The SpaceOur modern Backhouse is located at the end of our garden walk and beyond our yard, making it perfect for our guests privacy. The yard itself is bright, clean, and soothing, and doesn't make you feel like you are in the big city of Los Angeles. It has a statement Lemon Tree in the middle hung with lights for a stary night time mood and is a haven for squirrels, birds, hummingbirds, butterflies in the sunny daytime.
Backhouse Birdie is a newly constructed house. Just finished in September! All the furnishings and amenities are new; the comfy bed, the kitchen, the towels, the blankets, everything. And if you like to cook it has a well stocked kitchen with all your necessary utensils, cooking ware, bakeware, and accoutrements. We have a pack and play in the unit for anyone with babies or tots.
Free Street Parking is easy to find in front of the house.
We have Apple TV, with all major networks, Hulu, Netflix, any iTunes purchases will be deducted from your deposit.
You will find an assortment of tea, coffee, instant cocoa, as well as the basic toiletries (shower gels, shampoo, conditioner, cotton rounds, cotton swabs, 1st aid kit, toothpaste, hairdryer). Guest AccessI have a super clean, newly landscaped, fully fenced in yard with gate code access. The picnic table and the yard are shared space for our guests. You have your own private balcony space. You are welcome to pick flowers and veggies from our large side vegetable garden! Interaction with GuestsIf you have any questions or need advice about what to do and see in LA please ask us.
We live in the front house on the property which is separate from Backhouse Birdie, just text before you pop in (if you don't catch us in the yard) so we know you need assistance. We will not disturb your stay, but if you catch myself or my wife Amanda around we are super friendly and engaging so feel free to say hi! The NeighborhoodSilver Lake is a colorful friendly neighborhood, hilly, very green, and rich in cultural diversity. Known for its roots in the music and arts scene it has an openminded outlook and a skip in it's step. Our place is within walking distance to Sunset Junction, Echo Park Strip, Silverlake Blvd, Hip Restaurants, Diners, Bars, Coffee Shops, Bakeries, Liquor Stores, Wine Cellars, Cheese shops, Boutiques, Food Trucks, Music venues, Echo Park Lake (w/playground & paddleboats), Silverlake Reservoir (w/playground), Silverlake Farmers Market: Tues/Sat, Echo Park Farmers Market: Fri. This is one of the few places in LA where you can do everything you want by just walking out your door!!!! Getting AroundYou basically have 3 super cool neighborhood strips of shops and restaurants all within 5 - 10 min walk! Downtown is just 10 minutes by car. Hwy 2 and Hwy 101 each a 3 minute car ride. Bus Stop to Downtown and Trains 1/2 block away. This includes lines to Union Station (the central hub) which is connected to all subway, buses, and train lines. LAX and Union Station have a regular shuttle called Flyaway, making the trip from/to the airport extremely simple and painless for $7 per person for 30mins of transport. Of course Uber and Lift are super affordable transpo options especially for the business traveler or for late night shenanigans. But as most people know cars are handy in LA, if visiting with your family, or coming for an extended stay it will be wise to rent one. Luckily if you choose not to rent a car then change your mind later there is a Hertz and an Enterprise location in Silver Lake just a few blocks away. Other Things to NoteIf you know your estimate time of arrival please let us know so we can better accommodate you. (during the night especially)
There is a Large Room with a Queen Bed below Backhouse Birdie that is also available for rent if you have a larger group. We also use this space to host our own guests.
