The SpaceThe coastal village of Onrus, about 120km outside of Cape Town, lies on a narrow coastal strip, sandwiched between majestic mountains and the sea, surrounded by fynbos. The area around Onrus is legendary for its "champagne" air and Southern Right whales can be spotted near the Onrus beach in season.Onrus is great for crayfish diving. The beach is well-known to surfers. Onrus Attractions : Fernkloof Nature Reserve: 6 km Hermanus Golf Club: 9 km Bot River lagoon: 13 km Arabella Golf Club: 22 km Kleinmond Golf Club: 22 km Kleinmond Nature Reserve: 23 km Walker Bay Nature Reserve: 23 km The Cape Overberg region in the province of the Western Cape comprises some of the most scenic and popular parts of South Africa. These include the shark cage diving Mecca of Gansbaai as well as the whale watching hub of Hermanus. Onrus is part of Hermanus and showcases the peaceful ambience and holiday vibe of the little town. The NeighborhoodThe town comes alive every year between about October and January, thanks to the whales that frequently visits the coastline at this time. These include Southern Right, Humpback and killer whales, which stage wonderfully dramatic performances for those on the shore and on whale watching tours to enjoy. Every year, between 60 and 100 of these marine giants make their way past the coast; spyhopping, breaching and lobtailing playfully, which gives the impression that they are as interested in their audience as we are of them. The entire area is surrounded by the impressive mountains of the Cape Overberg, as well as hundreds of species of the spectacular fynbos that is endemic to this country. This means that, no matter where in Onrus or the greater Overberg region one stays, the views are almost always breath-taking, and access to the wonders of the South African landscape are only a short drive or walk away.

The SpaceThe house is an open space with two bedrooms downstairs and an open deck with atrium upstairs. It's spacious enough for close friends and family to relax in and has beach cottage finishes i.e. it's a place where people walk around with sandy feet without worrying about the floors too much. Linen excluded, but can be arranged at extra fee. The house is ideal for family/friends who are intimately acquainted. It has creaky wooden floors upstairs (you WILL hear other guests when they walk around at night). Please note there is an atrium which may mean the place is not suitable for toddlers or young children (although the stairs can be blocked off). The yard is enclosed and small pets are welcome (at an additional fee) as long as they are house-trained and don't dig up the garden or soil the furniture/carpets. The entrance to the property is in a quiet cul-de-sac, however, the backyard borders a primary road feeding the area. Guest AccessThe whole house, outside yard and entertainment area will be accessible to guests, all except the locked shed. Interaction with GuestsAs it is a holiday home, we will not be present at the property and arrangements for key collections will have to be made with a trusted neighbour. The NeighborhoodThe Overberg is home to many quaint country towns, wine farms and natural fynbos scenery PLUS Hermanus offers the best land-based whale watching in the world. Getting AroundAlthough Onrus is small enough to discover on foot (from the beach to the bar to the restaurants or even the many galleries), we recommend that guests rent a car to explore the beautiful Overberg district. Other Things to NoteCape Town inhabitants are easy going, colourful, friendly, complex, kind, cunning, developing, unsophisticated, but filled with smiles, curiosity and opportunists. However, TIA or "This is Africa". We are surrounded by with beauty and dust. Sometimes there are inconveniences like power cuts. And we grew up seeing the effects of privilege vs poverty. We tolerate bugs in our living space and we accept that time is measured differently here (i.e. sometimes service can be slow or even non-existent). Life here may be different to what first-world travelers are used to, but we have a good time here and we'd love visitors to get a glimpse of it as we're sure you'll find is as exotically fascinating and intoxicating as we do. In fact, we KNOW you'll fall in love with the place and its people.
