Icing on the cake The Victorians were imaginative, whimsical, ambitious and proud, and they really knew how to build houses. And with its high ceilings, beautiful floors and large windows, Kelfield Gardens is a wonderful example of the most enduringly popular of London homes. Functional and spacious, with just the lightest dusting of historical grandeur, it's the ideal place to bring your family. Inside, it's recently refurbished, with an enormous kitchen extension, while the interiors are simple and modern, with a few delightful twists. Fondant fancy Your hostess is currently juggling her new cake decorating business with looking after her gorgeous two year old boy and five year old girl. She’s originally from California, while her partner hails from Dublin. Ganache panache You’ll love the original flooring in Kelfield Gardens, and keep your eyes down for the sitting room’s stunning floral rug. The windows flood the space with sunshine, so put on the tv, take a book from the loaded shelves, or flex your fingers at one of the two pianos. Down the hall you’ll find the enormous kitchen diner, light pouring in from the glass roof and the doors onto the garden. Eat outside on the decked terrace, at the round dining table, or at the funky breakfast bar, and then head upstairs. On the first floor you’ll find the master bedroom, looking over the garden, with a dressing room and a glamorous en suite bathroom with a deep tub and a walk in shower. You've a further comfortable double, with antique furniture and a curly wrought iron bed, a family bathroom, and the sweet bedroom of the young master of the house, with bunk beds, a toy chest, and, should you require it, a cot. It’s a residential area, well connected to Central London. It is a booming area and if you're by the station come rush hour, you will see plenty of people in suits coming home from work. In 2015, The Telegraph listed Willesden Green as one of their new middle-class areas of London. House prices around the station, and surrounding areas, have "outpaced the oligarch and banker hotspots of Chelsea, Westminster, and even Knightsbridge". The Guardian mentioned Willesden Green's fast gentrification, as well as that of nearby Queen's Park and Kensal Green, as sending a "ripple through the borough". The eponymous Station, Willesden Green, has a long history. It opened on 24 November 1879 on the Metropolitan Railway (later the Metropolitan line). Now, this station is only connected to one of the newest Jubilee line that takes less than 30 mins. to reach Green Park in Mayfair, the luxury centre of London. Jubilee line directly connects Willesden Green area with the major turistic parts of the city: Baker Street, Bond Street, Green Park, Westminster (where you can visit the Big Ben), Waterloo (where you can visit London Eye and Southbank), London Bridge, Canary Wharf and Stratford. By road, it is connected to many places as the A41 road/A5 road runs close by in nearby Kilburn/Cricklewood. The North Circular Road, the inner orbital road of London, is nearby running through Neasden. A large bus garage was built in 1902 and thus many bus routes start or run through the town. These routes are shown in the table below. The Queen visited it during her Golden Jubilee celebrations (2002). Close your holiday stay apartment, you will find a vibrant area full of shops that allow you to have everything you could need at your fingertips. In particular, there is a very convenient Sainsbury’s Local Supermarket in front of the station. But, there is another much larger Sainsbury's Supermarket that it is only 10 minutes walk from the station. Also in the area, you will find a handy pharmacy, some tasty restaurants (including a Sushi, Italian and Turkish Restaurant), some cozy pubs, cafes and fast foods. Most of this places are always full and crowded during weekend. Do not miss off licences & wine merchants here. Being this a residential area, you will have the befinit to find all amenities that you could need if you are planning a short stay in London. Quadrophenia). Also, in London there is this "passion" for markets, shopping and going out. Well ... here you have it all at walking distance: - Shepherd's Bush Market at 2 minutes, with fresh food and ethnical products (Sudan, Indian, Ethiopian, Jamaican,... ) - Westfield mall at 7 minutes, with all luxury and commercial high street brands (I believe this is the largest mall in London) - Restaurants all around including Italian' chinese, japanese, etiopian, polish, turkish, thailandese, colombian, vegetarian, pubs, fish& chips,... And obviously you are 4 metro aways from Portobello Road and 20 minutes to most of London's attractions Getting AroundClosest metro il Goldhawk Road. You'll be shortly in Portobello, Little Venice, Baker Street and then Barbican and Liverpool Street. It is an underground but it runs on the surface sometime - thus it might be interesting to look around as you travel. If you want to go straight to the centre (Oxford Circus, Bond Street, Piccadilly, Saint Paul, Monument,...) go tho the Central line in Shepherd's Bush (7 min walking). Also if you have iphone - android I suggest downloading "Citymapper". It will make your travels around London a pleasure and save a lot of time! The SpaceChic, artistic and fun: light-filled two bedroom, two bathroom apartment which comfortably accommodates up to four guests (depending on the configuration). The master bedroom features a king-sized bed (super king by UK standards) and plenty of cupboard and dresser space for unpacking your clothes and settling in. A large flat-screen TV and DVD player is also discreetly tucked away behind cupboard doors. The main bathroom has a large bathtub for decadent soaking, overhead shower and heated towel rack to keep your towels warm and dry. Upstairs, the cosy loft bedroom features a super-comfy double bed, cupboard space for hanging clothes, flat-screen TV and DVD player and a small but lovely ensuite bathroom with shower. Two skylights let lots of light in during the day, but if you want to sleep late then the black-out blinds make that easy too. Being a converted loft space, the bedroom isn't large and the ceilings aren't high, but it's comfortable in every way (our friends love coming to stay and always comment on what a great night's sleep they had!). You'll find that there are luxe, thoughtful details throughout the house. There's a water softener installed in both bathrooms for luxe bathing and silky soft hair (because London has particularly hard water). Hairdryers can be found in the cupboard. If you like listening to music at home, you'll love being able to play your own iTunes music wirelessly through the speakers in the living room and bedroom with Airplay. Both bedrooms have a TV and DVD player, with the master bedroom also having Sky cable. AppleTV is installed in the living room, so if you have your own account all you need to do is log in. Heating is on an automatic timer - with radiators in every room - to ensure that inside things are always warm and cosy. The kitchen has everything you might need - with a compact dishwasher, microwave, fridge/freezer, oven, toaster, etc. There's a full range of appliances including a juicer, blender and sandwich maker through to a Nespresso coffee machine or coffee grinder and Italian Moka espresso maker (for caffeine purists!). All the pantry basics such as coffee, tea, sugar, herbs/spices, salt, cooking oil, etc. are in the cupboards for you to use freely. (Nespresso coffee is provided if you need an at-home caffeine fix before you leave for the day, though we recommend the brilliant Allpress coffee at Granger & Co. on Westbourne Grove - it's fantastic.) For laundry, there's a compact washing machine in the kitchen (which is quite standard for urban London/European living) and a clothes drying rack which can be popped next to the radiator to speed up the drying process. An iron and ironing board is on hand to revive clothes crumpled by travel. My housekeeper, Anna, is also happy to help out with personal laundry if you have a few extra days to have it turned around. There's also a great dry cleaner nearby that offers a collection and delivery service which I often use and happily recommend. Crisp, high thread count bed linens and white fluffy towels are all provided. Bed linens are changed weekly, and Anna will pop in mid-week during your stay to give the house a quick once-over, make sure you have fresh, clean towels and check to see if you need help with anything. If you're staying in, there's lots to keep you entertained - Sky cable TV, fast unlimited Wifi, an extensive DVD library (including kids titles), Wii and Playstation (both with games), a range of board games, music CDs and a small but interesting selection of books. A scanner/printer is also available (with software + manual for easy set up) for printing travel or work documents. Guest AccessYou have the entire apartment to yourselves and so you can really settle in and make yourself at home. Interaction with GuestsI only rent the house out when I'm overseas or away, so unfortunately you won't get to meet me personally. On the other hand, it's all yours and so you get a private residence for your exclusive use while you're in town. I have a friend in London who manages the logistics of check in/out and is available to answer any questions you might have or talk you through anything you need help with during your stay. He'll arrange your arrival details, meet you to give you the keys and show you through the house, explain how things work, etc. My housekeeper Anna will also pop in mid-week during your stay to give the apartment a little love, provide fresh towels and help you with anything you might need assistance with. If you have any special requests that might make your stay a little easier, or need any info before your stay (such as a recommendation for a car pick-up from the airport to make sure your arrival is stress-free), just ask. The NeighborhoodThe apartment is on a quiet residential street just a few blocks away from the busyness and bustle of the centre of Notting Hill. Right across the street there's a green, grassy park. The park's a favourite for personal trainers in the area as it has a great outdoor gym and a marked jogging track, making it easy to get some exercise and fresh air. It also has a great play area for children. Directly opposite the house there's a convenience store for simple every day items, or if you need a bigger selection at short notice, a small Tesco grocery store around the corner does the trick. The Thai restaurant across the road makes a quick dinner easy if you want a convenient no-frills takeaway to eat at home, though of course with all the fantastic restaurants and foodie experiences on offer in London it would be a shame not to venture further afield! The location is fantastic - just a stone's throw from the centre of Notting Hill - an easy 15 minute walk takes you straight to the Portobello Rd. From the Portobello you can make your way into the middle of the action - the must-visit market on the weekend for street food, vintage finds and reggae tunes, browsing Golborne Road's quirky, eclectic interior shops or just enjoying the smart little nook of Westbourne Grove. To help make sure you get the most out of your stay, I provide a guest manual with my neighbourhood top picks and recommendations for places to eat, breakfast spots, special shops and cool local things to do, along with a list of handy contacts - from mini cabs to airport transfers, local gym options and so on. Getting AroundTransport options are plentiful and convenient. There's a bus stop on the next street over, less than a 2 minute walk away. There are two main bus lines that will take you into Russell Square and the West End, or Ladbroke Grove (where you can then jump on the tube) and beyond. There are two tube stations within a 15 minute walk from the house - Ladbroke Grove in one direction, or White City (where the huge Westfield shopping centre is) in the other. The tube from White City will take you directly into East London. There's also a Boris/Barclay's bicycle hire station an easy 10-minute walk from the house too. With stations all over London, bikes are a great way to explore London on a clear day - lots of fun and an unforgettable way to see the city. Cheap & cheerful! If you have your own car, there's parking on the street out the front which is only around £1 per hour - some of the cheapest in London. Once you get your bearings you'll quickly see that the apartment is very centrally located and close to everything. Other Things to NotePlease send me an enquiry email before making a reservation request, so I can check the most up-to-date availability on my calendar, and you also get a chance to ask any questions you might have. That way we can also both be sure that it's the perfect fit for your stay in London before you confirm your booking. [*Cleaning fees: even though the house is professionally cleaned from top to bottom on a weekly basis, you aren't charged an extra fee for this. Instead it's already factored into the price.]
