The NeighborhoodThe house is located in a quiet neighborhood, but there are many shops and restaurants in walking distance. There is a convenience store on Nishikoji Dori(西小路通), two minutes walk from the house, and laundromat on Nishioji Dori(西大路通), 2 minutes walk from the house as well. Please take a look at the guidebook on Airbnb for what are around the neighborhood and their locations. Getting AroundI send all my guests a PDF with a detailed direction (with photos) to the house from nearby train stations and from Kansai International Airport, so you can easily find a house.
The house is 10 minutes walk from Saiin Station. It is a great access to go to the main shopping area of Kyoto such as Nishiki Market and Gion, and it is the best & cheapest way to go to Osaka as well.
There is also a Nishioji Sanjo station (keifuku dentetsu-arashiyama line) within 7 minutes walk from the house, and it is the best way to go to Arashiyama, Kyoto.
There is also a coin-operated parking space right by the house.
Near by Hankyu Saiin Staion, you can also rent a bicycle for 300 yen. That's the cheapest price you can find in Kyoto! When it's sunny outside, it's nice to ride a bicycle around Kyoto. The location of the bicycle rental is listed in the guidebook. You need to show your passport to borrow a bicycle for the first time.
Please note that there are some parts of Kyoto where you cannot ride bicycles, so the best way to go to major tourist destinations is the bus. The one-day bus pass is available for 500 yen, and you can buy it from the bus driver. Some buses do not have the pass on board, so you might want to buy it in advance from subway information office, tourist information center, or JR Kyoto station. You don't have to use it on the same day you purchase the pass.
I also send all my guests the direction to the major sightseeing spots in Kyoto! For more information, please feel free to contact me. Other Things to NoteIf you are traveling only around Kansai Area (Kyoto, Osaka, Nara, Kobe, Wakayama), then JR (Japan Railway) pass isn't very useful or worthwhile. JR pass can only be used in JR lines and JR buses, but in Kansai Area, especially Kyoto, it is more convenient to use subways and many buses. Kansai Thru pass might be a better option since you can use it for most public transportation except JR lines. Also, Kyoto city bus has One-Day Pass available for 500 yen. You can ride buses as many times as you want for all day. The regular bus fare is 230 yen, so if you ride more than twice, it is worth it. You can buy the One-Day Pass inside the bus or subway offices, or tourist information centers. You can buy it in advance and use it next day as well.
