The SpaceThe Gilbert Apartments are carved out of a 19th-century Victorian mansion whose common spaces feature original parquet flooring, polished brick fireplaces, wide staircases: the great smell, look, and feel of historic New London. Generous welcoming areas separate the three-to-four apartments per floor, with residents as quiet as they are friendly (seldom encountered by most guests). Paintings, plants, and wooden sculpture line the former parlor and dining spaces and morning sun bathes both these and the wood-trimmed one-bedroom. This unique offering packs in the personality per square foot — perfect fit for a Southern New England weekend getaway! Guest AccessFont and back code-protected entries on first-floor. Second and third-floor common spaces available for reading and fraternizing. Coin-op washer and dryer in basement. Biiiig back yard and sizable front for sunbathing, BBQ, or ball, and great, safe neighborhood for running or walking. Copious on-street parking. Interaction with GuestsMy default is to respect guest privacy, so code and key exchanges are detailed once booked with questions fielded via email/text/AirBnB app. 'Turrets' is accessible at all hours and I or a proxy can be onsite for guest needs. The NeighborhoodConnecticut's bucolic best, New London is exactly halfway between Boston and NYC (100 miles each way). The house is located in the finer part of the former Whaling capital, on a hilltop full of charming Victorians, big lots, and established residents. It is across from the carriage house of another converted mansion, now a tree-lined transitional care facility, and very near Connecticut College, United States Coast Guard Academy, and Arboretum hosting outdoor Shakespeare in the summer. Getting AroundLike most of CT, one needs a car, but highway is immediately accessible. New London is a rail, bus, and ferry hub, and has shuttles leaving regularly for both casinos. Other Things to NoteBikes, skateboards, rollerblades, available for use upon request :D !

Guest AccessWIFI and Off street parking, as well as a private bathroom. Interaction with GuestsWe live in the house as well and work some from home, so we are here a lot of the time. But we are not always available and some guests have stayed without meeting us. We host regularly and love meeting new people. But if for some reason we will not be able to receive you personally, we will make arrangements to leave a key and stay in touch. The NeighborhoodWe are about 2 blocks from the downtown restaurant, nightlife, shopping and arts district and only about 4 blocks from the public transportation hub. The room is on the side of the house away from the street and is quieter. Getting AroundTrain, Ferry and Bus Other Things to NoteThis is an older home, built in 1840. Some folks have trouble with the steep stairs and lack of central air, so I wouldn't recommend it for folks with mobility issues or who can't abide heat in the summer. There is an Air Conditioner in the bedroom, as well as ceiling and standing fans available. The bathroom is mostly private but occasionally shared if we have family/friends in another spare room visiting.
