Sink into the generous clawfoot tub (shower too), light the candles and sip a glass of wine. Cook a romantic alfresco meal in the kitchen/dining room. The oversized log bed (queen) begs to be stretched out in with a good book. We are a 100% Smoke-free property as well. All the fun and ease of living in beautiful downtown Ojai, sans responsibilities! Steps from the Farmers Market, all downtown shops and Italian fine or casual dining, Chinese, sushi, Thai, Mexican, sandwiches, old and new-style American food, Rainbow Bridge (healthy groceries and ready-made food if you don't feel like using the kitchen), Close to several local watering holes, Sushi and tequila bars, plus The Vine and Casa Barrancas' tasting room)....you name it, and you can get to it in a two-minute walk. Ojai was recently featured in Vogue (URL HIDDEN) as a wonderful Shangri-La as well. Our guests are blessed to be in the middle of downtown Ojai - Here are a few highlights: Check out "A Taste Of Ojai" on Vimeo We see our guests from time to time if we are home, so our interaction is basically on the guests' terms :) We are in the middle of EVERYTHING! We are literally the middle of all the downtown maps (sometimes I have to open them extra-wide to find our street) and we have very friendly neighbors. If you bring your friendly, well-behaved, cat-friendly dog, you will find that you can take him/her just about anywhere with you. DOG OWNERS MAY NOT INSTANT BOOK, please message me with your details and dates so we can open a chat. The SpaceWabi Sabi House is nestled in the most sought after location in the Ojai Valley, the fabled East End, where Krishnamurti himself used to take his daily constitutional. The East of Ojai, where the Chumash thrived for 10,000 years, is the part of Ojai that Aldus Huxley, Jackson Pollock, and John Lennon have come to rest while in California. The large parcels of land, and ample privacy still allow for a lone bike ride along a lush, breathtaking road, undisturbed. Drenched in sunlight and twenty minutes from the beach, this Japanese style retreat sits at the base of Horn Canyon, with a huge private yard filled with bamboo, succulents, a fire pit and outdoor dining. It is situated between two preparatory schools, The Thacher school, and The Ojai Valley School, The Krishnamurti Library, and what was once Beatrice Woods' home and studio. Just up the trail which winds past the house and up over the "Pink Moment" bluffs, resplendent with local flora and fauna, crystal streams, and a natural climbing wall, is a Pilates studio offering world class massage in an outdoor setting. Natural sage, aloe, and aromatic herbs are right outside your front door, and down the road is an organic Pizza Parlor nestled amongst orange trees, oaks, and sweeping vistas. The good news is, you are still 1 hour and 15 minutes from Los Angeles and a short bike ride from town. The cottage has a detached Japanese style bath house with a restored clawfoot tub, and birch paneling. It is ideal for a private soak after a long hike... Views from the house include the Ojai mountain range on all sides, replete with hawks flying overhead. It is perfect for weekends or for the week to work in nature, near organic cuisine, Whole Foods style markets, world class spas, yoga, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and of course..surfing! This is the perfect place to re-charge all of your senses...enjoy! Guest AccessGuests have access to the best hiking in Ojai right outside the front door, there are fresh oranges to pick from the tree on the property, mountain streams, pepper trees, a soccer field surrounded by the mountain range and generally the most gorgeous flora and fauna that Ojai has to offer. Interaction with GuestsGuest can text me or call me at any time if they need something. I live in Los Angeles but my folks live on the property and are available for anything guests may need from extra firewood, to tea light candles. The key and a manual are left for them so if they don't want to see anyone, they have that option also. The property is one acre so complete privacy is available. The NeighborhoodThe East End of Ojai is the most gorgeous area in Ojai. It is a sought after respite for people from neighboring Los Angeles where vacation homes are kept, but is also one steeped with long time residents who will give a friendly wave to anyone who happens past on foot, bicycle or car. Low traffic, close to town, like mountains in Spain, or the South of France. It's exquisite by all standards of what paradise looks like. Flanked by two prep schools, students jogging and horseback riding are a frequent sight. It's a great place to unwind. Getting AroundThere is a cute open air trolley car that picks up and let's off at Boccalis restaurant from the center of town which is a walk from the house. Drive is 3-5 minutes. Walk is about 45 minutes. Other Things to NoteThe house is the perfect balance of nature and town. Just far enough away to make one feel completely at peace. A massage and Pilates studio are a short walk up the trail, and hiking is at the front door. Because the house flanks a national forest, please be aware that indigenous California wildlife is part of the landscape. We advise that you keep your dog on a leash while outside. Please in the warmer months tell kids to be vigilant as rattlesnakes are part of the natural landscape and guests should be aware when hiking and with kids and dogs to remain vigilant when it is hot out. These critters don't want to interact with us but this mountain range is their home so we should be aware when enjoying its natural splendor! Otherwise enjoy the utter gorgeousness! Incredible beaches are a 30 minute drive away and surfboards are available!

The SpaceThis little farm-like home was built in 1949. Beautiful hardwood floors, simple interiors have been well-maintained and upgraded throughout the years. Settled on a side-walk-less street, surrounded by trees and views of the Mountains that cradle Ojai Valley. Birds from humming to blue jays, many whose names I don't know, sing their morning songs. This is a peaceful sanctuary of vibrancy. An invitation to stop, pause, hold still relax deeply. Enjoy silent stillness . . . Guest AccessYou will have access to the entire house (except host's bedroom) and yards. Relax sip your tea or coffee in the cool morning air along the dry creek-side of the house. Large umbrella, table and chairs are there for your bird-watching, listening and journal writing pleasure. Interaction with GuestsAs my longtime friend Cathy mentions in her Friend Reference, I am intuitive. Quiet and engaging. If you are interested in hearing my preferred eateries, etc I love to share and promote local merchants. I'm equally interested in hearing what brings you to Ojai. And a bit about your interests as well. Meditation and yoga practices are highly welcome. We can set a space for you, for both if you like. Namaste . . . The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is friendly and community oriented. Before I moved in I was invited to my next door neighbors, Dave and Elizabeth's house warming celebration. That's friendly!! I love the views of surrounding properties. Trees. Trees. Trees. The primary colors offered the viewer are varied shades of clouds, blue-hues and multitudes of greens. It's spacious. Kids, adults pass by on their bikes. Folks say hello, good morning or stop for a brief chat. When there's an event in the Village, you'll notice people dressed for the occasion. Walking to their destination. Be it Libbey Bowl or The Art Center on Montgomery. Or maybe simply strolling to have a good meal at a great downtown restaurant. It's warm and friendly. With no sidewalks! Has a country-feel while being within this charmingly small town. Welcome to the Neighborhood! Getting AroundYou can walk to downtown from here. About a 10-15 minute walk, depending on your pace and destination. The Ojai Trolly stops are just down the street on Grand Ave. Trolly runs 7 days a week. Routes include: Ojai, Meiners Oaks and Mira Monte. Gold Coast Transit's bus depot is a short walk from here too. They offer fixed-route services in Ojai, Ventura, Oxnard and Port Hueneme. You can always bring or rent a bike! There are several great bicycle shops in town. Rails-to-trails routes are enjoyed by walking and cycling enthusiasts alike. Other Things to NoteWe are a non-smoking home. Silence is practiced often.

The SpaceGuest House at Euterpe Farms Welcome! We hope you enjoy your stay in this beautiful part of the world. I'm so happy to be able to share this property with people of like mind...who care about natural beauty and the creative nature of people. (URL HIDDEN)Smitty West Here’s some information and tips to help make your stay easier. Pool Area Enjoy one of the great experiences of Ojai….the pool at Euterpe Farms with White Ledge Peak of the Transverse Ranges at sunset! It’s full of mineral water drawn from the earth at the windmill. Very lightly treated, your skin will feel great afterwards. We’ll show you how to use the hot tub on request! There’s an icemaker and refrigerator on the terrace under the pergola on the way to the pool There are pool towels for you, and just let us know if you need more. Wildlife Euterpe Farms has a 1000’ fenced border and 180 degree view of the beautiful Ojai Land Conservancy’s Ventura River Preserve, and the two million acre Los Padres National Forest. This beautiful, diverse, and wild country is home to an amazing assortment of wildlife found nowhere else. This is THEIR home, and WE are the visitors here on the edge of this wilderness. Be respectful of this fact and you will be rewarded with close-up view of an amazing assortment of plants and wildlife. Some of the larger animals you may see: deer, coyote, fox, snakes, bobcat, mountain lion, bear. Bird watchers will LOVE the diversity. We encourage raptors, and you may see or hear several types of owls, hawks, and other birds of pretty. There is usually a resident barn owl in the brown owl house in the tree in the middle of the circle driveway. You can see her pellets on the ground below. With big animals come small animals, so if you like lizards, spiders, snakes and other crawlies, you’ll love it as much as the animals that eat them. If you don’t, well, you might have to live with them, because there’s 2 million acres of their home right next door! We try to maintain a no-kill philosophy on the property, and we have only seen one poisonous snake. Best advice: Enjoy the wildlife, but don’t handle it! Vegetable Garden and Orchard There’s a vegetable garden on the side yard along the driveway. It is protected from deer by an electric fence which can be unplugged where the extension cord meets the controller in the white bucket. All organic. Help yourself. The orchard is seasonal, we have some type of fruit much of the year, but only a tree or two of each. Naval orange, plums, apricots, cherries, avocado, peaches, figs, blood oranges, grapefruit, white pomegranate. Monarch Butterflies We are a monarch butterfly sanctuary. What this really means is that we nurture and cultivate the Ojai native milkweed species, Asclepias fascicularis…the monarchs do the rest! You will see butterflies most of the spring, summer, and fall, and then they overwinter in groves along the California coast. While they enjoy nectar from the variety of wildflowers on the farm, they only lay their eggs on milkweed…so it is vital to their dwindling populations. Consider purchasing a milkweed while you are here to take home. Norman Speaking of animal life, our resident black lab, Norman, welcomes you as well. He is well-behaved, and may bark at you when you arrive, or at the coyotes if they come on the property, but is as kind and sweet as any canine you may meet. He loves the pool, so if you want him to join you, you won’t have any problem. If not…a firm “no” will usually let him know who’s boss. Chickens Our hens think they rule the roost. They kinda do. You are welcome to eggs. They lay during the warm months, usually late in the morning. We let them out sometimes in the late afternoon when Norman can watch them. There’s no rooster so they shouldn’t spoil your sleep. They are named for famous heroines and musical chicks, “Rox-Hen”, “Re-Peck-ah”, “Yolk-O Ono”, “Lay-la”, “Buffy” …you get the idea. You may change their names at your desire. Climate and Comfort Ojai has a reputation in California for being blazing hot, but that isn’t really true, with a few exceptionally hot spells each year. Here at the Farm, during the summer months we are rewarded with a beautiful Pacific marine layer breeze every afternoon, and the average summer daytime temperature is 90 degrees. The winters are mild, but sometimes chilly at night. The wall furnace has a thermostat under the access panel at the bottom. You’ll be very comfortable with a setting between 1 and 3 (out of ten). There are two black marks to make these settings easier to see. If the pilot goes out, and you need help lighting it, let us know. Sometimes during offshore wind conditions, it does get BLAZING HOT for several days at a time. If you are lucky enough to be visiting during one of these spells (we may get two or three of them per year and it can be over 100 degrees), remember that it does cool off at night, so open the windows and night and shut them in the morning as the day warms up. There is an attic fan that can add to your cross breeze, and a portable air conditioner that will take the edge off. But the best solution is a dip in the beautiful swimming pool, and planning an evening poolside until the stars come out. That said, chances are that you will have fantastic weather, any time of the year, and use the windows to moderate your temperature, and enjoy the porch. Indoor Living Ojai is all about outdoors, but you’ll find a lot of indoor conveniences here: Refrigerator, stove, oven, microwave, coffee pot, toaster, service for small groups, satellite TV with surround sound, wifi, a desk area, books….etc. If you’re here for more than a few days, and need anything (cooking utensils, iron and iron board, guitar) just text or ask Smitty. Plumbing Euterpe Farms is on a green septic system. If it didn’t come out of your body or off the roll of supplied septic-safe tissue, it doesn’t go in the toilet. Trust us…we will find out! Solar and Wind and Water The little faucet next to the sink delivers you unlimited delicious and “world famous” Euterpe Farms windmill mineral water. This water is purchased by thousands of fans at our roadside tienda (farm stand) as their exclusive drinking water. Delicious, untreated and pure mineral water. It is raised by the power of the wind from our 1926 Aeromotor windmill from an isolated aquifer under this portion of Meiners Oaks. The farm has a 8500 kilowatt solar generating system, making power from Ojai’s most precious asset, our sunshine. Bees We’re doing our part to help sustain healthy communities of honeybees here at Euterpe Farms. Their hives are very obvious off to the cliff side near the windmill. No one has been bitten that wasn’t messing around with their hives. No one HASN’T been bitten who WAS messing around with them. Your choice. You’ll see them on the wildflowers around the Farm. Tip your hat and say thank you (or “gracie”… they are an Italian variety), and they won’t bother you. Hikes We recommend the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy’s beautiful Ventura River Preserve. Walk or drive the one-half mile north on Rice Rd. to the trailhead. There is a private semi-improved trail that starts out near the windmill. It’s a steep climb down steps carved into the hillside, and then you follow deer and coyote trails to the public trails…10 minutes away. Another favorite is the Shelf Road Trail in Downtown Ojai, accessible by trailhead at the top of Signal Street. Rose Valley Falls is about 30 minutes up the 33 in the beautiful mountains above Ojai. There is a Forest Service Office in Ojai’s East End with lots of maps, books, and information about the Los Padres National Forest. General Safety Euterpe Farms is a working farm. That means there are farm tools, farm work, and multiple hazards that you won’t find in most “vacation spots.” This is the beauty and uniqueness of this special place, but please use common sense and understanding. As a guest here in the Guest House, you are welcome to the apartment and beautiful deck, and non-exclusive use of the pool. You may walk the grounds but please respect the privacy of the occupants of the main house. Besides being a native plant farm, any portion of the grounds and pool area may be in use for other purposes such as parties and music events, filming, music recording or rehearsal, photography, plein air painting, and private use by the owner, Smitty West. Please be respectful of the privacy and business of the other people enjoying the Farm. The property requires regular land care, pool service, gardening, and farming that may be occurring at any time, so if you see our happy grounds manager, Urbano….say hola! Smitty also enjoys doing work around the farm, and he may offer you a tour. Parking Please park on the dirt area at the bottom of the stairs. Do not block the garage doors or the paved circle so delivery and service vehicles can come and go. The beautiful 450-year old oak tree in the front of the main house will thank you as well! Smitty West The owner and caretaker of Euterpe Farms, is singer/songwriter Smitty West. If he’s around, he’s a very friendly fellow who might want to share a story or hike with you. (URL HIDDEN) If he is on the property, he loves meeting our guests and helping you enjoy your stay. You can hear him sing with his partner Julija Zonic at The Vine wine bar in downtown Ojai Saturdays from 5:00-7:00pm. Some of their CDs are on display in the room for purchase. Dining Some of our favorites for quick, local bites: Meiners Oaks ( ½ mile north on Rice turn left on El Roblar Ave.) Papa Lennon’s – delicious, fresh food, pizza, pasta… counter service Don LaLo’s – Mexican, fresh, yummy Ranch House – famous for gourmet fine dining Farmer and the Cook: Grocery and counter restaurant…organic and local Downtown Ojai Suzanne’s Cuisine…fine dining Feast Bistro…fusion dishes by acclaimed chef Susan…say hi from Smitty Ojai Pizza – Yep….Pizza and families! The Vine – great wine and pretty yummy sandwiches, salads, pizzas Mira Monte and Oak View (5 miles back down the 33 toward Ventura) Spin – fresh pastas and comfort food Bocalli’s Italian and Pizza OHM Thai Massage, etc. Ojai School of Massage (student massage) 619 El Roblar Dr. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) The Oaks 122 E Ojai Ave ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Ronelle Wood (myofacial release) Ojai Healing Movement (EMAIL HIDDEN) (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) E. Matilija St. Ojai (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Sacred Space Studio 410 Bryant Circle Ojai (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Have a drink of clean, pure windmill water, courtesy of Euterpe Farms! This water is brought to you from a pure underground aquifer that underlies this area west of Krotona Hill. The reservoir is mapped by geologists to be fault-separated from the municipal wells in the Ventura River bottom, and in a completely different aquifer. The well underlies the windmill you see in the field in front of you. Taste it, you’ll love it. So will your dog or horse, so let them have some too! This water has been lifted by the power of the wind! Before you is a 1920s-vintage, restored Chicago Aermotor A602 windmill. It was salvaged from a farm near Santa Paula, and put back into service to lift the water that nurtures the young native plants here at Euterpe Farms. This machine is a thing of mechanical beauty and simplicity. It slowly and deliberately lifts the water from the earth every afternoon in the ocean breezes that move up the Ventura River as the Ojai Valley heats up in the sunshine. The machine is self regulating, turning to catch light breezes, but folding her tail to take the sails out of the wind in heavy winds. Every stroke lifts about two cups of water six inches. It sounds slow, but if the wind blows all day, it will fill one of the tanks you see next to the tower. There’s a pond next to the well to catch the overflow on really windy days. Look closely for wildlife around the pond, including deer and bobcat. What about when there’s no wind? The farm has installed a solar photovoltaic grid on the south side of the farmhouse. Every sunny day, our electric meter runs backwards! The small pressure pumps that help the windmill during low wind, and pressurize the water in the irrigation system draw on this power. We also have a solar water heating system made from recycled equipment from the 70s and 80s. We try to keep a low carbon footprint here at Euterpe Farms! Want more than a sip? There’s a tap for your larger water bottles next to the drinking fountain. If you would like to fill water bottles, we would ask that you make a donation in the cash box to help keep Euterpe farms eco-friendly, organic and natural. What is “Euterpe ?” Actually, “WHO is Euterpe ("you-TER-pee")? In Greek mythology, she is one of the Muses, the daughters of Mnemosyne, fathered by Zeus. Called the "Giver of Pleasure", she was the muse of music. The Muses dancing with Apollo The Muses are goddesses or spiritual guides who embody the arts and inspire the creative process with their graces through song and stage, writing, music and dance. They were water nymphs, associated with the springs of Helicon and Pieris. Here she is in a list with her sisters •Calliope Chief of the muses and muse of epic poetry •Euterpe muse of lyric song •Clio muse of history •Erato muse of erotic poetry •Melpomene muse of tragedy •Polyhymnia muse of sacred song •Terpsichore muse of dance •Thalia muse of comedy and bucolic poetry •Urania muse of astronomy Euterpe Music Company is the name of our music recording and publication company. If the sound of coyotes, owls, crickets, frogs...scare you, stay in the city! A birdwatcher's dream. A native plant enthusiast's Eden. The SpaceThis room is lovely. It is entirely new from last years listing. We remodeled our home and our guests will benefit. Everything in the room is fresh and new. Our house was bought as a fixer upper so you will notice there is an energy of creation all around. The front yard was just landscaped. We are resurfacing and rebuilding the pool so it is empty right now. The room is upstairs in the house and completely private. Furnished in cozy modern artistic furnishings. A bathroom with river rock walls. It is apparent that the owners are artists. Just like reviews have mentioned some guests could live in that bathroom. The room is romantic. Private bathroom. Private patio. Share kitchen and living room and outside amenities. 3 Miles from midtown Ojai. 1 mile to hiking trail head. Local hot springs 15 minute drive away. Grocery 2 miles. There are several dogs on premises so you can't be allergic, although they do not go near the room which is entirely private upstairs away from everything else. No smoking inside house. Quiet property. Can easily sleep in very late. No need for early check out. Just by about 12:00 p.m. If no one else is arriving then it can be later. We can discuss this a day before your arrival if you are trying to plan around your departure. The streets here are quiet and dark at night. I walk my dogs every night off leash if that gives you an idea. There is Netflix and HuluPlus and Pandora ona 50 inch smart TV. Our environment is very casual. We pick up behind ourselves but are not neat freaks. We can leave you entirely alone or you can socialize with us. We love barbecue and tri-tip and watching movies on the big screen in the living room. THIS IS IMPORTANT for DOG OWNERS: We have dogs. Several of them. They are our kids and they are their own pack. We have had guests with dogs several times successfully. However, I do request that you let me know about your dog before arriving. Sometimes personalities of dogs clash. I don't want any fights. Your dog needs to be up on vaccines including kennel cough. I often have very young puppies in the house that could get sick from another adult un-vaccinated dog. WE need to be smart. Also, if you are planning on leaving your dog in our house while going out there needs to be a discussion about compensation. I am not a boarding home. I love all animals and would happily walk and feed your dog, but I want to know ahead of time that this will be the case. If you have a male dog that lifts his leg to mark new territories like my house, please purchase a "belly band" before arrival. See this link: (URL HIDDEN) Please don't just show up with a dog. Thanks for your consideration on this matter. We are easy to talk too. Send a message through this system with your questions. I get them as text messages on my phone and will get back very promptly. Also, if you do book the room, for your own good, once booked you will have my phone number. I would love a call the day before letting me know your arrival time. Or, you can text me. But please make a connection with me the day before. Thanks for your consideration of our room. We love our home and welcome you into it. Guest AccessGuests have their own room which is accessed by walking through the main entry hallway but can be quietly entered and exited without walking through the whole house. It is up stairs nestled away. There is a private outdoor deck adjoined to the room. A guest with a dog of their own would be comfortable keeping their own dog with them in that space. We keep our dogs gated out of these areas. You can share in our living space too but the dogs will want to be near you then. In the front of the house we have a koi pond with lovely sounds of water to sit by and enjoy your morning coffee. Interaction with GuestsWe enjoy interaction with our guests. They come into our home and we so much enjoy knowing just a little something. I think some guests don't realize that we are exposing ourselves entirely by bringing them into our home. It feels more equal if we can get a feel for who is sleeping in our house. Please consider this when you feel shy. Just say hello for a few minutes anyway. The NeighborhoodIt is peaceful here. NO street lights. We have a bed outside in the back yard where you can lie down and count starts while you drink your own wine or I can make you tea. In the front we have a constant waterfall running with our new koi pond. Getting AroundYou need a car. But you can borrow a bicycle. We are 3 miles from town. There is Uber I Ojai but if you ever are in a pickle call us for a ride. Other Things to NoteIt is so safe here we don't have a front door key or lock. Taking walks late at night is a favorite around this neighborhood.

The Space26' travel trailer, "The Prowler." Famous for one week of the year as the Black Rock City, Nevada Burning Man headquarters for the music camp, "Minstrel CAMP." WARNING If you hate animals and nature, you will hate it here. If dark nights full of stars, or blinding full moons scare you, stay away! If the sound of coyotes, owls, crickets, frogs...scare you, stay in the city! This trailer is a complete home. Separate master "suite" with separate outside door, and bathroom door. The kitchen includes sink, stove, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, coffee maker, toaster, and full kitchen and dining service for up to four. The dining area can fold into a bed. And the living room sofa folds into a bed. Full walk-through bathroom has standup shower, and two (URL HIDDEN) to the master bedroom and one to the living room. Central AC and Heat. Located on a native plant farm property noted for its natural beauty by artists, Oscar-winning film artists, and music producers. One of a kind, and new to airbnb. "The Prowler" at Euterpe Farms General Safety Euterpe Farms is a working farm and music studio. That means there are farm tools, farm work, and multiple hazards that you won’t find in most “vacation spots.” This is the beauty and uniqueness of this special place. As a guest in the Prowler, you approach the trailer through a private driveway, and have use of the outdoor seating area, and non-exclusive use of the pool and hot tub. You may walk the grounds but please respect the privacy of the occupants of the main houses. WI-FI Internet Probably not accessible from the trailer, but the signal does reach the pool area, 100 steps away. Pool Area Enjoy one of the great experiences of Ojai….the pool at Euterpe Farms with White Ledge Peak of the Transverse Ranges at sunset! Caution with children…no fence between house and pool. There are pool towels in the Prowler. Wildlife Euterpe Farms has a 1000’ fenced border and 180 degree view of the beautiful Ojai Land Conservancy’s Ventura River Preserve, and the two million acre Los Padres National Forest. This beautiful, diverse, and wild country is home to an amazing assortment of wildlife found no where else. With big animals come small animals, so if you like lizards, spiders, and other crawlies, you’ll love it as much as the animals that eat them. If you don’t, well, you might have to live with them, because there’s 2 million acres of their home right next door! We try to maintain a no-kill philosophy on the property, and we have yet to see a poisonous snake, although we know that the river bottom is home to several. Best advice: Enjoy the wildlife, but don’t handle it! Climate and Comfort Ojai has a reputation in California for being blazing hot, but that isn’t really true. Here at the Farm, during the summer months we are rewarded with a beautiful Pacific marine layer breeze every afternoon, and the average summer daytime temperature is 89 degrees. That said, sometimes during Santa Ana wind conditions, it does get BLAZING HOT for several days at a time. If you are lucky enough to be visiting during one of these spells (we get maybe two or three of them per year and it can be over 100 degrees), remember that it does cool off at night, so open the windows and night and shut them in the morning as the day warms up. But the best solution is a dip in the beautiful swimming pool, and planning an evening poolside until the stars come out. All that said, the Prowler does have a strong central AC system. Plumbing Euterpe Farms is on a green septic system. If it didn’t come out of your body or off the roll of supplied septic-safe tissue, it doesn’t go in the toilet! Solar and Wind and Water All the water in The Prowler is delicious and “world famous” Euterpe Farms windmill water. This water is purchased by hundreds of fans at our roadside tienda (farm stand) as their exclusive drinking water. Delicious, untreated and pure mineral water. It is raised by the power of the wind from our 1926 Aeromotor windmill from an isolated aquifer under this portion of Meiners Oaks. The farm is powered in part by 3000 kilowatt solar generating system, making power from Ojai’s most precious asset, our sunshine. Tip your hat and say thank you (or “gracie” they are an Italian variety), and they won’t bother you. Hikes We recommend the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy’s beautiful Ventura River Preserve. Walk or drive the one-half mile north on Rice Rd. to the trailhead. You may walk the perimeter of the Farm, but we do not suggest trying to climb to the River bottom from the property. Smitty West The owner and caretaker of Euterpe Farms, is singer/songwriter Smitty West. If he’s around, he’s a very friendly fellow who might want to share a story or hike with you. (website hidden). If he is on the property, he loves meeting our guests and helping you enjoy your stay. You can hear him sing with his partner Julija Zonic at Il Giardino Restaurant in Ojai most Friday nights. Dining Some of our favorites for quick, local bites: Meiners Oaks ( ½ mile north on Rice turn left on El Roblar Ave.) Papa Lenon’s – delicious, fresh food, counter service Don LaLo’s – Mexican, fresh, yummy Farmer and the Cook: Grocery and counter restaurant…organic and local Downtown Ojai Il Giardino’s – Italian….Smitty performs here every Friday – Ojai Pizza – Yep….Pizza and families! Oak View (5 miles back down the 33 toward Ventura) Bocalli’s Italian and Pizza OHM Thai Here's a further description of the water:   Have a drink of clean, pure windmill water, courtesy of Euterpe Farms! Look closely forn wildlife around the pond, including deer and bobcat. The Muses are goddesses or spiritual guides who embody the arts and inspire the creative process with their graces through song and stage, writing, music and dance. They were water nymphs, associated with the springs of Helicon and Pieris. Her sisters • Calliope Chief of the muses and muse of epic poetry • Euterpe muse of lyric song • Clio muse of history • Erato muse of erotic poetry • Melpomene muse of tragedy • Polyhymnia muse of sacred song • Terpsichore muse of dance • Thalia muse of comedy and bucolic poetry • Urania muse of astronomy Euterpe Music Company is the name of our music recording and publication company. The SpaceAn ideal artist or family retreat, far from the maddening crowds, perfect for the nature, food, sleep, and inspiration lover... Guest AccessOjai: fine food, arts & crafts, hiking trails, horse ranches, music & film festivals... Interaction with GuestsNot at all, unless needed. The NeighborhoodOjai's charms are many. The community has long been known as a haven for artists, musicians and health enthusiasts. A village ”as we locals call it” of about 8,000, Ojai is a vibrant place with so much natural beauty that it gained fame decades ago when the area was photographed to represent Shangri-La in the 1939 movie, The Lost Horizon. Ojai TraditionsTraditions are important to the life and lifestyle of Ojai residents. When the Thomas Aquinas Church outgrew their quaint chapel on Ojai Avenue, it was purchased, repaired and now houses the Ojai Valley Museum. The Ojai Library is a small building with a lovely atmosphere also on Ojai's main drag. With so much scenic beauty and a sense of place, it is little wonder that locals and visitors relish the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors of the Ojai Valley. The Ojai Valley Trail runs for more than nine miles with a parallel path for horses. If you want to meet half the town, that is a good place to start. Bicyclists, walkers, joggers and those exercising pets from dogs to pigs can be seen on the trail. Among the outdoor treasures are the many parks that dot the city. In the middle of town is the pride of Ojai: Libbey Park. There mighty oaks give shade to a playground for children, and there are plenty of paths and picnic areas. Libbey Park is the site of many events, none more popular than the Ojai Music Festival. Held in early June at the Libbey Bowl amphitheater, its concerts fill the air with vibrant music drawing large crowds who fill the seats and lawns around Libbey Bowl. Libbey Park also contains a bandstand where local musicians often perform free concerts. Close to the house in Meiners Oak is the Ojai conservancy area. Just walk down Lomita, a couple of blocks past El Roblar and you will see it on the left. It is a wonderful place to walk about while learning about the local fawn and fauna. The area of town known as Meiners Oak where this gem of a house (1927 Crafstman house to be exact) is located, offers many opportunities for art, dining, and hiking within walking distance. Two blocks down we have the well-known The Farmer and The Cook, on El Roblar. The restaurant offers breakfast lunch and dinner with their own organic products grown on the farm behind the restaurant. Their chai tea and their gluten free bread are delicious. Their huevos rancheros are pretty awesome as well. One more block down the street and you are at Papa Lennon’s. Their pasta and pizzas are delicious and all available gluten free. They have wonderful live music on Saturdays on the back patio and offer family style sitting. Next door is the gallery at 525 El Roblar which often combines art and musical events. One block North of the house on Maricopa is the Deer Lodge with great food and great atmosphere. Many talented musicians and singers try their new material during the evening. Getting AroundYes, there is local bus service on El Roblar, only two blocks away. Other Things to NoteThe neighbors are always friendly and helpful. This is a quiet residential neighborhood so please be mindful of everyone's privacy...
