There is both a glamorous white dining table for more formal meals as well as the kitchen table and when the sun shines there is also a lovely outside decked entertaining area with a large table, bench and bbq, to make the most of the British summer. The kitchen has rustic tiled floors and is fully equipped with everything required for dining in during a stay. There is also an eat-in table in the kitchen and access through to the utility area. On the first floor towards the back of the property, is the first of the bedrooms with a double bed, full length mirror and window with a view to the garden below. There is a family bathroom next door with white tiles and mirrored cabinets on the walls and a bath, basin and WC. Along the landing and up a couple of steps are two further bedrooms. Take me to the river Less than two centuries ago, this stretch of the Thames between Wandsworth Bridge and Battersea Bridge was a riot of steamboats, sailboats and barges serving the riverside industries. Now, only the occasional motorboat agitates the serene patina, and exclusive waterfront apartments have replaced the factories. Amidst all this, you’ll discover Groveside Court, an elegant, light drenched two bedroom home with inspiring views directly over the river. With Battersea’s superb bars and gastro pubs, and a mere 30 minute journey over or under ground into central London, how could you resist? River queen As a successful psychologist, your host understands the therapeutic qualities of water and animals. She downsized to this riverside apartment from a larger house five years ago, and the funky canine paintings, and plethora of dog books that personalise her charming home testify to this passion for pooches. Time out is spent walking her rescue Staffies along the river to Battersea Park, wine tasting at the celebrated Bluebird in nearby Chelsea, or a weekend away in one of her Suffolk cottages. Water cure Doubtless it’s the rhythmic undulation, the vast reflection of sky, or even the chemical structure, but Groveside Court has an undeniably soothing quality. A liquid calm fills the spacious sitting - dining area where light from glass doors streams in over orchids and silver candlesticks. Wooden floors, and dark wood furniture create a cosy boat like feel, while framed artwork is distinct against a backdrop of bright white walls and stylish lighting. Drift away on one of two plump leather sofas enclosing a colourful Persian rug. Then, as evening approaches, slot your iPod in to the dock, take a glass of red from the large kitchen out onto the patio, and enjoy the spectacle of the sun sliding casually into the Thames. When night draws in there are two elegant bedrooms, with travel chests and sailing paintings, to choose from. Each has a double bed, a plethora of canine themed books and pictures, and a gleaming ensuite, replete with white fluffy towels and our requisite White Company toiletries. Land lubbing There’s no shortage of land-loving pleasures in Battersea. From chain shops to department stores to specialist food shops and florists, this is a vibrant and increasingly affluent part of the city. The nearby Battersea Arts Centre is a great place for eclectic music and theatre, and if you fancy a taste of international cuisine beforehand, the excellent Thai on the River should be your first port of call. Take a pleasant amble along the waterfront to the green open spaces of Battersea Park, and if the urge to cast your net a little wider strikes you, you’ll find Central London is around half an hour away by bus or train. Additional amenities include: video game console, iron & ironing board, toiletries, coffee machine, cafetiere, music player, hairdryer, onefinestay iphone. Cancellation Policy No-quibble cool-off period. Provided you book more than seven days before the start of your stay, you can cancel your booking no questions asked within 24 hours of making it, and we will refund 100% of any charges. Early cancellation. If you cancel at least 2 weeks before you are due to arrive, we will charge you 50% of the cost of your stay. Late cancellation. We’ll be as flexible as we can if you need to cancel. However, once you’re within two weeks of the start of your stay, we can’t refund your booking. Beautiful game Opposite Stamford Bridge, proud home to Chelsea FC, is a happy home that’ll have you cheering. Colourful and carefully curated, here you’ve much to marvel, from its primary pigments to its bold prints and exquisite antiques. And while the stadium’s close, this part of town has far more to offer than just football. So head down to Chelsea Harbour to toast your good fortune, or stroll along to the King’s Road, just two minutes from your door. Champions league Your hostess works for Lotte Berk, while your host is in advertising. This apartment is their London pied-a-terre, and they spend much of their time in Hampshire with their two young children, a dog, chickens and a pair of lugubrious tortoises. Fixtures list Though decidedly contemporary, you’ll spot a few original features – sash windows, the balcony’s wrought iron and the sitting room’s fireplace – in among the Scandi styling and blocks of colour. The red and white kitchen is dominated by a striking beer advert, your host’s first ever commission, the white subway tiles are grouted in scarlet, and the table is set with four Eames chairs. The sitting room is all mustard, grey and blue, and the cloakroom’s extraordinary wallpaper is remarkable in monochrome. And by contrast, the master bedroom is placid in mint, with a comfortable double bed and a chic chaise longue. Additional amenities include: iron & ironing board, hob, toiletries, cafetiere, music player, roof terrace/garden, hairdryer, onefinestay iphone. Cancellation Policy No-quibble cool-off period. Good graces If you’re looking for beauty, take Uverdale Road as your model. Surrounded by pretty iron railings and Victorian architecture, this home sits at the heart of a neighbourhood soon to be designated as a conservation area. And inside is just as delicate. Muted greys and dreamy blues are brightened by the kitchen’s skylights, while unusual glass jellyfish and sculpted bronzes are all polish and poise. There’s much to take pleasure in outside too, on the floral terrace or around the corner on the King’s Road. Indeed, with its cafés and galleries, bars and eateries, you’re sure to find something to amuse. Venus de Milo Your hostess transformed this home from lacklustre to luxurious in a matter of weeks, imparting an impeccable sense of style inside and out. As an artist, she attends Heatherley’s School of Fine Art nearby, and her striking sculptures can be found in the living area. ##Pretty as a picture Each room is thoughtfully designed, but the sitting room’s clean lines, fair palette and soft upholstery might make it the most inviting. Beyond the sculptures and polished countertops, each vying for attention, there’s the pretty terrace with wicker garden furniture and potted plants. And when it’s time to close the shuttered bay windows against the night, there’s plenty more to draw a sigh – from the sparkly tiled bathroom to the master suite with its super-king bed. Access & Suitability This home is located on the 2nd floor. There is an elevator but there are a few steps up to the entrance. Therefore it would not be suitable for those who cannot manage a few stairs. Neighbourhood Take a pleasant walk up the King’s Road, with its multitude and variety of high street shops and boutiques, eclectic bars and sophisticated restaurants, and you will happen upon the hallowed precincts of Sloane Square, and from thence you are a few minutes from Harrods. For those of a Thespian bent, the Royal Court theatre is just on Sloane Square, and on Saturdays at the nearby Duke of York Square, a gastronomically cosmopolitan food market will hold all foodies in its thrall. The Saatchi gallery, a few minutes away, will delight all art fans, and a short and picturesque walk will take you down onto Chelsea embankment and the Thames, to the foot of the iconic Albert Bridge. For those who like to look beneath the surface to the layers of layers of London history, which have built up over the centuries, Chelsea is a wonderful area to explore. Discover Crosby Hall, on Cheyne Walk, which was moved brick by brick from its original location in Bishopsgate, Thomas More’s house and an eternal monument to the ‘man for all seasons’; wander a little further down to what was once Henry VIII’s manor house (19 – 26 Cheyne Walk) and drink in the echoes of its old residents, from Katherine Parr (to whom Henry gave the house as a wedding present) to the tragic Lady Jane Grey, the nine – day Queen. Chelsea has always been synonymous with wealth and royalty, ever since Henry VIII and his six successive wives haunted its enclaves, not to mention Thomas More, whose home in Cheyne Walk stands to this day. The King’s Road weaves its way through the area, carrying with it an aura of luxury and sophistication. However, despite its reputation for all that is chic and debonair, it still rings with the echoes of its Bohemian past, dispelling all odours of stuffiness. For centuries home to myriad artists – many of the pre-Raphaelites, Turner, the satirist Swift, and historian Carlyle spent their lives here in Chelsea – it was more recently the roosting place for Swinging Londoners, and a decade later, the birth place of punk. The famous Chelsea Art School is still a mecca for aspiring young artists, and lends the area intellectual glamour, whilst the surprising mixture of traditional and esoteric bars and clubs attracts London’s Bright Young Things – Chelsea is still very much up for the party! - Nearest tube station (Fulham Broadway) 2 min (walk). - Westminster (for Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square): 15 min (tube). - West End (for The Theatre District, Covent Garden, Leicester Square) - 20 min (tube). - South Kensington (for the V&A, Science and Natural History museums) - 7 min (tube). Booking Conditions We politely ask guests to note the following: Minimum length of stay: 5 nights Maximum party size: 4 Lead guest must be 30 or older Strictly no smoking or pets ake a pleasant walk up the King’s Road, with its multitude and variety of high street shops and boutiques, eclectic bars and sophisticated restaurants, and you will happen upon the hallowed precincts of Sloane Square, and from thence you are a few minutes from Harrods. The interiors of the house are full of character with beautiful period features; on arrival you will immediately notice the intricate staircase which was modelled on a ship’s interior. The patterned tiled floor in the corridor, elegant chandeliers and wooden panels create a charming atmosphere and remind one of a ship’s passageway. Towards the right is the TV room, a comfortable space with traditional décor, large wall-mounted TV and high-quality sound system. Across the corridor is the main living area with its spacious proportions and elegant design; it adjoins a piano room which accesses the wonderful back garden. The paved part of the garden is lined with beautiful flowers and has multiple dining arrangements, whilst at the rear is a sizeable grassy lawn where children can play freely. For convenience, there is a servery in the piano room, with a wine cooler and crockery to be used for garden parties and barbecues. Across the corridor is a simply stunning dining room with views of the City. Its 10+ seat arrangement can accommodate the whole family for a formal dinner, and there is the added convenience of a servery with a heating tray, as well as a separate cupboard with a dishwasher for clearing efficiently without the need to carry dishes to the kitchen. On the lower level of the house is the family kitchen with exposed brick features and a large island breakfast bar. This space is large enough to have two separate preparation areas and is fully equipped for every day or professional catering for parties or a large number of dinner guests. The dumb waiter in the kitchen connects to the living area, so guests can send hot meals up for a formal dinner. There is an informal dining room on the lower level, as well as a play area for children with low-level furniture and toys, as well as direct access to the garden. At the rear of the first floor is a cosy seating space named “The Chapel” which catches the morning light beautifully and guests will particularly love enjoying their morning coffee and a quiet conversation here. There are three bedroom suites on this level; the Henrietta suite is a very light room with views of the garden. It has a double bed, elegant chairs as well as an en-suite bathroom with a free-standing bath as well as a shower room. The Nelson suite has a four-poster double bed and a TV. Its en suite bathroom is fitted with a bath and overhead shower. Finally on this floor is a room with two bunk beds (4 single beds in total) ideal for the children. The security deposit is refundable at the end of the stay. Hamilton House is in close proximity to the 183 acres of open land at Greenwich Park, the oldest enclosed Royal Park, which can be reached from just a short walk along country style lanes. As with the whole of Greenwich, the history of the old house is entwined with seafaring, the Admiralty and commerce in the City of London. The height of its elevated position meant that St Paul’s Cathedral was always in sight and still is. Greenwich is famous for landmarks which include the Cutty Sark, National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory and Sir Christopher Wren’s Old Royal Naval College. The stunning Greenwich Park is on the doorstep of this property, and is the oldest enclosed Royal Park in the UK (it dates back to the Roman times and was enclosed in 1427) with its 183 acres of open land.
