Other Things to Note20/6/2014:Hi Brigette, Just wanted to pass on our thanks and appreciation for the lovely rental home, we had a great holiday:) Cheers Laura 11/8/2014 Good morning Brigette, I just wanted to say thank-you for the lovely stay that we had at Jacaranda Cottage. From the moment we walked in we knew it was something special! There was milk in the fridge, chocolates on the bench and extremely fluffy towels - all the things that weary travellers need! Not to mention the comfy beds, lovely outdoor area and close proximity to everything. We would most certainly stay here again if we are ever in Brisbane again, which hopefully we will be sooner rather than later! J Robson WA

Our traditional Queenslander home is situated in a beautiful suburb called Hawthorne, very close to the CBD. We live near the Brisbane River so the Citycat ( ast catamaran) is the quickest transport to the city centre. My husband Tony and I live with our students and sometimes other visitors, we have family meals every night and lots of fun. Sometimes we go camping to the beach or to the country side, if convenient you would be very welcome to join us. We have assisted over a hundred people settle into Brisbane on a longer term basis for either relocation for work or study and we can assist if you have a WHVISA . We are happy for you to stay one night or many years. A man from Equador has been living with us for three years and he has just graduated from Griffith university, a Taiwanese girl stayed with us for 5 years!! We also have a French 30 yr old female (WHV) and a German couple living with us, so we have lots of fun. I am at home most of the time so I can assist you with your English and assignments. The environment around our neighborhood is very quiet and safe and there are some great restaurants and cinemas within walking distance. I am very happy to negotiate a different fee for long term guests.

Literally a five minute walk is the City Cat Ferry stop (these are very converted in Brisbane) and are wonderful to take you peacefully into the CBD, while you stand on the back of a high powered Catamaran boat (from 6am til midnight) and take in the sights as you travel the Brisbane River (AKA the River City) There are also lots of other buses that leave from even closer to our location. Next to the City Cat stop are the express buses into the CBD (called 'City Glider') in under ten minutes in peak hour. There are also other buses even closer to our location. If you want to go into the CBD then you can easily get there (to drive in peak hour is 5 minutes) walk in 25 via the river and under the Story Bridge. Or, if you want to enjoy the local attractions, there are certainly plenty of them within a 15 minutes walk. Next to the City Cat stop is Vernon Terrace, which is populated with lots of bars, restaurants, cocktail and beer specialist places, definitely worth a look. At the City Cat stop we then have a River Walk that takes you across the top of the water down to New Farm Park, a beautiful park on the River, home to the fortnightly large Farmers Markets and the PowerHouse which is a funky converted building housing plays, comedy, bands, art, talks and so on. Also, about ten minutes walk from our place we have the brand new Gasworks complex, complete with large Grocery Store, an organic market, chocolate restaurant and great cafes and eateries and worth a mention. From the house in the other direction, we also have the famous James Street within a five minute walk. It is lined with things to see and do, including palace cinema, pizza place, bars, restaurants, clothes stores, boutiques, farmers markets, cafes. Definitely the place to be seen and get seen, Can get quite busy on the weekend and people from Brisbane flock to this area. Not only that, we also have 'The Emporium' which is close to us and is filled with wonderful restaurants of the highest quality and amazing boutiques and stores. You can also walk to Fortitude Valley, which is the night life and weekend market district, which also has China Town Mall where there is amazing Asian Restaurants at good prices. The SpaceThis a unique and beautiful renovated art deco apartment block. It is spacious and comfortable with a separate lounge and dining room (with a beautiful wooden fireplace), kitchen, bathroom and a large bedroom that opens up onto the back veranda. Throughout the apartment are unique art deco light fittings made specifically for the building. There is also plenty of storage with built in cupboards. The kitchen is compact and includes everything you need. As I am travelling for five months there will be some foodstuffs left in the kitchen, particularly herbs and spices plus pulses and grains. You are more than welcome to use whatever there is in the kitchen cupboards, as well as take advantage of the herb garden in the courtyard. All linen is provided - sheets, towels, dooners, blankets, tablecloths and tea towels. There is a top loader washing machine on the back veranda plus a plasma TV, DVD and CD player in the lounge room. Outside the apartment is a lovely courtyard filled with hanging plants, pots filled with flowers and a herb garden. You are more than welcome to dine outside at the communal dining table or simply take in the beautiful garden. Beside the courtyard is the Summer House that is also available for guests. Guest AccessThe apartment is located on the ground floor with two points of entry - either from Elystan Street through a security locked foyer, or at the back of the building via the courtyard.
