Guests have access to over 20 km of trails in a magical old-growth Acadian forest, 4 acres of permaculture gardens, canoeing, sauna, and on-site hosts. As an overnight accommodation it can sleep between 17 to 20 people in its private apartment quadrants and loft spaces, which radiate out from the communal center living room and kachlofen that heats the building in cooler months alongside the in-floor radiant heating from solar power. To the East of the common-area is a beautiful, bright gathering space with Windhorse Wood floors that can comfortably accommodate 30 people. It can be used for discussion, yoga, meditation, dancing and more. Adjacent to this space is a galley-style kitchen, appropriate for food preparation for large groups, and a small dining area that can accommodate about 15 people. For larger dining groups, The Pavilion is an elegant timber-frame and cob building next to Juniper Lodge. The SpaceThe chance to get away from it all, without having to "rough it", is offered by our small cabin, built in 2002, with pine from Michelle & Chris Bruhm's Mill - just down the Cornwall Road. Guest AccessOur property is about 3 1/2 acres, with 350 feet of water-frontage. The south-west exposure provides gorgeous sunsets to enjoy from the decks, dock or the hammock. Our cabin has one main room, with futon, table, chairs, and kitchenette. The small bedroom with lake-view, has a comfortable queen-size bed. The 3-piece bathroom, includes a shower, and heated tile floor. All rooms have their own electric heat, and both the main room and the bedroom have large ceiling fans. The kitchen has a coffee maker, kettle, microwave, toaster, toaster-oven, fridge and two-burner portable cooking range. There is no dishwasher or full stove/oven. The propane BBQ is new this season, and has a side burner, making outdoor cooking more convenient. Also available are a Weber charcoal BBQ and an outdoor propane burner, with pot and utensils for corn/lobster boils. A starter-supply of teas, coffee, milk, sugar and a few goodies will greet your arrival. Alert - you're in the country! The nearest stores are a 20 minute drive away in New Germany, Barss Corner or Mahone Bay. If you prefer to eat out, there are dozens of choices - but once again, it's a 20-30 minute drive! We'll provide you with a list of our favourites. Extra bedding is available, so the double futon can accommodate children, but the cottage is really not appropriate for four adults. There's a Sony stereo, some music, books and games for your indoor enjoyment. There's also a SONY Bluetooth Dream Machine, which is handy if you've brought along your own digital music collection. The wireless internet can be problematic at times; it's "country" internet. We have the latest Xplornet satellite internet, and the router is in our own house, next door. Weather and usage complications have a bearing on the signal. So if fast, 24-7 connectivity is important - this will be a definite concern. (Of course, some guests enjoy a little time "off the grid" and you can always resort to the Internet cafes in nearby communities.) Many of our guests have commented on the warm, clear swimming which can be enjoyed at Church Lake. We have a 15-foot canoe and a small kayak plus an assortment of life jackets for your water enjoyment. We've just purchased a Coleman screen house (11 ft x 11 ft) which will provide refuge on days when you'd like to be outside, but the mosquitos happen to be particularly "friendly"! There's a large deck off the cabin, and another lakeside deck which contains a new, propane campfire pit. This is an easy, safer alternative to our old traditional pit. This year, off the campfire deck, we've constructed a new cedar dock - for the privacy and exclusive use of our Airbnb guests. And if we're travelling, you're certainly welcome to use our old dock, too. It's a few hundred feet further along the lake path, and there are plenty of deck chairs at both locations. Interaction with GuestsThe cottage keys will be in a lock box, and you'll have the combination well in advance of your arrival. Our philosophy is to respect your privacy, so you'll be able to enjoy our property. But please know - if you need something, there's help. Our own house is next door, and so if we're on-site, that's easy. If we happen to be travelling during your visit, our property managers, Kathy and Janet will be available to assist you, as needed. You'll have their cell phone numbers in advance, and they're also in the guest binder. By the way, Kathy's husband, Tim, offers an array of adventure, fishing and hiking tours, which may be of interest to you. You'll have their website address before you arrive, in case you'd like to contact him. The NeighborhoodChurch Lake is located 23 km inland from Mahone Bay, on Nova Scotia's beautiful south shore, 107 kms from Halifax, 121 kms from the Halifax airport. Ferries from Portland, Maine land in Yarmouth - (236 km). Nearby communities include Lunenburg - a UNESCO World Heritage site (32 km). There are lots of local attractions and beaches, and we'll email you details prior to your visit. For golfers, there are three courses within a 3/4 hour drive, and for hikers, we're about an hour away from the Keji National Park. Dozens of casual and fine-dining spots are within a 30 minute drive, and some of our favourites are highlighted in the guest binder, together with the details on a variety of local attractions and museums. Getting AroundThe location requires you to provide your own means of transportation, as public transit options are limited / costly. Other Things to NoteWhile we've enjoyed being Airbnb guests, we're fairly new to hosting. We've tried hard to prepare our property for a great guest experience, and have been rewarded with very positive initial feedback. We'd be most grateful to have your suggestions on ways to improve.

The SpaceThis cabin is perfect for those looking for peace and quiet and an escape from the rat-race. It provides the perfect retreat. Please note that this is cabin living and whilst there are 4 very comfortable beds and a shower room, the cooking facilities are limited to a small kitchenette with fridge, microwave, electric counter-top stove and micro-cooker. There is no dishwasher or washing/drying machine. Please also note that it is possible to pick up WIFI from the router in the main house, but the signal is patchy and may not work in the cabin ... this is meant to be somewhere to 'get away from it all'!! Please also note that whilst one bedroom is on the ground floor and is suitable for everyone, the other bunk-bedroom is on a mezzanine level which is up some very narrow wooden stairs. This makes an excellent and exciting sleeping area for older children and young adults, but would not be suitable for very young children, older adults or anyone with limited mobility. Guest AccessYou can arrive at any time of the day (no need to call ahead). On arrival, you will collect the keys to the cabin from the key-safe outside. Full details about the cabin will be sent once you have booked and the key-safe code will be sent to you 5 days before you arrive. Interaction with GuestsThe cabin sits in the grounds of our Haskap Orchard, which is a working berry farm. The cabin is near our Farmhouse which we may or may not be staying in at the time. If we are home we are very happy to help in what ever way is needed, but our intention is to allow guests their own privacy to come and go as they please. The NeighborhoodThe area of Baker Settlement is just inland from Bridgewater in South Shore, Nova Scotia. The farm is set back away from any main roads and is quiet and peaceful. You can reach local attractions such as Mahone Bay's beautiful shops and restaurants and the World Heritage Site at Lunenburg, within 30 minutes. You can also walk around the Haskap Orchard and there are some beautiful cut trails around our forest. Getting AroundYou will need a car to reach the cabin and from then on to get backwards and forwards from the shops and local attractions. Other Things to NoteFind out more about The Haskap Berry and our farm by searching for our website; 'Western Branch Haskap Orchards'.

You can also enjoy watching the wildlife from the deck, use the paddleboat or canoe to explore the lake and nearby island, take advantage of the ATV/snowmobile trails, and enjoy the cozy wood stove in the winter. My cottage is great for couples and families (with kids), and a crib is available.

Guests have access to 21km of trails in a magical old growth acadian forest, 4 acres of permaculture gardens, canoeing, on-site hosts. Juniper Lodge is the primary facility for groups at Windhorse Farm. It sits on a hill overlooking the farm, as a kind of gateway to the forest. The kitchen is fully stocked: dishes & utensils, kettle, coffee-maker. Linens and towels are provided. This facility is on the grounds of Windhorse Farm, a sustainably managed 200-acre old-growth Acadian forest with 21 km of trails, a wood product business, and a 4-acre organic permaculture garden.
