The SpaceVisit and see why the New York Times listed Oakland #5 on their list of the top 25 places to visit!!! You will be renting a 1 bedroom with private bathroom in a 2bed/2bath unit. We live with a small energetic dog, so it is important that you are comfortable around animals. Location-wise, it is awesome. We are walking distance to BART, local and transbay bus lines, and the Marriott convention center. Like to exercise? Run around the 3 mile perimeter of Lake Merritt. Like cool restaurants and bars? The uptown area is filled with new restaurants, hipster bars, and music venues. Using the place as a central location to visit others in the Bay Area? You are walking distance from BART, the downtown bus stop, and the transbay bus line . If you are lucky enough to be here on the first Friday of the month, we are walking distance to the art district on Telegraph. It's really fun. There is no parking spot and because it is downtown, free parking is not easy. However, there are lots of parking garages in the near vicinity. You'll have access to the full kitchen so that you can cook to your heart's desires. We provide coffee, tea, and some sort of breakfast option (cereal, bread, or oatmeal). There is wifi, chromecast, wii, and a bunch of dvds. Small dogs are okay with advance notice as long as they are potty trained. There is a $25 cleaning fee for dogs. Please give at least one day advance notice when making reservation (2 days or more would be preferable). I try to be flexible with check-in, so please state your preferred check-in time when booking. Bedroom, private bathroom, and common area. The complex also has a rooftop BBQ with a gas grill and a doggy relief area. Guest AccessBedroom, private bathroom, and common area. The SpaceEach apartment in this building encompasses and entire floor. In this particular apartment, you will have the 8th floor all to yourself! Guest AccessYou will be able to access the lobby of the building and the 8th floor unit+patio. The master closet is the only locked portion of the home when guests stay. Interaction with GuestsWe will not be available during your stay. The NeighborhoodOakland is the new creative hotbed of the San Francisco Bay Area, and this apartment lies in the center of the action. Getting AroundThe home is right about 19th Street BART station. It's a 15-minute direct ride into downtown San Francisco! Other Things to NoteThe weather in Oakland is temperate year-round. Like many buildings here, there is no central air / heating system in this 103-year-old building. However, there are small electric heating units built into the wall in each room (including bathrooms) with a wall switch. These heating units are rarely used. They are also prone to automatic shut-off if they've been running for too long. Simply put, please don't expect a robust heating system. We reside here year-round and live comfortably through the fall and "winter" with minimal use of these heaters. As they say in the Bay Area, it's all about layers! That includes good down comforters. :)

The SpaceYou'll have a carpeted bedroom with a king sized bed in a two level condo. The room has a hanging closet and desk. There's a very large kitchen with modern stainless steel appliances, including a dishwasher and a gas range with a full hood. There is also clothes washer & dryer in the unit and one and a half baths including an electric bidet. The living room and separate dining room overlook peaceful chinatown. I can transform the king sized bed can into two separate twin beds if you desire. The four and a half inch king size memory foam topper must come off, however, and you'll just have regular spring mattresses. Guest AccessYou may enjoy the entire condo, kitchen, living room, dining room, both bathrooms and of course the laundry. Interaction with GuestsI live far on the other end of the hallway from your room. I work in San Francisco most days. The NeighborhoodThis condo in Chinatown is precisely in between the Uptown neighborhood, Old Oakland, Jack London square and Lake Merritt. All of these neighborhoods have great food, bars, coffee, artists, music and spontaneous events within walking distance. I've tried to provide a couple highlights in my guidebook, but it's growing rather fast and there's a new best something nearly every week. Chinatown is a safe, quiet refuge just two blocks from all the hip things and going's on. Getting AroundYou can walk to most everything in downtown Oakland. I don't own a car. 12th St. BART is two blocks away. BART takes 15 minutes to SF. 10 minutes to Berkeley. There are also quick busses to Berkeley and other locales. Uber & Sidecar go everywhere cheaper than taxis. There's metered street parking (you can pay remotely with your phone) and a couple affordable parking garages nearby. Search for 'parkopedia' for details. Other Things to NoteI have WiFi Internet Access. I have no TV.

The SpaceI've lived all over the Bay Area and this is certainly a rare space. Hidden at the top floor of the Excellent Commercial Center you would never know this secret gem is here (thus the posting title). The layout is bi-level and very spacious giving it a loft/condo-like feel, although technically it’s an apartment. The lower level is comprised of a living room lit by a large skylight and 25 foot ceilings, a modern kitchen equipped with marble top counters and updated appliances (including a dishwasher), a half bath, in-unit washer and dryer, and an open air patio great for outdoor BBQs, relaxing, and stargazing. There is hardwood flooring throughout and modern mid-century styling. Upstairs there are two bedrooms (yours being the master) divided by a long hallway and a full bath, which is a great sound barrier and nice for privacy. The room for hire is rather large (as big as some studio apartments) however there is only one window which overlooks the living room and skylight shining down. You would have a queen bed, exposed hanging closet, and a modern convertible couch which folds out into a full queen, providing enough space to sleep 4 rather comfortably. Our preference is to rent to a single or couple but we are certainly open to hosting up to 4 given particular circumstances- just send us a message. We also have another listing for our other room that we just created and is rented on occasion when we are away https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/8103410 (it doesn't have any reviews yet because we just offered it to guests through this listing before but now we need two listings). Guest AccessYou would have access to the entire house (except our bedroom). This includes washer/dryer, internet, heat/air-conditioning, patio, everything we have :) The room is furnished with sheets and comforter. Towels can be provided as well upon request. Interaction with GuestsWe are both social and friendly and happy to share a glass of wine, cook a meal, watch a movie together, or provide some good recommendations in the area. I am a relationship/love coach with a primary office in Alameda, although I tend to work from home Wednesday through Friday. A best match would be someone here for work or school or someone that plans to be out of the house most daytime hours (however this isn't required at all). If you tend to be a little more of an introvert, we are also quite happy keeping to ourselves. Just let us know what vibe you desire and we will do our best to provide the coziest environment possible :) The NeighborhoodWe are in the heart of Chinatown in downtown Oakland. This area is bustling during the day but is generally quiet around 8pm. We are central to a ton of great restaurants and nightlife venues. Honestly, this is the most convenient area of Oakland. Typical to most downtown city areas, expect some homelessness, graffiti, metered parking, et cetera. This isn't a scary area of Oakland but it is a downtown area so not ideal for grandparents or people looking for a suburban atmosphere. Getting AroundWe are 3 blocks away from the 12th street Bart station (15 minute ride to downtown SF-an easier commute to SF than many places within SF!), and a 1/2 mile to Lake Merritt, Jack London Square, and the hip Uptown District. This area has a 99 walking score and is pretty much a walkers/bikers paradise. If you are coming carless, this area is a dream. If you own a car there are some lots nearby where you can purchase a space for a month. Otherwise, its mostly metered parking Mon-Sat 8am-6pm. Other Things to NoteYou would be sharing space with a very chilled out married couple who have active social lives and positive vibes

The SpaceGorgeous Historic Victorian property with a location where convenience is second to none. You'll be steps from BART, nightlife, restaurants, etc. most downtown living is in a condo or high rise, this is one of very few actual homes left in downtown that has survived earthquakes, fires and major development. You'll be staying in the rear where you'll enjoy private access, a landscaped patio, views of the city hall clock tower which lights up at night, although you are staying in a historic property- it has every modern feature and functionality. The couch is actually a full size futon which can be used for sleeping. Guest AccessYou have full access to everything in the unit. I do not live in the space so there are no personal effects, everything in the unit is for the enjoyment of my guests. You can use the patio outside, every dish, towel, soap, and eat all the food in pantry if you choose to. Interaction with GuestsWe can interact as much or as little as you like. If you need anything you shouldn't hesitate and I'll do my best to accommodate you. I will respect your privacy and schedule, so I'll never initiate the stop and chat when we cross paths. The NeighborhoodThe location has a big upside. It's right in Downtown Oakland and the price is a good value compared to nearby hotels. 5 minute walk from the BART, 10-15 minute walk from Uptown, Old Town, Chinatown, and Jack London Square. There's a ton to do close by. The Good Walk 5 minutes to BART station and you’ll be a 15 minute ride away from San Francisco. You can actually get BART at the SF airport, and end up 5 minutes walking from our front door. During the day you’ll enjoy the hustle and bustle the working crowd heading into the City, State and Federal buildings. Thanks to these major municipals building there are tons of coffee shops and great lunch spots within 5 minutes walking (Starbucks, Peets Coffee, Jamba Juice, Bagel Street Café to name a few). There is also a corner store on the same street that literally has everything. At night you’re 5 – 10 minutes walking or a $6 UBER/ LYFT away from bars, restaurants, music and art venues of Uptown, Downtown, Oldtown, & Jack London Square. The Bad This is a downtown urban area, lots of noise associated with it, buses, cars, a busy fire station within 2 blocks. Properties are built on zero lot lines so you'll hear the neighbors in the building to the rear on their patio at night and early morning, sometimes all night. You'll also see bums hanging around as this is downtown, they're harmless but unsightly and often loud as they argue amongst themselves. If you're a light sleeper, this is NOT the place for you. No guest has EVER been mugged, harmed, car broken into etc. The 23-30 year old demographic usually love this building and area. If you're older than that, there is probably just too much excitement around here for you to enjoy your stay. There are half million dollar condo’s right across the street, and they've paid lots of money despite these bums sitting on their doorsteps and being loud all hours of the day and night. The Downtown Marriott is 5 blocks away, triple the price, and you’ll deal with the same issues. The state building, federal building, and City of Oakland offices and City Hall, are directly across the street, the majority of people with a government jobs in Oakland have adjusted to the everyday occurrences with the neighborhood. This location has a huge upside however there is a trade off, you either want to be close to BART in the heart of Downtown and are willing to stomach this, or you don’t. Getting AroundThis location is best suited for people who will be using public transportation during their stay. The typical person who lives in this building long term does not have a car, it’s too close to BART and parking costs. UBER/ LYFT is so cheap from this location, I can’t imagine any trip in the area being more than $7. BART is 5 minutes walking, The neighborhood has a 24 hour safety patrol which you can use to walk to home, to BART, or to a bar and whatnot at night. It’s really easy to use, you just call them and they’ll meet you in matter of minutes ( I have their pocket cards inside of the unit so you can keep with you). Honestly this service isn’t necessary as no one will bother you, it’s just a service that the downtown business owners decided they wanted to pay for to encourage people to stay out later and patronize their new bars and restaurants. They know that many recent transplants to Oakland aren’t as comfortable and the area takes some getting used to. Other Things to NoteThere are 3rd party parking lots on both sides of the property which are operated by the same company. $14 Monday thru Friday; free evenings & weekends (monthly rates also available). The TV is a SMART TV, we get basic channels and there is Netflix. I have some negative reviews about Wifi but I've since upgraded the service and it's super fast and reliable now.

The SpaceTHE SPACE: The apartment is located on the third floor of a 3 story building. No elevator so you should be able to walk up stairs (2 flights). There is a bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom (no living room). The bedroom has a full bed and there is a futon that folds down to be a second bed (linens are in the nightstand next to it). BATHROOM/KITCHEN/FOOD: - There are towels in the bathroom cabinet. - There are various sample size toiletries that you may help yourself to if you need to. - You can use the kitchen for cooking if you like. - There is a bag of coffee in the cabinet and a french press for your use if you would like to make coffee. - Milk/coffeemate in the fridge for your use. - You are also welcome to help yourself to cereal or bagels. - The water pressure is a bit weak. - California is experiencing a drought so please keep showers and to a minimum and be mindful when using the sink. PET FISH I recently adopted a red beta fish named Leeroy. He's very easy to get along with and won't trouble you at all. Would need the guest to feed him during their stay (which involves a pinch of fish food once per day). Guest AccessYou have the entire apartment to yourself. There is a shared laundry room on the basement level with coin operated washers and dryers. Interaction with GuestsI will not be here but am available by phone at ANY time. ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) The NeighborhoodThe location is great! The apartment is downtown so the area is full of eateries, bars, restaurants (Thai, Afghanistan, Chinese, Greek, pizza) and cafes. On the weekends, its a vibrant atmosphere and all of Oakland's city events - First Friday, farmer's market, bike party - are close by and the Fox and Paramount Theater are within walking distance. 2 blocks away is the lovely Lake Merritt, which is great for walking/jogging (it's 3.4 miles to go around the lake). Chinatown is also within a few blocks so be sure to try some delicious pork buns while you're here. Oakland is diverse and multicultural city with a lot of character. The apartment is in downtown Oakland so you can expect to see graffiti, art studios, clothing boutiques, multicultural restaurants, fancy coffee shops, art murals and of course more graffiti. Getting AroundEverything is walkable (food, shops, lake etc) and its a mere 4 blocks from BART. The apartment is in between the 12th st and 19th street bart stops so you can board at either one. San Francisco and Berkeley are about a 10-15 min drive or bart ride away. Napa, Marin, Sonoma, Santa Cruz, Pescadero, and Monterey are all accessible for day trips. Parking: It's downtown so street parking is metered. There are paid parking lots all around, including next to the building. The lot right next to me is $7-$9 during business hours M-F and $2 nights and weekends. There is also covered parking in a nearby garage for $15 -$20 per day. Other Things to NoteKEYS: - The keys are located in a lockbox that is hanging from the gate at the front entrance (the black/grey lockbox). - The code is the last 4 digits of your phone number. There are 2 keys. The silver key is for the gate, the fox key is for the door . - The gate key works for the front gate, the laundry room (which is coin op and in the basement) and the side gate in the parking lot. - Please leave the keys in the lockbox when you check out. PARKING: - Unfortunately the apartment doesn't have included parking. There is a paid lot however right next to the apartment building. It's $2 per day to park on nights and weekends (super cheap). Otherwise you can park on the street but keep in mind that it's metered parking (downtown) on Saturdays till 6pm.
