The SpaceListen to the river at night.
1830's charming village house just 10 minutes from Great Barrington, MA. Explore the beauty, serenity and cultural attractions of the Berkshires: Tanglewood, Berkshire Theatre Festival, Kripalu, Williamstown Theatre, The Clark Museum, Mass MOCA, Jacobs Pillow, The Rockwell Museum and Stockbridge village. There are many local crafts and music festivals, weekly farmer's markets, terrific shopping and highly rated restaurants just about everywhere in Berkshire County.
On Sundays, walk or drive 3 miles to Roadside Store, owned and operated by Gould Farm. Buy the NY Times, Boston Globe, or a local paper and order a country breakfast made with fresh breads, eggs and more products grown right on the farm. Meet local people and others visiting the area, as meals are served "country style." After, hike part of the AppalachianTrail on Tyringham Cobble, and take a dip in a nearby pond owned by the Berkshire Natural Resources Council. You might check out yoga classes outside at Ashintully Gardens on a return trip to Tyringham. Throughout your stay enjoy waterfalls,(Mill River, MA) mountain hiking, including the Appalachian Trail, access to fresh water lakes and state forests. Great Barrington has several indoor spas and recreation centers as well as a terrific bike shop that organizes local rides, such as Bike N Fly in August, a beautiful and challenging tour of just over 50 miles on country roads.
The house in the village offers simple comfort and eclectic decor. Brightly painted and furnished with some antiques and contemporary furniture, it has a sunny screened porch, facing east, small organic garden, and a clothes line for drying your clothes in the fresh air. A river nearby is home to several bald eagles and attracts local fishermen. Although no bikes are provided, bring yours and cycle in any direction on country roads. Pack a lunch and explore antique shops, local historic houses and museums that dot the Berkshires. Whether you want to fill your vacation with cultural events or just relax, this house provides easy, comfortable, convenient living. Hartford and Albany airports are just under an hour away. Please note that during April and July of 2016 I am particularly interested in exchanging homes/apartments with other airbnb members living in San Francisco or north of Golden Gate Bridge. Interaction with GuestsI like to meet my guests when they arrive and/or leave. Because I work in Boston, this is not always possible. However, talking on the phone before the reservation is confirmed is essential. The NeighborhoodThe backyard small garden and the front porch are great places to simply relax, share a meal, and let the world go by. The house is so convenient to everything in the southern Berkshires and is not that far from Boston or NYC. (Take the train to New York, drive or take a bus to Boston) Previous guests have written reviews on another website which include accounts of where they traveled and what they did from the house and surrounding areas. All were pleased. Other Things to NoteThis is a home, very casual, yet carefully restored. It has quirky conveniences, such as a number of ways to make a cup of coffee, and everything is in good working order, given the age of the house.
