The SpaceWe live in a 3-story brick Victorian home listed as a City of Oberlin Historical Site. We've been open as a B&B since 2012 and have great reviews on TripAdvisor (we received Certificates of Excellence in 2015 and 2016). We've managed our listings through airbnb.com since the beginning of 2016. You will find here a peaceful base from which to plan your Oberlin activities. Emphasis is on comfort and relaxation. Please be aware that the second bed is a rollaway cot or air mattress (depending on availability and preference). Both come with sheets, blankets, and pillow and are pretty comfortable. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use the living room which has chairs, sofa, games, and internet/cable tv. The side porch is great for sitting and reading during the warmer months, and the backyard is also accessible (say hi to the chickens!). The dining room is available for meals and we're happy to provide plates, glasses, and silverware but we do ask that guests clean up after themselves. We would appreciate that the dining room be vacated by 8PM so that we can dine there. The kitchen is not available for cooking although it is fine to store some food items in the refrigerator and the pantry. Private areas are clearly marked with a sign. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to provide information about restaurants, things to do, directions, etc. We enjoy getting to know our guests but will not intrude if you're a more private person. The NeighborhoodOberlin has lots of great restaurants, and social and cultural activities are more or less non-stop, especially when the College and Conservatory are in session. We can help you find food and things to do that will appeal to you. Getting AroundThe bad news is, there is no public transportation in Oberlin although taxis and car services are available. The good news is, once you get here you will probably be able to walk just about anywhere you want to go. Bicycles can be rented from the student bike co-op and from the local bike shop, Swerve. Other Things to NoteIf you are here in connection with Oberlin College or Oberlin Conservatory, know that we are only a half block away, and only 2 blocks from the main downtown Oberlin area. We offer a full prepared breakfast for an additional charge on some (but not all) mornings. Advance notice is required and one non-resident guest may be invited. A breakfast menu will be available in the room. Breakfast is served between 8 and 9AM.

The SpaceThis is a lovely, clean, light filled space, with real plaster walls, hardwood floors, and curtains made of handloomed sari fabric imported from Orissa, India. A small desk/table can be used for work or for your breakfast, tea, or snack. We supply coffee and tea--and if you let us know your preference, milk, soy milk, or almond milk. Yogurt, beer, wine, and juice are in the refrigerator. The cupboard is stocked with snacks, packaged soups, instant oatmeal, granola, muesli. Light cooking in the microwave. We supply dishes, glasses, cutlery, napkins, etc. Guest AccessWe do not share the house. Guests use the side entrance, from the driveway, and its stairway, which does not go into the main part of the house. Upon request, you are welcome to use the washer and dryer in the basement, as well as an iron and ironing board. Interaction with GuestsWe must be available at your arrival to introduce you to our dog, Yoshi, and show you the room. Check in times are 3-9 pm. The NeighborhoodThis is in the heart of Oberlin's historic neighborhood, in a beautiful large home built in 1901 by Julia Brainerd Hall, through the financial generosity of her younger brother, Charles Martin Hall. She lived here with her two other unmarried sisters. Julia was a chemistry major at Oberlin, and her younger brother followed in her footsteps. She participated in his discovery of the method to make aluminum commercially. When his patent rights were challenged, her excellent laboratory notes and depositions were crucial in his winning the rights. She is considered by some to be a co-discoverer. Julia and Charles remained correspondents, and she advised him on many matters. After his death, one of her sisters married and moved to Rochester. She and the remaining unmarried sister moved there, as well. The house was then occupied by their oldest brother, a minister, and his family. We are only the fourth owners of this 115-year-old home! You will feel safe and comfortable in this lovely neighborhood surrounded by homes built at the turn of the 19th/20th centuries. Getting AroundFor rides to and from the airport or around the area, check the Oberlin College Classifieds: (URL HIDDEN) A number of locals and students offer rides at very reasonable prices. If you are staying for any amount of time and want a bicycle, try the Oberlin Bike COOP. Oberlin is a walking town, and we are two (long) blocks from the campus/music conservatory and downtown. Our favorite restaurants are Wild Mango and the Black River Cafe on Main Street and the Indian Restaurant on East College. The Fev on Main Street serves a famous Sunday brunch. The favorite meeting place in town is the Slow Train (coffee house) on East College--free WiFi, seating in the courtyard in good weather. Great coffee, pastries, and atmosphere! If you need a haircut, massage, facial, pedicure--Adeva Salon and Spa on College Street, near the intersection with Main, is highly recommended. The stylists are first rate. The Ben Franklin on College has just about anything you might need. For gorgeous clothes and an amazing bead collection, visit Bead Paradise on College. Also check out Ade's store on Main Street for African art, textiles, jewelry, and interesting clothes. A health food store is located in the parking between the Conservatory and Main Street. Check with us if there is anything you need, and we can direct you. Other Things to NoteWhen you arrive, please telephone Dyane at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). You can pull into the driveway just behind the garage and unload your luggage next to the side door (see photo on listing). We supply luggage stands for you, as well as hangars on hooks behind the entry door.

Getting AroundOff street parking at the residence. Other Things to NoteThe restaurants in Oberlin are fantastic! Being a "food snob" I feel confident that guest will find a cuisine to fit their pallets and need for thoughtful ingredients. Indian, Asian, Chinese, Mexican, Middle Eastern ......and the list goes on!!! Pancakes *red raspberry, *blueberry, and even *vegan, served with real maple syrup is a cuisine -right? Okay perhaps not but available at the Black River Cafe. As a beach girl ----- let me tell you about a gem of a Lake Erie beach called Huntington Beach in Bay Village, Ohio. An easy 30 minute drive and you will find a well tended, safe, and clean beach. There are quite a few stairs to reach the water but with the tree filled cliffs it feels private.

The SpaceI've improved this circa-1915 house over the past seven years, and it's now homey, comfortable, and in great shape for guests. The home is located on a large, fenced lot in town with a front yard, back parking area, and (untended) back yard beyond. Because I live here occasionally, some of my personal effects (such as books) will be left out. You're welcome to enjoy them -- just please return them where they were. Guest AccessIn addition to its three bedrooms (one down, two up) and two bathrooms (one on each floor), it includes: - a foyer/music room with large, butcher-block desk for comfortable work while gazing outside; - a living room with movie projector and specially-painted wall (adapter might be required -- check with me); - a kitchen renovated down to the studs in 2010; - a utility room with washer and dryer for your use; - a backyard with parking space for at least three cars. One room and the garage will be unavailable to you. (I suppose you can go into the basement if you want, but it's dank as hell. ;) ) Interaction with GuestsI travel frequently and will rent out the place when I'm away. A local couple has agreed to manage it; they live a few blocks away. My immediate neighbor, who is also a handyperson, is also available for emergencies. You'll have both numbers. The NeighborhoodThe home is an easy walk to Oberlin College (3 blocks) and downtown (2 blocks). It's pleasant to sit out on the porch on nice nights and smoke and watch folks go by. Caveat: It's on one of the state routes that passes through town, about a block away from where the other state route intersects it. It's in an area with some student rentals, so there might be a bit of noise on warm weekend evenings. But generally it's fine. Getting AroundYou can get anywhere within Oberlin by foot, and parking in town is free and widely available. There's virtually no public transit, however; contact me for tips, or search for ride providers by searching online for "Oberlin Classifieds". Other Things to NotePets are allowed only if you can keep them downstairs. (I want to keep the upstairs clean for people with allergies.) I have a gate for you to install at the bottom of the stairs; if your pet can jump over it (about 2-1/2 feet), I'm afraid this place won't work out for you. Tobacco smoking is allowed only outside (including on the porch). Other substances may be smoked or vaped in the bathrooms, with the vents on.

The SpaceYou'll enter from the side door into the kitchen, which has a breakfast nook overlooking the back yard. There is also a dining room with a table that seats six. The living room has two couches and a television with (very) basic cable. The front bedroom has a queen bed, and the back bedroom has two twin beds. There is also an office with a day couch that has a trundle bed underneath. Off this room is a sun room / porch that is perfect for relaxing with a drink and gazing out into the back yard. While the house is not wheelchair accessible, there are hand rails up the few steps to the kitchen and in the bathroom, making this one-story house friendly to people with minor mobility issues. Guest AccessGuests can access the whole house, including the washer/dryer in the basement. The free standing garage is not accessible to guests. Interaction with GuestsIf it is important to you or you are a long-term guest, we will try to meet you in person when you check in. Otherwise, we are available via text/phone/email to answer any questions you have. Do not hesitate to reach out if you need anything! The NeighborhoodThis is a quiet, residential neighborhood of mostly older homes right across from the hospital and two blocks from campus. Getting AroundAlmost anything you'd want to do in Oberlin is walkable from the house, but if you drive, there is usually street or lot parking everywhere. However, if you are coming for a special event like commencement, I highly recommend that you walk, as there will be many more cars than usual downtown.

Ref # 379404 Because we focus on monthly rentals, we do not accept bookings with a gap between move in date and availability date. We generally require move in dates to be within 7 days of the availability date. This colorful, thoroughly updated purple Victorian cottage greets visitors with bay windows and a red door. Abundant windows throughout, in addition to a huge skylight and French doors that open onto the flower-laden deck, make the inside remarkably bright and open. The color-splashed interior is compact but very livable, and filled with folk art collected during the owners’ extensive international travels. The upstairs features the kitchen, dining and living area as well as one bedroom and full bath; downstairs are a bedroom/office, office, and full bath, equally whimsical and colorful. Owners have an extensive library of books, maps, etc. of San Francisco and Northern California. LOCATION DESCRIPTION NEIGHBORHOOD: RUSSIAN HILL You just can't find a better location in San Francisco. This fairy tale cottage, located on a charming alley, is very quiet despite being in the very heart of the city. The alley is half a block away from the Hyde Street cable car line, which runs between Ghirardelli Square on the Bay and the famous stores and theaters around Union Square. Multiple bus lines intersect streets surrounding the house, which also is within an easy stroll of grocery stores, pharmacies, wine shops, boutiques, wonderful restaurants and cafés, and a multitude of coffee shops. Walkers will love being able to step out the front door and head to Chinatown, North Beach, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Financial District, Downtown-Union Square, the Marina District and Marina Green, the Presidio, and Crissy Field. Incredibly convenient for taking a stroll or bus to watch sailing events on the Bay. Charming restaurants and small businesses cluster on leafy Hyde Street between Jackson and Union Streets, and Polk Street is crowded with unusual boutiques, antique shops, trendy restaurants and night spots. A mini French quarter has sprung up around Polk and Green, where you'll find La Folie, THE restaurant where French chefs eat when visiting San Francisco; La Boulange, a traditional café-boulangerie; a French antiques store, and several French-influenced gift and home décor shops. Russian Hill is a residential neighborhood with pockets of restaurants and shops. The views from the hills are ddazzling. The neighborhood got its name when gold rushers found seven Cyrillic-inscribed gravestones at the top of the hill. Consensus on the identity of the Russian men buried there -- they were reputed to be anything from sailors to fur trappers -- was never reached, the gravestones disappeared in the late 1800s, and the Russian influence has long since dissipated.
