The SpaceWelcome to our family home on our small working farm not far from Oamaru. We love our peaceful farm location. Here you will find all the aspects of a rural lifestyle, yet the township of Oamaru is only a 5 minute drive away!
Our rural farmstay/homestay is located less than a 10 minute drive from the Historic Victorian Precinct and Blue Penguin viewing in Oamaru, so you get the best of both worlds! For a memorable experience why not spend a night or two immersed in the culture of a small working farm and get to know the locals.
Guest accommodation is within our spacious family home which is nestled amongst trees and gardens on a hillside. We farm a total of 200 acres, mainly beef cattle as well as a small number of sheep. In Kiwi terms our farm is considered to be on the small side, however a stay with us will give you an insight into the farming lifestyle.
We have pet sheep which can be hand fed and patted, as well as 3 friendly farm dogs, alpaca, house cats Tansy & Prim, Greta the naughty goat, chickens and ducks. From late August to early October we also hand rear calves and orphaned lambs so guests staying during that time have the opportunity to pitch in and help.
In spring and summer we usually have an extensive vegetable garden growing which you are welcome to explore.

Access to the farm itself is restricted. A member of our family will guide you on the farm tour to feed the animals. You are welcome to go walking but please ask first to find out safe areas - we fatten bulls which can be quite dangerous. Interaction with GuestsWorking from home gives me the freedom to be around however some times life gets really busy and time is precious. We do however really enjoy meeting folks from all parts of the world and have in the past had some interesting and entertaining conversations which are the rewarding part of hosting guests.
I'm usually available to answer any questions you may have :) The NeighborhoodWe love the uniqueness of Oamaru, and it is home to wonderful Victorian buildings made from Oamaru stone including the Opera House, Museum and a collection of historic buildings in Harbour Street. They even hold a Victorian Heritage Celebration in November. There's a fabulous Farmers Market held in the Victorian Precinct every Sunday, where you can purchase local produce, visit arts & crafts shops, see local shopkeepers dressed in Victorian style clothes.
If you enjoy bird watching then just down the road us you will find Devils Bridge Wetlands. And on the subject of birds - Oamaru is home to Blue Penguins and Yellow Eyed Penguins - its a bit of a bird lovers paradise really!
What else can you find around Oamaru? There are coastal walks and mountain bike riding - the Alps2Ocean Bike Trail passes by Oamaru. Steampunk has set up headquarters here so make sure you check out their displays. The local Oamaru Gardens are a sight to behold, especially in springtime. And did I mention there are some amazing cafes & bakerys around town? Just out of town is Riverstone, an award winning restaurant with amazing vegetable gardens and gift shop. Oamaru is the perfect base for daytrips to Elephants Rocks & Vanishing World, Moeraki Boulders, the lakes, Kurow and its winerys.
