In front of the apartment you can see the Aurelian Walls, and within a short, pleasant walk you can reach the Baths of Caracalla, the Circus Maximus and, if you feel up to it, even the Forum Romanum and Collosseum. The Ostiense area is at the back of the apartment; here you can stock up on typical Italian foods in the stores and restaurants of the modern Eataly building.
