The SpaceCasper's Farm, Private Hotel and Pure Food in Ithaca, NY
Casper's Farm is not the standard, "cookie-cutter" bed & breakfast, impersonal inn or hotel that one might typically encounter, but rather the creation of its owner, Michael Casper, who had the concept after having lived in Haiti in the 1970s. Michael’s friend, French entrepreneur Olivier Coquelin, opened Habitation Leclerc in Martissant, Haiti where it became renowned as one of the best international resorts in the world, catering particularly to the affluent jet set crowd and patrons that included members of the Kennedy family, European nobility, and famous rock stars such as Mick Jagger. Bringing memories of the time he spent there back to America, Michael has been working on this extraordinary Ithaca, NY property for the past 11 years, taking the ambience of Habitation Leclerc and adding his own special twist, such as museum quality treasures from his personal world adventures and travels (i.e., dinosaur skeletons, meteorites, huge mineral specimens, fossils, historical and pre-historical artifacts and surrealist art). The trails, roads, ponds, Tibetan Buddhist Temple, stone circle (with a North stone that weighs over 40 tons) and cliffside views are mind boggling, leaving visitors to wonder,"Where are you, Crocodile Dundee and Indiana Jones?"
For some visitors, the peaceful and tranquil ambiance found on this 115 acre labyrinth is worth more than the rooms ... and the rooms are absolutely extraordinary, each having its own individual character. The food is all home-style vegan and amazing – especially the chef’s secret recipes. Special requests require advance notice. The on-premise, garden grown salads and soups are meals in themselves, and the folks at Casper's Farm try their best to be very accommodating. OUT THE PROPERTY: A 5000 sq ft courtyard that serves as the entrance to a 3000 sq ft, 3 level, 2 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath private Log Home. The logs were hauled down from Vermont and the interior construction is entirely wood, most of which was harvested right here on the land. Adjoining the log residence via courtyard is a private 400sq. ft. Buddhist Temple and the 2000 sq. ft office/maintainence barn. Adjoining the 5 acre Log Home property, situated on 7 acres, is a 2250 sq ft, 3 bedroom, 2 bath modified 30x50 ft barn residence with 24 ft ceilings. The eccentricity of design is reflected in the use of a variety of woods and tiles. Cherry floors and walls, flame maple cabinets, stone platforms and massive white and red pine trees co-mingle with a variety of hard and soft woods throughout this outrageous building. The upper bedroom suite overlooks a 1 acre, 14 ft deep pond area landscaped with a perimeter of tumbled flagstone. The pond is situated within a 50+ acre parcel that has a 20 ft high natural waterfall. Massive stones, some weighing over 40 tons, were located around the country and transported to construct the 101 ft diameter stone circle that overlooks a cliff. This vantage point affords the opportunity to watch magnificent sunsets. On the hilltop overlooking the stone circle, is yet another parcel, with a small 300 sq ft log cabin hand carved by Native Americans set upon a stone base and patio. The views are breathtaking. In its entirety, the property encompasses 115+ acres, tied together by over 5 miles of roads. Presently there are 2 residence houses (one sometimes occupied by the owner), a small cabin, another has an outrageous 11 acre "Camp" (pictured on the slideshow) with a 1500 sq ft. home, out buildings, a tree house and a pond, there is 50+ acres with the pond, waterfall, Stone Circle and a myriad of trails that will remain wild forever.
