The SpaceThis room is in a restored historic house on a quiet one way street in downtown Newburgh. We are steps away from Washington's Headquarters, the Newburgh Brewery and Taproom, Liberty Street Cafes, Orange County Community College-Newburgh Campus, Newburgh Library, Newburgh City Hall, riverfront restaurants, Downing Film Center and Wherehouse Restaurant- and close to Mount St. Mary's College. It is a short walk to the ferry to the Beacon train station(runs only on weekdays during morning and evening rush hours). The second floor room has a queen-size bed with a firm premium mattress, is fully furnished with a desk and dresser, and it has a nice size closet. The room has two large windows facing north and west and a large west-facing window in the bathroom. Continental breakfast served in our elegant dining room- or seasonally in the garden if you wish. Wi-fi included- there is no TV anywhere in the house. The property has plenty of off-street parking. We are very accommodating hosts and are familiar with all the local restaurants, sites and events. Children: There is no room for any extra bedding for a child. The room holds two people maximum- including a child. Please be aware that we will only accept a child if there is only one adult, that the child will sleep on the same bed and that we are assured that the child will be watched at all times. It is not a child-friendly environment as we have delicate glassware and antiques scattered around the house. *In September and October we require a two night minimum stay that includes a Saturday booking. Guest AccessWith the room you pretty much have the run of the second floor. We have a wonderfully-furnished parlor with plenty of comfortable seating and a large dining room that we rarely use ourselves. We also have a well-tended garden with a shaded sitting area. Interaction with GuestsWe are always around as this is our home and our business is on the first floor. We enjoy meeting new people and introducing them to our city. We respect your privacy, but we are readily available if you need us. The NeighborhoodThe City of Newburgh is a friendly place. We are in the center of downtown in the historic district- the 2nd largest in New York State. Washington's Headquarters- where he spent the last two years of the Revolutionary War and gave out the first Purple Heart- is right next door to us. The waterfront and several other attractions are within walking distance. The community is diverse. The Fire and Police Departments are on the same block. There are some forlorn looking areas a few blocks away, but our block is one of the best in the city and there has been a large influx of restoration-minded newcomers who have bought everything around us. Improvements are happening rapidly. Getting AroundIf you are arriving on Metro-North Hudson Line at the Beacon train station on a weekday early in the morning or in the evening there's a ferry that's a 10minute ride to the Newburgh waterfront. We are a couple of blocks up the hill from the dock. Please let us know how you will be traveling so we can suggest the best options to get to us. Other Things to Note*In September and October we require a two night minimum stay that includes a Saturday bookings. We have two cats that are kept in a closed room on the third floor- they are not permitted to wander the house. We clean thoroughly every day. However, if you're chronically allergic to cats, this still might be an issue. We will not allow pets- please don't ask. We are a vegan-friendly household. We are also environmentally aware- no harsh cleaning chemicals(including chlorine bleach) are used. We recycle everything we can and all our paper products are Seventh Generation.

The SpaceJean's Hudson River Penthouse is located in a Victorian Building on Grand St in the historic mansion district of Newburgh NY. It is only available as a furnished rental for a minimum of 30 DAYS. Please ask about renting it month to month for a longer period. The ceilings are high which adds a gracious feeling of space and the living space is loft-like with a sunlit windowed 25 ft living space overlooking the Hudson River with an antique rocking chair and seating. This flows into the large dining room/Kitchen loft-like room area--perfect for spreading out-there is formal dining room furniture. There is a traditional gas-fired fireplace currently being modernized. It has three bedrooms: a master double with a brand new mattress in a mahogany antique frame, located along the back of the building, another double bedroom also with a brand new mattress without a door (curtain for the open arch) which is currently used as a working artist's studio overlooking a charming street view in the front , and then one bedroom which is set up with a single Civil War era sleigh bed with comfy pillows perfect for reading also located along the back of the building facing West which is sort of a wonderful closet as well- some couples have shared this but as one previous occupant noted "we really really like each other"! (CURRENTLY THIS BEDROOM IS CLOSED FOR RENOVATION AND STORAGE__THE CIVIL WAR SINGLE BED IS BEING USED IN THE LIVING ROOM _MADE UP AS A DAY BED. ) The original wood floors throughout have a steep pitch in places. ALL BED and BATH LINENS ARE LAUNDERED 100% for each new guest-- cleaning is up to you during your visit. I see I got dinged for cleanliness but you are your own maid during your visit so rate yourself for cleanliness!Perhaps that was for the building as a whole-- we are renovating and so things don't shine like they are new but we are shabby chic. Also Summer visitors must use our column fans and portable air conditioner and the River cross breeze as we do not provide central air conditioning. A former full-time tenant advised that he rarely used the air conditioning unit in the bedroom but you are welcome to use it during your stay. All proceeds from AirBnb help us in the project of restoration of the 277 Grand St building-hopefully these will help us acquire central heat and air-conditioning for next year. OUR DECORATION STYLE IS CLUTTERED. DON"T COME IF YOU DON"T LIKE ANTIQUES AND A NON-MOTEL HOTEL STYLE DECOR. There are vases, plates, plants, books, candles, and art. Some people think that is clutter. Those are things I like because they belonged to my mother, Jean. It is NOT a miminalist place. We are a traditional place which is lived in when it is not being used by Air bnb members. That makes it homey. Please don't review us and say that our rooms are cluttered. They aren't. We like that way of decorating. Look at the IKEA catalog. Real people live with stuff. Guest AccessThere is access to a small basic kitchen with an apartment-sized new gas oven, new frig/freezer, coffee maker and a dining room with a four chairs where you may take a meal or enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. There is a free to residents new washer/dryer downstairs on the street level for longer stays. WIFI and Television is available for extended visits. This is not a luxury building with a doorman, dishwasher, microwave, marble slab island--this is a place to escape from all that. Interaction with GuestsI will meet you at the Beacon Station Metro North Train or at DIA Beacon if you wish. Or, meet you at the door of the building when you arrive via $15 taxi from Beacon Station, or $1 ferry from Beacon Train Station. All local taxis in City of Newburgh are $5. flat rate to restaurants and waterfront or mall type stores out in the Town of Newburgh. There is a local bus that operates throughout Newburgh which stops right in front of our building. Parking is very available at all times and safe right in front steps away from the front entrance. A few exceptions are snow emergencies in which during the day, no parking because the snowplows are cleaning streets or on Thursdays we have to move cars to the opposite side of the street. I will check in with you via text as needed and make suggestions in regard to dining or activities upon your request. Only one front door key will be provided to guests. Any non-returned keys will trigger a lock changing fee for the actual costs and I assure you that you will not want to pay for the special security landlord system lock and keys we have. QUINN who wrote the only negative review on here--immediately cancelled his Airbnb account under his real name because he did not want to be responsible for his review. What we consider "criminal behavior" in Newburgh NY is not even illegal in several other states-Colorado, Nevada, (URL HIDDEN) lighten up. The neighborhood is urban. The NeighborhoodJean's Hudson River Penthouse is located in The Artists and Writers Building in the historical mansion neighborhood of the historic City of Newburgh on Grand Street. It is a walkable neighborhood with a public library only 2 blocks away. Radio taxis are $5 anywhere in the City. Many residents are in the creative arts and the neighborhood has an urban vibe. Some old stories on the internet about crime and gangs are out of date-the neighborhood has always been one of the best though if you want to look for trouble in the area you can find it. The feds cleaned up the drugs several years ago and a new city manager is making huge quality of life progress. The bad people have been locked up and the perception is behind the reality in this safe area. Film crews are busy filming. There is diversity in the neighborhood with both wealthy and poor in proximity. It is an urban but friendly small town.Very Tennessee Williams in its elderly mansions and hard-bitten working class warehouses overlooking the Hudson River. Spend time here and you will fall in love with the city's ability to inspire you with its funky mix of urban, historical , and artistic culture. Getting AroundYes. You may ride a bus from in front of the building. There is free car parking right in front of the building except for snow emergencies but that is manageable too. There is a weekday $1 ferry to and from Metro North at Beacon and 1 hour and change into NY Grand Central Station. There is also an express bus to NYC. Access is easy and many residents commute daily to NYC. It is an affordable alternative to staying in NYC for people who are experienced travelers. Not for your grandmother who usually stays at The Plaza but that said, an extended stay is about what it costs to stay two days in a Times Square tourist hotel. Commute to the city like a native via train. Or, rent a car and do your shopping at Woodbury Common--only 20 minutes away down the NY thruway. Visit historic West Point Military Academy for football or special events. We can suggest visits to local organic farms in Orange County as we are involved with Farm to Table advocacy. Orange County has beautiful local vineyards and farms all over within 45 minute drives--it is one of the breadbaskets of NYC. Take in some outdoor adventure up at New Paltz home of The Gunks for climbing or Minnewaska State Park where you can have a very enjoyable unique walk any time of year and then enjoy the village of New Paltz with it's rail trail and great university town ethnic restaurants. Visit Olana upriver or Woodstock NY or CIA for marvelous food. Other Things to NoteCity of Newburgh has many fun places to enjoy. There is a lovely marina and waterfront on the Hudson River (walkable from Jean's Hudson River Penthouse-two blocks down and a few blocks over) where you may take a ride down the Hudson to Westpoint on a real riverboat -2 hour ride during the May to Nov season. Eat at several excellent restaurants with Hudson River decks. The Downing Film theatre offers new release Independent Films. There is the Two Alices' Cafe on Broadway, George Washington's Headquarters from the Revolutionary War and Park, APG Pilates classes on Sat am on Liberty, Ann Street and Will Teran art galleries and the Newburgh Brewery on Friday and Sat nights. "Last Saturdays" of every month have many special arts events.Take a run over the Newburgh Bridge to see Dia Beacon a major contemporary art museum along with delightful shops and a Sunday farmer's market or bring bikes.Commodore Chocolate manufactures chocolates right on Broadway. The Karpeles Museum on Broadway is free. Fullerton Center for Culture and History is on our block-check out their (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) page.

The SpaceThe 12' x 12' room is in a 1940s Sear Roebuck 4-Square Arts and Crafts Kit House occupied by two gay men and two cats. The room faces the back yard, so it is quiet and cool in the summer (room has a fan and air conditioner). There is a cedar closet and coat closet, chest of drawers and a desk for writing, working on a computer, etc. The walls of the entire house are filled with photographs made by one of the owners and artwork by other photographers and artists. The kitchen opens up to a deck and garden that is surrounded by maples trees offering shaded lounging areas to relax and read in the spring, summer and fall. Internet access is included. Guest AccessGuests have access to the kitchen for cooking if needed, the two bathrooms (one on the second floor and one in the basement) and the living room for relaxing, reading, working. We also have a great deck and garden in the back as well as a covered front porch, which can be used in nice weather. Interaction with GuestsWe will offer you as much information and knowledge about the area as you would like. We want to respect your privacy yet we are available for any questions and inquiries you may have. We also welcome conversations. I do have a home office and occasionally use it during the day on weekdays. You may come and go as you like, but your consideration of the house being used as a work place at times is appreciated. I serve guests breakfast in the morning and am happy to spend that time talking if you have the inclination. We also use the front porch and back deck during nice weather and you are welcome to do so as well. Occasionally we have friends over for dinner and consider that our time. Longer term guests are welcome to utilize the kitchen and at times invite guests to have dinners together. Essentially, we will give you as much privacy or as much interaction as you prefer. We understand that sometimes it is time spent away together for couples and respect your wishes to be alone. The NeighborhoodThe house is situated on a one-block dead-end street in a safe, friendly neighborhood. There is off-street parking available. Getting AroundPublic transportation is minimal (bus and taxi), but we can offer car transport to/from Stewart International Airport, the bus station or the train station in Beacon for a small charge ($5 for the airport or train station) if pre-arranged and possible to schedule.

The SpaceThis classic 1912 foursquare home with original details faces Historic Downing Park just steps away from my front porch. The well maintained park opened in 1892 was designed by noted Central Park architects Vaux and Olmstead. A perfect place for pictures, picnics, jogging, bike riding and communing with nature. Ducks, geese. heron, hawks, turtles and fish make it their home as well. I feel my home is special because it celebrates my love of film. As a film maker who loves sharing my knowledge of classic film I have collected memorabilia, original costume sketches and personally owned items from film icons. If time allows this friendly host will even share a classic film on a custom 7 ft. by 5 ft. screen. Newburgh is a great city to explore. It houses the 2nd largest historic district in the state and one can walk through 4 centuries of diverse architecture. Artists like myself are moving here and lovingly restoring historic riverfront homes. A great place to visit and or make home just 50 miles North of NYC. Visiting Newburgh will guarantee you make and find new friends. Guest AccessTwo bedrooms available, private bath, back yard patio with hot tub, back porch and dinning room for meals. With your hosts approval we are now happy to offer lite cooking on the premises to make your stay feel more like home! Microwave also available for those on the go... Private off street parking. Please note in Sept. and Oct. we require a two night minimum stay that include Saturday bookings. Interaction with GuestsI am familiar with the cities historic sites, entertainments and good eating. If you are traveling from NYC without a car I can arrange to collect you at the Metro North Beacon station with proper notice. I enjoy sharing coffee/tea in the morning or a specialty host cocktail in the afternoon with my guests if that appeals to them! The NeighborhoodOur strip of turn of the century homes facing Downing Park was actually developed by a pioneering woman named Mary Townsend. Mary's father was the city of Newburgh's Mayor before the first world war when she developed this beautiful block of homes. To insure quality built homes on this row no home could be erected below the cost of $2500.00. A considerable amount of money in 1910. Neighbors today are friendly, care for their homes on Downing Park Terrace and the historic park they look at as their front yard. The home which directly faces Downing Park was created in 1898 by the world famous design team of Olmstead and Vaux. Andrew J.Downing considered the father of American landscape and design mentored the famous Vaux and Olmstead duo who designed Central Park in NYC. They designed this park in honor of their mentor Downing at no cost to the city. Keith your host is now making arrangements with our local eateries and bars to provide guests with discounts at participating establishments. Getting AroundWithin the city limits is just a 5 dollar taxi fare. With proper notice Keith can offer both a limo and driver at very affordable rates! Other Things to NoteSatine our resident cat is both friendly and shy...he gets along with everyone and loves watching the birds from his back porch perch. We clean extremely well between all guest visits. Those with allergies please be aware.

The SpaceWe are two artists (a writer and a choreographer) who recently moved from Brooklyn to the vibrant city of Newburgh, on the cusp of its Renaissance. We often travel for work and are opening up our home to guests for short and sometimes longer stays. We love our home and hope you will too! Our home was built in 1935, and has maintained original details (arched doorways, brick fireplace, glass door handles and beautiful hardwood floors). We recently renovated it with care and furnished it with original contemporary art (many of the artists are friends) and mid-century furniture (some of which are family heirlooms). It's an extremely cozy, comfortable, and quiet home with lovely light. It's on a short (one block long), quaint, and family-oriented residential street, whose houses were built at roughly the same time. Kitchen: + stainless steel appliances +fully equipped +dishwasher Dining Room: Herman Miller table, seating 6 Living Room: Working fireplace, which comes handy in the winter! Den: Large flat screened TV Extensive library of DVD's Access to Apple TV and Netflix (with your own account). There is a couch that can fold down into a full sized bed. Bedroom: A calm and comforting oasis Queen-sized bed, sits low to the floor Bathroom: Shower is nice and strong. Towels and toiletries available. The tub does not drain well so there is no access to bath-taking, sorry. Backyard: Sizable, with fence A mudroom in the back of the house and a covered porch in the front. An unfinished basement with a washer and dryer. An unfinished attic that my husband converted into a study/office/library. It's like working in a cabin! Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire house and backyard. Interaction with GuestsWe would love to meet the people staying in our home, but if that is not possible we will be accessible via email and phone and have a representative available for help if needed. The SpaceWe've lived in our new home for 6 months, so this is our first time listing it. It's in Newburgh's stunning historic district, on a street filled with architectural treasures, overlooking the Hudson. We want to match it with someone who's traveling for the holidays and wants a beautiful place in upstate New York - and also loves cats! Our home is a relaxing, sunny, book-filled place, with lots of room for one person, a couple or a small group of friends. The neighborhood is friendly and quiet. The busier parts of the city of Newburgh are a short walk or drive away. Beacon is a 10-minute drive, with Metro-North access, and the ferry to the Beacon train is an 8 minute walk down to the waterfront. Guest AccessYou'll have the whole house: 3 floors over a basement, as well as the garden (though it may be too cold to use it!) Interaction with GuestsWe will be available by phone or email. The NeighborhoodNewburgh is a vibrant small city on the Hudson, with a thriving artistic scene and countless architectural gems (it has the largest historic district of New York State). We moved here from Brooklyn and are proud to call it home. It has gorgeous restaurants, great bars and cafes, craft stores and parks, as well as a friendly neighborhood feel. Plus, the river! It's stunning up here and we think you'll love your holiday stay. Getting AroundThere's parking out front. Alternate parking days are Wed & Thurs. Other Things to NoteWe'll ask you to feed and care for our cat, Max.
