Glamping is NOT new as the shepherds and woodmen did it 100's of years ago, this hut has been constructed to a high standard by the owner, who is a carpenter and joiner. It is as near to the original design, with rolling chassis and bed with storage under for your bags not the sheep. The materials have been resourced by using as much recycled materials as possible like the shepherd would have. Enjoy the unique wood walls, the 150 year old flooring from the Hovis factory and wood for all the windows and doors are from docklands in Liverpool. This hut is giving you the experience of this but with the luxury of an en-suite providing a hot shower, working toilet and sink, no eco toilet or needing to walk to another building for these facilities! The shepherds hut is set within the grounds of the game keepers cottage for Witherdon manor house, you will have your own privacy with your own decking area and the 450 acre woodland at your door. Enjoy the start of the day sitting on the shepherds hut steps with a fresh coffee or tea, enjoying the rabbits and a variety of birds that will visit your personal bird feeder and see how pretty our birds are, especially, the green finches, rare siskin, bull finches, pheasant and the lesser spotted woodpecker. You may hear the rare Cuckoo in its glory. In the evenings you will listen to the owls, calls of foxes or deer rutting. You may be lucky enough to see the deer moving through the woodland and even their young, or see them in the field next to you grazing in the evenings. you will experience the visiting pheasants and our neighbourhood Guinea fowl picking at the seed the wild birds have left on the floor. They do like the odd bit of bread too if you want to get up closer!! In the winter months you might see visiting birds like the woodcock and snipe in our woods. You will have easy access into Witherdon wood by following your private path where it offers you a variety of routes and see the original avenue of trees for the horse and coach to get to Halwill Junction from Witherdon Manor. This is an amazing place to do star gazing due to no light pollution, you will never see a sky like it. Watching the shooting stars going across the crystal clear sky whilst in front of the fire pit with your hot chocolate or glass of wine. Being in this area means that the phone signal may be weak and no internet. The idea is to escape so there is no tv in the shepherds hut. There is a radio with Bluetooth, books and games in your shepherds hut for you to enjoy. Or just nestle in front of the log burner in the evenings and on wet days hearing the rain but in the warmth of the hut which you will not want to leave. ( supply of logs and fire lighters provided) You will have use of a bbq (a bag of charcoal will be supplied) for the sunny days and a fire pit in the evenings to sit around. Parasol, deck chairs and separate seating areas around the private area, with the woodland and walks on your door step and a herb garden for the rosemary to put onto the lamb chops on the bbq!! This area is rich with places to visit, if you can pull yourself away from the shepherds hut.
We are lucky enough to live near a beaver conservation area where the land owner will introduce you to the life of a beaver. it will be a relaxed and informative visit into the enclosure which is self funded by the owner so to help with the conservation a donation of a minimum of £10 per person would be appreciated. it is not guaranteed that you will see them as they are good at hiding but it breath taking when you do. The visit will last up to 2 1/2 hours but walking amongst the beavers and their surroundings is fascinating if you enjoy wildlife!!
