The SpaceThis lovely, in-town, first-floor apartment is in a renovated 1800's historic Oak Bluffs cottage with landscaped gardens. It has a beautiful patio out the kitchen door with a hot tub, outdoor shower, and an outdoor designer Rais fireplace. The large and sunlit gourmet kitchen has skylights. This property can also be rented in it's entirety as one house instead of individually as two floors. See other Air BNB listing, "Historic1800s In Town/Beach 2nd Flr" for details and photos of the upstairs as well. Centrally located on Kennebec Ave with all the best restaurants, cafes and the clubs just one street away and the ocean only 2 short walking blocks through Ocean Park. Also located across the street from the famous Back Door Donuts - you can smell them from the house. Uh oh! The Tabernacle for outdoor concerts and events is a block in the other direction, the harbor is a couple of blocks down with lots more restaurants and bars. Oak Bluffs has everything! It is the jewel of the island. This apartment has ONE true queen bedroom, and ONE living room that can be closed off for privacy with a new queen pull out sofa. It does NOT have two true bedrooms. However, it is very often rented for 4 people and people really appreciate it turning up in their searches for 2 bedrooms, since the living room accommodations are indeed separate and lovely. This apartment is on floor 1 of 2. Guest AccessPlease note: This apartment accommodates up to 4 guests, with one queen bedroom and one living room that can be entirely closed off as a separate room, with a brand new queen Crate and Barrel sofa bed. The room can be closed off from the rest of the apartment for privacy with glass french windows and doors and curtains, and can have a separate entrance as well. There is one full bath (with shower and tub) in the apartment, and one additional shower outside, that I have heard is many guests favorite part of their stay! Outdoor showers are a wonderful Martha's Vineyard tradition. It is the jewel of the island. Other Things to NoteThe tale of a perfect little house I fell in love with this house the minute I saw it. It took me a full winter to be able to purchase the house because the owner did not want to disappoint another person who'd looked at the house previously, even though there was no contract of any kind. She risked losing the sale to do this, but felt it was only right to try to find this person who was by then out of the country and difficult to track down. She knew how much I loved the house, and after several long months she called to say it was mine if I still wanted it, and I could take a few days to let her know. I told her I didn’t even need a few minutes. No other house that I had seen captured my heart as this one had.  It took great amounts of work to prep this house to be my massage center, as it would be for some years before I could make it my home. One day, at my other massage center in Vineyard Haven, I interviewed a lovely massage therapist from Louisiana. I had no idea that she had a Vineyard connection, but I instantly knew she was special. I hired her on the spot and sent her here to do a massage on a client who had just come in. Twenty minutes passed, and the phone rang. “You are not going to believe this, Sharon, but this is the house my grandmother grew up in.”  Uma (grandmother in German), came right over the next day from West Tisbury, where she then summered, brought me this photo of her parents and this house as it was in 1908, and gave me a tour of the house, telling me where all the original details used to be. Uma was beautiful, and her granddaughter is beautiful, as was the previous owner. I just kept feeling that it was no wonder that it feels so special in here. Since that time, my friends, family and guests have only added to that beautiful feeling. Time and time again, people walk in and comment on the energy of the home. I feel it deeply myself. To top off all of this wonder, the last bit of amazement for me was the dog in the photo - a dog with a half black and half white face, split down the middle. On the other side of the couch, you can see the photo of my dog, Haffa, at the time. A dog with a half black and half white face, split down the middle, almost 100 years later. Life is magical, mysterious and beyond imagination.

The Space(house is not heated, so NOT available in winter) Guest room for 2 people to share may be available. During peak season (June - Sept) Friday and Saturday nights may require a min. 2-night stay in most cases, but contact host to double-check. Stays of 4 night max, June - September. Location, Location, Location! Charming, rustic, clean, Oak Bluffs campground cottage bedroom in shared house is available by the night. House is in the heart of Oak Bluffs, the most lively of the “down-island” towns—where all the FUN is but it's very private too! Just a short walk from town beach, ferries, shopping, dining, entertainment. House is adjacent to the incredible architecture of its fellow gingerbread cottages. Because this home is part of the historic Martha's Vineyard Campground Community, renters must be quiet after 11pm. House is on a fairly busy road, close to the road but has no neighbors so loads of privacy in house and side yard. House is shared only with husband and wife homeowners, no other guests. In season is $150 per night (most nights) for PRIVATE ROOM with own entrance and double bed. Guests have full access to shared bathroom, kitchen, yard and pretty much their own private porch and living room. (Share kitchen and bathroom with extremely quiet couple who will stay out of your way. You may not even see them!) No on-site parking for guest room stays. Parking is available right around the corner from the house. GPS might send you the wrong way. Once you book, call or email us for directions. It's super easy to get here. Guest AccessGuests have a private bedroom with use of the front porch and shared (but mostly private) use of living room, kitchen and bathroom and yard. airbnb has the WRONG zip code listed. It's 02557. Please email us for best directions once your booking is confirmed. Interaction with GuestsGuests have as much or as little interaction with us as they indicate they'd like. We give our guests a lot of privacy, steering clear of their part of the house as much as possible, but are also happy to chat, visit and advise if they invite it! The NeighborhoodThe general area, harbors, downtown and the Martha's Vineyard Camp Meeting Association are magical. Note however, that the house is on a somewhat busy street ("busy" being a relative term of course. We city folk think it's fairly quiet.) Getting AroundEverything in downtown Oak Bluffs (shops, restaurants, game rooms, carousel, chapels etc) is within walking distance, as are the bus stops and harbors. Buses can take visitors all over the island. There are also cabs and bicycle rentals. Though there are moped rentals, we discourage their use, and will not allow guests to store mopeds or motorcycles anywhere on the property nor in the private parking area across the street. Moped use on the island is very dangerous. Other Things to NoteGuests are expected to read the house rules and guidelines left for them in the room and to spend most of their stay out enjoying the island, weather permitting of course.

The Tabernacle for outdoor concerts and events is a block in the other direction, the harbor is a couple of blocks down with lots more restaurants and bars. Oak Bluffs has everything! It is the jewel of the island.

Please note, as of June 2015, a nearby park is undergoing construction which can be heard from the house. The house is a summer cottage without air conditioning or insulation. Given that, noise carries easily. There is a total of 8 bedrooms in the house; five of which are available for rental. Guests should be respectful of others staying in the house. Individual rooms do not lock. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to share all areas of the house, including the kitchen and outdoor grill. Breakfast is not provided but if you need another "B" in "BNB", you are welcome to borrow a Beach towel, Beach umbrella, or maybe even a Beach chair. We have a nice wrap around porch with rockers and dining area, perfect for quiet breakfasts or "attitude adjustment hour" . The Wifi signal in the house is not reliable so if you need to work during your vacation, you may have to walk a block to pick up the signal from the bowling alley (The Barn) down the street. Interaction with GuestsHost, Renee, is happy to interact if desired or not: up to you! I will be on premises during your stay, but promise not to be in your face! Other Things to NoteOur house is one hundred years old and we expect guests to treat her with respect. Sunday to Friday checkout is 11 am. Saturday checkout is 10am. Feel free to ask about storing bags on day of checkout. Ask for multi-night discount.
