The SpaceAntique and contemporary beautifully marry to form a quaint and peaceful space that has it all. From two hundred year old beams and original wide-plank floors to french doors and eclectic, cozy furnishings, this home is packed with history, drenched with light, and awaits with open arms.
The "salt box" portion of the home near the driveway entrance was build in 1820. This side of the house is clearly defined by antique beams, wide-plank boards, plaster walls and ceilings, original doors, staircase, giant fireplace, and unmistakable charm. The original portion of the home contains bedrooms 2 and 3, the upstairs bathroom, original stairway, the guest room with convertible sofa, the formal living room and the dining room. The remainder of the home was an addition from the 90's. Most of this addition was the lucky recipient of wide-plank floors planed from a fallen tree in the back yard. The charm continues. Downstairs, the kitchen pours into a cozy seating area complete with fireplace and 23" hidden TV, as well as an eat-in nook surrounded by french doors. And there you have it. This home is 3,200 square feet of cozy charm.
The kitchen is a wonderful place to cook and enjoy meals, as it gazes out into the vast yard, pond and pool. It's a peaceful place for family to create meals together, casually dine, and curl up in front of a toasty fire. Appliances include a refrigerator, wall oven, electric stove top, microwave, Breville espresso maker, instant coffee maker, single waffle iron, small crock pot and if there's something else you're looking for - just ask! We may have it.
The downstairs bathroom serves general guests, and is the primary bathroom for the guest(s) sleeping in the guest room with the convertible sofa. This bathroom has a cast-iron tub / shower, toilet and sink. In this bathroom closet you will find paper towels, toilet paper, and cleaning products.
This dining room was once a blacksmith shop. Drenched in history, the wide-plank floors and original doors / hardware, surround you for a most cozy meal. The antique table, once a door, comfortably seats 4 upholstered chairs -- 2 more chairs can be pulled up to either end providing a table for 6. This room has a sonos speaker and dimm-able light pendants.
FORMAL LIVING ROOM / PIANO ROOM:
Curl up in front of a roaring fire in this beautiful space. Enjoy the baby grand piano and lush Arhaus sectional, as well as the company you came with. We have intentionally chosen not to install a television in this room. It's such a lovely space for fireside conversation. Floors may be creaky, and you may feel an occasional draft - it comes with the territory of an almost 200 year old house! (Not bad for 200 years!)
The guest room is located off of the dining room. Primarily used as a play room, this room has plush wall to wall carpeting and old-school built-ins. The sofa folds down to become a bed (instructions can be found in the welcome kit). While this may not be the best bed in the house, this lucky inhabitant is closest to the espresso maker come sunrise!
At the top of the original staircase you will arrive at bedroom 2. With 4 windows, all boasting antique seed glass, and a writer's desk, complete with guest access to an iMac, this bedroom welcomes you to slumber on a hand-made platform bed complete with futon mattress. This room will have a clothing rack with wooden hangers for you to use during your stay.
Steps away from bedroom 2 and the upstairs bathroom is Bedroom 3. This bedroom has original wooden beams and plaster walls -- a true historic gem. Antique built-ins house eclectic trinkets and books, which you are encouraged to peruse during your stay. This bed is a queen size mattress and box spring on a basic bed frame, and swivel-arm overhead lights are located beside the bed on either side for late-night reading. We have intentionally left a television out of this room. The sound of late-night crickets, wind, and early morning roosters singing their songs are too beautiful to ignore.
MASTER BEDROOM (ALSO REFERRED TO AS BEDROOM 1)
If you go upstairs, you will find yourself in the master bedroom- open and airy with a proud barrel ceiling and small walk-out patio. The King size platform bed is a West Elm design, complete with crisp clean linens, Arhaus bedside tables, and CB2 overhead reading lamps. You will be provided a clothing rack with wooden hangers for your garments.
The master bath is spacious and refreshing and includes a double vanity, large Jacuzzi tub, shower, and private toilet / bidet room.
Off of the master is a conveniently located laundry room. You are welcome to use these during your stay.
Beautiful, relaxing gunite pool ranges from 4 ft to 8 ft. Pool is not heated, and in the summer averages from 76-80*. All pool equipment and floats are located in garage next to house. We use minimal chlorine treatment in the pool.
We do not recommend swimming in the pond, however it is a wonderful spot to fish. We request that prior to catching, you release the fish back into the pond. This pond is stocked with bass.
BARN: The red barn serves as a storage space and added outdoor space. In the Summer we will have it guest-ready, however, in the colder months it is not ideal for use. You are welcome to explore the barn if you are curious! We do have a very sweet orange cat, Taco (named by our 2 year old son), who lives in the tack room on the end of the barn. He may or may not be there during your stay.
CHICKENS / CHICKEN COUP:
Our 20 chickens will likely lay eggs during your stay, which you are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy! They are kept in the run when we are not home, and tended to by a neighbor each morning and night. Our neighbor will use the entrance on the other side of the property (behind the garage) as not to disturb you.
The garage is where we store pool equipment and toys, sporting equipment and lawn games. You are welcome to enjoy all of these things. We kindly request that you return everything to its original state and please let us know if anything is damaged during use. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use and enjoy a majority of the home, garage, and barn. Two very small areas of the home are deemed owner's quarters - the nursery / master closet, and our private home office. Interaction with GuestsThere will be somebody close by to assist guests with emergent needs. Owners will be available via text or phone 24/7. The NeighborhoodLocated on a scenic road that boasts streams, a small family owned farm, and beautiful woodlands, this home provides the tranquil escape that you are craving. You'll be just a few minutes away from the heart of town, which is home to a handful of great dining experiences and a most friendly community. Hiking trails, markets and other sweet attractions are just a hop skip and jump away. Getting AroundThe nearest train stations are located in Brewster, NY and Bridgeport, CT. We are under 10 minutes from I-84, and under 15 minutes from Route 25.
