The SpaceFLEXIBILITY: Now that I'm retired and fitting in more travel time, I enjoy sharing my 1914 4-Square home with guests on 3 rental options: PRIVATE single bed guest room + 1st and 2nd floor bath; PRIVATE double bed guest room + bath; or ENTIRE house with up to 4 bedrooms + 2 bathrooms when I'm away. IMPORTANT! For a private double room, stay right here and read on. For either of the other options, please visit the other links that I posted. WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT: I'm an empty nester with extra bedroom space to share. In 2004, my husband and I began restoration and retrofitting our home. Sadly, when he died in 2008, I slowly began my search for my new self. Sharing my home through Airbnb fell into place. THE HOUSE: All regular bedrooms are on 2nd floor. 1 full bed; 1 twin bed; 1 queen bed in master bedroom (for use when I'm away.) All beds have memory foam on mattress. 2 newly renovated full bathrooms with walk-in showers; 1 is on the 1st floor and 1 is on the 2nd floor. Bed linens and towels are provided. A 3rd bedroom with double bed and portable heat is on the 3rd floor. It's more like a little studio. The Comfortable living room has a working fireplace best used during the milder temperatures of fall and spring. Kitchen has all the updated appliances for casual cooking. Laundry is in the basement. A retractable laundry line extends from the back porch corner to the storage shed. WIFI is available. The primary TV is in the living room that you are welcome to use. You can also connect your own portable devices for streaming. 2 smaller TVs with basic cable in 2nd floor guest bedrooms. My home is heated on one zone with forced hot air by gas. Window A/Cs are in place during the summer and available as needed. I ask your cooperation with energy conservation while you are sharing my home. That is lights, heat, AC, windows, doors. Free curbside parking around this corner lot with minimal traffic. Small back yard with front and back entrances and open porches. Assortment of board and card games. Outside gas grill is available for cooking. Backyard fire bowl for a relaxing evening with S'mores from spring to fall. If I'm home, I often play guitar as a hobby and enjoy having music on around the house. You're my guest, but I also want you to feel like a friend so it's important that your stay works for both/all of us. NEIGHBORHOOD & LOCAL COMMUNITY: Quiet neighborhood and within 30 minute walking distance to downtown New Bedford. Discover New Bedford Whaling National Historic Park with walking and harbor tours. Let's talk about your needs to provide a comfortable stay based on private room or entire house rent. NEW BEDFORD is a small city of rich diversity. Please don't hesitate to ask me about anything that can enhance your stay. My life-style these days is based on flexibility, comfort, and easy-going. I hope you'll arrive and depart with a sense of belonging. I look forward to welcoming you to NEW BEDFORD. Guest AccessI may or may not be home when a house guest arrives. If I am not at the house when you arrive, the house key/s will be left in a coded key box next to the back porch door. A 4-digit number code will be provided before you arrive. One key has access to the back door and basement side door. If there are two keys, the other key has access to the front door. Whether you are a private guest or renting the entire house, you are welcome to make use of the entire 1st floor for cooking, dining, or relaxation. Courtesy between you and the host and/or other guests and cleaning up after yourself is expected. Interaction with GuestsDuring the months that I am home, I like to interact with my guests as much or as little as you require. I will respect your desire for privacy, but am available for information as needed. When I am away from the house, don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. I'll do my best to reply ASAP. The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is a combination of easy walking and driving distance to many things that you will need but also offers an urban quietness both day and night. In milder weather, I hope you'll relax in the back yard however, please be mindful of our close proximity to abutting neighbors. My desire is to let my guests relax in their own personal space with a shared appreciation of closely abutting neighbors. Your comfort is my success. Getting AroundNew Bedford offers public bus and cab service. Bus service stops in the evening. A local bus stop is just behind the house. Shopping for necessities is minutes away by car. Other Things to NoteAlthough my home has had numerous improvements over the years, there are still those little quirks that only a homeowner would know exactly how to deal with them. That's while I've tried to spell out everything I can think of to make this house-sharing experience positive for both of us. I'm glad you're taking the time to get familiar with your home away from home. Keep reading ;))

I hope I've thought of EVERYTHING I can to make your visit less confusing and more enjoyable. Please read the HOUSE RULES carefully. They include more guidelines than rules that, in the end, will make you and me happier :-)) Since this is my home, I've taken precautionary steps by photographing all around the house. A local property manager helps by occasionally monitoring my property while I'm away. Please don't hesitate to contact me, and I will get in touch with her regarding any problems you may be confronted with. HEY! It could happen. Guest AccessYou will be provided with 1 or 2 keys. You should find it/them inside the storm door on the back porch. One key is for the back and side doors; the 2nd key is for the front door. You can use the front or back door, but I recommend that you come and go through the back door since you are asked to park on the Palmer St. side of the house. Interaction with GuestsI like to meet my guests before, during, or at the end of your stay whenever possible. For entire house guests, I am typically away so communication via email, text, or phone call is important to both of us. Questions or concerns are never an imposition to me. Ask away! The NeighborhoodMy neighborhood is in the West End of New Bedford and is surprisingly quiet. Parking is typically easy especially during the summer season. I encourage you to park on the Palmer St. side of my home. This allows space for my next door neighbors to park in front of their house next door. My immediate next door neighbors are very nice people, and it's important for my guests to respect this neighborhood which belongs to them. Getting AroundGetting to downtown NB by foot is about 20 minutes. SRTA is the local public bus line throughout New Bedford. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) search SRTA online. Cabs are also available. The NB LINE is a shuttle system that connects visitors and residents to cultural and recreational destinations in New Bedford. If you have the stamina and desire, you don't even need a car for visits to the downtown NB area. Numerous guests have chosen my location so that they can walk to downtown without a car. It's about a 30 minute walk along Hawthorne St., left on County St., and right on Union, or Williams. NEARBY TRANSPORTATION: - Centrally located on the south coast with easy auto driving via highway or scenic backroads to Providence, Fall River, Boston, and Cape Cod. - Access from downtown New Bedford to Boston is provided on DATTCO commuter bus. DATTCO will conveniently get you from Boston (South Station) to New Bedford downtown Bus Terminal and back. - Nearby commuter train (MBTA) can be taken from Middleboro/Lakeville to Boston. We are conveniently located on Massachusetts' south coast in the middle of Cape Cod, Boston, Providence, Newport RI, and a short ferry ride to Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket. Make sure you leave at least one day to visit the New Bedford National Historic Park within walking distance. In the summer season, two Visitor Centers are open to help guests navigate their way through the park. One is on William St, downtown; the other is on the waterfront about a 10 minute walk away. For souvenirs, be sure to stop in at Moby Dick Retail Store next to the Downtown Visitor Center...and tell them Judy Stone sent you. They have the BEST New Bedford sweatshirts around! Want to work out in a local gym? I recommend ANYTIME FITNESS. It's on the other end of Buttonwood Park in the Shaw's Supermarket parking lot. They're open 24/7. They typically let you try it for free. The facility is always clean with a welcoming staff on weekdays during regular business hours.

The SpaceThomas B. Tripp Carriage Hous(URL HIDDEN) c. 1909 ~ Mission Style This carriage house was originally part of the adjacent property to the east facing County Street. The large Queen Anne was built by Marcia Parker on land which belonged to the estate of Benjamin Cummings. After Parker’s death, the property was sold to Thomas B. Tripp, who was a real estate mogul in the city. He needed the outbuilding for his own stable and carriage. The house and carriage house remained in the Tripp family as one property of a large estate. Tripp died in 1912 and the property ownership passed to his widow, Emma, who retained it until her death in 1930. The property was overseen by executor Rodolphus Swan for the next five years. In 1935, the property was acquired by Jacob Genensky, the previous owner of the houses in the Clinton Place cul-de-sac. Genensky, the son of one of the first New Bedford Russian Jews, was trained as a dentist. However, for most of his life he was active in the real estate business started by his father. His wife, Molly Nyma Rubenstein Genensky, was involved numerous civic and Jewish organizations in the city. She received national recognition for enriching Jewish cultural life in the United States. It was under their ownership that the property was divided. In 1968, the carriage house was sold to the School of Design to be used as studio spaces. Swain School was founded in 1881 with a bequest from William W. Swain. He bequeathed his mansion and the greater part of his estate at the corner of Hawthorn and County Streets for the purpose of establishing a school of higher education. At its inception it was called the Swain Free School and was to be open free of all charges to such citizens of New Bedford as are qualified to profit by the instruction. The school originally offered classes in Greek, Latin, mathematics, history, geography, English, art, physics, chemistry, German, French and Italian. Over the years the curriculum changed its focus to fine art and design and the name was change to the Swain School of Design to reflect the change. The School was incorporated in the mid 1980s with the then Southeastern Massachusetts University, now University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth. In 1985, the carriage house was sold to individuals to be used as a private residence. It has continued to be used as a residence under a variety of owners. This cement stucco building originally had three doors for vehicles which now have sets of French doors. Typical elements of this mission style include the large bracketed eaves with Roman style windows on the front facade and arched side widows create a classical and elegant style. The entrance to this home has room for gardens on either side of the walkway with planters in front of the wall. Some of the plants you will see are lilac, hydrangea, ornamental grass, azalea, violets, phlox and bamboo along with boxwood in planters. Guest AccessGuests entrance use french doors at front of carriage house. I don't mind keeping to myself and have daily chores that will still need to be done so I go with the wind The NeighborhoodI love New Bedford because it has hidden treasures for those who love history, architecture, gardening, Antique shopping. New Bedford was the whaling capital of the world in it's young days and we have a wonderful Whaling Museum rich in history, plus the Seamans Bethel, which was was portrayed in the movie Moby Dick. Some streets still have the cobblestones that were laid hundreds of years ago, which leads to my love of rocks because of their diverse beauty and their ability to survive all of us, over and over again. I have transformed a vacant city lot into a beautiful home with a koi pond surrounded by boulders that I had imported :) When I built the house, I found historical leftovers from the granite that was used to build the huge block foundations of many of the buildings here. You will forget you are in the city when you sit in my backyard Getting AroundWe have the New Bedford Airport which has flights to Martha's Vineyard and NantucketI! Plus there is the HIGH SPEED FERRY which also goes there multiple times daily for less money > I am right on the bus route which can take you all over New Bedford and to the North Darthmouth Mall. Plus , if it's one person, I may be available to give some rides. I only have one seat in my van. The back is set up for my service dogs ;) Other Things to NoteThe times they are a changin. This will be a home where you will feel at home, and close to nature. Sitting by the woman made pond, even in the winter is very peaceful . For medical Marijuana patients, this is a much better option than staying at hotels that do not approve yet. . You will be allowed to smoke marijuana only in your room. . No cigarettes at all unless it's outside No children as this is not a child friendly place. I love children but I'm just not set up to host them. I only have one spare room

Interaction with GuestsAs a child my wife grew up seeing it covered in Vines and filled with trash and trees growing through the middle. always known as 'The Vine Building' Growing up always wishing she could purchase it as she had an eye for its potential. After many years away at college and working in interior design and specializing in Restuarant design, she returned to see it finally converted to the Landmark building she knew it could be. It laid dormant for many years until it was bought in 2005, totally stripped but saving all the materials to use throughout the renovation. The building was renovated to house a Restaurant, Cork Wine and Tapas and the Taber convention room on the three lower floors and the amazing 2 story penthouse apartment on top. It won many awards for saving its history. It then became available for purchase in 2010 and a life long dream was complete. We were able to purchase the building and use the apt for our vacations and can now share it with you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do. The NeighborhoodDown the stairs or the private elevator to the downtown city life of New Bedford. Walk to the museums, theatres, ferries, shops bars and restaurants. Other Things to NoteThe most incredible view in New Bedford. Panoramic views from the huge roof deck. Over looking the working harbor and out to the Elisabeth Islands. As well as views from every window
