The SpaceHeaphy Haven is a magical place to stay. With a queen size bed & 2 retro couches that fold out into beds there is room for all. The kitchen area has a microwave, electric kettle and toaster. We want you to enjoy your stay & will provide a breakfast of homemade bread with local honey & jam, or muesli. We have a large bookshelf full of good books to read, as well a vast music collection to set the ambience just right for yourself. Guest AccessThe access is through a farm gate and along a grass driveway. You will then park directly next to Heaphy Haven which is on the edge of our miniature forest. The bathroom is in a separate building to the Guesthouse. With a simple and clean shower, basin and toilet. It is definitely easier to find us in the daylight. So come early! Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to be available to help you with any requests or queries, or we can leave you entirely alone to enjoy the peace and quiet. The NeighborhoodThe Aorere Valley is a vast valley reaching from the sea in Collingwood to the mountains of The Kahurangi National Park inland. We are surrounded by dairy farms that work the land in a gentle way with consideration for the growth of natives and our beautiful Aorere River, which is one of the cleanest in the country, with some pretty special swimming holes too. We have more trees and grass and birds than people in this valley. Kahurangi National Park is one of the largest in the country with magnificent native trees, plants and wildlife. You can walk The Heaphy Track from here to Karamea on the West Coast. This walk generally takes 5 days, and needs to be booked through Department of Conservation Here you can also book your vehicle transfers. We at Heaphy Haven always recommend Heaphy Track Help for vehicle relocation. Derry & Helen Kingston are the nicest people you'll meet, who have a vast knowledge of this and many other walking tracks. Derry has walked the Heaphy Track over 400 times! Heaphy Track is also open for mountain bikers from July to end of September. Getting AroundIt is easiest to have your own vehicle whilst adventuring Golden Bay. Although there are a few rentals available in Takaka. We are about 40 minutes from Takaka, our largest town in Golden Bay, and only 15 mintues drive to Collingwood, our nearest town. It is about a 3 hour drive from Nelson, although you'll want to take longer for all the magical spots to see along the way. We are lucky to have Golden Bay Coachlines available also. They travel from Nelson to The Heaphy Track most days during the summer months and by appointment during the rest of the year. You can get a lift from them right to our Langford Store doorstep in Bainham, where we can meet you and get you up the road to Heaphy Haven.

Elegant and stylish, compact yet uncluttered, it is furnished to high standards of quality and comfort. It is an ideal situation from which to explore the many attractions Golden Bay has to offer: from Farewell Spit and Wharariki Beach to Pupu Springs and Wainui Falls. Or to rest up after one of the many tramps the area offers including, of course, the Heaphy Track. It boasts a number of artists? and potters? studios in the near vicinity including Tim Jessup, Anatoth, Rinopai, Estuary Arts, Margaret Maloney and Paul Winspear, among others. Windsurfing and kayaking is popular on the estuary and boards and boats can be hired from a neighbouring local boating trust. Golden Bay is celebrated for its beaches ? Parapara beach is a mere 200-metre stroll ? for its isolation and wild beauty, its wildlife and birds, its original and vibrant arts scene, its off-beat but compelling eateries, and the friendliness of its people.
