The SpaceIn the Heart of Costa Ballena, above Playa Ballena and overlooking the rock formations of Parque Nacional Marino Ballena (Ballena National Marine Park) is the Eco-Residencial Community of Perla Ballena, where this home is located. The design is Two Master Suites, which open to terraces above the pool. The Main Living Level with kitchen & dining, outside salon and a third bath adjacent to an area with a futon which converts to the third bedroom with bath for sleeping accommodations. Wake up for coffee or tea on the outside salon area to see Toucans cruising past or maybe a Pizote (raccon type animal) stealing papaya from the trees below the pool, as you look out over the Pacific to the Osa Peninsula and Isla del Cano in the distance. January to April and July to October you may see Humback Whales breaching in the waters off Playa Ballena (Whale Beach) You are surrounded by primary rainforest where Howler Monkeys or White Face Monkeys may be encountered at any time. A private and gated road keeps the Perla Ballena Community secure and peaceful. The Private Road is a good road, but please be aware it is a road through a Rain Forest mountain, we require that you have a 4WD vehicle, it is not critical for access but is more secure and comfortable for you and causes much less wear on our gravel surface. Trails in the Private Preserve areas lead you to a waterfall and cascades, or just to enjoy the tranquility and sounds of the forest. Included with your vacation rental is the use of our BALLENA BEACH CLUB facility, two pools, showers, parking for visiting Playa Ballena with full Restaurant and Bar service at Restaurante Villa Leonor. Getting AroundA rental car is needed to enjoy the different attractions and amenities of Costa Ballena. The house is up on the mountain, too far to walk down to the highway and public transport. It is also a private road through a rain forest mountain, so 4WD is required, not critical to traverse the road but more secure and comfortable for you and less wear for our gravel surface we maintain.

Casa Rowe is a relatively new (2007) 2 Bedroom, 2.5 Bath Townhome located in the Gardens of the Pacific, a small community in the rural beach hamlet of Playa Bejuco on Costa Rica's central Pacific coast. The Gardens is a quiet and safe residential community of a few dozen homes designed to blend in with the natural environment. Playa Bejuco is a 2 hour drive from the San Jose airport and 25 minutes south of the tourist mecca of Jaco, through bucolic countryside with cattle grazing in lush green pastures framed by mountains and ocean. The scenic drive south on the Costanera (coast highway) leading to our townhome is enchanting, and the idyllic beauty of the region quite breathtaking. Playa Bejuco is centrally located on the Pacific coast, an ideal home base for those wishing to explore the ecodiversity of Costa Rica, including beaches, rainforests, mountains, volcanoes, waterfalls, rivers and coastal estuaries. PLAYA BEJUCO/ GARDENS OF THE PACIFIC: Casa Rowe is a short 5-8 minute walk to quiet and secluded Playa Bejuco, a Blue Flag beach (highest ecological rating) known for its clean water and quality surfing waves. The ocean water is warm - around 80 degrees - year round. The lengthy and wide (especially at low tide) dark sand, palm tree-lined beach stretches for miles and is usually empty, perfect for extended beach walks, bicycle rides and/or collecting shells and driftwood, especially at sunrise or sunset. The outside of our Gardens of the Pacific townhome is nicely landscaped and kept beautiful by the friendly community gardeners. Yard foliage includes a large and shady jacaranda tree, palms, crotons, allamandas, heliconias, hibiscus and other flowering plants. The yard and adjacent green space attract a variety of birds (including hummingbirds) and butterflies, and you awaken each morning to the sounds of exotic birdsong. The trees in the community are frequented regularly by large multicolored parrots (scarlet macaws) and, occasionally, troupes of monkeys. Gardens of the Pacific has a large tropically landscaped green space/ BBQ/ pool area in the quiet rear portion of the community. The space includes a covered entertainment area, BBQ grill, community pool (w/ child pool), bathroom and outdoor shower. It is an ideal setting for family/group gatherings. Playa Bejuco is a tiny rural coastal village. There is a bodega (mini-mart) located steps from our townhome, and two beach hotel/restaurants a short walking distance down a road leading to the ocean. The restaurants offer excellent food at reasonable prices and are nice places to enjoy drinks at sunset. Playa Bejuco offers vacationers to Costa Rica the best of both worlds, a beautiful rural setting located slightly off the conventional tourist track, yet with easy access to a variety of attractions and activities. ACTIVITIES: Costa Rica offers much in the way of adventure and ecotourism, with opportunities for surfing, fishing, rainforest canopy tours, zip lining, ATV rentals, horseback riding, golfing, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, scuba diving, birdwatching, hiking, waterfall trips, and wildlife viewing. Wellcome to Casa Tordesillas, Marga and Chema offers you the possibility of sharing their way of life. It is relaxing and full of inspiration, since the area is so peaceful and complete with natural beauty. The coolness of the high mountains and being close to tropical beaches, makes it a unique place. Nearby cascading rivers and jungle trails for the more adventurous that can be covered hiking or on horses of our own breeding, spanish andalusian crossed with costarican paso fino. If you do not know how to ride, we will give you ridding lessons. You can also participate in sustainable and regenerative activities such as reforestation with native species, organic and biological gardening, Do-In exercises (japonesse yoga) and join Marga and Chema for evening meditations. We are located up on top of the Coastal Range, above the National Park of Marino Ballena and Uvita beach, on the Pacific south west and 4 hrs drive from the capital San Jose. The road is rural and requires a 4X4 vehicle. The main access road is from the valley side of the ridge, it is paved up to 5 km and the rest is well gravelled. What is a sustainable way of life? Marga and Chema have been living a sustainable way of life for over 20 years and they would like to share it with you, even if it is just for a few days. This way of life is much more economical and nature friendly, where arts and crafts predominate over mass consummerism; where walking, bicycling, horses and public transport is the form of transport, instead of the private car; where the use of energy is minimized and sustainably produced. But perhaps the most important is to grow as much of ones own food, since food is health and health is food. To summarize, it is about quality of life instead of standard of living; it is about enhancing, empowering and a conscientious way of life. It is about sharing with family, friends and neigbours; to barter, to trade to be frugal and not to waste; which is true economy. Marga and Chema have built their own house and furniture (Chema has been a cabinet maker and a carpenter). Marga is a seamstres and makes most of their clothes. Energy is sustainably produced and waste is minimized. They breed, raise and traine (the natural way) their own horses, a cross between andalusian and costarican paso fino; they also do all the animal husbandry, to include the maintenance of the fields and do their own farrier work. The home is a large, two storied, round building. 5 bedrooms with their own bathrooms, a large living room with a fireplace, dinning room overlooking the tropical forest and the Pacific ocean, with a geodesic dome at the second floor for holistic exercises. Solar panels and candles for light. The farm is located on top of the Coastal Range, on the south west of Costa Rica, sorrounded by tropical forests and the Biological Corredor "El Paso de la Danta" (The Path of the Tapir). It has its own water springs which feed the house. Mountain trails arround the forest to the many waterfalls and down to the beach at Bahia Ballena National Park (a migrating destination twice a year for the humpback whales). A 12 km rural road conects us to the beach and national park (4 wheel drive, walking or horses) taxi services available. We offer sustainable practice and holistic health semminars throughout the year, you may inquire about them. Also, our ecuestrian tours give you an insight to the regions way of life, which still uses the horse as a form of transport and if your visit coincides with the local villages festivities, one can join in the cabalcades, which are one of the main events. Also the phylosofical conversations and story telling with Chema arround the fire place. But perhaps the most distinguishing factor about our place, is Margas Kitchen; with its many different dishes, all naturally made. Some of the most popular dishers are the lasagna, the paella, spanish omelett, stuffed fowl, sushi, and many baked pasteries. Our place is a mountain retreat for the artist, the mistic and the naturalis; it provides a haven to inspire, to reveal and to view nature with all its grandeur and splendor. Rates per room, doble occupancy $60 per day $350 per week $1200 per month Our farm and home is up on top of the ridge of the Coastal Range, on the south west coast of the Pacific in Costa Rica. It is sorrounded by tropical forests and cascading rivers, the nearest village is 3 km away and the beach (National Marine Park of Marino Ballena) is 12 km by rural road (4X4 required). We have several water springs, one of which feed the house. It overlooks the ocean, to the west and the tall Tallamanca range, with the highest mountain in Costa Rica the Chirripo, to the east. A good place to observe nature, wild life and very good birding, since the farm is set at a mountain pass comming from the ocean low lands to the fertil valleys on the other side of the ridge. On the western border, an impresive scarpment of a 1000 mts, overlooks the tree tops of the tropical forest, offering some fascinating views of the coast line. The many trails in the area, gives the visitors a great opportunity for extended hikes to the many waterfalls with their natural swimming holes, makes the area a unique place. Also, for the experienced ecuestrian, these trails offers excellent riding opportunities. There is public bus service up to the nearby town, 3 kms away and from there a local taxi can bring you up to our place. Also, if you so desire for a fee, we can offer airport pickup. For more detail information, once you have booked the reservation, please contact us and we will provide all the needed information. If you rent a 4X4 vehicle, please call us, so as to advise on the best route in order to avoid heavy trafic hours. If you come by bus, once you have your ticket, please call so as to have our regular taxi wating for you Avoid coming at night, since we are in a wilderness area and the place may be difficult to find

You can lock the metal gates, close the screens and leave the glass doors open at night to take advantage of the wonderful breezes. Enjoy our infinity pool night or day. Not only does it have lights, the luminesent tiles bring the stars into the pool. Pool maintenance, gardening and weekly cleaning services are provided during your stay and are included in the fee. The local fresh seafood, fruits and vegetables burst with flavour. If you decide to eat out, world-class restaurants with international choices are located just 15 minutes away in nearby Ojochal. During low tide, you can walk through sea caves at Ventenas Beach also 15 minutes away. Each of the many other beaches in this region offer their own particular versions of pura vida. Snorkeling, boogie boarding, deep-sea diving, and surfing are available, as are seasonal whale-watching, golfing, jungle horse-back tours and zip-lining. Sorry, our villa is non-smoking and we do not allow pets. Beds: 1 King Bed, 2 Queen Beds

The SpaceWe've thought a lot about comfort and security. The property is gated and fenced. Each window and opening has stunning metal work, screens and glass. This allows you to lock the metal doors and close the screens but leave the glass doors open at night so you can continue to enjoy the breezes. We believe in privacy so the Master Suite has its own door separating it from the Great Room. It also opens onto the deck. You'll love the 5-piece bathroom. You can chose to hang your clothing in the closet or the huge wardrobe. And, if you want to be alone, there are two extremely comfortable recliners. The Guest Rooms are on the far side of the Great Room. Each has a private entrance to the pool deck, a queen size bed, wardrobe(s) and a 3-piece bathroom. Guest AccessIt's all yours! Interaction with GuestsOur managers, Diana and Dave, live just 4 minutes away. They are a great source of information. As well, we've set up a villa binder that you will find on your arrival. The NeighborhoodThe Costa Ballena is in the lush southern region. Our villa, Quiet Sunset, is in the rain forrest, with chattering monkeys, vivid flowers and colourful birds. Nearby Ojochal boasts several world-class restaurants. Local beaches each have their own special beauty. At low tide you can wonder into sea caves at the closest, Playa Ventanas. There are many activities to chose from including zip-lining, horse-back riding, golfing, in-season whale watching. Waterfalls, small and large, abound. There are all sorts of flora and fauna in Costa Rica. Some, like snakes, can be dangerous. Others are simply lovely to observe. There are 14 species of scorpions, but none are dangerous although their sting will hurt. If you are concerned about possible reactions to stings/bites of any kind, we suggest that you bring your own medication. There is a pharmacy in Uvita at the Dome. And, there is the hospital a little further south at Cotes, just off the highway. Getting AroundWe are 800 feet above sea level, which means great breezes. We recommend that you rent a mid to full-size 4x4. If you fly into San Jose, the most direct route is toll highway #27 to the Pacific Ocean, then exit onto highway #34 towards Jaco, Quepos, Dominical and Uvita then Ojochal. The total trip is about 3.5 to 4 hours. You could also fly to Palmar Sur, which is about 35 km away. Note: There is covered parking for two small to mid-size vehicles. Other Things to NoteThe pool is cleaned weekly as is the villa. We will try to limit the gardener attendance, however, they do need to come by at least once every 3 weeks. If you are driving from San Jose, we suggest that you make sure you have a small amount of colones. Although most places accept US dollars, you'll need the colones to pay for tolls on some of the highways.

Pura Vida! This is the Costa Rican expression for everything that is good. It translates as pure life and is used as a greeting and a salutation. It is always spoken with a smile. Costa Rica is rated as one of the happiest places on earth. You can discover why. Does secluded beaches where the jungle meets the sand, monkeys and toucans greet you each morning, and swimming under warm waterfalls strike your fancy? Our rental home is situated in an old growth jungle minutes from the beach on the Pacific coast at Marino Bellena National Park, the only national marine park in Costa Rica. Bellena translates to whale. Humpbacks from the southern and northern hemisphere travel thousands of miles to have their babies in the park. Excellent whale watching, snorkeling and diving! We are halfway between Manual Antonio, the most popular park in Costa Rica, and the famous Osa Penninsula. National Geographic named our area one of the most bio-diverse areas on the planet. From the house and pool you can see the ever changing pacific ocean, local islands, incredible wildlife, rainforest, and beautiful sunsets. The food in the area is the best in Costa Rica and maybe some of the best we have ever had - think Napa in the South Pacific. Expats from around the world have created amazing culinary delights. We can recommend at least 10 restaurants in the area. You can drink the water and eat the food and not worry. The home has three bedrooms and two bathrooms, a full gourmet kitchen, laundry room, two outside patio areas, infinity pool, and a stone BBQ (boogie boards and monkey-finding rubber boots are in the garage:-). The house is an extremely easy drive to the highway with a wide short road leading to the house. This should not be underestimated. Most homes in the area take a long time to drive up steep, single lane windy roads; Especially difficult at night. This may be the best feature:-) This is not a resort town. The SpaceOcean-front, LA BARCAROLA is a cozy, lovely and charming wooden house that sleeps 4 people, surrounded by huge trees, toucans, blue morphos, howler and cappuchin monkeys. It is located at Finca LA BARCAROLA, a 20,000 square meters property, right on one of the most pristine spots of Costa Rica, Ballena Marine National Park. The Park is known worldwide as one of the best for whale-watching. Check this out: (website hidden) . The wide beach, safe for swimming, is a few steps away, just beyond massive trees that make you feel right in the heart of the tropical jungle. Nature lovers will delight with the constant presence of howler and capuchin monkeys, as well as a huge variety of birds. Early -very early- walks on the beach after a night-time high tide during the months of August and September can be very exciting: this is the time of the year when sea turtles lay their eggs, and it's not uncommon to find their tracks on the sand. Very conscious locals dig the nests up and take the eggs to the Park's office -a short walk away- where they have a hatchery to look after the eggs until they hatch. Then they release the baby turtles at the same spot where the eggs were found. La Barcarola is the perfect place to get away from it all, but if you feel that you need some action, this rapidly developing region offers a wide variety of restaurants and adventure activities a short drive away in the surrounding towns. Guest AccessGuests have unlimited access to the full 20,000 square meters of the beachfront property, including the forest, gardens, creeks, paths and, of course, the whole beach just for you! Interaction with GuestsA caretaker couple lives in their own house in the back area (entrance) of the property, Diógenes and Emérita. They are very obliging and willing to assist in any way they can should you need help or guidance, provided that the language barrier is not a problem. If anything should come up, we are a phone call away. - By the way, should you feel like it, hiring Emerita for a delicious Costa Rican breakfast -she makes a mean gallo pinto with eggs and delicious homemade tortillas- is an option. The NeighborhoodAs little as ten minutes driving either north or south of Parque Marino Ballena -if you really feel the need to go somewhere else- you will find exotic restaurants, bars and trendy places. The South Pacific coast of Costa Rica has become a destination all of its own, so people from many nationalities who've decided to make this beautiful area their home have set up shop to offer a wide variety of services, from Thai massages to Indonisian food. Some examples below: -Uvita, (12 minutes driving) is a small but very vibrant community with banks, restaurants, supermarkets, doctors' and vet offices, which can provide you any necessity. You may also find a wide variety of local activities, from yoga classes to snorkeling, kayaking, whale-watching tours and horse-back riding. If you are feeling adventurous, you can take a boat tour to Isla del Caño -45-minutes- where you can scuba dive, snorkel or hike to your heart's content. -Dominical Beach, one of the hottest surf spots in Central America, is a 20-minute drive north of La Barcarola. The town is full of places to eat and drink, as well as quaint souvenir shops. -Nauyaca Waterfalls is also a great option: hike or horse-back ride for a while to reach breathtaking waterfalls in the heart of a mountain. This is an almost full-day trip, so plan ahead. -Boruca: Most people don't know about this, but if you drive south to Palmar Norte (40 minutes) and then east for 25 km along the spectacular Terraba River, you will find a sign on your left showing the way up (8 Km) to the town of Boruca, inhabited exclusively by the Boruca indigenous people. They are known for their carved wood masks and textiles, and you can experience food like you've never had before. If anything, the views uphill wil make the trip completely worthwhile. Getting AroundPublic buses, shuttles and taxis ar available to travel from the capital city, San José. to Uvita, Playa Ballena and surrouding towns. There is also a shuttle service directly from Aeropuerto Juan Santa María. Nevertheless, we recommend you rent your own car, hopefully a four-wheel-drive, That way you will have the liberty to move around and explore everything that this region of the country has to offer. Other Things to NoteLA BARCAROLA was built just in front of the Pacific Ocean to be wholly integrated with its surroundings, so it is as open as it can be: the windows do not have any screens and ocassional bats could appear during the evening. Don't worry, they are completely harmless. Early in the morning, the garden is visited by wonderful blue morphos (butterflies), hummingbirds and an enthusiastic band of parrots that come to feed in the nearby trees. It's a bit of a Robinson Crusoe feeling... If you choose to drive, it is convenient to rent a 4-wheel-drive, as the entrance to Finca LA BARCAROLA is a steep hill that sometimes can be tricky to negotiate. A flashlight is useful in case you want to go to the beach or leave the house after dark. There is no hot water at the house, but because the climate is completely tropical, you will find it unnecessary. Actually, most of the time people use the outside shower, mornings or evenings, and not the indoor bathroom!

Costa Rica is a wonderful place to visit and explore. We hope you choose our comfortable and affordably priced family vacation townhome as a home base to experience some of the wonders this unique country has to offer. It is an agrarian area with beautiful farms and unspoiled beaches and jungle. It is a place to explore and discover. It will excite your inner adventurer. see w...h omeaway.c../vacation-rental/p4044630 for reviews 14 for 14 5 star reviews! Beds: 1 King Bed, 1 Queen Bed, 2 Twin Beds

The SpaceA charming wooden house built just right on the Ballena National Marine Park, LA MANINA (which is located at Finca LA BARCAROLA) is the ideal place to have fun and relax with friends and family. The downstairs social area opens on one side towards the beach and towards the jungle in the back, so there is a feeling of total integration with the scenery as guests have their meals or play table games. The upstairs balcony is a cozy spot that looks out onto the beach and beyond, great for nightime gatherings. Nature lovers are smitten by the surroundings: huge trees dripping with wildlife, from toucans and blue morpho butterflies to the many families of monkeys that are frequent visitors. The wide beach is a few steps away, just beyond massive trees that make you feel right in the heart of the tropical jungle. The Park is well-known for whale-watching as it is on the migration path of humpback whales, and they can be spotted right from the beach as they swim and play around Las Tres Hermanas (Three Sisters), a cluster of tiny islands that seem to be a stone's throw away. LA MANINA is the perfect place to get away from it all, but if you feel that you need some action, this rapidly developing region offers a wide variety of restaurants and adventure activities a short drive away in the surrounding towns. Guest AccessGuests have unlimited access to the full 20,000 square meters of the beachfront property "Finca LA BARCAROLA", including the forest, gardens, creeks, paths and, of course, the whole beach just for you! The NeighborhoodAs little as ten minutes driving either north or south of Finca LA BARCAROLA -if you really feel the need to go somewhere else- you will find exotic restaurants, bars and trendy places. Getting AroundPublic buses (from San Jose to Uvita, Ballena and neighboring areas) and cabs are available from San José, as well as shuttles straight from Juan Santa María Airport. However, renting your own car (we recommend a 4-wheel-drive) is a good idea. You can rent in Uvita after arriving there by bus/shuttle- to have freedom to move around and visit all the wonderful places of the region. Other Things to NoteTo get to La Manina you have to go down a steep hill that can get tricky, so if have a car, we recommend a 4x4. That way you can go in and out the property without any problem. Since La Manina is quite open, you could be visited by the occassional bat, which is nothing to worry about; they are completely harmless. It is also a good idea to keep a flashlight handy so you can move around at night if you want to go out. Hot water is not available, but you will find that the year-round tropical climate makes it unnecessary.
