The SpacePeople love our yurt and the surrounding countryside. They call it "magical" , "amazing", "quiet", "a unique experience we always wanted to try". Guest AccessFull access to the yurt. The space is all yours. Interaction with GuestsWe are available to help throughout your stay. Depending on your interests we can help you explore the state forest, find local sites such as Hilltown farms, craft breweries and live music. The NeighborhoodWendell is a unique community with many owner built, off-grid homes, small farms and self sufficient homesteads. It may be possible to introduce you to our friends. Getting AroundWe are not near public transportation but the Amtrak train goes from New York City to Greenfield MA (via New Haven CT) and we can pick you up. Other Things to NoteWhy the hot tub isn't available in winter. We are committed to off-grid living which means we are dependent on the sun for our power. This effects the hot tub because we use an electric pump to fill it. November thru February the amount of sunlight we receive in western MASS is diminished. The sun is low in the sky and the weather can be more cloudy. The outdoor shower is weather dependent because it can freeze. The yurt is a very special place, especially in the winter, and we work hard within our given systems to be kind to nature and to accommodate our guests. If you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us.

The living room, kitchen and dining area are on the first floor and the bedrooms and bathroom are upstairs. The queen bedroom is accessible through the bathroom. There is a deck overlooking the lake as well as a private dock directly across the street with a canoe and kayak that you are welcome to use. The lake is well stocked and is a popular spot for local fishermen all year round. There is a 10HP limit as well, so noisy motorboats are not a problem here. Guest AccessYou'll have access to the whole house, the dock, the canoe, the kayak and as much of Lake Mattawa as you'd like! Interaction with GuestsOur goal is to allow you to have a relaxing lake vacation without interference, but we're always just a phone call away if you need anything. Orange Center is less than 10 minutes from the house, and there are restaurants, gas stations, pharmacies and grocery stores all within 15 minutes. Getting AroundAmtrak's Vermonter has a stop in Greenfield, which is a 30 minute drive away. Taxis, Uber and Lyft are available to get you from Greenfield to the house. FRTA also offers weekday intercity bus service, including stops in Orange. Other Things to NoteThe driveway is level with the basement, so the first floor is actually up a flight of stairs. The only bathroom is on the second floor, so if climbing stairs is a problem for any member of your group, unfortunately our house may not be a good choice for you.
