The SpaceBright, sunny second floor flat in Northcote/Thornbury (a very cool neighbourhood just 7kms from city) with two bedrooms, separate kitchen and light spacious lounge. The apartment is equipped with a washing machine and there is unlimited wifi. The apartment is a very cosy, comfortable space with lots of light and everything you need for a stay in Melbourne, and most importantly it is spotlessly clean! Even if you're only using it as a place to crash after a day of sightseeing, you want to know you're relaxing in a clean place with freshly laundered linen on the beds and soft towels in the bathroom. Being a 2-bedroom flat, it is best suited to groups of up to four. However, I can arrange a fold-out single bed and linen (and additional towels if required) for a fifth person (or just for those who don't want to share one of the queen beds) at a cost of $10/night. I'm also very family friendly, having a child of my own, and love having families stay. The only thing that I ask is that you are mindful of the close proximity of neighbours when it comes to noise. Please refer to the house rules. The apartment is in a block of 10 apartments, in a 70s-era brick building - it's not the prettiest of buildings from the outside, but inside is bright, sunny, clean and comfortable! Having previously been my home, the apartment is well appointed, and has lots of homely touches, including a bookshelf full of books. Minutes walk to High St cafes, bars, and an eclectic mix of shops. The apartment is fully furnished with all linen, towels, kitchen utensils and appliances provided. Fully furnished : - queen-sized beds in both bedrooms; - built in wardrobes - TV / DVD player - stainless steel oven & cooktop - microwave - all kitchen appliances - fridge - washing machine - secure and safe - big sliding windows let in lots of fresh air Reverse cycle heating/cooling. Lovely light & bright little flat that will sleep up to 4 people. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire apartment exclusively for their own use. They also can access a shared space at the back of the block where there are a number of shared clotheslines. They can also use the shared laundry on the ground floor, which has coin-operated clothes drier and washing machine. NB. The apartment is equipped with its own washing machine. Interaction with GuestsI like to leave my guests to enjoy their stay in Melbourne without interfering too much. I'll be in touch in the days leading up to your arrival to confirm what time you'll check-in. Late night check-ins are no problem. I'm available 24/7 on my mobile and email if there are any problems. I will then stay in touch via the odd text message or phone call to make sure everything is going smoothly. The NeighborhoodBefore all the hipsters moved in (just joking! We love hipsters!) Thornbury has historically been home to many Greek-Australians and Italian-Australians, so there are a plethora of great deli's and food stores. Now they sit comfortably alongside hip cafes, bars, health food stores and music venues, mostly along High St, which is just a few minutes walk. The flat is walking distance to these great sights and attractions: CERES Community Environment Park - a Community park and garden with a nursery, organic market, cafe and mini farm plots Merri Creek bike and walking path - takes you on a scenic route to the city without needing to ride / walk on the road Wesley Anne bar, eatery and live music venue Psarakos fruit & vege market - cheap fruit, veges, meat and fish only 10 minutes walk away Thornbury Theatre - live music venue Northcote Social Club - a great pub with good meals and a place to see some of Melbourne's finest bands Getting AroundCroxton Train Station (on the Epping line, also called the South Morang line) is 300m East and will take you to the CBD (Flinders Street Station) in 19 mins. For footy fans, you can get to the famous MCG in 14 minutes by train! Tram stop (Route 112) is 300m west, taking you directly to Brunswick St (Fitzroy) in 12 mins, Melbourne CBD in 22 mins and St Kilda in 50 minutes. Tram stop (Route 86) is 500m east, taking you down High St (Northcote) in 5 mins, then to Smith St (Collingwood) in 15 minutes and into the CBD in 25 mins. Off street parking is available for one car.

The SpaceWe live on the top floor of a big double storey brick house which is very comfortable, peaceful and conveniently located. The guestroom is also on the top floor, so there is just one set of stairs to climb. The bottom floor is occupied by tenants, whose living space is completely separate; we only share a laundry, downstairs. Your bedroom faces our much-loved garden, and is pleasantly quiet. You will hear birds - not buses. It is very comfortable and fully furnished with two single beds (either separated or together), a desk with chair and built-in wardrobe. The room has an adjacent private bathroom with a standing shower and a bathtub. All the essentials you might need are provided (towels, hair dryer, hair ties, moisturiser, soaps & shampoos etc). Right outside your room is a lovely balcony - which is great to eat breakfast on as it overlooks the sunrise. In summer-time we have an air conditioner, while central heating keeps us warm in winter. We have a comfy leather lounge-suite, large TV with cable, and an awesome copper fireplace. As we love to cook - and eat - our kitchen is spacious and well-provisioned with implements, pots, pans and dishwasher. We have a Nespresso machine, extensive tea selection and provide breakfast items such as eggs, bread, cereal, milk etc. The floor has an additional bedroom and study (for us), dining area and second balcony (even bigger, and with a couch - a wonderful reading spot). We have a large collection of board-games and books which you are welcome to enjoy. Perhaps best of all, is our garden. We love to tend to it and watch our veggies and flowers grow! There is lots of space to walk around, eat dinner outside or play a bit of table tennis. Nestled in a small building in the garden is our gym (shared with downstairs), complete with treadmill, boxing equipment, weights and bench. Guest AccessHaving travelled a fair bit ourselves, we have tried to provide everything we wished we had in a new place. Specifically, you can use: - Public transport cards ("myki") which are usually $6 to purchase - Basic foodstuff (tea, coffee, milk, eggs, bread, snacks and cooking condiments) - Laundry detergent - Local maps and brochures - High-speed WiFi - Umbrellas - Universal power adaptors - Board games and books - Fresh garden produce (as available!) Interaction with GuestsProbably the biggest reason we choose to host, is because we love to meet people from all over, and help them enjoy and get the most out of our city. Time and schedules permitting, we always take out time to learn about our guests, and put lots of effort into helping them feel at home. Kristen has recently completed study and is beginning work as a graduate in a law firm, while Ankit finishes up his PhD in Engineering. Sometimes we have busy periods, but we always love meeting people, good conversations, exploring places and discovering new foods. The NeighborhoodNorthcote has recently emerged as an edgy, fun and friendly hub. It is filled with lively food trucks, cafes, restaurants, quirky shops, bars and music venues (High Street – 1km). It is also great for walks, and links to scenic bike paths which are a wonderful way to experience Melbourne. Within a few hundred metres of our home, there are a few cafés which serve delicious breakfast/lunch, and a couple of small stores selling groceries and organic goods. For larger supermarkets or specialty shops, take a walk to either Northcote Plaza (1.3km) Station Street (1km), or High Street (1km). To spend time in the area, check out Fairfield Boathouse (1.5km) where you can rent a row-boat and pet ducks. We also live a couple of blocks from the local YMCA with indoor and outdoor pools, and one block from Johnson Park. Getting AroundMelbourne CBD is 6.5 km away, it is easily reached by train (20 min ride – 7 min walk ), bus (25 min ride – right outside door) or tram (30 min ride – 1 km walk). All modes of transport are close by. We are part-way between the airport and city, with taxi taking around half an hour and costing approx. $50. Walk up to High Street for excellent food and entertainment. Walk down to Station Street for a more relaxed atmosphere. Stroll around the suburb and discover the hidden cafés. Take a bus to the local mall (Northland). Rent a car and explore the surrounds of Melbourne (a good service is "car-next-door"). Other Things to NoteThe guest room is located directly above another bedroom downstairs. Sound can travel between these rooms, so we ask that our guests be mindful of this and refrain from loud noises late at night (as we similarly request of the tenants below).

The SpaceGuests have their own private room with a comfortable queen bed, desk and small sitting area. The large window looks north-east over a small sunny balcony filled with river stones and fresh herbs. The room also has a walk-in wardrobe with drawers, great for getting suitcases/packs out of the way. The room has a large television and DVD player, as well as a selection of DVDs, games, magazines and books. We have decorated the room with the works of local Australian printmakers and retro Melbournalia. Fresh linen and towels are provided. Guests will share our kitchen, bathroom and two living rooms with us and our two friendly cats, Aiko and Flux. The bluestone-floored bathroom has a shower/bath. Guests are welcome to cook in the kitchen and can use our pots/pans/utensils, crockery and cutlery. Guests are also welcome to use our washing machine. The polished concrete, downstairs floor of our townhouse is open plan, with glass along one entire wall. It contains the kitchen, a large dining table, a living room area and your hosts' workshop/artist's studio, plus a toilet. The guest room and your hosts' bedroom are at either end of the second storey, on which we have laid a parquetry floor. Also upstairs are the balcony, laundry and a relaxed living space with a very comfortable couch. Our home is full of books, music and the works of local artists, as well as various mementos from our travels. The room is in our home so we will be living together throughout your stay. However, there is plenty of space for guests who value their privacy as our home is split over two floors, with two separate living rooms plus a third sitting area within your own private room. We are more than happy to chat with guests and advise them on all that Melbourne has to offer. As Julian works from home most days, he is able to meet you at the station and/or greet you when you arrive. Northcote is one of the greatest neighbourhoods in Melbourne and a fantastic base from which to explore the city due to its close proximity to other interesting areas. Located just 6km north of the city centre, Northcote is a lovely old residential suburb but is nevertheless very vibrant and dynamic. We love Northcote because of the fantastic array of restaurants, cafés and bars, shops full of unique artisan products and local amenities. Some of the unique attractions within walking distance of our place are Ceres environmental park, the Merri Creek and Darebin parklands, Preston market, the Wesley Anne bar/restaurant/beer garden/bandroom, the Northcote Social Club pub and major music venue, and the gorgeous Westgarth art deco cinema. Our house is set 50m back from High St, the main street running through the inner northern suburbs, which is a great area to explore on foot. We also recommend hiring bikes as a great way to get around. There is a route 86 tram stop right in front of our place that will take you south to the city centre in 30 minutes, travelling via the popular districts of Northcote, Westgarth and Smith St, Gertrude St and Brunswick St in Fitzroy and Collingwood. Alternatively, walk or take the tram north to the lesser-known but super interesting suburbs of Thornbury and Preston, one of the most multicultural parts of Melbourne. A seven minute walk away is the train station that will take you to the city in 20 minutes. There are also a number of buses within easy walking distance that can take you to Brunswick and Fairfield within 15 minutes. Melbourne's main airport (Tullamarine) is unfortunately not well serviced by public transport. The Skybus will take you from the airport to the city centre in 20 minutes. From there, it is another 30 minutes by tram or 20 minutes by train to Northcote. Alternatively, a taxi from the airport to our place will cost about $45-50. (Please note that the TV in the guest room only plays DVDs, of which we have many in the room for you to watch. The air conditioner is in the lounge room adjacent to the guest room. Not actually in the guest room. The private car parking space can be made available only by prior arrangement) As this is our home, it's important to us that we feel comfortable with you as well as you with us. We are LGBTI friendly and welcome guests from any background. We also welcome children, however our house is not baby/toddler-proof and your children's safety is your responsibility. As noted, we have two beautiful cats so if you wish to keep your room cat-free, you will need to shut the door or you may well have a nighttime companion. The SpaceOur house is eclectic, fun and super comfortable. It is also in one of Melbourne's most creative precincts, inner city but with plenty of space. There are two bedrooms available, each carpeted with plenty of storage space. The main bedroom has a queen bed, big cupboards and a desk. The second room has a fold out double futon. The living room is large and has an open fire place. The modular couch can also double as extra sleeping space, good for kids. Our bathroom is completely original retro! Pink bath, pink basin, green tiles. The kitchen is clean and simple, with gas appliances and dishwasher, with a wall cut out that overlooks a large timber kitchen table. There are polished floor boards throughout the main living areas, and the entire house is serviced by hydronic heating (on a timer). Our house was built mid 20th century, so high ceilings and timber finishes all through. There is a large undercover area out the back decked out in full 60s splendour, and a back yard featuring a mix of cottage gardens and native plantings. The vegie patch is a pride of place. Our house is especially suited to families, or two couples. We have off street parking. We supply fresh bed linen and towels, soap, cooking utensils and some basic pantry items. Interaction with GuestsWe will be available on email at least once a day and there is a phone number for emergencies. The NeighborhoodNorthcote is a buzzy, happening neighbourhood. Separation Street is an active street that links directly with the main drag of High Street, about 8 mins walk from the house. This has everything including a large shopping plaza, but its vibe is more about boutique, cool little shops and bars. There's several live music venues, cool bars, and a good selection of options for eating out. The suburbs either side are Westgarth and Thornbury, which also have good places to eat and drink. The bus out the front goes to Brunswick which is a cultural eating mecca with yet more bars and shops (!), and Fitzroy is just 4 minutes away, with more buzz and things to do, including a range of good galleries. CBD is about 14 mins on the train. Whilst we are in the thick of action, the All Nations Park behind our house has several kid's playgrounds, native bush plantings, and loads of open space. At the far end of our street, approx 4 mins drive, is the Darebin Parklands, a massive green wedge of native bushland winding around the Darebin creek. We are also 4 mins away from the local pool and gym. Getting AroundWe are in public transport central! Bus out the front, tram about 8 mins walk away which goes to the CBD and on to the beach in St Kilda. Or there's the train station approx 15 mins walk away (or 3 stops on the bus) which is about 14 mins from the CBD. The house is located in a beautiful pocket of Northcote, in between High Street and Victoria Road. If you like food, you will find the house within a short walk of some outstanding cafes, bars and restaurants. We are also very lucky to have the Westgarth Cinema close by. THE HOUSE You will find out house at the very end of the street, in a lovely little pocket next to a school (which is great for people travelling with kids as its open on weekends!). After walking past our garden filled with native flowers and plant, you will enter into the lounge room which has a L-shaped sofa (seats three comfortably). From the lounge, you can watch all the action of the street or relax in front of the gas log fire in the colder nights. The adjoining large kitchen is fully stocked with all the cooking equipment you might need including a Smeg oven and a small dining table - but outside is a large six seater table where you can enjoy the garden. There are two bedrooms however only one is availble to guests (the other will be storing our personal belongings). The bedrooms has a queen bed and we can set up a portacot if needed. The bathroom has a huge shower with a luxurious rain shower head. OTHER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW! We also have a self-contained apartment at the rear of the garden, also rented out on Airbnb, and you may see guests passing by. They also have shared access to the back yard. WHATS IN THE HOUSE? The house has wireless internet and the beds will be made up for you with fresh linen, and towels. Basic essentials like tea, coffee, sugar, milk, jam and vegemite will be provided and there are shopping centres close by if you require more supplies. TRAVELLING WITH KIDS? There is a portacot available, as well as other essentials for babies and toddlers including a high chair and Stokke Flexi bath (which fits children up to 4 years). We also will have toys available in the cupboard which you are free to use! There are many parks within walking distance, and many cafes well set up for children (details will be included in the manual we send you!). Interaction with GuestsWe are traveling so won't see you, but I will email a comprehensive overview of the house a week before. The key will be accessible via a key box, and there will be people managing the property who are located close by and only a phone call away! The NeighborhoodWe are very well located for public transport and cafes and nightlife, as well as bike paths that can take you around Melbourne easily. Within a 10 minute walk of the studio is Westgarth village (with Palace Cinema and cafés and bars) as well as High Street Northcote (where you will find some amazing cafes, galleries, restaurants, pubs, kids stores, clothes stores - and anything else you can think of!). In the other direction (and also 10 minute walk) is Fairfield, with a village-like set of shops including more great cafes, restaurants and food stores. Fairfield also has a great fruit shop and supermarket. Closer to the city (about two suburbs over) is Collingwood and Fitzroy. You can get to Fitzroy and Collingwood easily by jumping on the 86 tram or even walking. Brunswick is also close by. Some of our favourite cafés and pubs are just around the corner and all are easy to walk to - Red Door Corner Store, Foxy Brown and 15 pounds, Pizza Meine Liebe and the Wesley Anne. There are food trucks parked just up on Ruckers Hill most nights (worth a trip for the city view), and we are close to many places that do take away food or home cooked meals. We are more than happy to steer you on the right direction, because who wants to cook when on holidays! We are located next to a school (Westgarth Primary School) and many of our guests have had grandchildren that go to the school. If you have children or grandchildren, the school is a great place for running around or playing soccer after school hours or on weekends. I've put a bunch of our favourite places in the Guidebook and would love your additions. Getting AroundThe PT Melbourne website is a great resource for figuring out how to get around on public transport. You need to use a Myki card to use public transport and its worth getting a Myki visit pass which has lots of tourist discounts. Other Things to Note***** Please note: Minimum of one week booking in January 2017 This house is our primary residence however we clear out all clothing and personal effects when people stay.

The SpaceOur home is a place you can come to at the end of a long day and know that you can relax and feel like it were your own home. We live on a quiet, centrally located street with every amenity at your finger tips. If you want cool local bars, restaurants, shopping as well as a peaceful retreat then you'll love Northcote. Our home is by no means luxurious, we don't have a brand new bathroom or kitchen with all the latest appliances, what we do have is eclectic tastes in both art and decor and our home reflects this with a mix of things we have collected over the years. We like to host people who are ok with the house not being brand new and 'shiny' rather those who appreciate a home that expresses who we are. Your room is a modest, clean, light filled quiet place to retreat to, with wi-fi, there are electric blankets and heating for the colder months and a fan for summer. Our friendly (old) dog Pip loves to meet new people and will often just follow you around the house. We love chatting to people about our neighbourhood and offering advice as to best tackle Melbourne. Enjoy a glass of wine in our garden, hang with us in the lounge, read a book in the sunroom or just retreat to your own room for some quiet time. Guest AccessWe want our guests to feel welcome and relaxed, the same thing we look for when we travel. Our home is your home, we want you to feel comfortable and at ease when you're here. You can use any of our facilities, fill the fridge, do a load of washing, put the kettle on, watch tv, access our books, play records, if you're unsure ask us and we'll be glad to assist. Interaction with GuestsWe love to chat about our travelling experiences and we're more than happy to give some tips on Melbourne, but we also understand and respect people's privacy. The NeighborhoodNorthcote offers some of the best bars, shops and restaurants in Melbourne. The Northcote Social Club is a renowned live band hot spot. A 10 min tram takes you to Fitzroy and Brunswick. There are also beautiful walking trails and Parklands near by if you want time out. At the end of our street we have a great cafe to sit and read the paper over a coffee. There is also a bottle shop to swing by on your way home and a supermarket for your convenience. Getting AroundA 2 minute walk takes you to the train station, while a 1 minute walk in the opposite direction takes you to the 11 tram which goes to the Docklands, or the 112 tram, which goes through the city and finishes in St Kilda, perfect for all the major attractions. A 15 min train ride to Melbourne's CBD and a 25 min cab to the Airport. We have two Myki cards that you can use while here. Other Things to NoteWe enjoy having people in our home and feeling like they are free to use it as they wish, however we'd rather that our place not be used whilst you are looking for more permanent accommodation. We prefer people who are here doing business or want to see and experience Melbourne as tourists rather than being on the couch all day trying to save money. Unfortunately our house just isn't designed to accommodate such needs.

Next to a peaceful park on a quiet street, just a short walk to the myriad of restaurants and live music venues Northcote has to offer. The room is perfect for a single person or couple on a short-term trip to Melbourne. High quality, low-maintenance indoor-outdoor living and entertaining is the emphasis of this architeect designed, double-storey home replete with a range of modern appointments including heating, cooling and Wi-fi. Guest AccessWashing machine available in laundry (we do not have a dryer, outdoor clothes line and indoor clothes racks with ample heating) and fast Wi-fi available to guests. We also share our spices, oils, basic cooking products and tea/coffee for you to enjoy as we know how annoying it is when you're on holiday and don't want to buy packets of essentials that you'll only use a small amount of! Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to have as little or as much interaction with our guests as they prefer. We both work full time, study part-time, play sport, catch up with friends - but we like to cook at home when we can too and hang out. So you'll get the best of both worlds. And we respect your privacy and space! The NeighborhoodWe love Northcote's arty, hipster (the friendly kind, not pretentious) vibe and the easy access to High Street's awesome variety of restaurants and live music. Of course, easy tram and train transport to the city and other areas of Melbourne such as Brunswick and Prahran make Northcote the winning inner-city area to live. Getting AroundSo easy - it's a 7 minute walk to Tram 86 on High St, 10 minute tram-ride to Brunswick & Smith Sts, Fitzroy/Collingwood and a 20 minute tram-ride into the CBD (peak hour can take a bit longer). You've also got Croxton train station another 2 minutes walk from the tram stop. Taxis usually cost about $15-20 from the city.
