Further activities include boating, canoeing and kayaking, tennis, golf, bowling and lawn bowling, scuba diving and beach combing. The Gulf islands are accessible for day trips on the many ferry routes just 10 minutes away. Salt Spring Island is a 35 minutes ferry ride and has a very popular Saturday morning market with many artisan objects for sale created by the many artists who live there. It is a fascinating island and well worth a visit. Sidney is 7 kms away and has all the amenities of a small town. The SpaceSpend a night, a week, a fortnight or a month recharging your batteries (or writing a book!) in this self-contained suite. Ample parking, private entrance, spacious kitchen with a table open to the living area, a separate 4 piece bathroom, and two bedrooms each with a comfortable queen bed. In this paradise of no street lights and the sounds of only the forest, you will sleep soundly. You can spend hours wandering the forest paths and beaches, or take in many of the wonderful local attractions and sights. Or, stay in and relax with a good book. Both bedrooms have a high quality queen bed. If you need more than two sleeping spaces, there is a comfortable queen sofabed (with a foam topper) in the living room for your use. The space is subtly high tech; there is wifi, a TV with direct access to Netflix and YouTube that also doubles as a monitor, and a portable bluetooth speaker. We want you to breathe fully and cleanly the fresh air surrounding this area. The space is maintained as pet- and smoke-free, and only environmentally and people friendly cleaning products are used. Here to see Victoria? It is 20 minutes from here to the Uptown shopping centre, 30 minutes to downtown by car (a bit faster by motorcycle :-)). You can spend your day exploring Victoria’s sights and then retire to the countryside to put your feet up, perhaps with a good glass of wine from one of the excellent wineries on the Saanich Peninsula. Local attractions Pop into the beautiful Sidney by the Sea to check out a bookstore, do some shopping, purchase fresh fish or veggies for dinner, or stroll along the sea. Visit the Roost for breakfast, a popular local eatery that bakes delicious bread from its own wheat and an assortment of delectable bakery items. Reserve dinner at The Chalet, a renowned Deep Cove restaurant. A short drive north finds you at the Deep Cove Market, filled to the brim with local produce and other wares and delicious coffee. Butchart Gardens, a year-round attraction, is about a 20 minute scenic drive from here. We are 5-10 minutes (about a $12 taxi ride) from the Victoria International Airport. BC Ferries Swartz Bay terminal is 15 minutes by car. Are you in town for business? Our space can sleep 3 business colleagues and is well suited to small, casual business meetings or retreats. Let us know if you would like to hold a meeting here, and we can look after the details for a moderate fee (projector, whiteboard, flipcharts, and facilitation if needed). What the space isn't This space is low key and west coast. There is no dishwasher, microwave or drip coffee maker. There is an espresso machine, with instructions, and a french press. Guest AccessThere is a washer and dryer for your use. The kitchen is well equipped for you to prepare a delicious meal with local food. Through your own private entrance you have access to a forested acre to roam, find a spot to sit quietly, or wander further for hours on the many excellent paths and beaches in the area. The water from the tap here is potable and is excellent drinking water. Interaction with GuestsWe live in a separate part of the house. We respect your privacy and you probably won't see us, unless you have questions or need something, in which case we are here for you. There is a small poodle in a separate part of the house, who does not have access to the suite. The NeighborhoodThe area is well known for its excellent walking and biking trails and numerous beach accesses. The closest beach access is 10 minutes away on foot (carrying a kayak, for example). Three beach accesses are close to us, and they take you to pebbly beaches nestled between Coles Bay and Pat Bay. Both of the larger bays are also accessible by foot, and if you're a water sign you can swim to your heart's content. There are no street lights and all properties are acreages, so you have to listen really (really) hard to hear any people or cars. Hearing owls and other forest birds is easy though. The neighbourhood is great for walkers and for seeing the ocean and forest; it is, however, rural, and if you want to get around quickly and to lots of places, we recommend a car. Getting AroundBy car - it's a 25 minute drive to Victoria, 10 minutes to Sidney by the Sea, 15 minutes to the ferry, 5 minutes to the airport. By bus - it's a 5 minute walk to the bus stop, giving you access to buses to Sidney, the airport, or the exchange to head into Victoria. From the bus stop, a bus to Sidney is about 15 minutes and into Victoria is between 1 and 1.5 hours. By bike - it's about 25 minutes to Sidney, or to the Lochside Trail, a popular biking trail. By foot - it's an hour and a bit to walk to Sidney. This property is rural. It is best if you arrive with a vehicle to get around to the various sights and experiences on southern Vancouver Island. Car-less folks will be happy if their wish is to nest for a few days in a secluded spot. Nature surrounds the space and you can walk for hours to experience forest and beaches. There is s small rural bus (limited runs per day) providing service to Sidney, and to an exchange to get into Victoria. Other Things to NoteBe careful, you may fall in love with North Saanich. There's something magical about this place.
