Awaken with excited anticipation in our 1930's Spanish-style home 1BDR+ retreat. Down the block from the always vibrant & walkable Sunset Junction, SilverLake's The Red Door has that warm welcome of an old friend with all the charm of modern day. Our freshly renovated & newly furnished private sanctuary includes original hardwood flooring throughout a sizable living room. Here you can enjoy HD-TV with cable & HBO, Internet access, write a letter at your own work desk or just curl up on the daybed among the “birch treesâ€? while getting relaxedly lost in a book. Perhaps, after turning on your music at the iPod dock & radio, you may want to saunter into the kitchen/4 seated dining area where black with white speckled granite kitchen counters, modern kitchen appliances, & all the essential cooking implements await your inner chef to reveal him/herself. Here is where that family recipe can be made with all the fresh ingredients you bought that morning at our Saturday local farmer's market. Finally, when the day has filled your heart & imagination with all that Los Angeles has to offer, you ready yourself for the night in your full marble-floored bathroom. Make your way to the upstairs bedroom equipped with a queen sized bed that sleeps two, a view of the Hollywood Sign, a brand new AC/heater, & a full length mirror. Open a few of your 360 degree windows for a cross-breeze and wave goodnight to the beautifully lit Griffith Observatory. Choose a day of leisure or one of inspired work -it's up to you! Since we live in the rear unit, we needed a place that said home, warmth, & possibility. We found all those qualities and more! In addition, we have always loved Silver Lake for it's diversity of people, restaurants, and cultural offerings. Where else can you encounter a community with an array of creative, artistic, and business-minded individuals? ** “Silver Lake takes the top spot on Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s Best Hipster Neighborhoods.” -Forbes Magazine 2013 ** In the top 10 “best big city neighborhood.” -Money Magazine 2013

The SpaceAmazing location in a super walkable neighborhood. There's a grocery store (Yummy) down the street, as well as restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Favorite places nearby: Mornings Nights cafe - great bagels Pine and Crane - amazing Taiwanese food Cliff's Edge - great food, nice patio, good bar Sawyer - seafood, cocktails Kettle Black - Italian, best fancy pizza around Garage pizza - for slices Dinosaur coffee (and the Elliot Smith mural next to it) 4100 - for drinks in a dark place Jay's bar - for good beer LA County Store - locally made gifts Rag Mopp Vintage Akbar - cool dive-y gay bar On Saturday mornings and Tuesday evenings the Silverlake farmer's market happens just across the street. A little farther but still close: Griffith park observatory Echo Park Lake Silverlake is pretty centrally located, Echo Park, Hollywood, Downtown, Little Tokyo, Chinatown are all nearby. The apartment is perfect for one or two people, there's also an Ikea futon that can fit one or two more, though it'll be a bit tight. Note: the apartment is in the back of the building, it's very quiet most of the time, but the outside garbage bins are located nearby so you may hear people once in a while. Another note: I usually have no trouble finding a parking spot very close on Edgecliffe or Effie, though you may end up having to park a couple blocks away. Pay attention to the signs when parking. Tickets in LA are very expensive. Guest AccessFeel free to use pots and pans in the kitchen, as well as butter, oil and spices etc. I don't have a toaster yet, I use the oven for now. No microwave and no tv either. There's coin laundry in the basement that you're welcome to use.

The SpaceMy apartment is just off Sunset Blvd. in the heart of Silverlake. There are boutique shops, hip restaurants, and bars just out the door. This area is great for out of towners with walkability and several bus lines stopping just outside of the building. Not far from the Griffith Park Observatory, Greek Theater, hiking trails, Echo Park Lake, etc. 10 minutes from Hollywood and 15 from Downtown LA. You’ll love my place because of I've spent a lot of time cozying up this 1920s apartment. The hardwood floors and exposed brick are my favorite features. The furnishings are mostly antiques and the art works are family pieces - so I really pride this on being my home! Not just a place to lay my head. My king sized bed is very comfortable and the bedroom is quiet and dark. I'm a very sensitive sleeper and I always sleep great here - so you should too! I love to cook and you'll find my kitchen is pretty well stocked. Plenty of pans and serving dishes. Good knives. The small kitchen table can fold out to a larger dining table to accommodate dinner guests. If you like unwinding in front of the TV - you'll love my 55" Ultra HD 4K tv with a booming home theater system. I've got Netflix, HBOGO, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video, and a PS4 system. A dog lives here. She's a Maltipoo and hypoallergenic, but if you are highly allergic to dogs, please stay at your own risk. Dogs are okay here case by case. Guest AccessEverything in the apartment with these exceptions: - Personal toiletries in the mirror cabinet - The living room storage closet. The green dresser in the bedroom is for guests. (If you need to hang stuff, you can move my clothing over on the bar in the hall closet). - Food in the cabinets and refrigerator (if you're cooking feel free to use spices, flower, oils, sugar, etc.) Interaction with GuestsIf I'm renting my apartment to you, it means I'm probably out of town. I'll be available by phone for any questions. I've lived in LA for 10 years and grew up nearby, so hit me up for any recommendations or help. I'm happy to give it (especially food!). The NeighborhoodThis neighborhood is very cool. Don't expect Beverly Hills - there are vagrants here and there and some blocks are nicer than others. But overall, it is a very walkable, funky neighborhood. I have lots of recommendations - just ask! Getting AroundThe bus stop on Sunset right outside has multiple lines going downtown, to Hollywood, and to the beach (it's far but it does go). You can also take a bus downtown to the 7th street metro center and catch the metro expo line all the way to Santa Monica beach. Other Things to NoteThese are my disclosures: the building's common spaces are kind of cruddy. Hallway, back patio, etc. The apartment itself is great and I've taken great pride in making it nice. I'm confident you will enjoy your experience inside the apartment. But if you need a nice patio or yard, this isn't the place for you. Also, the bathroom is kind of small without counter space for those who require a lot of getting ready (I've received this feedback from the women in my life).

The SpaceThe living space consists of large flat screen TV with Apple TV ( Netflix, Hulu all available) and a coffee table and chair. There is a desk area, full sized bathroom and fully stocked kitchen with stove and microwave. The bedroom has a comfy Queen sized bed and drawers for guest to keep personal items. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire place. Feel free you use utensils in the kitchen and the refrigerator and stove. Interaction with GuestsI will not be there during your stay but will be available if anything should come up. The NeighborhoodSilver Lake is nestled between Echo Park and Los Feliz and boasts some of the nation’s most lauded food trucks and farmers markets, a multicultural blend of residents with eclectic professions, and a booming arts scene. There are many markets, restaurants, and coffee shops close by. On Tuesdays and Saturdays, the local farmer's market (on Sunset and Maltman), is where you'll find local organic produce, meats, breads, snacks, and it's the perfect place for an outdoor lunch. Some of the highest-rated restaurants & local coffee shops are within walking distance Night + Market Song, Alfred Coffee, Lark Bakery, Cliff's Edge, Trois Familia, El Cochinto, Pine & Crane, Forage, Intelligentsia Coffee, El Condor, The Black Cat, Silverlake Ramen. You will find no shortage of vegan and brunch options nearby. Getting AroundThis apartment is centrally located right on Sunset Blvd. Please expect moderate traffic noise. The SpaceThe apartment is exceptionally clean and comfortable, making this an ideal retreat. We have hosted several friends at a time comfortably and the resounding sentiment is that the space is truly an oasis. The television in the living room has Netflix, Spotify and an HDMI cable for connecting your laptop. If you like to cook, we have a fully equipped kitchen, and space in the fridge for you to store perishables. In addition to our queen memory foam mattress bed in the private bedroom, the sofa is comfortable for sleeping one person and we have a queen blow-up mattress for two extra guests as well. Guest AccessAs our guest, you will have access to all of the apartment with the exception of the studio which will be locked anyway. Interaction with GuestsSteph and I will always be available via phone or text during your stay, should you have any questions or concerns. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is filled with beautiful houses, winding narrow streets that go through hills, funky restaurants, coffee shops and boutique and thrift stores. The historic Silver Lake steps are a literal stones throw from the apartment, and are a local exercise-enthusiast's attraction. There is free street parking (no restrictions). There are several other things you can walk to in the neighborhood - 365 by Whole Foods Market, By Chloe (amazing vegan cafe from NYC) local and chain coffee shops (silver lake coffee and Starbucks), The Red Lion Tavern, Silver Lake Reservoir (great exercise area and running path), CVS, several restaurants, a yoga studio (Still Yoga) and more. A short 3-5 min drive away still in Silver Lake are an artisanal ice cream store called Milk, critically acclaimed dining (Moby's Little Pine Restaurant, Hyperion Public, Edendale), more coffee shops (Lamill Coffee, Intelligentsia Coffee), music performance venues and a fabulous farmers market (every Tuesday and Saturday) and Flea Market (every Sunday). Getting AroundIf you have a car, then the world of Silver Lake and beyond is your oyster. We can recommend incredible hiking (as little as 10 minutes away), restaurants, beach excursions and live performances of any genre in the area. If you do not have a car, the Uber or Lyft apps are readily available to take you throughout LA and is quite reasonable is you select "Uber pool" or "Lyft line" and don't mind potentially riding with another Uber/Lyft user (to go all the way to Santa Monica Pier - 45 min to 1 hour drive - costs $18). I will happily provide you with a code that will give you credits toward your first rides if you do not already have the apps - just text me to remind me. Other Things to NoteSmoking must be contained to the outdoor space and we ask that cigarettes are cleaned up. We like to keep the apartment mostly shoe free. We have a washer and dryer which you are welcome to. Should you wish to hit up a west coast beach, we've got you covered with a beach bag, chairs, umbrella, towels, pickle ball, cooler and sunscreen.

We adore our sun-soaked, spacious apartment in "Historic Filipinotown", situated in the larger Silverlake neighborhood - hopefully you will too! LA is such a big city, it's great to have a foothold on the fun, trendy Eastside while still being just a quick ride from the beach or the mountains. We strive to make our home a clean, comfortable retreat - we will both be out of town for the month, visiting family in New York, so you'll have the space to yourself, but are totally available via text, phone, email, etc to answer any questions you may have (and local friends/neighbors can help out if you ever get locked out, have an emergency, etc!) We are looking for longer-term stays as we will be gone for a month, which is why the minimum booking is 10 nights - ideally, we'd love to host someone for a few weeks, but this is flexible, so please message me to discuss dates, etc! Guest AccessThe apartment will be totally yours, with full access to laundry/elevator etc. Interaction with GuestsWe will both be on the East Coast from Dec. 10 to Jan. 4 and want to AirB&B our home as a perfect holiday stay! We may not be physically around, but we are around 100% via phone to make sure you have the best experience possible in our home. The NeighborhoodWe love our neighborhood for so many reasons, but the biggest one is its proximity to fun happenings around LA. Head over to Sunset Boulevard (just a 20-minute walk, 12-minute bike ride or 8-minute drive!) to enjoy the Silverlake Farmer's Market on Saturdays and Tuesdays, grab a boba tea and pork buns from Pine & Crane, find gorgeous and price-friendly vintage clothes at Painted Bird, or sip a latte from Intelligentsia Coffee and people-watch at Sunset Junction. If you want to bar-hop, head to the Thirsty Crow (and don't forget to grab some late-night tonkotsu ramen next door at Silverlake Ramen), or head down on Sunset into Echo Park and hit up Little Joy, Gold Room, the Shortstop and other favorite bars in the neighborhood. While you're there, check out the used-book sales and live music/storytelling events at Stories, our favorite local bookstore! A run around the Silverlake Reservoir should always be followed with a taco al pastor from any of Silverlake's many taco trucks (we love the one usually parked outside Little Joy.) This barely even scratches the surface of all there is to do just in our neighborhood - we can't wait for you to get out and explore LA! Getting AroundThere's always street parking on our street! We're about twenty minutes from the 7th/Metro Center metro stop (a hub for LA transit). Don't believe the bad rap LA public transport gets - it's cheap and easy if you plan ahead! We both bike around our neighborhood regularly - a great workout and an even better way to see the city :)

The SpaceWelcome to your 1600 square foot private retreat in the Silver Lake Hills! This is Los Angeles at its best. The upstairs of the house is an open floor plan - I remodeled the entire house 2 years ago. Large kitchen and living room, small dining area and DJ music setup which leads into a tea room done in Moroccan style and set up to be a guest room - it contains a private balcony that overlooks Echo Park hills/Downtown Los Angeles, and small bathroom. The downstairs contains a large bathroom, laundry room, guest room and master bedroom. The house was designed for the upstairs to be open up during parties and the downstairs to contain the living area. The pictures do it justice so if you have any questions just email me or my sister. I live on an amazing street in an amazing neighborhood. Walking distance to basically everything in Silver Lake and Echo Park, 2 miles from anything on the East Side, and a short ten minute drive to Downtown or Hollywood areas. This is my private home, I only rent it out when I travel, - I have over 30 reviews on another airbnb account that was managed by a friend, and switched it over to this account so my sister can handle it easier. -the backyard is not shown, as I treat it a bit as a workshop and it changes constantly, it is a basic flat backyard which overlooks the city. It might be a bit of a mess -I'm currently designing a new space back there, you are welcome to use the space in anyway you like. Guest AccessThe whole place is yours. Use the kitchen, raid the fridge, drink the fancy teas, use the sewing machine, DJ booth, sewing machine, washer/dryer, yard, whatever. Interaction with GuestsIf you are renting this space, it is because I am out of town. My sister handles most stuff when I am not there, if by chance we are both out of town and you need something, I have friends in the area. Mostly I will give you space. The NeighborhoodThis is Silver Lake! With Echo Park adjacent. The neighborhood that invented the hipster. Style meets charm with in this newly renovated 100-year-old home with LA flair just off of Sunset Blvd. Artsy, meditative, & fun home with a view from the deck and a huge yard. Walking distance to hip LA stores. Live like a local, perfect artist getaway or romantic retreat. Stroll the neighborhood and see the sites from an east-sider's point of view! The house itself is walking distance from the three main districts of the area -Sunset Junction, Echo Park and Downtown Silver Lake. It is less than 2 miles from all the East Side districts and about 3 miles from Downtown Los Angeles. Getting AroundA bus stop is within walking distance. An Uber to Downtown usually runs 4-6 dollars with pool. 3 miles from union station - this is where the flyaway dropoff is for LAX. Other Things to NoteThis is my home, treat it as your own. I won't be moving my stuff out of the closets and drawers.

The SpaceQuick note: you don't really pay the security deposit. It is more of an OBLIGATION to pay that amount in case there is theft/damage/etc. You won't need to pay it when booking. Note: Airbnb does NOT charge you a security deposit upfront. It is treated as an obligation if any theft/damage occurs. Bands, Musicians, Late Check Ins Welcome! Cleaning cost discounts available for smaller groups or longer stays. Feel free to negotiate. You're going to be living in (what used to be) a church. How rad is that?! Want more space? My neighbors and I have banded together to offer the entire building out for larger groups. We're artists, musicians and overall creative people–we understand how hard it is to find an affordable place where you can put everyone under one roof. Here are my neighbor's spots for you to check out. Any one of us can figure out a package deal for you: Unit A: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4317051 (medium sized unit - 4 Queen beds / 2 full floor mattresses / 3 futons / 3 airbeds) sleeps 21 max Unit B (this one): https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16273883 (medium sized unit - 6 Full beds / 2 full floor mattresses / 1 floor twin / 3 airbeds / 1 couch / 1 sofa bed) sleeps 23 max Unit C: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16677171 (smaller unit - 4 full beds / 1 full floor mattress / 1 twin floor mattress / 1 couch / 1 sofa bed / 1 airbed) sleeps 15 max Unit D: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16403871 (smaller unit - 5 full beds / 1 full floor mattress / 1 twin floor mattress / 1 couch / 1 sofa bed / 3 airbeds) sleeps 19 max Unit E: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/16315762 (big unit - 12 full beds / 2 full floor mattresses / 1 couch / 1 sofa bed / 1 airbed) sleeps 32 max Unit F: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6836730 (big unit - 2 queen beds / 7 full beds / 2 twin beds / 4 airbeds) sleeps 24 max *TAKE NOTE: just because this many people can sleep here, that doesn't mean it's going to be the most enjoyable experience. We try our best to place strategic hooks and luggage racks to make good use of space but the more you stuff, the more you sacrifice. Just keep that in mind. ---------------------------------------------------------- LOFT DEFINITION We've been getting a lot of guests that don't know what a loft is. This church has been converted to 6 apartments. This listing is ONE PRIVATE LOFT APARTMENT. This loft doesn't have proper bedrooms and each of the floors are open and connected with a spiral staircase. You are able to have a conversation easily between the top and middle floors since they share the same airspace. The bottom floor is more private from the top two floors. ---------------------------------------------------------- DETAILS FOR THE NEUROTIC: - You get 1 parking spot in a gated lot. I might be able to ask my neighbors for more but it depends. - Beds are all FULL (aka "double") SIZED gel memory foam (Lucid Brand). People love these mattresses and it's important to us to have a good sleep. - Waterproof/bedbug-proof/hypoallergenic encasements cover ALL mattresses and pillowcases. - We have a laundry service that uses "Planet" brand detergent–free of nasty additives. - All bedding is 100% cotton. - We provide linens for every guest and a towel. - We provide toilet paper. - We provide Everyone™ 3-In-1 soap that can be used as a shampoo, shower gel, or bubble bath. Made with plant derived cleansers and botanical extracts. - 2 PAIRS of Coin operated laundry units are available on the lower level of the building (that means 4 machines: 2 washers / 2 dryers). I wish it were free but we can't cut the contract with the company until next year. ---------------------------------------------------------- BED LAYOUT: Total that can sleep here on the beds/couches/airbeds provided: 23 people. If you have kids and want to try to put 3 to a bed, I won't stop you but 23 is the number I'm saying. Top floor - 3 built beds with full size mattresses (2 lofts, 1 platform bed). If sharing beds, it fits 6 people. The platform has an extra mattress you can pull out and place on the floor, so that's +2. A twin size floor mattress will be provided too (+1). 1 single size air mattresses can also fit up here which we will provide if need be (+1). Total: 10. Middle floor - sleeper couch fits 2. Sectional couch fits 1. An airbed can fit as well so 4 total. Bottom floor - 3 built beds (2 loft, 1 platform) with full size mattresses and 1 floor mattress that you can lean against the wall to create space if you're not using it. 4 mattresses total that fit 2 each. 8 total fit. (1 air mattress can fit down here if need be, bringing total to 9) ---------------------------------------------------------- KITCHEN: - 3 pans - 4 pots - Oven with gas powered stovetop - Large Brita water purifier dispenser - Blender - Microwave - Garbage Disposal (aka: Sink Incinerator) - Dishwasher - Dozens of glasses, plates and bowls. TAKE NOTE: although we can sleep a lot here, there isn't a lot of space to hold a formal dinner. Table space is lacking but luckily we live in an area with a lot of eateries and cheap Mexican food is plentiful! ---------------------------------------------------------- CHURCH BACKGROUND Built in the 1920's this building was once a synagogue turned church over the years in the Silver Lake neighborhood in Los Angeles. Much of the original church architecture still stands and has been refinished and retouched like the original wooden floors and of course, the stained glass windows. Recently converted into lofts, Every unit has its own patron saint that can be seen in one of the 2 stained glass windows visible from the 2nd and 3rd floors of the loft. Each floor has its own private lockable entrance and a gorgeous spiral staircase connects all 3 floors. Guest AccessThere is a lockbox so you can get the keys anytime without having to meet up with us. If you are an unreviewed user or a local user, we will need to know more about you when you instant book and we reserve the right to visit daily/nightly, meet you upon check in and ask to see your ID when getting the keys. Interaction with GuestsWe live in the area so we'll be available if you need anything. We have family, friends and an assistant in the area too. Or grab a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich from a food truck parked down the street? Does a dream weekend include foraging for organic veggies at a farmers market and watching the latest hot indie band play on a small stage through the wee hours of the morning? Then, my hipster friend, Los Angeles’ Silver Lake is the neighborhood for you. Silver Lake takes the top spot on Forbes’ inaugural list of America’s Best Hipster Neighborhoods. Nestled between Echo Park and Los Feliz, the trendy community boasts some of the nation’s most lauded food trucks and farmers markets, a multicultural blend of residents with eclectic professions, and a booming arts scene. Even the buildings exude an avant garde aesthetic a hipster could love: Silver Lake is home to some of the most celebrated modernist architecture in the country, including Richard Neutra’s VDL Research House and John Lautner’s Silvertop." The SpaceThe apartment is on a hill and has a plethora of street parking. There are stairs that seem daunting but the incredible view of being tucked away in the hills is worth it. With that being said, there isn't a handicap accessible entrance or exit to the apartment. The kitchen is filled with appliance that are at your disposable. Those are, a blender, coffee bean grinder, french press, toaster, pots & pans, cooking utensils, crock pot (for the experienced chefs). Guest AccessThe apartment is located in Silverlake and just walking distance from many restaurants, exceptional brunch spots, fresh poke, pizza that makes your mouth water, and some of the most superb tres leche cake you can find on the west coast. You do not want to miss this prime spot! Interaction with GuestsMy interaction is all at the interest of my guests. Of course I will be supplying and washing towels, sheets, etc. I work from 9-5 Monday-Thursday. If you care to hear about my wonderful life stories, we can sit for hours on end. If you prefer to explore the city or cozy up to a good book in your room instead, then that's just as dandy! The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is a quite one, it's quaint and beautiful. With that being said, with the quick click of an Uber you can be minutes away from the most glamorous and lively bars. Getting AroundThe best means of transportation is Uber of Lyft which are both highly recommended.
