The Space"The Terraces" is the life long dream of founder, Stacey Richards. It was created to provide an environment for people to learn about their health and nutrition, as well as provide a venue for community activities. In Hawaii we have a word: "Ohana". Now, the literal meaning of Ohana is family. but the way it is often used is to describe a guest house or spare bedroom, because that is where your Ohana would stay. So at The Terraces we try to provide both. A place to rest your head and a place where you feel at home. The Terraces is a place where you are treated as Ohana. We are glad to have you on the island, and believe that most businesses try to color your Hawaii experience one way or another. The point of our farm, is that we don't. Hawaii is a beautiful place. Where you can have fun all day, and always come back to our Ohana and yours. "The Terraces" is a educational and demonstration sustainable farm. Located on the south side of Hawaii's Big Island. We specialize in every thing from fresh food, to the Hawaii experience. But every thing we do here we do with love, a smile, and the Aloha spirit. The Terraces' motto is, "where small things matter, choose wisely." Our mission is to provide an environment in paradise, where you choose your vacation. We have every thing from vegetables and meals, to Big Island knowledge. But that is far from the end product. Here we are trying to make a place, a home, and a foundation for the Hawaii experience YOU want. We have good cell phone service, and parking and we can tell you about many of the "secret spots" in Hawaii ... but we do not have cable TV and internet access is via cell phone link. We have plenty of fresh air and a 2980 foot elevation that makes air conditioning or heating obsolete. At night you can look out and on a clear night, see all the stars in the Milky Way that you miss in more "civilized" locations. The suite has a large bedroom, large living room and bathroom. Infant and child beds, as well as floor mats are available. Teens and older children are welcome to sleep in our son's tree house, as he and his friends did many, many, nights. Local attractions include: South Point, Green Sand Beach, Black Sand Beach (Punulu'u), the fishing village of Milolii, Nahalehu, Manuka State Park, Wood Valley, Road to the Sea, Hookena, Whittington Beach State Park, Pahala, coffee farms and Wood Valley. Local activities include: hiking, swimming, snorkeling, ocean side cliffs for jumping and diving, snorkeling, volcanoes, lava hikes, dolphin swims, and whales (in season). We are neither a B&B nor a restaurant so we can not serve meals and charge for them. However, sit-down dinners are important to us. We welcome our guests, as friends, to eat with our family and contribute what they will toward the cost of food and preparation as a donation ... we have no hard and fast rules, we just want to keep it revenue neutral. We solicit your preferences and see meals as enjoyable social occasions, just let us know when you want join us and we will try to accommodate you, or if you need to have any box lunches made for your excursions.. Guest AccessTheir accommodation and bathroom/shower (of course), the grounds and sitting areas and the basketball court. Basically, everything except our room, or other guests' rooms, and the few area's marked "Private," as long as it does interfere with farm work Preparing a light breakfast and lunch is fine, preparation of separate evening meals may, however, present a problem. We solicit your preferences and see meals as enjoyable social occasions, just let us know when you want join us and we will try to accommodate you, or if you need to have any box lunches made for your excursions. Interaction with GuestsWe find that some guests want to "move in" and be part of the local community and even, on occasion, the family ... that's fine, others want an efficient and comfortable base to operate from on their vacation with a minimum of interaction, we respect and honor that approach too. The NeighborhoodThe Hawaiian Ocean View Estates development consists of 10,697 1-acre lots north of the Hawaii Belt Road in the western part of the District of Kaʻū. The terrain varies from rugged lava fields to ohiʻa trees and other vegetation. Elevation ranges from about 1,500 ft (460 m) up to the 5,000-foot (1,500 m) level. Initial sales began in the late 1950s. The original developer of HOVE was the Crawford Oil Company. Later, other subdivisions were put in place downslope of HOVE and the Hawaii Belt Road. In the early 1980s a service station and a hardware store were built. In January 2004, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park purchased the nearby property previously known as Kahuku Ranch. In 1989 the Ocean View Town Center was developed and the Ocean View Road Maintenance Corporation began an extensive rebuilding program of the roads. Shortly thereafter the Ocean View Development Corporation started a new market which included a laundromat and restaurant. Ocean View now has three shopping centers. There are now three gas stations, three grocery stores, a hardware store and and four restaurants. Ocean View has a post office with the ZIP code of 96737. Getting AroundThere are Buses twice daily to Kona and Hilo except on Sunday, schedules may be found by searching for "heleon bus Hawaii" Other Things to NoteThe 13.5% tax is already added to the daily rate. We have a 600 foot long gravel driveway. Some people find it a challenge at first. We have learned that if you drive a tiny bit faster than you think you should and keep your tires from churning it is really quite easy. If you stop, it can be difficult to get going again. There is an easy technique for this that we'll be glad to show you. If you are at all uncomfortable, we will drive you up and down and show you how, or you can park at the cabin and we'll fetch you with our 4x4.

The SpaceTim's artwork is evident from the moment you enter our driveway. It is a continuing process with new creations added frequently. Our organic farm on two acres provides a lot of our food. Thirty years of loving the land, composting, etc. has now provided us with soil to farm. We live lightly on the land and love to share what has worked and what has not. Guest AccessThere is a small kitchen, one queen bed and twin bunk beds. The shower and bathroom are adjacent. Laundry facilities are NOT available. The outdoor fire pit and party area as well as the bar-b-que are available for guests to use. Feel free to walk the Ke Ala Hele Mana--The Path of Spirit--which is a meditation path on our property. There is a television for watching movies. We have over 350 DVD's for your viewing, if you choose. Previous guests, however, have preferred to enjoy the outdoor fire area long into the night. Interaction with GuestsYour hosts will be present during your stay. This is our home and we love to share it with others. We freely share our knowledge of the Big Island and its unique characteristics. If you prefer your privacy, that will certainly be respected. The NeighborhoodOcean View (also known as HOVE Hawaiian Ocean View Estates) is an eclectic community of people who like to live away from the larger populations. It is totally reliant on catchment rain water or purchased by the truckload. Land is still very affordable. Come see if this kind of living is for you! Getting AroundA rental car is necessary as public transit is scarce. Parking is available. GPS DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK EVERYWHERE ON THIS ISLAND. We will happily provide a map, if requested. Other Things to NoteOcean View can be challenging if you are looking for an address in the dark. Please call for the best way to locate our home. There are no streetlights and most addresses are not lighted at night. Hawaii Tax ID #GE-(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) and TA-(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). We include all taxes in our base price.

The SpaceThis little cabin is ideal for romantic getaway or honeymoon suit. Birders welcome!!! It has a screened in lanai and a little back porch, living room with integrated kitchen, small bathroom and bedroom. The cabin is nestled between 100 years old Ohia trees in a private setting in Ocean View, Big Island Hawaii, on the slopes of Mauna Loa, a dormant (URL HIDDEN) the words of one of my guests: - It's located on about a two acre parcel of very quiet country 3 miles off of the main southern highway about halfway between Kona and Volcano, a perfect location for those who want to explore the southern part of the Big Island. Just a couple miles from the cabin was a landscape of "painted earth" that is such a wonder of rich colors in contrast to the black lava flows. And the area is filled with diverse adventures such as watching the full moon rise from the southernmost point in the US (South Point) and exploring a lava tube, to seeing turtles on Black Sand Beach and seeing the rare Green Sand Beach. Farther afield are the Kona coffee plantations and the Volcano National Park.... The cabin was so comfortable (extremely comfortable bed!), impeccably clean and was outfitted with everything we needed in a home away from home. The cabin is on the same 2 acre parcel as the owner's own residence (driveway leads around the cottage to her driveway) as well as a second, larger house, but they are well-spaced from each other. Gabriela is a warm and welcoming host and available to offer any assistance needed while still allowing her guests their privacy. We would highly recommend this charming spot for a couple who wants some quiet reconnect time or an individual looking for a retreat to read, write or explore. - Adventure tours can be booked with my friend Robert (Apapane Productions and Adventures) who will show you the beauty of our region Ka'u, a treat you do not want to miss! Special offers - including Tarot/Numerology Readings and Charts, Reiki Sessons (other wellness sessions as Aqua Balancing, Chi Gong, Massages etc. are in the making) can be booked, while you are here. Guest AccessFree parking, Wifi now working Interaction with GuestsI live on the neighbor property and am available for questions The Neighborhoodquiet, friendly neighborhood Ocean View is a very big " subdivision " , until recently the biggest in the US , yet far spreaded. The individual houses are located on either side of Highway 11 , also called Hawaiian Belt or Mamalahoa Highway , depending on the region, Mauka or Makai as the Hawaiians say, mountain side or ocean side . You will find 2 ' shopping centers ' right and left from the Highway , with gas stations , supermarkets ( on each side ) , a post office , laundry mat , gift and flower shop , ACE Hardware and restaurants . Ocean View has a huge lava cave , the Kula Kai Caverns ! Also worth seeing are the ' cinder pits ' , the multi colored lava. Even the many different buildings that people call their home! Getting AroundThe bus is only accessible from the village/ main highway, but from there you can stop the bus anywhere. Park and ride stop on makai (ocean) side of highway Other Things to NoteHAWAII STATE DOES REQUIRE ACCOMMODATION TAX and GENERAL EXCISE TAX: together about 16%. The SpaceThe amazing peacefulness of the absolute absence of noise , no street lights as well as marvelous ocean view and breathtaking stars display on a clear night make this cottage absolutely unique. It is perfect for those with a taste for introspection, solitude, contemplation and self inquiry. Without any noise, distractions and little if any human interaction, you can indeed unwind, relax, breathe deeply, contemplate and take in the serenity and peace of the openness and expansiveness that this unusual spot has to offer. If you embrace and love this powerful lava mountain, Mauna Loa, she will embrace you and love you back. You will feel it and know it in your being. If you are an outdoor, nature lover of all kind of environments and set ups, open and eager for things new, unusual, and different, undemanding, young at heart, flexible and free in perspectives of life and living possibilities, you will love this place. But if you are main city standards set up person, uninterested in new and diferent environment and places, hard to please, critical, judgmental, trying to recreate where you come from, or opposite to any of the features above, I respectfully recommend to please avoid the Cocoon. As the Cocoon started to be build, it was already intended for visitor from other lands. Once finished, Tino realized that it was truly meant to be share with as many people as possible and to offer the opportunity to discover that there is much more beauty in Hawaii than beautiful beaches and jungle. There is an energy and beauty living on lava that is unique and diferent. You certainly are invited to find out. Guest AccessGuests will enjoy their own private and unique cottage with a simple outside kitchen, sink, outside shower, firepit, plus a 12 x 28 foot lanai and a star gazing lava bed. Access to refrigerator is separate from the cottage and right by the Shared hot water shower building and the hands free maintenance waterless toilet building at the entrance of the property. Totally Off the grid, modest but sufficient solar power for all your gadgets is available. Water comes from catchment (rain). This space is ideal for those with an organic, self-sufficient, green lifestyle and those wishing to experience all the different living style possibilities, landscapes and micro-climates this island has to offer. No recommended for city life standards people. Young couples and honeymooners love it . How is it possible to live a comfortable decent lifestyle off-the-grid without demanding so many resources from the planet? We must start somewhere and changes to our human habits, wants, and demands on the environment need to be made. All roads are paved. Free parking and easy to park right at the top of the lot. Cell phone reception is excellent. Interaction with GuestsThere are no neighbors nearby except the owner. Tino most likely will welcome you and introduce you to the space if he is around. Once introduced, you will have absolute privacy and distance from the other dwellings. This is your Cocoon and yours only to enjoy. If Tino is not around to welcome you ( which is very possible), put on your tennis shoes , just follow the signs to the Cocoon and immediately read the instructions sheet right inside the Cocoon and up your bed head. Please be considerate by following the instructions sheets. They are particularly more important if Tino is not around, and will help the next guests or will make the next guest unpleased. And that guest could be you. The NeighborhoodAs you come into this neighborhood, you will find three grocery stores, three gas stations, a post-office, simple restaurants, pizza, a hardware store and public transportation. Saturdays present an interesting and unique flea market. The cottage is located three blocks from the Volcano National Park boundary and six miles the highway. The famous Kula Kai caves are approximately ten miles from the cottage. Close by, there is also an open cinder pit mine and several Protea farms, There are no neighbors nearby except the owner. Southpoint is right in front of your eyes from the cottage's suspended bed, and approximately 18 miles away. The last gas station and grocery store closes 15 minutes before 9:00 pm. Please make sure to fill up your tank before that time. And get a gallon of drinking water since the running water from the catchment is not filter. While Tino does not put restriction on your arrival time, he highly recommend to come in before dark for your own interest and safety, and to get familiar with the whole set up. The landscape is unusual and gets very dark cuz the blackness of the lava and absence of street lights, which is an asset for star gazing nights. Getting AroundPublic transportation is limited. A regular rental car is recommended but no need for a four wheel drive. Very easy access with all roads paved. Other Things to NoteGuess will need to walk about 300 feet on gravel path and an extra 100 feet from the parking space to the Cocoon. Tennis shoes recommended. Bring a bag of ice for provided cooler to have things handy if you prefer. Bring some tea lights to use your tea lights holders. Outside on the back of the Cocoon and by the star gazing lava bed there is fire pit available, so you can also bring wood for a nice fire. . Please, clean it after you use it. A guitar, an ukalele, and a drum provided for you to play and enjoy. Please take good care of them. I go to bed early so Please, try to come in before dark, otherwise the introduction will be very dark and you may need to lead yourself in to the Cocoon. If despite my recommendation to check in before dark you come in at dark, make sure to bring a flashlight. But bring a flashlight anyway. You will need it. To get to the Cocoon at dark, just follow the solar lights path walking (with your tennis shoes on) slowly and mindfully. The terrain is unusual, rocky and unfamiliar to you, so please be mindful. I don't recommend falling down on lava rocks. It hurts. The waterless compost toilet and hot shower buildings are separate from the Cocoon. Approximately 300 feet away. Please remember that this is NOT suburbia-metropolitan high living standards set up. And it is not committed nor interested to support those standards -For the benefit of Mother Earth.-. An extra $15 dollars charge for an extra person no announce. Please be aware of this. Sorry, butNo animals/pets allowed. And last but most important: Please, I beg you to understand and be aware that this is not a place for picky, demanding, spoil wanting it all, and having it all people. This is for simple down to hearth, grateful, humble and appreciative beings. And even for those that finally realize that although no right or wrong, having it all is ultimately unsatisfying and empty. So this place is to accept it and embrace it as is. And if we can do that with all in life we can come to realize that we are already living in a paradise call Earth. Enjoy it, respect it, love it, take care of it, and make the necessary changes to make it last for countless generations.

"The Terraces" is the life long dream of founder, Stacey Richards. We are neither a B&B; nor a restaurant so we can not serve meals and charge for them. However, sit-down dinners are important to us. We welcome our guests, as friends, to eat with our family and contribute what they will toward the cost of food and preparation as a donation ... we have no hard and fast rules, we just want to keep it revenue neutral. We solicit your preferences and see meals as enjoyable social occasions. You are welcome to make your own meals, just let us know when you want join us, or if you need to have any box lunches made for your excursions. Prices include local tax of 13.5%. We find that some guests want to "move in" and be part of the local community and even, on occasion, the family ... that's fine, others want an efficient and comfortable base to operate from on their vacation with a minimum of interaction, we respect and honor that approach too. There are Buses twice daily to Kona and Hilo except on Sunday, schedules may be found by searching for "heleon bus Hawaii" Cleaning fee is a "per week or less" fee. It is applied once to all stays, regardless of length, and reoccurs weekly as the room is cleaned and linens are changed. Children under 18 do not count toward the 2 guest count. Additional fees may apply: - Cleaning Fee | 15 USD per week On the mountain side of Princess Kauilani Blvd., between Reef and Tradewind. Directly across the street from the beautiful West Hawaii lettuce farm. Upstairs suite in newly built home with double bed (beds and mats are available for children, bathroom with shower and lani. Located on a sustainable farm. Child care available from a Registered Nurse, day and evening. Spectacular view of South Point. The Hawaiian Ocean View Estates development consists of 10,697 1-acre lots north of the Hawaii Belt Road in the western part of the District of Kaʻū. See more on Facebook, search for "Kahuku the terraces" We also have a Hawaiian Cabin on the property with its own kitchen and bath available for just a few dollars more..

Romantic getaway, 1 bedroom cottage in magical settings at the foot of Mauna Loa, 3200 feet above sea level ideal for Honeymoon or other romantic occasions....Birders welcome! The cottage is fully furnished, living room w/integrated kitchen, bathroom (small), bedroom, lanai, many skylights for star gazing....WiFi available but not always working..... As one of my guests put it so nicely: - It's located on about a two acre parcel of very quiet country 3 miles off of the main southern highway about halfway between Kailua- Kona and Volcano. We found it to be a perfect location for those who want to explore the southern part of the Big Island. Just a couple miles from the cabin was a landscape of "painted earth" that was such a wonder of rich colors in contrast to the black lava flows. And the area was filled with diverse adventures such as watching the full moon rise from the southernmost point in the US (South Point) and exploring a lava tube, to seeing turtles on Black Sand Beach and seeing the rare Green Sand Beach. Farther afield are the Kona coffee plantations and the Volcano National Park, both worth visiting. We struggled between our desire to explore the island and to just relax in quiet solitude on the screen porch or in the hammock. The cabin was so comfortable (extremely comfortable bed!), impeccably clean and was outfitted with everything we needed in a home away from home. The cabin is on the same 2 acre parcel as well as a second, larger house, but they are well-spaced from each other. A charming spot for a couple who wants some quiet reconnect time or an individual looking for a retreat to read, write or explore. - Since I get so many questions about location and beach access I will post my response to one of the inquiries here: I will be there for your needs. Linen and everything will be included in the quote. You would need a car to get around but, if you look for peace and serenity, you might find it here. Since we are located on Mauna Loa, 3200' altitude, away from stores and city traffic, the next beach access is about 20-30 min driving distance, the Kona airport is about 1 1/2 hrs away, the Hilo airport 2 - 2 1/2 hrs. Ocean View village with its stores, gas stations and post office is about 6 min driving distance. Birding tours can be booked with my friend Robert (Apapane Productions and Adventures) who will show you the beauty of our region Ka'u, a treat you do not want to miss! Special offers - including Tarot/Numerology Readings and Charts, Reiki Sessons (other wellness sessions as Aqua Balancing, Chi Gong, Massages etc. are in the making) can be booked, while you are here. Magical settings between 100 year old Ohias, nestled on the foot of Mauna Loa on the Big Island, Hawaii, providing peace, tranquility and a place to relax. Away form noisy cities, but easy to reach when renting a car. Close by beaches are Miloli'i, Honomolino or Ho'okena (west side) or Whittington beach park (toward eastside). Our village Ocean View, in the middle of the island, not far from Southpoint, Waiohino and Na'alehu in the south of the island, is 2.5 hrs away from Hilo, the capital of Big Island, Hawaii and about 1.5 hrs away from Kailua Kona.

The SpaceWant to experience living on a tropical volcano? Elevation is 3244 feet and the living space is about 800 sq feet of a luxurious fort... Want to hear more? Completely self contained property, water, sewer and power. Please be conscious of all consumption. The property is 2 acres with 24 coffee plants, 24 loquat trees, 4 plus tomatillo plants, 4 lime trees, 2 lemon, 1 orange, 4 passion fruit plants, 16 Koa trees, 2 dragon fruit cactus, tomatoes, pineapples, herb garden, some vines I cant identify until they fruit, and a few other things I get to learn. :) All I ask is if something is ripe and you will eat it or try it, please do so! Otherwise do not harvest everything, leave some for the next. Chicken coop with no chickens just yet. Lava tube which is a very cool cave. Also there are a large quantity of three horned Chameleons... feel free to hold them, let them crawl on you, putting them on different colored shirts is fun to watch, but do not remove them from their environment! They will always be just outside if you want to see them. Its cooler than down by the ocean, usually with a nice breeze. ( I have seen it get windy and can be chilly until the sun comes up) Oh, bring or get mosquito repellent because they sometimes come out. It can get really warm and there are some fans, but it can get chilly, usually at night or in the morning, so I advise bringing a set of warmer cloths. I have a bunch of blankets and there is a wood stove in the livingroom. In the guide below I point out some highlights in the area but leave some out for you to discover! Half of the fun for me is to explore. Guest AccessThere is an artist studio that will be locked. If you need it for some reason let me know and we can get it unlocked. The shed and 1 room will be locked. Interaction with GuestsI have a Manager named Nicole that will be available to support if anything major comes up and I will provide my phone number once booked as well. The NeighborhoodI think its the Largest planned community anywhere but don't quote me on that, but it is massive and interesting to drive around. Its a "volcano side" unique community from ocean level to almost a mile up the volcano's side. I call it Lava-Billy because it has a distinct country feel to it and the diverse spectrum of people living in the area. Getting AroundNo public transportation... rental vehicle is best. and everything is a long drive on the big island so be prepared to drive no mater where you stay to most the island has to offer. Honestly this house is in the middle of most of it from Hilo to Kona... the location of this house is very ideal for this island, if you are planning to explore from Hilo to Kona! Other Things to NoteThe closest beaches are the best beaches in my opinion, Green sand beach (45 min away), a Black sand beach (40 min away) and a Grey sand beach about (35 min away) I will place more description on the map of whats nearby!

The SpaceAccommodations during your one week stay at Christmas Island will be at the Ikari House Lodge. Conveniently located in the village of London, the Lodge is operated by an English-speaking staff, and nestled on the water overlooking the island's vast lagoon. 10 modern, simple but pleasantly decorated rooms offer air conditioning and private baths. They are all on one floor and open onto a Maneaba facing the water. Each room has a small refrigerator and private bathroom, which includes a shower heated by solar energy. The dining will include ample portions of a variety of hearty meals as well as some exotic dishes and lots of fresh seafoods. Meats and vegetables are flown in from Hawaii, so there's no concern about stomach disorders. Groups are treated to a weekly luau, featuring fresh lobsters and complete with traditional native singing and dancing. The open-air Maneaba on the beach is where the gang usually gathers each evening to spin yarns of record bonefish that got away or the ravages of imposing trevally. Both are always well-stocked, there's plenty of ice, and the informal atmosphere couldn't be better. Guest AccessGuests will be treated to six full days of guided fly fishing via super Panga with one guide per two anglers. All Lodge facilities, meals, guides, on-island transfers, and lodging are included in the $2750 weekly rate. Interaction with GuestsThe Lodge staff is available around the clock drug your visit for your convenience. The NeighborhoodChristmas Island is primarily an angler's destination and other activities are limited. There is excellent diving, as well as various island touring and eco activities that can be arranged for you. Ever dream of swimming with Manta Rays? Getting AroundAll on-island transfers are provided in your weekly package for your convenience. Other Things to NoteChristmas Island offers what is perhaps the best saltwater fly fishing in the world, with vast numbers of fish - and some very big ones - on easily waded, clean, hard, white sand flats. Experienced flats fishers will often average 10 or 15 bonefish a day, with a 20-plus fish day possible anytime. And while most of these will average about 3-4 pounds, several could be in the 6- to 9-pound range. Trophy bones are always possible. We've had numerous reports of weighed and measured 10-14 pounders and even larger fish that have been spotted, hooked and lost. More and more anglers are adding to the daily excitement with three different kinds of trevally - Giant (to 100 pounds-plus), Bluefin (to 15 pounds), and Golden (to 20 pounds and more) - that are taken with fly, or spinning tackle on the flats while bonefishing and also along the lagoon edges and in the surf. Trevally (a kind of jack) are awesomely strong fish that strike savagely at or near the surface. Some fly fishers are going with hopes of breaking IGFA line class records for these amazing fish.
