The house is private with its own entrances, fully furnished with a complete cooking kitchen, and overlooks the 2-acres of gardens and woods. Sleeping accommodates 4 in one large bedroom with adjacent sunroom/office, one smaller bedroom The kitchen and bathroom are recently updated. Cable television is provided in its own viewing area and high-speed, reliable internet access is available throughout. Parking is ample and convenient to the main entrance. Guest AccessThe house and its patios are totally yours and you share with your host wandering about the gardens, orchard, forest and gazebo. Ample parking is close to your entrance. The main house next to your coach house has a three-season, glassed in living room with skylight ceiling, plants and an oversize fireplace. You are welcome to schedule this for parties and celebrations. Interaction with GuestsYour host is an architect formerly from Chicago who has also lived and taught architecture in Malaysia and Iraq. He practices from his office in the main house. A specialty is restoration, adaptive reuse and design of additions for historic buildings. He's a member of the Southbury Historic Buildings Commission which oversees the Town owned historic's landmark buildings. The NeighborhoodThis little known, under-publicized Village is well preserved and historically important. It has 22 homes dating from 1690 to 1835, two churches from the 1830's, Southbury's first library (1904) and village hall (1893), a country store, and a mill building along the river currently being restored that remains from the days when the town was important for its manufacturing. Southbury's modern shops, restaurants and specialty stores of all types are convenient - a mile or two away on paved roads and there is an unpaved road that serves as a shortcut allowing one to pass through active farm land with cows grazing and barns full of hay. Within ten miles are dozens of thrift shops and vintage stores. The next town, Woodbury, has a significant 17th century house, a house where the Episcopal church of America was formed thus removing King George as head of the church, and an 1830's blacksmith shop which was in use till recent times. Further north are the towns of Roxbury, Washington Depot, and Litchfield - each with its own rich history and visitor attractions. World class musical performances take place summers at the Yale School of Music's summer home in Norfolk and the Annual Jazz Festival held in Litchfield. Southbury and the village of South Britain are remarkable for their history: General Rochambeau camped here in 1782 while engineers found ways of crossing the Housatonic River with the army's cannon on their way to join Washington's army near New York. Southbury is the only town in the US that threw out the Nazis who in 1938 were trying to build their 23rd German Bund Camp which were used to indoctrinate German-Americans. Getting AroundThe house is located 1 mile north of I-84's South Britain exit 14, one-and-a-quarter hours from midtown NYC by car on expressways. The Town of Southbury is served by regularly scheduled Peter Pan buses from NYC and pick ups can be arranged at the bus station. Metro North trains stop at Brewster, NY 25 minutes away. Rental cars, bikes and horses are available. Other Things to NoteCTThere are few if any accommodations of this quality less than 90 minutes of NYC with the full attractions of hills, farms and country living, yet only minutes from consignment and antique stores, thrift shops, flea markets, farmers' markets, and trails for hiking and cycling.

The SpaceWe are totally secluded and private. Most people have no idea the guesthouse space even exists! Guest AccessIn the summer guests may have access to the pool Interaction with GuestsI like to give all the privacy you need. We like to have bonfires at night and BBQ, drink wine or beer on the porch and will always invite our guests to join. I am available all the time for ANY questions/concerns. I rely on you to make contact once you are here-- for I do not want to disturb you. The NeighborhoodNewtown and the surrounding area is just beautiful countryside. Lots of walking/hiking and parks. Great drives. Getting AroundNo public transportation. You will definitely need a car. (In the winter, you should have a 4WD because my driveway is long and can be slippery if there is snow & ice.) I am happy to bring you to the train if you want to day trip to New York City. Other Things to Note1-There is no TV in the guesthouse. We don't even have one in our home. There is an ethernet cable & wifi. You can stream. BUT **PLEASE NOTE:** Wifi can be sketchy at times. It is boosted off my modem in the house. If you must be plugged in with lots of devices, this place is NOT for you. Be FOREWARNED. Try to unplug! 2-In the winter months, the easiest access to the guesthouse is through the garage/barn and not through the back. I try to keep on top of the snow, but if you are so inclined to shovel a path, there are shovels in the garage!

(URL HIDDEN) Guest AccessWasher and Dryer, parking space in garage. Interaction with GuestsWe can't meet with guests, as we live out of town. We have a caretaker who can provide you with information about the place and Newtown in general. The NeighborhoodI love that we can walk to just about everything. This cost is to be paid at the time of check out. Children under 5 years and pets need to be identified and approved for their stay. The coach house is a part of the original house built in 1795 on three-acres at the very heart of the historic village of South Britain with its 22 historic houses, a few from the 17th century. Across the street from the house is the Congregational Church founded in 1725 and, after a fire, rebuilt in 1835. We have Southbury's first Village Hall (1873) and first library (1904); the former is a local museum and the latter houses a collection of books about the village and town histories. The Country Store is a block away with a veranda where neighbors congregate. A short mile away walking along the Pomperaug River is the Audubon Society's Bird Sanctuary with field glasses to watch the diverse species feeding at multiple stations. Bicycle rental is available in Town and boats elsewhere. Your location is ideal in that South Britain Exit 14 on Interstate 84 is but a mile away and Midtown NYC can be reached in 75 minutes traveling all 65 miles on expressways. If you come by bus, an hour and 50 minutes from NYC, we can pick you up and take you back to the station. The SpaceAntique and contemporary beautifully marry to form a quaint and peaceful space that has it all. From two hundred year old beams and original wide-plank floors to french doors and eclectic, cozy furnishings, this home is packed with history, drenched with light, and awaits with open arms. THE HOME: The "salt box" portion of the home near the driveway entrance was build in 1820. This side of the house is clearly defined by antique beams, wide-plank boards, plaster walls and ceilings, original doors, staircase, giant fireplace, and unmistakable charm. The original portion of the home contains bedrooms 2 and 3, the upstairs bathroom, original stairway, the guest room with convertible sofa, the formal living room and the dining room. The remainder of the home was an addition from the 90's. Most of this addition was the lucky recipient of wide-plank floors planed from a fallen tree in the back yard. The charm continues. Downstairs, the kitchen pours into a cozy seating area complete with fireplace and 23" hidden TV, as well as an eat-in nook surrounded by french doors. And there you have it. This home is 3,200 square feet of cozy charm. KITCHEN: The kitchen is a wonderful place to cook and enjoy meals, as it gazes out into the vast yard, pond and pool. It's a peaceful place for family to create meals together, casually dine, and curl up in front of a toasty fire. Appliances include a refrigerator, wall oven, electric stove top, microwave, Breville espresso maker, instant coffee maker, single waffle iron, small crock pot and if there's something else you're looking for - just ask! We may have it. DOWNSTAIRS BATHROOM: The downstairs bathroom serves general guests, and is the primary bathroom for the guest(s) sleeping in the guest room with the convertible sofa. This bathroom has a cast-iron tub / shower, toilet and sink. In this bathroom closet you will find paper towels, toilet paper, and cleaning products. DINING ROOM: This dining room was once a blacksmith shop. Drenched in history, the wide-plank floors and original doors / hardware, surround you for a most cozy meal. The antique table, once a door, comfortably seats 4 upholstered chairs -- 2 more chairs can be pulled up to either end providing a table for 6. This room has a sonos speaker and dimm-able light pendants. FORMAL LIVING ROOM / PIANO ROOM: Curl up in front of a roaring fire in this beautiful space. Enjoy the baby grand piano and lush Arhaus sectional, as well as the company you came with. We have intentionally chosen not to install a television in this room. It's such a lovely space for fireside conversation. Floors may be creaky, and you may feel an occasional draft - it comes with the territory of an almost 200 year old house! (Not bad for 200 years!) GUEST ROOM: The guest room is located off of the dining room. Primarily used as a play room, this room has plush wall to wall carpeting and old-school built-ins. The sofa folds down to become a bed (instructions can be found in the welcome kit). While this may not be the best bed in the house, this lucky inhabitant is closest to the espresso maker come sunrise! BEDROOM 2: At the top of the original staircase you will arrive at bedroom 2. With 4 windows, all boasting antique seed glass, and a writer's desk, complete with guest access to an iMac, this bedroom welcomes you to slumber on a hand-made platform bed complete with futon mattress. This room will have a clothing rack with wooden hangers for you to use during your stay. BEDROOM 3: Steps away from bedroom 2 and the upstairs bathroom is Bedroom 3. This bedroom has original wooden beams and plaster walls -- a true historic gem. Antique built-ins house eclectic trinkets and books, which you are encouraged to peruse during your stay. This bed is a queen size mattress and box spring on a basic bed frame, and swivel-arm overhead lights are located beside the bed on either side for late-night reading. We have intentionally left a television out of this room. The sound of late-night crickets, wind, and early morning roosters singing their songs are too beautiful to ignore. MASTER BEDROOM (ALSO REFERRED TO AS BEDROOM 1) If you go upstairs, you will find yourself in the master bedroom- open and airy with a proud barrel ceiling and small walk-out patio. The King size platform bed is a West Elm design, complete with crisp clean linens, Arhaus bedside tables, and CB2 overhead reading lamps. You will be provided a clothing rack with wooden hangers for your garments. MASTER BATHROOM: The master bath is spacious and refreshing and includes a double vanity, large Jacuzzi tub, shower, and private toilet / bidet room. LAUNDRY ROOM: Off of the master is a conveniently located laundry room. You are welcome to use these during your stay. OUTDOOR SPACE POOL: Beautiful, relaxing gunite pool ranges from 4 ft to 8 ft. Pool is not heated, and in the summer averages from 76-80*. All pool equipment and floats are located in garage next to house. We use minimal chlorine treatment in the pool. POND: We do not recommend swimming in the pond, however it is a wonderful spot to fish. We request that prior to catching, you release the fish back into the pond. This pond is stocked with bass. BARN: The red barn serves as a storage space and added outdoor space. In the Summer we will have it guest-ready, however, in the colder months it is not ideal for use. You are welcome to explore the barn if you are curious! We do have a very sweet orange cat, Taco (named by our 2 year old son), who lives in the tack room on the end of the barn. He may or may not be there during your stay. CHICKENS / CHICKEN COUP: Our 20 chickens will likely lay eggs during your stay, which you are welcomed and encouraged to enjoy! They are kept in the run when we are not home, and tended to by a neighbor each morning and night. Our neighbor will use the entrance on the other side of the property (behind the garage) as not to disturb you. GARAGE: The garage is where we store pool equipment and toys, sporting equipment and lawn games. You are welcome to enjoy all of these things. We kindly request that you return everything to its original state and please let us know if anything is damaged during use. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use and enjoy a majority of the home, garage, and barn. Two very small areas of the home are deemed owner's quarters - the nursery / master closet, and our private home office. Interaction with GuestsThere will be somebody close by to assist guests with emergent needs. Owners will be available via text or phone 24/7. The NeighborhoodLocated on a scenic road that boasts streams, a small family owned farm, and beautiful woodlands, this home provides the tranquil escape that you are craving. You'll be just a few minutes away from the heart of town, which is home to a handful of great dining experiences and a most friendly community. Hiking trails, markets and other sweet attractions are just a hop skip and jump away. Getting AroundThe nearest train stations are located in Brewster, NY and Bridgeport, CT. We are under 10 minutes from I-84, and under 15 minutes from Route 25. Other Things to NoteThis home and property is perfect for those looking to enjoy themselves, the company they've traveled with, and the beauty that surrounds. If you are seeking a state-of-the-art home with abundant technology and air-con, then this home may not be for you. Our appliances are modest, and with that said, they certainly get the job done! This is our primary residence and the living is wonderful, easy, and enjoyable!

My place is close to Kettletown state park, the city center of Woodbury and the historic antiques district. The blue trail is across the street and that connects to the pomperaug trail and all the great Indian trails. We have a fire pit right by a river and a hammock and benches. It's a beautiful place. In the summer we have animals and a huge garden co-op!. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and furry friends (pets).

Gracious living accommodations and generous spaces and gardens in the prestigious home of the Town's first doctor. The interiors are as they were built in 1795 except for modern kitchen, bath, the summer living room under a full skylight, and the attached carriage house which has a fully renovated interior that is smaller but also available for rent. This house is my personal home, available for weekends when I'm in New York City and on vacations. I may take a vacation to accommodate you.
