The SpaceAbout 20' in diameter at the base (reducing to a bunkroom at 9' in diameter and beacon room at 6' in diameter), the living room and bedrooms are brick-lined with natural light and "gemutlich" antique furnishings and linens. Level 1 is the living room, Level 2 features a queen bedroom, Level 3 is the master bedroom, Level 4 is the bunkroom, and level 5 is the beacon room! The "keep" (basement, below the living room) has a basic kitchen and bathroom area, with composting toilet. As of Spring 2014, our reverse osmosis system should be complete, offering fresh water for showers and drinking! (photos forthcoming) Guest AccessWhen you rent the lighthouse, you get the whole lighthouse for yourselves. The price is the same from 1-6 guests, because the process of transporting guests to and from the light, hauling propane and supplies, offshore housekeeping, and managing laundry on an island are very labor intensive and expensive. You are welcome to explore the lighthouse completely, just avoid areas cordoned off for batteries, tools and supplies. Interaction with GuestsOur "keeper" will accommodate you by meeting you at the ferry dock, and will transport you by boat (regardless of weather). Only unsafe conditions on the seas will affect your ability to stay at the lighthouse. The keeper will instruct you on how to climb the ladder, help haul up your belongings and food (we like it when you help) give you a brief orientation, and then leave you there by yourselves. Call in case of emergency, but otherwise, you are 100% on your own to enjoy the solitude and peace of the 360 degree views. Whether "bucket list" experience, eco-tourism destination, or romantic getaway (and Goose Rocks is INCREDIBLY romantic), the key is to approach your stay with a laid-back attitude and sense of adventure. This is not so much "accommodation" as it is the experience of being a lighthouse keeper. Other Things to NoteGoose Rocks Lighthouse is an active aid to navigation. That means the flashing beacon light and fog horn are used by boats to help guide them through the channel and avoid danger. When there is less than 1 mile of visibility due to fog or heavy rain, the fog horn WILL sound. You cannot turn it off! It sounds much louder on the outside of the lighthouse than on the inside, so we recommend you stay indoors if it is sounding. We provide earplugs and sound-cancelling headsets, but most people adapt to it quickly and actually enjoy the authentication of the lighthouse experience.

The SpaceThe house sits up on a knoll at the end of a very long driveway. It was built in the 60’s and it has a very simple modern design that is very comfortable. There are 3 sections to it, and each is at a slightly different elevation. The Bedroom area has: Master bedroom...Queen bed Bedroom 2............Double bed Bedroom 3............. 2 twins (This can also be converted to a king) Bedroom 4...............1 twin Full bath Also included is a cabin that has double bed and two singles in it. This is a great spot to write or paint. It’s rustic, it has electric, but no running water. It is nestled in the trees right at the waters edge. A fully equipped kitchen is in the center of the house. This has an island with 4 stools and table with seating for 8. If you are an early riser this is where you can catch the sunrise. Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife, as we have seen seals, porpoises, Bald eagles and Great Blue Herons from here. Off the kitchen is a bathroom with shower as well as a pantry/laundry room. This spacious living room sits the highest on the point. Sometimes we hope for a rainy day so we don’t feel guilty about just lounging around here with a fire roaring in the center fireplace. It’s an incredible spot to watch a storm from! Play a game, nap or read one of the many books in our library. Behind the fireplace is a kids area with 3 big drawers of toys and wooden blocks. Guest AccessStep outside to catch a sea breeze and wave to the ferry. Have lobster on the deck, or sip wine and enjoy some local North Haven oysters. Watch the sailboats glide by as you wait for the magic hour. You will want to be here when the sun is setting. Walk down the steps to the green yard that gently slopes from the house to the two beaches. Take a swim or check out the tidal pools at low tide. Feel like exploring? Walk right out the door and climb up “The Knob” to the highest point on the island. This an easy hike from the house with a very rewarding view. Pick some blueberries or blackberries along the way. Bike around the island or to the farmers market in town. Visit Turner Farm and sample some fancy local cheese and organic veggies. The NeighborhoodMany visitors feel like there is really no need to leave the property, but North Haven is a particularly beautiful island and deserves exploring. It is not highly developed and there are stunning views around every corner. The town itself is charming and has several restaurants and two art galleries. The Waterman Community Center hosts a rich variety of programs, and performances. Just beyond town there is a great nine hole golf course and tennis court. Be sure to make a reservation at Nebo Lodge for dinner! Getting AroundI hope this gives you an idea of what your stay will be like. It The house is off a private road on Ames Point, whose waterfront is overseen by nine homeowners who have summer homes on the point. A New England Cape, it has been in the same family since 1923 and offers ample accommodation. Until recently, it had been rented in July for more than a decade by the same family. An ideal picnic boat named 'Adabo,' a 23-foot Steiger craft with brand new 225 hp outboard, is available for charter by the owner to qualified renters, as is a North Haven Dingy, a small Alden designed gaff rigged sailboat. As you approach the house from the front lawn, a cozy table and chairs invite you to sit under the shade of two pine trees and watch the boats go by. The front door opens to a spacious entry foyer. To the right is a study with broadband access and a connecting bathroom with stall shower. It also has a four-way printer and a small flatscreen DVD player, perfect for kids to watch movies tucked away on a bed festooned with pillows. This room can also double as a bedroom with brand new twin bed and private bath. WiFi is available throughout the house. The large L-shaped living room features a deep wood burning fireplace, two sitting areas, an upright piano and a discreetly located 32 inch flat screen TV. French doors open on to the deck with sunset views of the Fox Islands Thoroughfare and Southern Harbour to the right. Beyond the living room, a private downstairs Master bedroom awaits with a queen bed and attached full bath. From the side porch opposite the kitchen, three additional downstairs bedrooms (1 queen, 1 with two twin beds, and 1 twin) and full bath can accommodate extra guests. Also off the porch is a spacious eat-in kitchen with two fridges, two sinks (one extra large slate sink), updated counters and a sunny breakfast nook with a bay window view of the ocean. The large kitchen is big enough to allow two families to comfortably cook at the same time without bumping into one another. The adjoining dining room can accommodate 10-14 people. Five second floor bedrooms provide spacious accommodations for friends and family alike. The master bedroom boasts sweeping ocean views and a full bath with a claw foot tub. Three additional bedrooms can sleep seven in twin beds. A pack n play is also available. A full hall bathroom is equipped with a tub shower. The fifth bedroom/guest suite includes a separate staircase, private bath, two exposures and another queen bed. A five minute drive takes you to the town of North Haven. The island has three working harbors with a bustling fleet of lobstermen. Downtown are three restaurants, post office, library, boat yard, art gallery and gift shop. Waterman's Community Center offers a coffee shop (serving great coffee and the best homemade muffins ever)! The main sitting area is equipped with communal games, a train set, ping pong table and Wifi. It also offers high quality art classes, summer camps, a day care, and an art gallery. Off of the coffee shop's main room is a theater where weekly movies, art, plays, music, presentations and events are featured throughout the summer. The North Haven Casino, the island's unpretentious 100-year-old yacht club, supports two tennis courts and offers sailing and tennis lessons. Nebo Lodge is a special place to eat, with its award-winning cuisine using island-grown meat and organic produce. Visit Nebo's cozy, yet bustling, bar for creative cocktails and delicious wines. Calderwood Hall Pizzeria & Market offers homemade pizza, salads, and a full bar. During the day, Calderwood Hall is a market selling local, organic produce and culinary delights. Fresh bread is cooked daily. Cooper's Landing on Main Street, with their large outdoor deck, offers delicious casual dining, Gifford's ice cream and recently expanded indoor dining. Turner Farm is a diversified organic saltwater farm on the island of North Haven that produces MOFGA certified-organic vegetables, flowers, poultry, herbs and eggs. They also produce pasture-raised beef and pork and operate a pasture-based goat dairy. The dairy provides milk for their farmstead Creamery, which specializes in fresh chèvre and artisan goat and cow cheeses. Their Farm Stand is open in the barn each Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-1pm from May through September. Children enjoy the homemade pastries, a walk to visit the farm animals and a stop at the farm's beautiful beach. On the main post flanking downtown's Main Street, you will see local events advertised such as Yoga classes, fresh oysters for sale, and a Saturday Farmers Market. The island has a 9-hole golf course cited by GOLF as one of the finest small courses in America, and even a branch of the Rockport YMCA with fully equiped fitness center. But many enjoy simply bicycling the many roads around the island, kayaking the thoroughfare or picnicking by boat at one of the hundreds of uninhabited surrounding islands. One day it might be a boat ride to the white islands replete with it's white granite shores and another day, a trip to Brimstone island to skip stones on its black rock beach or hike to its highest point, with 360-degree views of Isle Au Haut, Matinicus, Stonington, and Vinalhaven. What makes vacationing unique on this island is that so little has changed over the years. Follow a trail through the woods and make a gentle climb up to 'Ames Knob.' Soak up the view from there of Cadillac Mountain and the Camden Hills. Looking down on the Thoroughfare you can often see two and three masted schooners that used to carry cargo up and down the coast and are now filled with passengers eager for a maritime experience. With the wind in their sails, the schooners slip past without a sound. You could easily believe that time has stood still. Everything about North Haven is in slow motion. June and July are some of the best months of the summer to rent on North Haven. The weather is warm, but not too warm; the dog days of August are still to come. Ames Point still awaits the arrival of most of its summer residents, and you may find that some days you or your family are the only ones using the beach and dock. Come and experience a truly relaxing vacation in one of Maine’s most beautiful, preserved and private locations. NOTE: We do not host weddings on the property. And we are primarily interested in two-week or longer renters -- especially renters that hope to return annually. Occasionally exceptions can be made in June/September.

Relaxation? Peace? Reflection? Look no further. The Studio at Calf Point will be your place of escape located on seven acres of wooded coastline. The Studio is rustic but has the space to comfortably host a gathering of friends and family. The deck overlooks the Thorofare where you will be greeted by majestic views of the North Haven and beyond. Yachts, windjammers, lobster boats and the North Haven Ferry pass by on a regular basis showing different colors and styles of sails and boats. The water is just 20 feet from the edge of the deck giving you that true “on the water” feeling. Seals can often be seen in the Thorofare and eagles and ospreys fly overhead. You are removed from everyday life and surrounded by nature, but are never far from comfort. A short walk takes you down to the floating docks where two kayaks are available to explore the shore and islands in the Thorofare. A guest mooring is available for your boat. On the main floor is the spacious living and dining room with windows and three double patio doors that open out onto the deck and overlook the Thorofare. There is a fireplace and a supply of dry fire wood available for a relaxing dinner or evening in front of the fireplace. The kitchen has a view of the water and North Haven with all the cookware to prepare a wonderful Maine lobster dinner. And the dishwasher will minimize the after dinner work. Up a short flight of steps are two bedrooms and a full bath. The larger bedroom overlooks the water and has a double and a twin bed. The second smaller bedroom has a twin bed. The stacked washer and dryer are in the closet. On the second floor, there are two more bedrooms, both overlooking the water. One has two twin beds and the other has two double beds. There is a second full bath with a tub and shower. Pick up your groceries and lobsters on your way out of town and prepare to spend a wonderful relaxing week on the water on a lovely island of the coast of Maine. Enjoy a spectacular view of sunsets from the deck of our lovely Maine home. You'll look across our cove, Penobscot Bay, and spruce-covered islands as the sun sets behind the Camden Hills. Directly above the tide-line, you'll hear gulls, lapping waves, wind in the trees, occasional lobster boats hauling traps, and two or three boats clinking on their moorings in Bartlett's Harbor. The quintessential Maine summer house is lovingly maintained and furnished with antiques, while also offering the comforts required today. Up the curved staircase is one bathroom with shower and four small bedrooms (one queen, two doubles, one single). Downstairs is one bedroom (2 twins), a full bathroom, TV area, living room area, dining area (antique oak table seats 8), and large kitchen. For many years part of an artists' colony at Bartlett's Harbor, this house was named 'The Red House' (though now gray-shingled). It is one of three houses on the west side of Bartlett's Harbor, a cove perfect for rowing and exploring. Children love to search for mussels, starfish, shells, seaglass, driftwood. Location, location, location. It doesn't get better than this! This house and cabin are located on a stretch of land that has water on 3 sides. Look out towards the mainland, Fox Island Thoroughfare and Brown's Cove. The water views are so remarkable you may need to pinch yourself! The house sits up on a knoll at the end of a very long driveway. It was built in the 60’s and it has a simple modern design that is very comfortable. There are 3 sections, and each is at a slightly different elevation. The bedroom area : Master bedroom...Queen bed Bedroom 2............Double bed Bedroom 3............. 2 twins (This can also be converted to a king) Bedroom 4...............1 twin Full bath A fully equipped kitchen is in the center of the house. This living room sits the highest on the point. Step outside to catch a sea breeze and wave to the ferry. Have lobster on the deck, or sip wine and enjoy some local North Haven oysters. Watch the sailboats glide by as you wait for the magic hour. You will want to be here when the sun is setting. Walk across the yard to one of the beaches. Take a swim or check out the tidal pools at low tide. Feel like exploring? Climb up “The Knob” to the highest point on the island. This an easy hike from the house with a very rewarding view. Pick some blueberries or blackberries along the way. Bike around the island or to the farmers market in town. Visit Turner Farm and purchase some fancy local cheese and organic veggies. If you plan ahead you could even book a seat at one of their candle light barn dinners (prepared by the chef from Nebo Lodge in town). Many visitors feel like there is really no need to leave the property, but North Haven is a particularly beautiful island and deserves exploring. It is not highly developed and there are stunning views around every corner. The town is charming and has several restaurants and two art galleries. The Waterman Community Center hosts a rich variety of programs, and performances. At the Casino (Town dock) there is a fantastic sailing camp. Just beyond town there is a great nine hole golf course and tennis courts as well. I hope this gives you an idea of what your stay will be like. There are 3 ferries a day from the mainland, and the Maine State Ferry service takes reservations up to 30 days in advance. This is the first time our house has been available to rent for 8 years, so we don’t have many high definition photos to upload to HomeAway. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Warm regards, Susan

This historic property, our Guest House, has been tastefully and comfortably restored. It was built over 100 years ago. It is located on its own cove with your own private island accessible at low tide. The sun porch that stretches the full width of the house offers an incredible view of the cove, only a few feet away. Houses cannot be built this close to the water any longer. Numerous wildlife has been observed from the sun porch, including a pair of Bald Eagles, Osprey, ducks, and Loons. The house has a fully equipped kitchen with eat-in-area. The living room has a Franklin Stove, allowing the creation of a cozy setting on those sometimes cool Maine evenings. The two bedrooms upstairs offer a nice retreat. This house is ideal for a couple or a small family. The setting is very private and very beautiful. The rock garden blooms summer long with a variety of flowers. The lawn allows one to easily beach a canoe or a kayak. Hiking trails maintained by the Vinalhaven Land Trust are a close walk away.Crockett's Cove offers boaters wonderful surprises, such as reversing falls, Whitmore Pond, and other small islands to explore or stop for lunch..It is an easy drive to town or to the landing for North Haven Island. This is the guest house for the main house (the Cottage).

Overlooking picturesque Bartlett's Harbor, this secluded property, set among spruce trees, wildflowers, and rocky ledges, includes a small house plus an "in-law cabin." It offers two parties privacy but close proximity: a lawn separates the two buildings by 50'. Access to two beaches (rocky and pebble) and the pier, along a dirt road, is a two-minute walk. The Barnacle proper has 3 small bedrooms plus a loft under the eaves (6.5' standing room in center of loft), living/dining area with wood-burning stove, small kitchen (gas stove, microwave, coffeemaker, but no dishwasher), bathroom, and deck. The "in-law cabin" is a one-room efficiency, with a comfy double bed, kitchen area, bathroom. and washer-dryer. Both have great views, especially of the sunsets over the Camden Hills.

The Wooster family farmhouse was built at the head of Crockett Cove in 1843. The guest house/barn is the residence available for rental. It was built in 1964. It faces south with a lovely water view and summer breeze. One can hear the reversing falls at all times except high tide when you can slip over the the falls and kayak in the completely conserved natural area, the largest salt marsh on the island. There are Osprey nests, Herons, Eiders, Guillemots, Kingfishers and other birds in the area. The Barn/Guesthouse is situated behind the farmhouse the dark roof of which is just barely visible in the aerial photograph of the property. The Barn/Guesthouse is a completely renovated building which is simple but elegant. It is furnished with antique family furniture and rustic elements. There is a large room with a fireplace at one end and a large semi-open kitchen at the other. There is a bedroom with a queen size bed on the first floor and a sleeping loft with two twin beds. There is a bathroom with a shower/bathtub on the first floor. You may leave kayaks or rowing shells on the shore. There are several walking trails near by on Vinalhaven Land Trust and Town owned properties and the island of North Haven can be accessed by driving about 3 miles to the northern end of Vinalhaven and taking a boat taxi across the Thoroughfare. The small town of North Haven has several restaurants, galleries and shops, including the acclaimed Nebo Lodge which serves only locally sourced food.

Stunning water views worthy of a postcard from every room in this restored carriage house and separate guest house. Available for rent separately or together. Nature trails, multiple beaches and 4,200 feet of shoreline to explore on this 52 acre property. Access to a shared dock and two moorings. The house is at the end of the island known as Crabtree Point. It is about a 10-15 minute drive from the town of North Haven where you'll leave the ferry. You may not want to leave the property but if you do, the 3 x 9 mile island boasts beautiful views in all directions. There are three working harbors filled with sailboats and a fleet of lobstermen. Downtown you'll find three restaurants, post office, library, boat yard, art gallery, gift shops, and Waterman's Community Center. Waterman's is a place to gather to play board games, ping pong or use their free Wifi. They also offer various classes from photography to tennis, summer camp, day care, and coffee shop. Weekly first run movies are shown in the movie theatre. Plays, music, presentations and events are featured throughout the summer. The North Haven Casino, the island's 100 year old yacht and tennis club, has 2 tennis courts and offers sailing and tennis lessons to children. A Saturday Farmers' Market, 9-hole golf course cited by GOLF as one of the best small courses in the US, and even a branch of the Rockport YMCA with fully equiped fitness center offer additional options for fun and exercise. Many just enjoy biking, walking the island or kayaking. Turner Farm is an organic saltwater farm on the island that produces MOFGA certified-organic vegetables, flowers, poultry, herbs and eggs. They also produce pasture-raised beef and pork, and operate a pasture-based goat dairy. The dairy provides milk for their farmstead Creamery, which specializes in fresh chèvre and artisan goat and cow cheeses. TheTurner Farm Stand is open in their stunning barn each Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-1pm from May through September and is also part of the Saturday Farmers' Market. Nebo Lodge, with its award winning cuisine using island-grown organic produce, is the perfect spot for dinner or a drink at the intimate bar. The outdoor terrace has been expanded to accomodate more diners. Calderwood Hall Pizzeria and Market offers homemade pizza, bar and clever gourmet market downtown. During the day, Calderwood Hall's market sells local, organic produce and culinary delights. Fresh bread is cooked daily. Hot out of the oven, it's reason enough to visit North Haven. Cooper's Landing, with its bright umbrellas lining the outdoor deck, rounds out the restaurant offerings. The menu offers excellent casual dining. They also have a beer and wine license. This year the indoor dining room has been renovated and expanded. What makes vacationing unique on this island is that so little has changed over the years. Looking out to the Thoroughfare you can see schooners that used to carry cargo up and down the coast and are now filled with tourists from Camden and Rockland. As you watch them sail by you feel like time has stopped in this magical place. Although August is a popular month, June and July are absolutely stunning on North Haven. The weather is warm and wild flowers are in bloom everywhere you look. September and October retain the warmth of the summer but the island gets quieter. North Haven remains a wonderful place to relax, enjoy nature and do exactly what you want to do with your days and nights. Experience a truly relaxing vacation in one of Maine’s most beautiful, preserved and private locations. The Maine state ferry makes three one-hour trips to and from Rockland daily. Cars are permitted on board the ferry.

“HighTide” is a dream vacation, year round family home located on Calderwood Neck, Vinalhaven (Island), Maine. An estate property on waterfront overlooking Carver Cove and the Fox Island Thorofare, on the north end of Vinalhaven, there are spectacular seaside views from every window. We are accepting June and early July bookings in 2016. The east screen porch has a dining table for eight, a comfortable sitting area around a stone fireplace (to ward off an early morning or evening chill) and provides wonderful, expansive views to the Camden Hills in the distance. The grounds around the house include a fully fenced hard-surface Tennis Court, an open field suitable for sports, a small pond for tad-pole catching and “wet-dog” ball throwing, and a large dock on the long stone beach. The Calderwood Neck Road, nearby Polly’s Cove Vinalhaven Land Trust preserve nature trails, and the infamous “Starboard Rock” at Winter Harbor provide wonderful scenic walks and jogging. At the house, the pergola covered south terrace and Adirondack Chairs around the fire pit provide spots for quite reading and contemplation. Swing in the hammock or sit on any of several stone benches and just soak in all of what it is like to be in Maine in the Summer and Fall. Inside, the house features six bedrooms and four & ½ baths spread out over three stories, and can sleep up to fourteen subject to approval: The western end of the first floor encompasses the master bedroom suite, with a four post king bed and a master bath with twin showers and a Jacuzzi tub. These rooms have direct access to the private west screen porch with day bed (mid-afternoon snooze…) and outdoor shower. The center-piece of the home is a two story interior stone chimney in the entrance hall, encircled by a nautical themed fine wood stair case and rails. The stone fireplace fronts in the large Great Room, which features a two person window seat bench and game table. Bring your best piano player to enjoy the cherry wood grand piano in the window corner. The large chef’s grade kitchen provides ample room to prepare meals, picnic baskets and otherwise organize your days in Maine. The dinning room provides a rare “bad weather day” alternative to the screen porch for your family meals. A full mud room includes a washer and dryer, a second dishwasher for those large meal clean-ups, and an additional refrigerator and freezer for extra provisions. The second floor includes a guest bedroom suite with king bed, relaxed sitting area and a private bath. Down the kid’s corridor are two bedrooms featuring “ships berth” window beds (each room sleeps two) and a full twin sink bathroom with shower and bath (suitable for bathing smaller children) and a private commode. Behind the stone chimney on the second floor, the “wheel house” study provides a partner’s desk and office work space for those of us whose careers don’t allow us to “get away from it all.” The "glass-floor", ships-ladder accessed, all windowed "cupola" at the very top of the house features director's chairs and 270 degrees of ocean view. A writer's getaway and enriching hide-out. On the ground floor facing the sea is a large bed guestroom with expansive French doors opening to an umbrella shaded terrace. A high ceiling “bunk room” includes four ships berth bunks for your “crew”. These two rooms share a stone floor bath with twin sinks, a large steamer shower and a private commode. A full exercise room with fixed equipment and free weights, tread mill, stair-stepper, and ballet bars also includes large French doors opening to the north lawn. The game room includes a pool table / ping pong table combo and a book shelf stocked with summer reading. HighTide is served by Internet, but guests are cautioned that being eight miles to sea via microwave link doesn’t provide “urban city” speeds. Limited subscription Direct TV provides basic channel news coverage and major networks at the Great Room, Game Room and Exercise Room flat screen televisions. Land line telephone service is provided. The dock includes six single and two double kayaks available for use by guests (bring your life jackets please). For those guests with substantial and documented sailing experience, two Lasers and two Optimist sailboats are also available at extra charges. Experienced, licensed boaters may also use an eighteen foot Boston Whaler with 150hp engine, again at an extra charge and under a separate agreement. HighTide is intended as single point vacation spot for your family and friends. Come enjoy life on an island on the Maine Coast in Penobscot Bay. Use of the owner's caretaker and household assistant are required under separate arrangement. All guests are subject to approval of a written application and credit check, a signed lease, security deposit and rental pre-payment. Guests must also remit an eight percent (8%) State of Maine tax in addition to the rental payment. A house cleaning fee is also applied, amount subject to occupancy during your stay.

**This is a summer through fall rental only. We are currently booking for fall 2016 and summer 2017. Get in touch early, as the summer is a busy time on North Haven and its best to book in advance. Come get away to our island home far from the busyness of daily life. Unplug, sit back and relax on our quiet peaceful porch. Take a breathtaking ferry ride and stay in our lovely 4 bedroom, 1 bath, house on the island of North Haven, Maine. The house is set on a saltwater marsh with cattails, herons, osprey, bald eagles and all sorts of other wildlife for viewing. The house looks out on Bartlett’s Harbor with a panoramic view of the harbor and beyond. Bartlett’s harbor has a private walk-able (at the end of the road - about 150 ft away) beach shared by the other property owners, often you may be the only person on the beach. It is very quiet and peaceful. The water is clear, amazingly clean. The water in Maine is cold, but I remember that didn't stop me from swimming when I was a kid! Bring a wet suit or an inner tube and you won't even notice. At night you will hear basically nothing and you can lie or sit on the porch under a blanket as we did as children and stare at the stars to count how many shooting stars you see. Our family has gone to Maine every summer for 54 years and we love the family time it allows us and the peacefulness we feel after our time there. We hope you do too!

The elegant wood stairway leads you upstairs to your bedrooms and bath. The entire upstairs is for your use. Two bedrooms have a queen bed each and a third has antique poster twin beds. There is also a small TV watching area in one bedroom and wireless internet throughout the house. The large bath has an antique claw-foot porcelain bathtub with a large rain showerhead. There is a wood stove which is not available for your use in the summer. For 3 guests or less, you will have the option of a continental breakfast every morning. The harbor is within a 3 minute walk. If you are planning on bringing a car, please check with the Maine State Ferry System for the ferry times and procedures. If you choose to walk on the ferry, your hostess will pick you up at the ferry terminal and transport you and your luggage. Because “Island Time B & B” is walkable from the harbor, consider coming by boat. Vinalhaven Island lies twelve miles off the coast of Maine, and is the state’s largest off-shore community. It was settled in 1765, and became a granite quarrying center supplying granite for numerous historic buildings in NY and Washington, DC. It is known now for its striking natural beauty and for being home to one of the world’s largest lobster fishing fleets. The island town is home to two nature preserves, both managed by the Nature Conservancy. Lane’s Island Preserve consists of rolling moors that run down to meet the sea on a 43-acre island joined to Vinalhaven by a stone causeway. Rough trails lead to beaches and bold shorelines, where the surf is spectacular on a stormy day. It offers many options for summer fun. The numerous hiking trails are well marked and varied. Two abandoned quarries serve as town fresh water swimming holes. Whether on a bike or in a car, there are numerous roads to explore. During the summer there are an array of activities to include bean suppers, free nature walks sponsored by the Nature Conservancy, and some musical productions.

North Haven also is home to a semi-private, nine-hole golf course that has been written up in Golf Magazine as one of the best public nine hole courses in the US (and is within walking distance of the house).
