The SpaceWe have a lovely spot just two miles off of I-95, with a 26 acre lake and walking trails. The closest town is Westerly, RI. It is a pretty town, with restaurants and shops, a gorgeous library, and a wonderful park, called Wilcox Park. Often there will be a festival or concert in the park. In the apartment, there is an information sheet outlining the best of Westerly. I'm sure I've missed many things. Nearby Stonington Borough ( love Dog Watch Cafe in Stonington) and Mystic, CT also have nice restaurants and boutiques, and are great for strolling. Watch Hill beach is gorgeous (Parking is expensive during the summer months, but free after 6:00 in the evenings). Narragansett Beach and Wickford and the surrounding towns are very nice. Newport, RI is about an hour away. Newport is known for the 3.5 mile Cliff Walk, which is the waterfront area behind the great mansions. There is also a mansion tour where you will see the interiors of these amazing homes. There is a great selection of restaurants in Newport, as well. Information sheet in the apartment. Providence, RI is 35 minutes away (north) and has a more extensive offering of restaurants. See Yelp. The casinos are less than a half hour away. Mystic Seaport and the Mystic Aquarium are 4 exits to the south. Some of my guests have taken fishing excursions. Others have gone on whale watching tours. I never found out if they saw any whales! There are ferry excursions to Block Island and to Long Island. After touring, sit lakeside with a glass of wine. The photos shown here highlight the different vantage points of the lake, not the views from the apartment windows. We recently completed our retirement home - a big red barn finished as a home, shown in one of the photos. The airbnb one-bedroom apartment is beneath our barn/home, on the ground level, and it is an airy, bright walk-out, with it's own private entrance, just about 100 feet from the lake, but without a view of the lake. The apartment has its own private patio. You can see the lake from the airbnb patio. Our home is upstairs. Yes, you may hear us at times, as we live here full time, but we move around very quietly in the early morning hours. You will have all the privacy that you need. You will not hear party sounds or moving of furniture, just the sounds of gentle living. This adorable apartment has one bedroom with a queen-size platform bed. We provide all bed linens and towels. The apartment is best suited for one couple, as there is only one queen bed. I will not rent to two couples. The apartment has a great kitchen complete with pots and pans and coffee-maker. I stock a few items in the refrigerator, but I do not serve breakfast. I let my guests make their own breakfast with the items in the fridge. Please let me know if you are vegan, dairy-free, or gluten-free, and I will try to think of some alternatives to the items I usually provide for breakfast, which is coffee, tea, English muffins, butter, jam, eggs, and granola. On our property, there are trails into the forest and it's possible to walk back to see the new pond that the beavers made. They are creating a little havoc with our water flow, but we kind of love them, too! Oh, this is exciting: We recently saw a pair of bald eagles! It was quite a sight to behold! Other creatures that we see : otters, foxes, deer, turkeys, and occasionally, coyotes. Tick spray is needed if you walk into the woods. Ticks are terrible this year! Parking is plentiful, even for an RV. We have 5 dairy goats and 2 Boston terriers. We have a small vineyard, a blueberry patch and a fruit tree orchard. You'll have all the amenities of a private hotel room, but you can also enjoy nature, pet the goats, row in the canoe , walk on our trails, and get to the closest beach in 20 minutes. You will love it here! I think I have become a special respite for New Yorkers looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Many have come and expressed that this place - the small, attractive, neatly-organized, new apartment and the picnic spot by the lake - have been just what they needed. Please give me an idea when you will arrive and leave. I'm asking that guests come around 3:00 PM (arrival) and check out by noon. I have to be firm about check-out time. I often have back-to-back reservations every summer, and must allow this 3 hour window to clean, change bedding, and stock the room. If you plan to come after dark, let me know and I will leave an outside light on for you. We will be renovating a pre-Revolutionary War farmhouse on the property, right next door from the airbnb apartment, but we will not make noise during your stay. Inside the apartment, I have a lot of reference information and maps. I've noted a few places to visit and to eat. As my guests give me recommendations about restaurants that they have tried and enjoyed, I am adding them to the guidebook. One place that is always great is the Matunuck Oyster Bar, about 20 minutes away. In the summer, the lines are long. Just so you know....Rhode Island recently decided that airbnb hosts have to pay sales tax and hotel tax. Airbnb will be collecting it for us, so it's included in the price that you will be charged when you book the space. Guest AccessGuests may use the lake. It is enclosed on our property. We will provide life vests. We only have adult-sized life vests. Please take them with you on your row. We have one rowboat and a two-person kayak. Please, no small children or babies out in the lake. We don't have life vests in every size. Please be very responsible and watch your children near the lake. Please, do not use the lake if you don't know how to swim. Please do not go out on the lake after dark. Do not go out if you have been drinking. Understandably, I am very concerned about safety. I do not have a lifeguard on duty, so I have to ask my guests to use extremely good judgement about the use of the lake. Fishing is allowed, but we insist on catch-and-release. We prefer to keep the fish in the pond. We do not provide fishing gear, but you may bring your own. It is very important that you bring tick spray for your protection, if you take walks into the woods. Any fences that you see with 3 wires parallel to the ground and ribbons on it is electric! Use caution! Any small children should be made aware of these fences. You will see chairs by the lake that are tipped over. They are for your use. They are tipped over, because the wind makes them tumble around, so I just tip them over. We are usually home, but try to be fairly invisible. You may bump into us as we come and go, but we get to use the area by the lake all year long, so we try to give our guests a lot of privacy. However, we ask that you do not entertain or have a party by the lake or in the apartment. This accommodation and our property is meant for our airbnb guests only. We ask that you not allow any friends to spend the night with you. Let me know if you would like more access to the goats. I can let you walk around with them. But, a spray water bottle is necessary. They like to get up close and personal! Interaction with GuestsI love to meet my guests! I will also respect their privacy. Once we meet and I tell you a few important things, you are more or less on your own. I feel that many of my guests come here to enjoy privacy and I will not bother you, as long as I see that you have what you need. However, while you are here, feel free to ask about the area, or if you have a question about the apartment. I'm always available by text. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is very quiet. We are close to I-95, which makes it very easy to go to Mystic, CT, which is 4 exits to the south. In Mystic, there is the Mystic Aquarium and the Mystic Seaport. Also, you will find boutiques and restaurants. Stonington Borough is 3 exits to the south. Providence, RI is about 40 minutes north on 95. Newport, RI is an hour and 20 min away. so you can get to any of the towns and cities nearby very easily. Boston is less than 2 hours away. There are not too many restaurants right in our town. I encourage guests to leave me names of places that you have enjoyed, so I can include them in my reference materials. When reading the information on my site, scroll down to the map. On the map, you will see icons of nearby restaurants, parks, wineries, and more. Getting AroundWe are just two miles from Exit #1 in Rhode Island, the exit just north of the CT border. There is no public transportation in our area. We live on a country road. The Amtrak train is about 7 miles away in the town of Westerly, RI. The closest airport is T.F. Green Airport located in Warwick, RI, which is 30 minutes north of us. I will give you directions from the airport if you need them. Other Things to NoteThis is VERY important. We have a septic system. No baby wipes or sanitary products in the toilet, please. Those items would clog and damage our system. There is some electric fencing for our goats. Three wires parallel to the ground indicates electric fencing. I will show you where it is. I do not provide my guests laundry privileges, because my washer and dryer are off my bedroom on our third floor, in our quarters. There are plenty of towels provided in the apartment. Please, please keep the doors to the apartment closed. I know it's nice to get extra breezes, but please just use the windows and fans. We have a lot of flies. Maybe it's because the goat barn is nearby. I also see mice outside a lot. So, when you go in and out to set up the patio table, please close the doors behind you. If you want to walk in the area where I often graze the goats or walk in the woods, you should bring an extra pair of shoes (or boots) that you don't mind getting a little dirty. Storms come up rather suddenly. Please check the weather forecast and close the windows accordingly.

The SpacePUT TO BED FOR THE WINTER, BUT REOPENS April 28th TO ENJOY THE MAGIC OF SPRING TIME! If you love the experience of camping in an idyllic location look no further! Lady of the Lake is for you! It is a place to relax and be rejuvenated watching the seasons as they pass, listening to the sounds of nature. Come experience our fully equipped camping trailer, set up to enjoy private lake views, without being surrounded by the crowd. The set up is all done and just waiting for you to arrive. It will comfortably hold up to 4 adults. She is a well cared for 31 ft camping trailer located on the owner's home property, but in a space to feel like you are all alone with nature. The camper is fully equipped for comfortable 3 season living, with AC and heat, a kitchen with refrigerator, oven, cooktop, microwave, coffeemaker, pots and pans. We have a TV with a DVD player but unfortunately do not have cable so have some limited channels. There is also a built in CD player. There is good cell service from both Verizon and ATT towers nearby. The sleeping spaces are a master bedroom with a queen bed, 2 hanging closets and lots of drawer space, as well as a bunk room at the opposite end with 4 bunk beds, and hanging closets and drawers. Even though there are lots of beds we feel that limiting the guest number to 4 total will give our guests the best 'camping experience'. The bathroom has a shower and toilet space, with the sink located separately in the hallway, accessible even when the bathroom is in use. Outside your door is a fire pit with a view out to the lake, picnic tables, and a gas grill. There is a canoe and double sit-upon kayak for your use. Guest AccessStaying with us also gives you access to lovely walks through our property and onto the quiet roads on either side. You are a couple hundred feet to our beach area, with a canoe and a double sit upon kayak available for your enjoyment. Enjoy swimming, boating, and fishing (need a CT fishing license). The lake is known for great bass and trout fishing. Interaction with GuestsYour visit is a visit with us. The location is on our property but not near our home. We are often present doing property chores, but will give you your space. We set up a meet and greet to introduce to your 'vacation retreat', the features of the camper and the area. You can have as much, or as little, interaction with us as you desire. The NeighborhoodLady of the Lake is located on private property, near neighbors, but not too near. We are on a lovely pristine lake used mostly for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. The lake has a speed limit that restricts high speed boating, making it a very quiet lake. Enjoy the view of the lake from your trailer, watching the geese and swans as you have your morning coffee. Getting AroundYou will need a car to most enjoy the area. We are 45 minutes from the Providence Airport off I95 and just over an hour to Bradley Airport in Hartford. Both airports have rental car facilities. Amtrak Train stops in New London, CT frequently heading north to Boston and south to New York City. We are within an hour to many great attractions, and even Boston is only 2 hours away! We also have tapped into Uber in the area, if needed. Other Things to NoteWe are 2 miles (a nice walk, if you so desire) to Foxwoods Casino, and 10 miles to Mohegan Sun Casino. The grocery store, Mystic Aquarium and Olde Mistick shopping village are 6 miles away, with Mystic Seaport and the town of Mystic another mile down the road. The shoreline is dotted with great public beaches both in CT and RI, as close as 10 miles away. We have several great state parks less than an hour away, both with interesting older homes and great hiking trails. If you love fishing there is great fresh water fishing out your door in our canoe or kayak, as well as deep sea fishing charters near by. Oh, and I forgot to mention the CT Wine trail stops at several nearby vineyards, and we have our own great microbreweries close by! There is so much to do that your days will always be full, but be sure to save time to relax and enjoy the peace of your spot!

There are still some weekdays in October. Rates have been lowered for a last minute getaway. Autumn is a wonderful time to come to the cottage! The lake is surrounded by fall color, and the views of the foliage are beautiful from the decks or on kayaks. Take a walk or a bike ride along the shoreline, through Mystic attractions, or in the woods such as up Lantern Hill. You can also visit orchards, wineries, Foxwoods, or other attractions at MysticCountry.com. The cottage overhangs the edge of the lake with an expansive 20'x24' water level deck that you can swim or kayak from, and a large second story deck which makes you feel like royalty as you view nature and the lake from above. Both decks are ideal for an outside meal, barbecuing, yoga, reading, family time, or just enjoying the serenity of nature and the lake. Our recent remodeling has kept some of the character of this 1933 summer home. The cozy cottage sleeps up to six people, making it perfect for a vacationing couple (or two) or a family. It has a medium size bedroom with a queen size bed, a small bedroom with a full size bed, and another queen size bed in the large downstairs family room. Upstairs there is a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and a living room with large french doors that open onto the upper deck with magnificent views of the lake. On the lower level is the living/recreation room (including a laundry area) which opens onto the water level deck. There are always areas on the deck to be in the shade if needed. There are two small parking spaces that will fit a maximum of two cars. Kayaks and a canoe are provided for your use at no additional charge. There is also a Huck Finn style raft to sit on or swim from or to untie and float around on. We also have old bikes, internet, DVD player, basic TV, and indoor games. If you choose, we have a paddleboard rental for $40. The cottage is removed from noise and bustle, and the quiet and beautiful lake makes it a really fun place to enjoy being part of nature. It is still just a 10 minute drive from Mystic-- a favorite tourist town, 5 area wineries, the Connecticut Shoreline, and 5 minutes from Foxwoods casino. If dates are full or if you are looking for a second rental nearby for a family and friends, please check out our other cottage on this same lake. We also have horseshoes, old bikes, internet, DVD player, basic TV, a few lawn games and indoor games. If you choose, we have a discount paddleboard rental for just $20. Guests may also enjoy a campfire with firewood provided at no charge. There is a hot tub that we can run. The owner has a small fee to do so. That being said, we consider the hot tub an amenity and not a major feature. Unlike a hotel or resort that has a team that checks the hot tub daily, our house person does so between guest stays, which can be from a few days to a week. Most of the time the hot tub is fine for guests to enjoy, but there are times, especially in the summer, there could be a ph change or something that may cloud the tub and may take time to clear. Last year near the end of the season we did have a mechanical issue that took a few weeks to rectify as we needed to order a part. Any hot tub fees were refunded to the guest. As mentioned in most cases the tub should be fine but if it is a major factor to your stay, we suggest a property that has multiple tubs or a hotel with a daily maintenance team.
