The SpaceThe chance to get away from it all, without having to "rough it", is offered by our small cabin, built in 2002, with pine from Michelle & Chris Bruhm's Mill - just down the Cornwall Road. Guest AccessOur property is about 3 1/2 acres, with 350 feet of water-frontage. The south-west exposure provides gorgeous sunsets to enjoy from the decks, dock or the hammock.
Our cabin has one main room, with futon, table, chairs, and kitchenette. The small bedroom with lake-view, has a comfortable queen-size bed. The 3-piece bathroom, includes a shower, and heated tile floor. All rooms have their own electric heat, and both the main room and the bedroom have large ceiling fans.
The kitchen has a coffee maker, kettle, microwave, toaster, toaster-oven, fridge and two-burner portable cooking range. There is no dishwasher or full stove/oven.
The propane BBQ is new this season, and has a side burner, making outdoor cooking more convenient. Also available are a Weber charcoal BBQ and an outdoor propane burner, with pot and utensils for corn/lobster boils.
A starter-supply of teas, coffee, milk, sugar and a few goodies will greet your arrival. Alert - you're in the country! The nearest stores are a 20 minute drive away in New Germany, Barss Corner or Mahone Bay. If you prefer to eat out, there are dozens of choices - but once again, it's a 20-30 minute drive! We'll provide you with a list of our favourites.
Extra bedding is available, so the double futon can accommodate children, but the cottage is really not appropriate for four adults.
There's a Sony stereo, some music, books and games for your indoor enjoyment. There's also a SONY Bluetooth Dream Machine, which is handy if you've brought along your own digital music collection.
The wireless internet can be problematic at times; it's "country" internet. We have the latest Xplornet satellite internet, and the router is in our own house, next door. Weather and usage complications have a bearing on the signal. So if fast, 24-7 connectivity is important - this will be a definite concern. (Of course, some guests enjoy a little time "off the grid" and you can always resort to the Internet cafes in nearby communities.)
Many of our guests have commented on the warm, clear swimming which can be enjoyed at Church Lake. We have a 15-foot canoe and a small kayak plus an assortment of life jackets for your water enjoyment.
We've just purchased a Coleman screen house (11 ft x 11 ft) which will provide refuge on days when you'd like to be outside, but the mosquitos happen to be particularly "friendly"!
There's a large deck off the cabin, and another lakeside deck which contains a new, propane campfire pit. This is an easy, safer alternative to our old traditional pit.
This year, off the campfire deck, we've constructed a new cedar dock - for the privacy and exclusive use of our Airbnb guests. And if we're travelling, you're certainly welcome to use our old dock, too. It's a few hundred feet further along the lake path, and there are plenty of deck chairs at both locations. Interaction with GuestsThe cottage keys will be in a lock box, and you'll have the combination well in advance of your arrival.
Our philosophy is to respect your privacy, so you'll be able to enjoy our property. But please know - if you need something, there's help. Our own house is next door, and so if we're on-site, that's easy. If we happen to be travelling during your visit, our property managers, Kathy and Janet will be available to assist you, as needed. You'll have their cell phone numbers in advance, and they're also in the guest binder.
By the way, Kathy's husband, Tim, offers an array of adventure, fishing and hiking tours, which may be of interest to you. You'll have their website address before you arrive, in case you'd like to contact him. The NeighborhoodChurch Lake is located 23 km inland from Mahone Bay, on Nova Scotia's beautiful south shore, 107 kms from Halifax, 121 kms from the Halifax airport. Ferries from Portland, Maine land in Yarmouth - (236 km).
Nearby communities include Lunenburg - a UNESCO World Heritage site (32 km).
There are lots of local attractions and beaches, and we'll email you details prior to your visit. For golfers, there are three courses within a 3/4 hour drive, and for hikers, we're about an hour away from the Keji National Park.
Dozens of casual and fine-dining spots are within a 30 minute drive, and some of our favourites are highlighted in the guest binder, together with the details on a variety of local attractions and museums. Getting AroundThe location requires you to provide your own means of transportation, as public transit options are limited / costly. Other Things to NoteWhile we've enjoyed being Airbnb guests, we're fairly new to hosting. We've tried hard to prepare our property for a great guest experience, and have been rewarded with very positive initial feedback. We'd be most grateful to have your suggestions on ways to improve.
