The SpaceListen to the river at night. 1830's charming village house just 10 minutes from Great Barrington, MA. Explore the beauty, serenity and cultural attractions of the Berkshires: Tanglewood, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Kripalu, Williamstown Theatre, The Clark Museum, Mass MOCA, Jacobs Pillow, The Rockwell Museum and Stockbridge village. There are many local crafts and music festivals, weekly farmer's markets, terrific shopping and highly rated restaurants just about everywhere in Berkshire County. On Sundays, walk or drive 3 miles to Roadside Store, owned and operated by Gould Farm. Buy the NY Times, Boston Globe, or a local paper and order a country breakfast made with fresh breads, eggs and more products grown right on the farm. Meet local people and others visiting the area, as meals are served "country style." After, hike part of the AppalachianTrail on Tyringham Cobble, and take a dip in a nearby pond owned by the Berkshire Natural Resources Council. You might check out yoga classes outside at Ashintully Gardens on a return trip to Tyringham. Throughout your stay enjoy waterfalls,(Mill River, MA) mountain hiking, including the Appalachian Trail, access to fresh water lakes and state forests. Great Barrington has several indoor spas and recreation centers as well as a terrific bike shop that organizes local rides, such as Bike N Fly in August, a beautiful and challenging tour of just over 50 miles on country roads. The house in the village offers simple comfort and eclectic decor. Brightly painted and furnished with some antiques and contemporary furniture, it has a sunny screened porch, facing east, small organic garden, and a clothes line for drying your clothes in the fresh air. A river nearby is home to several bald eagles and attracts local fishermen. Although no bikes are provided, bring yours and cycle in any direction on country roads. Pack a lunch and explore antique shops, local historic houses and museums that dot the Berkshires. Whether you want to fill your vacation with cultural events or just relax, this house provides easy, comfortable, convenient living. Hartford and Albany airports are just under an hour away. Please note that during April and July of 2016 I am particularly interested in exchanging homes/apartments with other airbnb members living in San Francisco or north of Golden Gate Bridge. Interaction with GuestsI like to meet my guests when they arrive and/or leave. Because I work in Boston, this is not always possible. However, talking on the phone before the reservation is confirmed is essential. The NeighborhoodThe backyard small garden and the front porch are great places to simply relax, share a meal, and let the world go by. The house is so convenient to everything in the southern Berkshires and is not that far from Boston or NYC. (Take the train to New York, drive or take a bus to Boston) Previous guests have written reviews on another website which include accounts of where they traveled and what they did from the house and surrounding areas. All were pleased. Other Things to NoteThis is a home, very casual, yet carefully restored. It has quirky conveniences, such as a number of ways to make a cup of coffee, and everything is in good working order, given the age of the house.

The SpaceMy sweet turn of the century cottage is located on 2 acres in the village of Mill River, MA. This is truly the best of both worlds - you get the quiet seclusion of a house nestled in the woods, across from the Konkopot River, with accessibility to everything the Berkshires has to offer. The village of New Marlborough (of which Mill River is part of) is tiny and picturesque, but it offers 3 exceptional restaurants (The Inn on the Green, Southfield Store, and Gedney Farm), a well stocked general store, and many gorgeous and public natural wonders (Umpachene Falls, Campbell Falls, Questing, Dry Hill Reservation). 10 minutes to Great Barrington, 20 minutes to Infinity Hall in Norfolk,CT, 30 minutes to Tanglewood. Perfect accommodations if you need a place to stay when attending a wedding or event at Gedney Farm (2 miles down the road). Bedrooms are beautifully furnished - one with 2 twin beds and one with an antique double bed, both with ceiling fans, plus a sofa bed for one in the downstairs parlour. Although it is not air-conditioned, the floor to ceiling windows make for wonderful cross ventilation. ONE full bath on FIRST FLOOR (for those with accessibility issues with this "quirk" of an older home, please take note), fully equipped kitchen with Viking stove and Miele dishwasher, formal dining room, parlour with bay window. During the spring and summer, a spacious screened porch is perfect for dining and relaxing, as well as herb and vegetable gardens for the ultimate in locavore harvesting. A charcoal barbecue is available for use as well. Wireless internet (password upon request), Direct TV with HBO. Please view the pictures of the cottage and property - words cannot do it justice! PLEASE NOTE: Unless you have AT&T, there is no cell service at the house and is spotty in the Berkshires in general. Guests are welcome to make and receive calls on the landline and voicemail password can be given upon request. If you need a house very cool and air conditioned in the summer, or very warm in the winter (like 80 degrees), then this is probably not the house for you. I only accept reservations from people with completed profiles, and there is a three night minimum for the holiday weekends of Memorial Day , July 4th and Labor day. Guest AccessVegetable and herb garden, a well stocked kitchen with lots of spices and high quality olive oils and vinegars, as well as other seasonings. Interaction with GuestsWhen I rent the house out, I sometimes go away for the weekend, or I stay at my parent's house which has very limited cell service (I provide you with their number). There has never been a catastrophe, but please bear in mind that sometimes I will not be able to get back to you immediately, although I am careful to check my phone when I have guests staying at the house. The NeighborhoodNeighbors are very friendly, willing to help a hand or give advice if needed, but not intrusive. It's a place where "time stands still"- indeed, at the general store, you will find pictures of the center of town that look the same except for the size of the trees. Due to some very stringent zoning ordinances, you won't find condos ever cropping up. If you stay here and like Mill River, I can recommend it to any potential home buyer (I have been here 17 years). Getting AroundNo way.

My sweet turn of the century cottage is located on 2 acres in the village of Mill River, MA.
