The SpaceThe Florida Everglades is listed as one of the top places in the world to see before it disappears. The home I have created in the Big Cypress preserve sits on 2.5+ acres. It is meant to lure the naturalists to a very exclusive spot. The home is very bright and open. There are several work places throughout. The new kitchen highlights natural stone. The spa bathroom glistens with green glass tiles. It has a Sun-Mar electric toilet. The lovely one bedroom contains a new king size bed and has a cedar closet. The living room has a pullout futon . The screened in porch nearly engulfs the entire house. You can enjoy the natural beauty of the woods or pond from every room! Search for the article "10 Natural Wonders to See Before They Disappear" -NBC News Guest AccessThe house is quite remote. It is located on a hard rock/shell road, perfect for biking. We have a gate at the driveway to enter, the carport has a wide gate as well if you would like to park in the screened in area. No other guests and few neighbors. The pond on the west side of the home is a great spot for birding , meditation, reading, etc... As of 12/1/2014 it now has internet and satellite tv . Interaction with GuestsI am not living in the home now, it would be all yours! However, if you need anything I will certainly see what I can do. Maintenance may stop by as well The NeighborhoodThere is no suburban neighborhood, only the great outdoors. Trees abound here not houses! The Everglades protects an unparalleled landscape that provides important habitat for numerous rare and endangered species like the manatee, spoonbills, cranes, and the elusive Florida panther. This is truly an escape into the wilderness, the wildlife abounds all around the home. Very few pristine areas like this exist anymore! You can hike and kayak on your own or hire local guides to paddle board, kayak, canoe, airboat or swamp buggy ! In addition, Everglades City, Ten thousand Isles, Miccosukee Indian Village, Fakahatchee Strand are all close by Also, I would be happy to stock the home provisions. There are stores for basic supplies approximately 9 miles from the house and Everglades City is 11 miles away from the house. There is a small grocery, several seafood restaurants, hardware store and salt water fishing/tour guides in Everglades City Getting AroundThe property is quite remote, you really need a car if you plan to explore the area. There is no public transportation. Miami Int'l Airport is 60 miles East and Naples Airport is 42 miles West. We can arrange car service to and from airports. There are no local taxis. The house provides 2 bikes. Other Things to NoteDue to the wild nature of the home please refrain from bringing children or pets.. Bring your camera for sure! Please don't feed the resident alligators in the pond

The SpaceOur cozy home features an open floor concept for the kitchen, living room, and lounge. This will enable you to watch the kids play or watch TV, or continue conversing and interacting with others traveling with you. TVs are available in each room. However if you aren't in the mood for TV, there is a billiards table available for your convenience, and a lovely terrace outside. For all of these reasons, this is truly a great vacation rental in Everglades City for a family or small group of close friends looking to reconnect, unwind, and spend quality time together. The kitchen features tiled floors, subway tiles on the island/counter and back splash. There is plenty of space for you to cook, prepare, and also to serve your meals in the kitchen. While you prepare your meals, you can still watch your favorite programs from the kitchen via the visible living room. Watch the kids play a game of billiards in the equally visible lounge, or play in the living room while your significant other watches their favorite program, or hooks up to the in-house Wifi to research what's next for your itinerary. When you're ready for some privacy, head over to one of the four bedrooms located in our home. They're tucked away towards the northwest part of the house, which will give you that privacy and peace you are looking for. Guest AccessYou will have full access to our home here, so feel comfortable, relax, and enjoy your stay with us! No worries, you're on vacation in Florida, after all! Interaction with GuestsWe will do our best to interact with you and assist you with all of your needs. We do run one of the busiest restaurants in town, however, so depending upon what time of year it is and how busy our schedule at the restaurant is, we might not be able to interact with you as much as we would like. If you do need anything, however, please stop by our restaurant, Havana Cafe, to say hi and/or to let us know if there's anything we could do to make your stay better. We do have a friend who has offered to show our guests around as like an informal tour guide if you are interested. Still, we look forward to having you stay with us and we hope to meet you during your stay! The NeighborhoodAs stated earlier, our home is located on one of the liveliest, probably the busiest corner in Everglades City! Across the street you will find Camellia Street Grill, which features a menu of Southern and Mediterranean inspired fare, with waterfront dining and live music during season. Next door to Camellia Street Grill is one of the many busy fish houses that line Camellia Street. Everglades City is known for its fishing industry, in particular its fresh-caught stone crabs and grouper; Camellia Street is where the fishermen drop off their catch and get it ready for market! Feel free to take a stroll around this area between October and May, particularly in the early morning, to watch the boats come in, and unload and clean their catch. Within walking distance of our home is the Ivy House, which has some of the best kayak/canoe tours of the 10,000 Islands and of the Florida Everglades, the Post Office, several charming historic churches and homes built in the Old-Florida style, the Museum of the Everglades, City Hall, Right Choice Market, Sweet Mayberry's Cafe and Gifts, the Rod and Gun Club, and McLeod Park. We are a five-minute drive away from Chokoloskee Island, where you can charter a boat to go fishing, see Everglades National Park, visit Smallwood Store and dine at our restaurant, Havana Cafe! Ochopee and all the sites there, like the airboat tour companies, eco-tourism boat tour companies, the world's smallest post office and Big Cypress National Preserve are a 10 minute drive away. We are two hours west of Miami, forty minutes east of Marco Island, an hour west from Naples, and two hours west of Fort Myers. Getting AroundIf you stay in Everglades City, you will be able to walk around, or ride a bicycle. However, if you plan on going to Chokoloskee, Ochopee, Miami, Marco Island, Naples or even Fort Myers during your trip, you will need a car. In order to get to us, you will need to rent a car anyways, or you can just bring yours from home if you drove down to Florida. There's plenty of room for you to park at least three cars out-front, or two out-back, so don't worry about finding a place to park once you get to our property either! Other Things to NoteAs mentioned earlier, we do have a friend who has offered to show our guests around if they would like a local guide service. She speaks English, Spanish, French and some basic German and Polish, is well traveled, and works as a travel writer, so you'll be in good hands. We also want to note that if you are traveling with children or elderly individuals to the house, you will need to use caution because it isn't child proof; there are some steps around the entrance and within the home that children and elderly individuals will have to be cautious around but they are welcome. We also want to note that you need to enter and exit through the front door that faces the school next to the outdoor terrace. I will also note that this property is not wheelchair or handicap friendly, because of the stairs outside and the step in between the common area, the living room and the kitchen.

Come stay at our lovely Purple Cottage, which is located in the heart of Everglades City, Florida. As a traveler, you will appreciate our location, which is within walking distance of all the major sites. These include the Museum of the Everglades, City Hall, McLeod Park, First Baptist Church, Community Church, the Ivy House which has well-known kayak tours in the area, and the Rod and Gun Club. You are also within walking distance of several restaurants, the post office, the grocery store and a few convenience stores. You will also be able to get a taste of the local color, because our home is located near the fish houses along the Barron River. These fishes houses are integral to the local economy, which thrives on the commercial fishing of grouper and stone crabs. The interior of our Purple Cottage has an open concept with a common room, and kitchen/living room. Each room features an LCD TV, and is WiFi accessible. Our common room has a billiards table, which will keep you and the members of your party entertained for hours. We also have an outdoor terrace, featuring a gas grill and seating which will just beckon you to entertain during your stay with us! Our kitchen features a built-in island, ample counter space, a subway-tiled back-splash, and stainless steel appliances. Stainless steel appliances include the two-door refrigerator, a glass-topped stove/oven combo, and a built-in microwave. There is also a dish washing machine, a deep, roomy sink, and ample space on the built-in island where it can serve both as a breakfast bar and counter space. Please note that the breakfast nook/built-in island is the only "dining table" to speak of. The kitchen overlooks the living room, which has two couches, a rocking chair and a lounge chair. Guests have plenty of room to sit in the living room and watch TV, play a game, reading, or even just sit and chat while you or someone else in your party prepares dinner. The common room is the first room you will see once you enter our Purple Cottage. As mentioned earlier, this is where the billiards table is, in addition to more seating, and another LCD TV set. Gather in here to play a game of pool, chat, playing a board or card game, or just spend some time on your own to catch up on your book. The master bedroom, located at the far, left corner of the house behind the living room, features a comfy queen bed, an LCD TV, and a small seating area. This small seating area has a table and chairs, which is a perfect place for you and your loved one to sit and read before bed. Connected to the master suit is your huge, en suite bathroom. This bathroom is also shared with the rest of the house, which has a separate entrance via a door located at the far center of the house behind one of the couches in the living room. This bathroom has a his/her sink, a shower, and a large, a toilet, and a spa tub. The laundry room is also located here, hidden by a set of folding doors. Next door to the shared entrance of the master suite's bathroom is the bedroom containing the two full beds. Please note that this bedroom does not have a closing door, while the master suite does. However, you do have a curtain which you can open and close according to how much privacy you feel you need. This room is still very cozy, featuring the two beds, a bed stand, an LCD TV and a dresser. There is a separate bathroom nearby which contains a sink, a shower, and a toilet. We hope you will enjoy your stay with us and our lovely Purple Cottage which we have set up just for guests like you! We have chosen a plantation, old Florida inspired decor which we hope you will enjoy! For your convenience, we also have a friend who has offered to show guests around if you are interested. She is a published author with a few books on sale, including a few travel writing credits under her name. Plus, she's well-versed in French, Spanish, English and she knows some German and Polish and well-traveled so she is a great resource if you feel you need someone to show you around! All guests are welcome, however no pets are allowed. We will note that even though all guests are allowed, the home is not child-proofed, nor really suitable for elderly guests nor handicapped people. This is because the front entrance has steps that are rather high, and this is the only way to enter the house. Plus, there is a step in between the common room and the living room/kitchen area that is definitely not handicapped friendly, nor suitable for elderly guests with limited mobility nor small children. If you choose to stay here with elderly guests or small children, maintain constant supervision around them in these areas and make sure they take precautions when in these areas of the house. We hope to see you soon! The neighborhood our Purple Cottage is located in a busy area of Everglades City. It is within walking distance of all the major sites, including the Museum of the Everglades and the Rod and Gun Club. There are also churches, a grocery store, some gas stations, airboat tours and eco-tourism companies within walking distance. Lots of residential homes in the area that are historical, and you are within walking distance of all the fish houses, that bring in the stone crabs and fish that the town relies on for our economic needs.

You can dock your boat out the back or just down the street at the Outdoor resort for easy access to the park. You do have to watch the tides as the canal will lower to a point that access is not feasible until the tide changes.
