The SpaceOur house was built in the 1970s and we have furnished it in a mid century style complemented by our collection of works by NZ artists.
There is a choice of two bedrooms, one king or twin beds, the other has a queen bed. You have private use of the bathroom facilities in the morning and evening. There is a separate shower, separate toilet and separate bathroom.
There is a large open plan living and dining room for you to use. The sunny deck has great views and is an ideal place to enjoy a meal or read a book.
There is ample off street parking and sufficient room for a campervan or boat.
We have free WiFi, Sky TV and stereo. The house has a lift for your luggage and you if you don’t like steps.
The rate is for one person per room and includes a continental breakfast of muesli, fruit, (usually) home made bread, toast, local jams, Pics' famous peanut butter, tea/coffee and juice.
We are keen and competent cooks and can provide you with a cooked breakfast. We are also happy to provide you a healthy home cooked dinner using fresh local ingredients. Cooked meals are available by prior arrangement.
The welcoming committee includes Gus the greyhound. We are pet friendly and well behaved dogs are welcome to stay. We are fully fenced.
Waimea Estuary is the largest estuary in the South Island and is home to wide range of bird life; terns, herons, oyster catchers, kingfishers, spoonbills (occasionally) and of course seagulls. We also have the usual songbirds waxeyes and finches.
At high tide the sea can comes up to the road at the end of our driveway. It is an ideal spot for kayaking, windsurfing and swimming. We are a couple of minutes away from the boat ramp and jetty. The jetty is a popular spot for taking a dip and fishing. We have a small sit on kayak if you want to have a paddle.
Cycling is very popular around here. We are 3 minutes from the Great Taste Trail, an extensive country and coastal cycle trail that takes in the best the region has to offer. We have two mountain bikes available for you to use. There is a near new women’s bike with step through frame and a recently serviced gents bike. Helmets and Hi Viz jackets are provided.
Other attractions include local craft breweries, wineries, cafes, art galleries and Nelson’s famous Saturday Market. Guest AccessYou have access to your own bathroom, toilet and shower in the morning, we have a separate one we use.
You can use our kitchen to cook your evening meal by prior arrangement.
Tea and coffee making facilities including basic espresso machine are available in the kitchen.
You can use the bicycles for no extra charge, there are fishing rods if you want to try your luck off the jetty at high tide and a sit on kayak if you want to have a paddle. The NeighborhoodMonaco is a popular destination for walkers, joggers, cyclists, boaties, kayakers, dog owners and people who like being by the sea enjoying the views and sunsets.
We enjoy the ever changing view of the sea and hills from our house, the closeness to the sea at high tide and the variety of bird life.
It has a public boat ramp, jetty, picnic areas, playground and, on the weekends a cafe (the Krusty Krab), a craft/gift shop and local artist’s studio all within a few minutes walk.
While we are close to the airport the planes are not intrusive. Commercial flights go around Monaco, not over it. In the weekend we enjoy the small aircraft that putter overhead from time to time. Getting AroundWe are a 15 minute drive from central Nelson and 5 mins from the local shopping centre and World of Wearable Arts complex and 10 minutes from the airport. The Honest Lawyer, a popular country style pub and the The Monaco Kitchen restaurant are a 20 minute stroll away.
Having your own transport is recommended. While we can provide airport transfers and you are welcome to use our bikes, your own car may come in handy for exploring and shopping etc. While Nelson does have public transport we are a 40 minute walk from the nearest bus stop.
We have the necessary certifications and licenses to provide transportation services for fee paying passengers.
